To all of you Escriptionist out there...Laptop question. Have any of you found a laptop that you can
thing. I tried one of those adapter that goes from the 9-pin to the USB but when I plugged in the USB my foot pedal did not work right. I know supposedly there is a help section on the escription website that says the adapter may work and how to make them compatible etc but it never worked for me. Has any of you find a solution or a laptop that this foot pedal with work with. I'd like to work while traveling and get a laptop but it never worked on my old one. Ideas??
Sony ones
Would these be the fold-up Sony® MDR-A35G Sports Headphones?
If so, um... they look like earbuds or at least work the same way. I need a regular headset -- something I can grab off in one easy movement without tangling in my hair (for those quick get-aways)
Sony
Sony USED to be good; I have three newer ones and they ALL are like that. I pay 100.00 - 125.00 to have them "fixed" and they work for a day or two and then back to more of the same. Save your money and don't buy these anymore until they fix them. I personally will never buy another one again. It is like a bottomless money pit for me at 600.00 plus and then every 6 months or so another 125.00 for each one. I was wondering if I were the only one. Now I know they all are probably the same worthless pieces of junk. I'm off to buy new ones and they definitely won't be Sony!
Sony for sure
I didn't have the exact same pair as the above poster, but they were Sony's for about $50 at Walmart. Just some earbuds that were supercomfy, crisp sound and had a nice long cord. I think they were actually marketed for the iPods.
Unfortunately, they didn't work too well once my dogs got hold of them. :-(
Go for the best! Sony, Philips - anything over $50.
Minimum $50 for a good pair. It never ceases to amaze me that MTs spend under $10 for the very thing that makes or breaks their work - Everything is based on what we hear. The difference is phenomenal between a cheap $10 headset and a good $50 and up one. Treat yourself well and go for a good set - again anything Sony or Philips over $50 - wireless are great - Sony makes a great rechargeable wireless. I prefer the Philips regular set that runs around $50. I can hear anything and everything perfectly, while my coworkers struggle and struggle. Invest in yourself and your career - you are WORTH IT!!
SONY DIGITAL HELP!!!
Well... this is the first time I have ever done anything like this, so bear with me! I have recently started typing for a clinic who is using the Sony ICD-BM1 recorder. After the doctor dictates, the office staff downloads the files from the memory stick and sends them via email. HOWEVER, the files are HUGE. A typical 1-2 minute dictation is coming across as 2 MB or more. I have an 8 minute dictation that came across this afternoon that was 87 MB after I converted it from an MP3 to WAV. I am well-versed in the Olympus DSS system and another office I type for uses it. Typically with the Olympus system it will take 25-30 dictation (1-3 minutes each) to even equal 2 MB. The particular office who uses Olympus is able to send me 30+ files at a time to download, whereas the office using Sony has to send them 1 at a time and usually 50% will bounce back to them.
So, my question is... Has anybody ever experienced this problem and, if so, HOW DO I FIX IT?? The other Transcriptionist (who actually works in-office) is getting ready to go out of town on vacation and we are hoping somebody can help us learn to compress the files before she leaves so that the other office personnel won't have to mess around with it as much as we do. TIA ~Missy
Need digital help! (Sony)
Anybody have docs who use a Sony digital recorder? My docs are recently using them and it is turning out that a single 2 minute dictation is coming across as 2 MB or more, thus 10 dictations are coming across as 20 MB or more, which in turn are being rejected by the email server. I have another clinic who uses Olympus DSS and it would take 30+ of 2-3 minute dictations to equal 2 MB. Is there a setting within the recorder that needs to be adjusted to make the files smaller? These individual files just seem so huge and it is making it difficult for the office to get them out via email because they have to be sent one at a time and I have to be on the other end to download and delete off the server before more will go through. (I only have a 10 MB email box). Any help would be appreciated. TIA!
