I transcribe 200+ pages per month at $5.00 a page for a local hospital and write resumes as well. The resumes pay better and have over 7000 in my repertoire, however, my first love is MT.

Why this statement? What about us older ones? I just do not get that statement because I would think experience counts a lot in this job.

I operate a computerized accounting service - bookkeeping, taxes, payroll.
HRBLOCK.Com has classes online. If your good in math, might be a good fit. Flexible hours, good pay. I have my own clients but have worked for them before. I plan to get an advanced certification to specialize in sole proprietors, partnerships, S-corps, etc. Just shi----n around, I can make $5000 during tax season. Before I had my baby, I made 14,000 during tax season.....Sky is the limit if you're a fast learner.....

My hands kill me just about every day now, and looking at my hands i have muscle breakdown and twitching, so i'd like to cut down on typing. Want to find something to do on the side to earn maybe 1000 to 1500 dollars a month. Was thinking about ebay, but i'm doubtful I could make that much, even though they hype up the advertisement by saying you could make 3000 MINIMUM. I'm just desperate and feel like my hands are about to fall off. I've spent close to 1000$ this year alone in keyboards, gloves, splints, doc visits, meds, changed my station around, hot soaks, cold soaks, exercises, stretches, vitamins. still my hands just sing every day esp at night. So any extra money earning ideas you guys? thanks |

Anyone have any ideas on how to get some extra money? sm
I have been working a lot over the past several months. I had gotten sick and missed some work so many months back. Got behind on my mortgage, car payment, etc...I am almost caught up but it seems like the little bit more that I have to go, about 2k, I cannot get caught up. My work is limited...Any suggestions? I am so close to throwing in the towel, which is not good. My husband is disabled. Help.

Extra shift or extra work
Has anyone taken on an extra job or shift with a new company for a just a few months to get out of debt or to be able to pay for something that is needed or wanted? I am thinking about taking on another job to get out of a stressful debt situation. I am just afraid I would be going into another stressful situation working more hours with the very busy family schedule I have.

I have worked a full-time plus a part-time job for the last 15 years. I would say I most definitely "earn my keep".

Maybe to you that's not a decent wage, or maybe you're not as fast. I don't know. But this IS production-based work. So type more and earn more. I think I clear about 14,000 lines in a 40-hour work week and I bring TAKE HOME about $4K a month. To ME that's good money. Maybe I'm stupid. I know people that earn much more (are much faster than I) at 7.5 CPL. Call me dumb, but I think that's good take home.

As far as I know you can earn up to a certain amount - you cannot exceed a certain percentage of the
salary you were making when you took your disability. I do not think it is uncommon to work as you could certainly not make it on disability alone.
What kind of retirement tells you how much you can earn?
I will start drawing from a pension plan this April - I have absolutely nothing saying I can or cannot make X amount of dollars a month. How did you get a retirement that tells you what you can make? This sounds strange to me.

RUN, do not walk away! I do an entirely different side business now that I really love (in addition to my MTing, which I also love!) Find something you're good at and that you truly love doing. Then make a business out of it. That's the best way to have a side business. Selling discount toilet paper through Amway/Quixtar? Not so much.
The CMT exam is overrated. Don't waste your time & money. Use that money on
paid anymore just because you have it. There are a few CMT cheerleaders that post to people like you but they are pretty well sucked up into that association.

if you do bring it to the attn of the office manager, why not offer her a raise to compensate. it is obvious she just needs or wants more money than your office is paying her. I agree, it is a free country and although it seems odd, unless you had it outlined in contract, she can work for whomever or whereever she pleases on the side. at least she is typing and not at a strip joint, lol. I see no conflict of interest, she has experience obviously in whichever field you are in and what is wrong with doing extra in that field. i agree with MYOB "nicely" and concentrate on your reports than looking at older reports and seeing who they are typed by.

because I'm able to produce more--if the company doesn't adjust the way production's figured down and down again to keep the account from going elsewhere (when that happened to me on EditScript with no explanation of why my income was dropping, I went elsewhere also).

Unless there are a ton of STATs, it doesn't cause that much of a TAT issue.

not the modem thing - which is what will probably go! The LX-219 is cheap on ebay but the modem is not so cheap.
I have no backup computer but I there are other computers in my house that I could use.

I was wondering if any of you MTSOs, or MTs that work for an MTSO, offer any extra services to your clients? For example, do you do their envelopes and labels as well? Or anything else? Keeping in mind that you are not in the same town and that your employees are not in the office or even same state as you, lol. Thanks for any suggestions!

I just said I DON'T have the extra cash.
However, I'm not going to shop there because what comes around, goes around. If I don't support the other small businesses in my area, they won't support my business or my husband's business.

So if your total tax bill for last year was $4000, you need to make sure by the end of this year that he has had $4000 (plus a little extra for fudge) taken out. Otherwise you will get fined. Probably easier to get it taken out of his than to do the extra forms to fed and state and write the checks and keep track and add it to your income tax form next year...
You have to pay extra to get the Dongle
A little thing that plugs into your USB so that you can use it unlimited times. I think that cost about $30 extra. That's why I did because I know for a fact that I'll need more than 3 installs.
