Do you think nurses and front office professionals look sloppy?

I don't like to go around looking "sloppy all day" either, but is it really practical to work comfortably in nylons and suit jackets when I am sitting and typing all day? No thanks -- I can't work well that way!
I refuse to wear sweats or jammies because I want my work to reflect my professionalism and I think the way I feel about myself reflects that -- hence, scrubs, which medical professionals wear. I am a medical professional and I don't think there is anything sloppy about wearing tasteful, professional, and comfortable scrubs.
Do you think that front office people, nurses, and doctors look "sloppy all day" by wearing scrubs?

Since I am female and live alone, I want to see if any activity takes place. Everyone else on my street other than a retired gentlmen who is frail is gone for the work day. Mostly, I see people putting flyers on the door for carpet shampooing or Jehovah's Witnesses. I don't think I am considered hateful, just not friendly. It is okay, I have enough friends lol

Well said. And that is why I am fed up with the whining. It reflects badly on us all. If someone interested in MT comes on and reads the posts, they are going to think MT is full of whiners who are at the mercy of the companies. They will read posts with simple typos and think you don't have to be precise and professional to do this job. That is not how I want my profession to be viewed, especially when I think of all the hard work I put into this job. So take you typos and whining to a blog, where just those of you with no pride in your profession and no ambition will have to be witness to it.

Management IS the devil. By the way, what's it like up there in mananagement, with your 6-figure income, your executive healthcare, and salary-not-hourly status? Especially when you sit in your office all day surfing Amazon & eBay? Must be nice, Beelzebub. But I'll never sell my soul for it.
At-Home Professionals
I thought the training there was excellent. At the time, I was very frustrated with all the ESL docs they had, but now i'm glad they did that because while other MTs are shying away from ESLs, I'm getting that work and getting paid a premium for it. It took me a little while to find a job, but I've been working now for over seven years and I never regretted taking those courses. Your best bet would be to start with local doctors and get some experience first. Good luck to you!

school professionals are not always "perfect"
In my own experience, my daughter was upset all the time, crying, acting out, etc. I was receiving phone calls quite often, but I knew my daughter. She was in th 4th grade already. I met with teacher it was only about 2 months into the school year. It was actually the teacher my daughter had, who was new to the area and the district and seem very timid. I changed her to a teacher who I knew from before with her brothers and was outgoing, gave lots of praise to all the children and really interested in the kids. My daughter was back to herself..
I have also had problems with the principals, and one was a psychologist. They will try to "bully" you, so you have to stand up for your children. I even had them take off a suspension on her record because it was unfair, as I had many times spoke with the principal about some girls teasing my daughter and hitting her many times and my daughter never did anything and finally was tired of it and hit back and she was suspended. All the other times the other girls never were suspended but they were just talk to. The principal never took the time to speak to the kids before this happened. She just thought my child had issues, but in the end I showed her that my child did not have issues.
Anyway, my older son has ADHD, so it took a teacher who was patient, caring, and who expand the mind of the children not just classify the children with learning disabilities as "worthless" and put them aside.
I have walked into class without notice to see what is going on; I have stayed to help out for awhile.
If you do not get anywhere with the school officials, speak with the superintendent; go up the ladder, make waves. Make sure to document everything, person you spoke to, time, date, etc. Believe me this will help enormously.
We have to be there for our children. We also need to remember they are imperfect, they will also make mistakes and they do need to take the consequences of their actions.

If the trained professionals at the school can't handle him,
why do you think you'll be able to work and homeschool him at the same time? I'm not slamming you, but I don't think working and trying to educate your child at the same time is the solution. Maybe try switching teachers or switching schools. Have you had him evaluated by his pediatrician or obtained a referral to someone else? What kind of phone calls are they? Is he acting up? Have you asked him WHY he's doing these things? Kids need to be socialized. They need to learn how to cope with other people. They also need to learn that being part of a society means that you're not always the center of attention. My SIL is going through this with her kid. He's being an absolute beast because he doesn't like the teacher and she has 19 other kids she needs to pay attention to. He wants attention, any attention, so he's acting out. I don't know if your situation is similar to this one or not. I'm just saying that sometimes sticking it out and finding the root of the problem is better than trying to have your attention focused in two different but important places.
MT Bashing by nurses
I found this on a nurse's blog - they were talking about MT mistakes they found in charts...
Nurse #1:
I tried to get a job as a medical Transcriptionist for extra money, and no one would hire me because my 15 years experience of direct patient care does not qualify me to be a transcriptionist. Oh really? Or, I guess I mean, Owe Reilly?
Nurse #2:
I have no idea why they wouldn't let you work as a transcriptionist - what sort of special training would you need that you wouldn't already have?! It might be a good way to make ends meet if there came a point where a nurse couldn't stand up for so long anymore. It doesn't seem like it would take much in the way of critical thinking skills...
We don't use critical thinking skills? Darn, then maybe I should look into the career opportunities at Burger King...
The nurses do all that, except maybe the scalpels.

