I was thinking about this situation with companies that hire people and then there is no work. When
you think about that, that is about as low as anyone can get to just run people out of work for whatever reason when people need money to live, pay bills, support children and feed them, etc. When you really think about that, people's lives hinge on their income and as far as I am concerned, that is the worst thing any company can due to the people that work for them. That is how I feel today because I have been out of work and scrounging for lines and I am disgusted with the whole business. I hope that companies will soon wake up and stop doing this to people. It is disgusting.
Well, I have 25 years experience also in all work types
and only do acute care with a line rate of 10.5 cpl M-F and 11 cpl on the weekends.

You can negotiate it a little harder, and you will get it depending on their needs, I guess.

It is MDI-Maryland.
Well I don't know anything with all my years experience because I only transcribe clinic work ..
Other than that, I see quite a few replies to your original message so hmmm
Do you need to have 2 years full time experience or just 2 years' experience? nm

What companies hire....

international/over seas MTs? I have been looking and looking for a decent job that hires MTs from Canada, are their any?

RE: What companies hire
Spheris.
Does anyone know of companies who hire
I currently transcribe but miss medical billing. I would love to find a job working from home. Please post response or email me.

Any companies out there still hire

WHY do companies say they hire QA from within? Do
they not understand that MT and QA are two completely different positions, and that if an MT wanted a QA position, she would've applied for it in the first place?  This has got to be the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard of.  Rather than hire someone with 10+ years of QA experience, you'd rather 'promote' an MT to become a newbie QA & have to train them from scratch how to QA? Or make someone who's been a professional QA for years become an MT again, when the reason they became a QA in the first place probably had to do with their hands giving out?!  Again, it's not a promotion -- it's a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT JOB.  Sometimes I wonder if the people in charge of making these decisions have any MT experience at all.  <end of rant>
Sometimes companies hire ICs for
overflow, sometimes permanently. As an IC you do have to purchase your own insurance and you get no vacation time. Some places will pay extra for holidays even as an IC, but you will not get "holiday pay" if you do not work. You set your own hours, if the MTSO is willing for you to work those fine. They cannot set in stone your hours, but they CAN say when they have work available if it is not 24/7 and you can choose to work or not.
And that will happen right after the companies who hire...
these illegals finally start getting punished by breaking the law that says they canNOT hire illegals! The whole term "illegal" has taken on quite a new meaning, hasn't it? Just refers to the US citizens these days, I guess - get caught speeding get a ticket. Get caught creeping into our country, get amnesty. Such a world this has come to!!!!
How is one going to get experience, when no one will hire without experience????
I constantly see all these job openings asking for experience.  How can I get experience, when no one will hire me without experience???
I'd start looking now. Few companies hire newbies so

it make take a while to find a position, or at least a legit one.  There are some companies that will offer to mentor you for no pay or almost no pay.  Avoid any company that says you need equipment/software and you have to buy it from them.  You may need equpiment/software for the position, but should not have to buy from them.

MQ and many other companies hire people for 40 hours
a week with a minimum production amount, but still required to work 40 hours a week, some say 32 hours a week, but a minimum number of hours either way.
Many companies hire new grads for SR editing.
nm
What companies other than MQ hire statutory employees and are they hiring now.
:
Does anyone know why some companies won't hire you if you have satellite internet service? TIA
x
Are there any companies out there OTHER than MQ that hire part time SE or IC that are internet based
that are a decent company that supply you with a decent amount of work.
Just curious, are there companies who just hire ER MT?? I just left my hospital position due to voi

Did he have blood work w/his job physical? Maybe they missed something. nm

IF by PT you mean Physical Therapy -- it's EASY! I love PT, don't get it where I work now tho
x
Hey honey, you can work at home and no one will care about your physical appearance. sm
I actually hired a girl one time who was overweight. She could not BELIEVE I would hire her. I told her I did not care if she weighed 1000 pounds, if she could do the work, she was okay by me.
Physical um um um Thrappy for physical therapy!

In my experience, most companies sm
determine your time by your local time.  So second shift would be approximately 3 p.m. you time until 11 p.m. your time.  Third shift would be 11 p.m. or midnight until 6 or 7 am your time.  The all vary a little, but usually go by your local time, not the time of the accounts you are working.
Many companies will waive the experience (sm)

if you go to one of the "big three" schools, i.e., Andrews, M-TEC, or Career Step.

