company soon to initiate docking for errors. Whether these errors exist or not.  These may be style guide errors.  It seems the latest version of said style guide contains a lot more pages than the original version which was, perhaps 80 pages long.

Yes, I'm quite sure these companies are only concerned about quality transcription and not the bottom line.

No need to feel badly for me - feel badly for an adult who has no control of his/her own life!
I hope these people didn't produce any daughters! Bad, bad example!
Please don't feel too badly - sm
I have been in this situation too and thankfully, I managed to get out a long time ago. Unfortunately, there are a lot of really mean people out there, who never stop to think about how their words might hurt another person. There is life after a bad and abusive marriage. Just try to ignore these mean comments here. You did what you had to do to help yourself and your children and you were only offering advice. Don't feel badly about that. I'm sure the OP knows whether or not what you did would work for her, and if she thought this would put her in grave danger, she probably wouldn't do it. Big hugs to you and the OP here.
I am so sorry. I feel so badly for you and your son,
and your other child :-( I have been with my husband several decades, and at least all is smooth now - I fought it out! But the first 5 years of our marriage were Hell - he drank - verbally abusive, etc. I actually left him - took the baby, her things, my typewriter, Dictaphone, and the TV. He knew it was over then! We separated about 6 months - I proved to him and myself that I could live happily on my own. He then agreed to counselling, and we have been happy ever since. But it was an enormous battle of wills, so to speak. Hope you are not offended, but I will be praying for all of you - your family. Please keep us posted if you can. Go with your heart - I know you know - your son deserves the BEST! I know when it came to my finally leaving my husband, it wasn't for me - my self-esteem was long gone, but it was for my daughter. She deserved better.  And she got it ultimately - he is a wonderful husband and father now, but it took me leaving him to snap him out of it. Know that you are not alone.
I feel so badly for both you and the OP sm
Just try to realize that the pain management professionals do not care if you get addicted. They don't even really care if you are in pain. Everything to them is the bottom line...$$$. You don't even have a name to them. Do you want them and these pills controlling your life for the rest of your life?? Personally, I want control of my own life. I don't want the poison that these pharmaceutical companies are pumping out daily in my system. The way I look at it is that if God wanted it there, he would have put it there. You CAN live without them....you just have to want to. You CAN.
We all feel very badly about the situation from the hurricaine but it is a big deal with MTs losing
the people and the offices they are used to and the fact that work is very short with some of these regions after you get transferred because many new people are put onto the accounts so why wouldnt it be a big deal when your income and accounts are jeopardized. What else is there for MTs.
How do you folks feel about work going to Canada?
dd
How can you feel loyalty to a company that so clearly has no regard for a large portion of its MTs.
;O
Why do you need to know so badly?
What does it matter where she's from?  Obviously, some people don't like to tell everything about themselves on the Internet because there are other people out there who stalk.  I speak from experience because someone was doing this at another MT website.
feeling badly

I feel kind of sick mentally, someone recently hurt me and in my childhood things happened so i've developed this habit of cutting myself or punching myself.  I just cannot handle my emotions sometimes they get so overwhelming, and truthfully it helps get my mind off of it, but then later I see what i've done to myself and I feel guilt and sick over the whole thing and the cycle starts again.  Just wondering if anyone has ever had the urge to do this?

Just feeling badly today, I would post on the depressed board but no one ever goes there.  I don't feel like I  can talk to anyone in my life about my problems either, so I just needed to vent that out a little bit.

Yeah, but we need it so badly. nm

Never been treated so badly in my life

Just signed on with a company, had 1 week of work, now I am on my second week with no work.  I am a single mother with children to feed...it's just not right. Searching for a new job and have 3 offers on the table already......

Noooooo! Don't!!! It burns so badly you will wish it had been where it was before! SM

I had the same thing happen to me. Called my doctor  and he said  well put it up front, same tissue. YOIKS!! I called him from my seat in a cold-water bath and told him to mark that suggestion out of his book.

doctors who dictate badly
I typed for a doctor who dictated once from the stands at a pro baseball game, once apparently at his kid's Sunday school 'cause they were all singing "Jesus Loves Me," and in the car on the way to Grandma's--both parents were dictating (both were doctors, my clients) with the kids carrying on about "When will we be there?"  and one of the parent yelling at them without, of course, turning off their recorder.  HIPAA would have had a ball with them!
treated badly and pentalized
Has anybody here had a company treat you badly because you want to work?  I was offered a full-time employee position.  I took it and then I was barely getting 200 lines a day.  I was also told I would have a back up account.  When I questioned what was going on, I was given the cold shoulder.  What's the deal? I want to work!  I am use to getting at least 1500 lines a day.
I so badly need a vacation. And one simply isn't in the budget.
But you know, having travelled far and wide with a man who could take me places, I did learn it isn't where you go, it is who you go with....