I use Sony earbuds
Bought them (Radio Shack, $59) specifically to use with my iPod, but I tried them and love them for transcription. They come with three different-sized rubber pieces to fit your ears and block out noise. I tried all three before settling on the smallest one. Warning...they block noise so well that I almost had a heart attack when DD came for a visit and appeared out of nowhere. She said she rang the doorbell, but I never heard it. I also can't hear the the keyboard clicking or the grandfather clock bonging or the phone ringing or the dogs barking or DH hollering....love these earbuds!
sony wav pedal
I am not an ignorant person but I just can't figure out this wav pedal. Right now I am in tears because I can't get it to work. Can anyone teach me how to get the files onto the wav player and then transcribe them? I am so frustrated I could scream. Any help would be great. I have absolutely no experience in wav pedals, so I think that is my problem. Can you help? Is there a web site where they take you step by step through how to use it? Thanks
Sony hook-over-the-ear (sm)
Okay, so I don't know what you really call them, but I have tried sooo many different types of earphones because I am kind of funny about what feels good on my head.
I found these little Sony earphones that have a hook that is kind of like a pair of eyeglasses that holds the sponge-covered speaker to the outside of your ear. They are on a "Y" wire, so there is nothing over the head, and you can use just one if you need an ear to hear what the kids are getting into.
I bought mine at Radio Shack for about $20.00 last year, but I've seen them other places (probably even Walmart), so I'm sure if you're interested, you can find them. Sorry I can't remember what they are called. If not, e-mail me and I will take a picture of them and send it to you.
Sony Featherlight
I use Sony Featherlight Walkman headphones that you can buy at your local discount center. They go over your head and you barely even know you have them on. The sound is great, too!
Sony headphones...
I LOVE my Sony MDR-NC7 headphones. They sit right on my ears, are very comfortable, and when the noise cancelling feature is turned on, the sound is very crisp and clear. I don't know if you are in the market for noise cancelling, but I thought I would put my two cents in, since I do highly recommend these to anyone! I bought mine at Best Buy for $49.99.
Sony NC headphones...
Mine are model #MDR-NC7. I love them, they are very comfortable to wear, as they sit right on my ears, and are very cushy! The NC is great, I can even hear the doctors very clearly when my 4-year-old and husband are in the same room. I bought them at Best Buy for $49.99. I know that there are better ones out there, but for the price, I highly recommend these!
Get a pair of Sony earphones. sm
Like the ones kids plug into a portable disc player. I'm not talking about the "cheapies" that most kids use for the disc player with the little foam rubber spongy thingys. Get yourself a decent set that have "faux leather" with the big padding that cover both ears. You won't hear a thing outside of your earphones. Make sure the ear things cover both ears and have a lot of cushioning. A good pair might cost you 20 or 30 bucks, but is well worth it.
Good luck and godspeed MT comrade! :)
.
Just make sure the earphone attachment is the same size as your speakers.
I bought my Sony and Panasonic new on
ebay for about $40 apiece. That's been 5 years ago now. I use them both weekly. I don't know what the difference is between a Pearlcorder or any other machine.
sony foot pedal help
I lost the disk to download the installation for my Sony FS-85USB wav pedal when I moved recently. Any one know where I can get one or download the installation? Also, lost my red line under misspelled words in Word. How do I get it back?
There are Sony ones at Radio Shack sm
that were suggested to me so I bought a pair. They are silver and look sort of like Spock ears when you have them on. I think they come with a year warranty or maybe I bought that for a few cents, can't remember now. I really like those.
Sony® MDR-Q22LP w.ear™ Headphones (nm)
New Sony MDR-NC7 squeezing my head
They are comfy at first but after about 20 minutes my ears are killing me and the sound is not as great as I was hoping. Are there any other ideas. I thought about the Koss portapro or sportapro but don't know anything about them either. I have been using a cheap GE pair after my dog broke my good pair but have a new account that is impossible to hear on the best of days so I thought now is a good time to get a replacement. Unfortunately the Sony's just aren't the ones I'm looking for. I can't handle anything over this price range though.