Too bad companies don't pay by QUALITY instead of experience. nm
x
I don't think DW is not looking to hire anyone but is looking for work herself - nm
x
only the companies that partner with each school will waive the experience
you need to ask those three schools more about that option. The services that don't partner with the schools are not likely to waive the experience.
I work for a company that will NOT hire editors:
The feeling there is that if you don't know your stuff, you're OUT. I don't know how many people have come and gone, but I've been on the same team for about 5 years now, so she's doing something right in her hiring.
Hire someone to work per diem or for a weekend. NM

Or why not hire an IC to work on the account under you? You found it
and it is your reputation and bidding that sealed the account, why not ask IC's to BID on it. You might find somebody who loves derm work and wants the money. Even if you only make 1-2 cpl over your IC it adds up.
Great company but like everyone else they over hire. Haven't had work since before Christmas *sm
because it is a slow time and I refuse to get up at 4:00 a.m. to beat someone else to it.  I am in the process of obtaining a second and third account and am going to start looking out for myself from now on.  I now understand why there is such a turnaround with MTs and companies - seems like the companies overhire and then the MT has to look elsewhere - they work at the new company for awhile until they find that they have now over hired and then they look elsewhere.   I have been with MDI for a few years and I plan to stay there but I am going to take on another job or even two so I do not sit idle when times are slow.
Okay, quit bragging and hire someone then. Lots of people need work. nm
.
How many years experience as MT? nm
x
Yes, I could see 9 CPL with 18 years experience!
I am just a newbie doing clinic reports. I get 7 CPL and am grateful that MQ was willing to hire me right out of school. I sure hope all the bad rumors do not materialize. I am hoping to get in more experience before the rug is ripped out from under me. I am glad that you posted. There were rumors about the 'new' minimum lines being 8,000 PPP and I am only up to 6,000. So I might be Okay in that area. Did they state anything about any certain percentage of reports going to QA. That is another rumor going around, that only 15% of reports can go to QA, which does not make sense as I know they don't want us GUESSING what the doctor said!
With 2 years experience!
It is a good thing to make that much with so little experience. HOw did you start editing with only 2 years experience? How can you possibly know enough of the language of medicine to edit? I call someone with 2-4 years experience a newbie not an experienced editor.
Is this right? MUST HAVE: 2 years' experience
bn
15 years of experience and you don't know
x
Well, she's now said she has 16 years MT experience
and explain to me how she has been in this field for 16 years and does not know medical terminology?  An impossibility.  Maybe she did not understand their format, how to access or send back work, any number of other issues - but if you have that many years experience - you definitely know what you are doing MT-wise.  And I am the poster from below who was let go after all the changes by the MTSO - and her true belief that her way was the RIGHT way and the only way and how could I not see that (???).... there are so very, very rude people out there - lucky for you perhaps you have not met one yet - your time may still come - and perhaps you will take a different attitude.  I agree that there are really some dingy MTs out there - I do QA - I see it daily - the terms are hysterical they come up with - well they are funny when they are not serious - but you don't last 16 years and not know your stuff.
Thanks. You can do it with 14 years' experience! (nm)

7 years experience here, doing
multispecialty clinic work for local lady who has her own accounts and get .10 per gross line, also work for a medium sized national and get 7.5 per 65-char line. Same as the other poster, would rather have enough of the .10 per line, but it is not there.
With 22 years of experience. :)

10 years experience s/m

I've been with MQ for going on 10 years now and only make 7.75 cpl.  I am a "tier 2" - doing acute care basic 4, clinics, specialty clinics and even some cardiac procedures and OP notes.  I recently interviewed with 3 companies and was offered anywhere from 8.5 to 9.5 cpl.  With your experience, I would certainly expect to be making 9 cpl, unless you can pick up some private accounts on your own.

Another thing to consider is whether or not you'll be needing benefits.  My experience has been that IC pay is a little better because there are no benefits.  The line rates I listed above do not include any incentives which may be offered.  That's also something you should take into consideration when looking.  Those rates are based on a 65-character line - spaces and demographics included.

I have 15 years experience, mostly
heme/onc, endocrine, ortho, etc. I have been exposed to op notes for the past 8 weeks and absolutely despise them - cannot make my line counts after previously being well above what is needed. If you can afford to take the cut in pay to learn them, go for it, but I sure cannot.
Someone with 30 years experience does not need CMT after their name.

Okay, 25 years experience,
and STILL having this problem.  Now I don't feel so bad. I really feel for you! I don't know about the QA keeping busy, as they are always complaining how swamped they are. They just get mad when you send too many blanks and they are supposed to fix it, when the real person to be upset with s/b the dictator! Do they talk to THEM, no! Then stop complaining already!
How many years experience do you have? If over 10,
I mean, if you have 10, 20, 30 years experience, how do you like receiving the same pay as a newbie just out of school or with only 6 months to 2 years experience? Don't you think you've paid your dues and earned your stripes and deserve better pay than what the noobs get?
I have 3 years experience.
I agree that someone with many years experience should get somewhat higher pay. But more experience doesn't always equal a better MT. There are some people in this field who have been around a long time and probably shouldn't be in it. And like it or not, if you want to make decent money, you have to be fast. Accurate and knowlegeable also, but if you're not fast and using every tool at your disposal, you'll never make good money.
years experience sm
If you go at it looking for a job, and put in 10 years or so, it'll come back as no jobs fitting that category - in other words, no one is willing to pay for people WITH experience!!
I have almost 30 years experience and
am making 9 to 11 cpl on a tiered system at my FT job and 10 cpl at my IC job.
or it could be MTs with 5 or more years experience...
I have been an MT for 10 years and I am only 31 :)
