Big Blooper
I have made many bloopers in my transcription history, as I am sure many have. However, I think this one tops the cake. I am a psych transcriptionist, and I transcribe forensic and legal psych reports. I had a client who was an exhibitionist to say the least. In the dictation, the therapist stated that the client was "sitting along the highway with his bare penis exposed, masturbating". I transcribed "bear penis" instead of "bare penis"! Oh my goodness did I get teased about that. When the report came back for correction, the therapist wrote in the margin, "Hey, how big is a bear penis anyway". I still work for the same therapist, and I do not think he will ever let me live it down.

When I'm 83, I hope that I can just step outside and pick up a guy!
Humorous MD blooper
I have had awful dictation this afternoon - sheer torture, as most of us are familiar with.
Thought I would share this to lighten things up: "Discharge instructions were given in both verbal and oral format." He whipped through this report in about 45 seconds - they don't even listen to themselves.
My blooper typo-of-the-day! sm
Doctor dictates: "Extremities are warm and well perfused."
What I almost typed: "Extremities are warm and well PERFUMED."

I think everyone really could use a good laugh these days and now with ASR, MTs can contribute as well as QA. I get some really funny ones but forget to write them down so was thinking it would be neat to have an ongoing blooper board on this site. The comedy board is great; and being an MT site, I think a blooper board would be very appropriate and appreciated. Thanks for your consideration!

I don't know if you'd make the trip in time. When my
mother was dying she died within 24 hours of her kidneys shutting down - by this I mean she quit producing urine. She had cancer that has spready rapidly throughout her body so there may have been contributing factors involved.
So how much do you make for the time you spend

I have one of my own accounts and sub for a local contractor at a high rate. I also work for one online company that is flexible but the work is low. I'd feel better not giving the name because I feel that is personal.
to OP: you might want to try asking about specific companies or asking about companies that offer what you are looking for.
You may be getting flack because salary is a personal thing with tons of variables. Even though the posters seem like they are coming off hard the truth of the matter is that everyone is different and everyone has a different work situation.
Sure, I have bills to pay and I am expected to bring in an income, but my husband is the breadwinner and he also has the health insurance. I still feel pressure to do as much as possible but my main goal is to make sure the kids are taken care of and their appointments, etc. If I was at home all day with no worries regarding two school-aged kids, I'm sure I'd easily make 60 K or more and need subs if I were to market myself as an MTSO. But I prefer to stay an IC and not use subs.
I don't know if this helps at all, but it is my answer.

I make lunch ahead of time and
my child has never complained about the bread being hard. Maybe because we use 100% whole wheat and it is already kind of dry? I have just never heard that complaint from anyone
I make lunch right after clearing up dinner and that way if we all oversleep by accident, at least its one less thing to have to worry about. We have enough stress in the morning.

I just received my first subscription via E-mail to Advance Health Magazine.
CAN YOU BELIEVE THEY ACTUALLY HAD TWO ADVERTISEMENTS IN IT FOR HIRING INDIA MTs?
These are about 1/4 of a page size. One is from CBAY, which is Spheris, which is their 100% India company. Bragging a 30% decrease in costs to hospitals.
This not only threatens American MTs with losing jobs outright, but it also UNDERCUTS us. This is why we are making less money, less benefits, and needing to work harder.
I sent an E and cancelled immediately. Actually, I had been considering it for a while because of a bit percentage of their Medical Transcription articles are pro- undercutting American MTs, anyway, just like AAMT.
In my opinion, WE ARE BEING SOLD-OUT, AND BEING SOLD-OUT BY AAMT as they push harder and harder to make money any way they can, even by supporting Indian MTs, who are probably being told they "have" to join their organization...
They have been trying to force American MTs to become certified to fill their pockets and position themselves for the future as a monopoly. However, it seems American MTs are not as easily led as in India, so they flip-flopped. If you can't beat them, join them, right?
I am so disgusted. Last month they had an article from someone encouraging companies to hire American MTs and I was so hopeful, but this made me sick, to get it in my E-mail.
Time for me to make a stand. My job is worth fighting for and I need it...

at least $40,000 per year at my job. I only work part because just tired of working all the hours I have in the past. The majority of my work is VR (about 95%) and straight but am fast. I don't have a lot put in Expanders but do well over 3000 lines per day total.

$250 a week. Just having become a grandma would influence my decision! I can't keep my hands off the little one! 1K a week would suite me just fine! To bad I don't play the lottery.

Take the time to make a list for a day of all the common editing tasks you do.
That should give you a good start for productive macros, then start making macros for those odd circumstances. BTW, Instant Text is great for handling these types of tasks. You can run your macros with a short form that makes sense to you or you can create "command" entries that make corrections--meaning that you can lump a whole bunch of keyboard shortcut commands into one entry. This is a great feature if you're queasy about creating macros.

Marla in So. California pays 11 cpl for a 55 ccl, Oracle pays 9-1/2 cpl, MDI-MD 11 cpl, JLG 10 cpl for gross line, etc.
Of course, these are rates negotiated and paid to qualified MTs.
When I see mistakes I repeatedly make, I make a quickcorrect for it (sm)
for example if I type we plant o instead of "plan to" I have a quick corrct so that if I type plant o, it replaces it with plan to, etc. It is hard - I was with the same company for 8 years. I do not work for anyone with an accuracy requirement though.
When you make the copay, make them give you a sm
receipt for the amount you pay them. I know they don't like to do this because it takes time, but if you are really stern and insist on a receipt they have to give you one. Then, the next time you get billed for something you already paid, tell them to look for their copy of the receipt and let THEM do the work.
Yes, unfortunately you do have to make a pest of yourself to make it work, but.....
as the years went by that is why I stayed away from those type of companies. BTW, Noni is a fabulous product, I absolutely do not care for the "marketing techniques" they use. One of the facts of this type of industry is you cannot just recruit to make it, you have to retail. Working full time at home with small children is hard but part time works great
is almost impossible. You will either have to work when your spouse is home or for only a few hours during the day and then more when they are asleep. I work part time at home and my kids (2&5 now) have done very, very well. They are great kids, very well behaved, don't get into much. I stop working to check on them/give them some attention every hour or so while I work (5 hours each afternoon or so) and they get all my attention in the morning and at night. It has worked out beautifully for us.
Yeah, our choc. lab does that from time to time - makes it interesting!- nm

full-time in office/ part-time at home
I currently work full-time in a physician's office and have started part-time online. My hope is to eventually go full-time online; however that will be done the road for a single mom with a son in college. My suggestion would be try to type part-time for a MTSO and see how that goes i.e work and money with a decision down the road for ultimately being home all the time. A guaranteed paycheck is always a necessity for me. Hope this helps.

I work a full time and a part time, but not sure about 2 full-time...
My hubbie is disabled and I am the only one in my family working also, so I fully understand. You will not have a day off at all working 2 full-time as that is going to be the only way you will get in all your hours. I work one job in the mornings from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. and the other from 5 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. and do have off one day a week, but if I had to get in the extra 15 hours to make the other job full-time I am not sure how I would do that other than lose my only day off. Also, make sure you have your account specifics in front of you at all times because you will get yourself confused as to who is what and having notes will help in that area. Good luck to you, as it is possible, but forget about your house being clean, having any social life, etc. Feel free to email me personally if you just need someone to talk to, as I have been where you are and still am.

Does anyone know this one. I will see the patient back in 4 week's time, 4 weeks' time or 4 weeks time. Can't seem to find this in any of my reference books. Thanks in advance.