Yes, would love to meet, date, fall in love with and marry a rich fellow. Having a two income household would be a welcome change if the guy was the Mr. Right.
A lot of women are treated badly in general sm

not just in the Amish community.  How many women are abused daily, behind closed doors and in public.  I remember an incident when I was visiting Atlantic City.  Had just walked into the casino and there was this man, wife, and child in a stroller along with some other friends.  Don't know what their argument was about, but the man hauled off and smacked his wife across her face like it was nothing and the friends seemed so embarrassed.  The poor lady just shielded her face and cried.  The man acted as if he had done nothing wrong.  If this is the treatment he gives her in public, imagine what goes on behind closed doors.  I told my husband if you ever even think about it I will put your poor soul to rest.

We cannot generalize by culture because it is the world we live in.  To the Amish community I am sure they receive "normal treatment."

The gist of it all is no one should have to suffer the pain these children nor their families have endured with these school shootings, molestations, and abuse.  If you are that miserable (they end up killing themselves anyway most of the time), why not just go ahead and take your own life and leave others alone. I pray for them all and hope that they can find peace in the midst of all this tragedy.

depends on how badly you need GOOD work
and whether you are one of those who spends every penny on payday or budgets.

25-40 bucks an hour suits me just fine, cake platform...

you must just like to complain

Re above message - just posted on technical board. Need help badly.
Thanks.
There is an old adage - "He that writes like he speaks writes badly." nm
Doctors need to learn that they are creating a document that is going to be read by others.

I work for a hospital where the gastroenterologists compete to see who can dictate their endo in the fastest time. They deserve the blanks.
I think this happens a lot. Usually, the folks
Some of you people are basketcases.
I wonder why there are so many folks
compose an email that is not riddled with misspelled and misused words? I get emails everyday from a workflow coordinator who leaves the letters 'ed' or 'd' off of almost every word that should have it...Example: "The work has -increse- in the last few days." -incomplete sentences, missisng commas, etc.

It's ridiculous. I have managers who send out poorly composed emails as well. Unbelievable!
You might want to try these folks
I don't know if you've found anything yet, but you might want to try a company called Transcription Matchmaker. They found me a job a year ago when all I had was dial up. They find out what your requirements/specialties are and then match you with a company that best fits you. I've now been with the same company they found for me 10 months ago and I am happy with my job. I hope they can help you.
So now we know, folks, why so many MTs - sm
never get so much as a response when they apply for the literally THOUSANDS of MT jobs we see online every single day.

YouTube is not only a fun and entertaining website, it is also proving to be an amazingly POWERFUL TOOL, and I think that power has only just begun to be tapped.

Now there is one way to get the word out about MT. If you have the capabilities to make YouTube video (or your kids do), the word about fraud, ID theft, & American job loss can be spread.
IC folks

Hey there all you Indepedent contractor folks.  Just want to take a quick poll and see if you are happy being independent.  I am thinking of the making the jump over from employee to IC.  Just want to see and get a quick glance and see if you are happy or not so happy with being IC.

Welcome! I like seeing new folks here
it's great to get some fresh perspectives or see how MTs in the business are doing.
yes! like the large font

Yes, in our bedroom, large though 27 x 12 - sm
We plan to build though in about 3 years (have some property)...getting a home office then....either a separate room or a room off the bedroom, but my own space anyway. Can't wait!
Thanks! The 16" look so small and the 20" so large! nm
x
I have 2 - one large, one small
My first was a very nice rose in the upper-inner quadrant of my left breast. I thought about it for 17 years before I did it. It kind of felt like going to the GYN when I had it do. The guy was very professional and let me catch my breath from time to time. The more fill-in work, the more painful. The more it is just an outline, the less painful.

The other is something private but special to me to honor my kids on my lower back, but above the bikini line. That was much more painful but different guy and it went much faster as I cussed a lot more with fewer breaks.