Elssa - Sony answering machine
You mentioned in your post that the docs called in on your Sony answering machine. Could you please tell me what model that was and how it worked for transcription.
Thanks

anyone using Expres Scribe? can you use SONY pedal with it? NM
12 pin Sony foot pedal, adaptor?
I use it with a Sony micro dictator/transcriber but I'm finally jumping into the 21st century. Anyone know if I can find a USB adaptor for such a foot pedal or will I need to invest in a new foot pedal? If so, where should I get one? I'd like to buy one locally, or do I need to but it online?
Thanks!
Anyone tried the Sony wireless headphones or another brand - sm
I currently have a Radio Shack version (900 MHz) but there is an awful hissing sound with every word of dictation. I like them because they allow you to turn the volume of your dictation up very high, which is perfect for my low-talkers, but the hissing noise is driving me crazy. Thanks in advance for any help or info you can provide.
Sony M2000 transcriber question
Just bought a Sony M2000 microcassette transcriber from Goodwill for $6.99 with all accessories. (buy of the year!!) Can someone tell me how to erase tapes? I currently use a Panasonic, so I'm not quite sure how it works. I'm sure the answer is right in front of my eyes. Thanks alot!!
P.S. The temperamental Sony unit was a bargain at $100! Ouch!
Anybody want to sell me a bridge?
I use the Sony dynamic stereo headphones that go over the years. I don't have a
hearign problem yet, but they shut out alot of outside noise (like the kids), and are very comfortable.

laptop
I WOULD USE A LAPTOP. THIS CONDITION HAS TAKEN MY WHOLE LIFE FROM ME. MY JOB , MY INDEPENDENCE, BUT I REFUSE TO LET IT GET ME DOWN ALL THE WAY. AT HOME YOU ARE ABLE TO CHANGE POSITIONS OFTEN, GET UP AND WALK AROUND, SIT IN A DIFFERENT PLACE, LAY DOWN IF NEED BE. MY DAUGHTERS ARE NOT USED TO DOING WITHOUT AND I DO NOT INTEND FOR THEM TO START NOW. ANY POSITIVE HELP IS MUCH NEEDED, BUT I GUESS YOU CAN KEEP THE BAD TO YOURSELF. MAYBE I JUST DONT WANT TO FEEL LIKE THERES NOTHING I CAN DO. MAYBE I DONT WANT TO GIVE UP AND FILE FOR DISABILTY JUST YET. ANY HELPFUL ADVICE WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED. THANK YOU SO MUCH.

I use a laptop too
We bought it a year before I started working - not knowing what the required ports would be for foot pedals, etc. I have a Compaq Presario. I also have Bellsouth high speed internet connection. It works for me fine even when I go out of town.
laptop is the only way to go s/m
I would never have a big computer again! I have worked on DocQScribe and other internet platforms and never had any problems. Also have BellSouth DSL. My computer is a Dell Inspiron. If any disasters strike here that I can see coming will load the pets some clothes and the Dell and take off. Good luck getting put back together!
Laptop
Can you tell me which Dell you purchased - I am trying to decide which one would meet my needs - using DQS as well. Thanks
Anyone using a laptop?
Am in the market for a laptop and looking for suggestions. Thanks.
laptop
Yes, but hook up an ergonomic keyboard and a mouse. The portability of it is great.
Laptop
I use my laptop as a backup or to work when I am out of town. The only problem with it is the smaller screen. Performance is no different than my PC though. I do have a regular keyboard for it, and a mouse.
Laptop
I have a Dell Inspiron 2500 but it has nowhere near the memory to download from an outside transcription company. Another problem is the footpedal, how on earth would you use this in your automobile. As well, the DSL, how on earth can you tell when you're traveling if you have access to same? This would be a lifesaver for me, as I have osteoporosis and can go like mad in my recliner without back pain which kills when I use my desktop. I sure would be one happy gal if I could work from a laptop. You do get used to the keyboard, I thought at first I would never, ever have any speed, but one does get used to it. Please e-mail me or write any suggestions here. How much minimal memory do you have on your laptop to comply with companys you work for?