If I ever get another one it will be a circle on top of the sternum with the leters DNR inside!

Laser - large HP

I have a large HP, three drawer laser printer and I go through 500 sheets of chart note paper, probably another 400 to 600 for consults and letters per month and probably 200  envelopes per week and I seriously use only at the maximum of 3 toners per year and they are $110 per toner recycled.   My printer gets 10,000 to 15,000 copies per toner so about every three to four months I get one.  I spend more on the chart paper than I do the toners.    But that is all figured into my cpl.

You can go to B&N or Borders and they have a large
section of educational workbooks.  You can even find workbooks at Wal-Mart in the toy section.  You can Google and find tons of stuff depending on what subjects you want.
Depends on how large it was - sm
If it was the $1000 for life (which here is only good for 10 years, guess they don't expect you to live long, ha, ha), I would probably take a little time off (say a month or two) so I could get some things done around here. Taxes would cut that down to a little over $2K a month, so that would end up being just a little more than I make now. After my "leave of absence" continue to work but probably at about half schedule so I could have more time for me. IF I ever hit one of millions, I would quit in a heartbeat, but buy the company (small local) I work for and give the office manager (a great lady) one heck of a raise, hire her at least 1 assistant and 2 FT QA, and change a few things about the company in its day to day operations. Then I would just observe the runnings, but not actively participate, couldn't anyway as I'd be living 2+ hours away in my new house/estate on the river.
large company.
My IC pays 4/10 for an eScription account.
Tip of a very large iceberg...
I am in the process of working with an attorney to address some compensation issues at a company I shall kindly remain nameless cuz I'm a nice guy; but the problem is industry-wide so once the issue gets heard and ruled on, we will have the groundwork laid to address it globally and the court to point me there. I'm not sure what that will look like; one step at a time. there are specific laws that address the work we do and they are flat ignored. There are also laws for telecommuters... ditto. I see this offshoring issue same story different channel. Laws and protocols disregarded because it costs money to adhere to them. I think our fragmented work environment, as well as the relatively new concepts of where we work and how we are paid have allowed a lot of our employers to disregard the laws because, frankly have managed to stay off the radar screen. Personally, I do not think these are quick fixes like letters or news releases. They first require fact gathering; I keep thinking about VR and wondering if someone is going to study the success or lack of same, or if it's going to hang over our head and be tossed around subjectively forever. Does anybody anywhere like it? lol... I have thought after getting this discussion heard by the court, that it might prompt the next thing to do. I have piles of reading and delving done about this; I am very interested in exploring it. I won't form an opinon about the outsourcing thing because I just havent looked at it in detail yet. Has anyone else? I'd be curious to know if it is really so much cheaper since, in my observation, much of it requires re-work. So back to before by tangeant...I think these are very complex problems requiring very complex investigations and presenting of hard a fast data. Opiniating just lends itself to more of the same thing.. arguing, where everyone choosed an opinion that fits their personal agenda. But that's just MY opinion. I could be all wet! Aaaamen, sing it over...
Any other MTs for large nationals getting the

Large Macros

Can anyone tell me how to monitor whether making a whole report macro is worthwhile?  I have quite a few, but I cannot decide if it is worth it or not.  I end up having to make changes and delete things.  Often seems like kind of a toss up and wonder if anyone has any guidelines for this or has experiemented with any specific result.

Thanks for any help you can give me!

large macros
Huge macros have never seemed to help me, but on one account, there's a cardiologist who puts two huge jawbreakers into his mouth and then dictates at top speed. I managed to take his long ROS and his short ROS and his short PE and long PE and make four very useful macros, but I put @@ in at the variables. Works great for me. Turns out the guy says the same thing over and over, but it just sounds different if he's speaking Martian that day, or Yugoslavian, or pig latin. Good luck.
I am doing the same thing, large sm
medical centers, working for a national MT service, lots of nurses,NPs, students also. It is straight typing. I have thousands of short cuts in my system. I do not have templates, normals etc. About once a week I MIGHT get a normal ophthalmology report, but I suspect those are all being kept in house. It took me a while to figure out how to make this work but once you make up your mind you can do it.
Having just had a large pay cut, I no longer do
x
You are so right. Our pay goes down from same folks who are charging us more when we

Right now McDonald's in our town starts employees at $8/hour and pays benefits and some school benefits.

I have worked 30 years in transcription and make less now than I did in 1985.  That's 20 years ago.  I know more and earn less.  In fact I am a fraction above poverty level.

If you don't think MQ is getting ready to take us all below poverty level right down there with Mexico City, just hide and watch.  Or rather, sit here and think you are with a "good" company.  I didn't, because they are making millions in profit off your hard work and not sharing a penny of it with you.

In the old days an employer spread the wealth of the company with the employees who made it happen.  This group has never heard of the concept.

Those City folks

I can really relate to your situation and wanted to tell you this story.

I live at the base of a mountain.  There is an RV place out here and every winter the hunters camp and .....leave aggrevation everywhere (garbage).

Yesterday i drove the 15 miles to town to the post office where they know everyone by name.  I was packaging my book to mail and was listening to this conversation:  A gentleman handed a change of address form to the Postmaster. He says," You just moved in that new house on the hill last fall.  Is everything okay"?

Naturally everyone looks that direction.  The gentleman says " We don't like that housing developement on the hill.  There is way too much snow".

Continuing with his story:  My wife had the kids were in the SUV and the road was covered with snow and ice. (duh, it is all winter long).  She had to stop because of the herd of Elk standing on the hill in the middle of the road.  She slid back down the hill and wouldn't drive up again until I came home from work".

So i have asked my husband for a snow maker!!!!!! Maybe they will all move back to the city.  At the base of this hill, a herd of Elk always graze in the field.  There have been many occassions i drive the grandkids that direction to watch.  The 3-year-old asks to me take him to see the funny cows.

So if anyone has a spare Snowmaker please send it to me.....I would love to drive the rest of the city folk out of there!!

The world needs more folks like you 2...
You both just added a big ole jewel to your crowns in Heaven...you're awesome!!! Congratulations...the best of luck and much, much happiness in your marriage...
That's more than my folks did, or my husbands.

I think that you thinking you "put yourself through college" when your parents were paying your tuition and rent kind of says this is the pot calling the kettle black.

Golly, some folks just have to have the last
word, 'eh? I've been following this thread and just waiting for someone to blame the dog owner for the dog nails, or even the dog!! Unreal!
A lot of folks are complaining about MT pay
and not being able to make enough money. I personally don't think the problem lies so much with how many cpl we get, but the fact that we have to transcribe dictators who obviously have no regard for the person doing the transcription. They seem to think it quite proper to eat, chew gum, have a conversation with someone in the background, lay the mic down and dictate or speaker phone, dictate on a cell phone, in a crowded room, and a host of other things that make transcription very, very difficult. When you throw in a whole slew of ESLs, there goes your money.
Question for QA folks
Quick question for QA. When an MT flags a report because of something simple like no date of consultation given, does QA generally get paid for all the lines on that report. I have a dictator who is very long, generally 100+ lines, and never gives the date of consultation, otherwise great dictator. No blanks. So unless it is dictated the same day the patient is admitted, I leave that field blank which automatically sends it to QA. QA has never once gotten back to me on this and on pulling up old reports it looks to me like they just go back in and put the general coding for the auto feed, though no date is provided. Since it is continuous with this doc it seems like a big waste of time and money not to get some instruction back on sending this directly to the client. I am wondering if this is just easy lines for QA and then if it shows up against me as far as editing. I know all companies are different, just wondering what the rule of thumb is. By the way, I have asked for feedback from QA multiple times and never get a response either way. Thanks.
Another question for QA folks
I typed "laparoscopy fundoplication" instead of laparoscopic.  Would you count this as a misspelled medical word or typo?  Thanks.
What about this scenario, folks!

What do you think of a manager of many MTs, who shares intimate details with each of us regarding her situation as a wife as well as sharing details of other MTs with each other, some extremely complicated and highly personal, which I believe were given to her in confidence.  Then, having her turn into a professional zealot and alienate us with her emotionless response to us which is such a contradiction to prior interactions that it leaves us spinning and feeling as if we do not know her at all.

I have come upon this before early in my career.  And I would say that changing ths subject in the conversation is the answer so to not end up in this web.  What do you think though?  It is awkward and confusing.

She is new at supervision and maybe it can be chocked up to that but she holds a lot of power over us and some whom she confided in during long emotion-filled  conversations, word has it, she has turned against to the point they had to transfer to another department.

It is placing a shadow over the job for me

Folks on here exceptional!
thanks so much for that!