Laptop
Does anyone out there use a laptop for transcription?
laptop
on cold days, in front of the fire place. in the summer, outside....can't live without my laptop!
laptop
I use my laptop in a regular desk setting and I use a regular keyboard with it, not the laptop keyboard. I like to sit outside on the balcony in the spring, summer, fall, but I have never not used a desk; can't imagine using it in my lap. I think that would be too uncomfortable, but hey that's just me. I have a very comfortable chair. I mainly have mine because I travel quite a bit and this way, I can take my work with me if I want.
laptop
My step-dad is an over-the-road truck driver and he uses a laptop with a PC card just as you are describing. He loves it and has no problems whatsoever unless he is in an area where there is no service (just like with a cell phone).
My Laptop is
an HP Pavilion and I love it - one thing to be sure of is that you get one with a good big screen or a port where you can connect our monitor, and be sure it has a port for your keyboard (USB if you have that kind of keyboard). You'll never be able to do any good at MTing with the tiny keyboard that a laptop has. I made a big mistake by buying one without a floppy drive, but it's not hard to get an exernal floppy drive (ask me how I know) and costs about $50. As for the internal stuff ie RAM, hard drive, that's in pretty much the same ballpark as a desk top, get as much as you can possibly afford.
Laptop use
I also would be curious as to how this would be done. How do you get your voice files? How do you use a foot pedal? My husband drives semi and this sure would be nice for going with him on long runs.
laptop
Anybody use a laptop for MT work? Is is pretty reliable when you are using wireless? I assume you have to have an electrical output for the foot pedal. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!
laptop
No, you don't have to have an outlet. Your foot pedal plugs directly into your laptop. You might need an adapter for the USB port, but I have done it, and it works great! I bought a hub for my laptop because I have to use my ergonomic keyboard instead of the laptop keyboard. Everything plugs in, and then you are ready to go. It's really great as far as I'm concerned.
Laptop
I use a laptop for work and had only had a few times whem my wireless network card has gone out for one reason or another. It's a little slow, I would say somewhere between dial-up and the slowest DSL/cable connection. The only electrical outlet that I use is the one to plug mjy laptop into. I have a USB foot pedal and that just plugs into the USB port at the side of the computer.
One thing that I would DEFIINITELY check on first though is making sure that the software that you use supports a wireless connection. One of the companies that I work for, I have no problems using my wireless. However, with the other company, I still have to use my dial up connection to download my files as their particular software does not work with a wireless connection.
Hope this helps.
Laptop anyone?
Does anyone use a laptop to do their daily transcription? Just curious?
laptop
Which laptop is best?
laptop
I don't know everything about computers, but I will just throw out a suggestion to you...do you have an (I think its called) an ethernet card in your lap top, and the place that you took you laptop to...did they have a wireless router so that your computer could get the signal from the router in order to get online.....A lot of people think that just because they have a laptop, that they can get online anywhere...I'm sure you know this, but your laptop has to have the card and the place you are at has to be giving out a signal in order for you to get on, other than that I don't understand why it would not work...it should have? Let me know what you find out if you don't mind becasue I am considering getting a laptop so that I can take my work with me when I want to be away from my home for a few days!
Thanks!
laptop
Thanks for responding. The place I went cannot get online, but I downloaded the files before I left while I could still get online. I was stil at home and online when I tried to get the wav files to play, but it would not allow it. Someone told me once I may need to download a codec, so I am looking into that, too.
Laptop
I purchased a laptop recently, so I can take it with me when I travel. I use autocorrect in Word 2003 for my shortcuts; does anyone know how to copy and move these entries onto my laptop? How about my medical spellchecker? I appreciate any advice on this subject. Thanks!