Thank God for some nurses who DO dictate...
for the docs who are horrible dictators. I do progress notes for an ICN nursery almost nightly. Thank GOD for those nurses. There are 2 docs right from the old country who can't string a sentence together in English though good docs they may be. We're talking 7-8 page very detailed reports on some of these babies. The other night, one of these gals dictated the first part, God love her, and actually handed the phone to the doc to give his 2 cents worth, awful dictator. Hey, the best thing some of these docs can do is let their PAC's do the dictating!!!

The client is based in the United States that is providing training and education to health care professionals.
The client is looking to outsource the process to outsource agents who can write exam questions from the source material (source material can come from journal articles, books, etc.)
1. The client will provide the source material either by email or by providing the web address.
2. The outsource agent will write multiple choice questions from the source material provided. Each question will only have 4 possible answers, with only one answer being correct.
3. The client will designate the number of questions required per course.
4. The outsource agent will format the questions in a format that will be provided.
5. The outsource agent will email the questions to the client for review and editing.
6. The client will email the edited questions back to the outsource agent.
7. The outsource agent will upload the edited questions to the client website.
The client will pay one dollar US ($1) for each question written.
We believe that for a typical set of question will require 15 questions and will most likely take about 3 hours to complete. This equals about $5 US per hour. We anticipate rejecting some of the questions that are developed, though the client will consider paying for the development. The client will work with the selected agents in the future to assist with question development.

please justify the 20 minutes I had to sit and listen through all because the doc left his hand held recorder on. I actually had to sit there and listen to him urinate AND defecate! Immediately after hearing the toilet flush, I could hear the door open and then several footsteps that led him to meet, greet, and converse some more. I was more appalled at the fact that such a "well-educated" medical professional didn't care enough to wash his germ infested hands after his restroom break. Unbelievable.
any previous nurses MTing now?
Hi there, I have been an MT for 4 1/2 years now, and I enjoy it for the most part, but I've really been thinking of finishing my BSN degree. I had started college as a nursing major back in 1988, but dropped out after two years of completion of the prerequisite classes. I have always had an interest in the medical field so MT'ing has been interesting, but I've really been wanting to finish up my nursing degree though, I have always regretted not finishing it. Especially when I do the operative eports I really would like to be in the operating room working. So, anyway, I have put my application in for the BSN program again and waiting to see if I get readmitted. Are there are any former nurses out there who are MT'ing on this board, or perhaps any nurses doing MT'ing too who have any opinions? Or are there any other fellow MT's going to nursing school on here and have any input about it? If you are a previous nurse who is now a MT how come, and vice versa, if there are any MT's who are presently in nursing school please let me know how it is going for you.
The very WORST MTs I have ever done QA for were nurses for 20 plus years!
Mind you, this was after they graduated from one of the *Big 3* schools to boot. I know most MTs can type circles around them. They were asleep at the wheel most of the time!
And just how many MTs transcribe NURSES' notes?
Nurses document about 2 sentences, so their work is amenable to point-and-click.
Physicians who typically scribble very short notes don't dictate anyway, so you're not losing anything by them using point-and-click.
The ones who dictate do so because their notes are too long to write. It's just about as annoying to point-and-click them in an EMR as it is to type them out by hand, so most physicians who value their time do not wish to waste it fooling with computers. At our facility, they continue to dictate.
Hospital dictation is not usually suitable for point-and-click. It's too long and some physicians are able to dictate at the speed of light, so they would lose too much time writing it themselves.
I'll share one reason some doctors do want to do it themselves: the quality of the transcribed reports they get back is so bad they can't stand it. They figure if it looks terrible and is crammed full of nonsense, they might as well do it themselves. At least, it'll make sense.
There are no dictators, physicians, nurses, PAs or the like
who don’t dictate on the VR I use, wish I did not have the crap dictators as you call them but they are not left out on my end. I really, really hate it now when I do get a straight report to type I am so happy with the VR I do. I think before long most big places will go that route, little ones not so much as I think VR costs quite a bit.

MORE medical terms cuz halo the docs were professors, and they let me play PA under their supervision, then w/comp supervisor, then pregnant, then had to find a PMs job and landed in transcription dept as trainee. If I could meet their requirements, I stuck. If not, I was fired. I stuck.

It is VERY irritating. They spend all their time looking at the keyboard and screen and not at you, the patient. Worse yet, when you go back the next time, you find they entered wrong information.

you can't teach nursing classes without nurses to teach the classes - that's part of the shortage and part of the reason why the shortage continues. Also more nurses are going for the bachelor's degree (4 years vs. 2 years) and that is extending the time before they are out in the work force.

Most of my docs cannot spell medical terms. They can't pronounce or spell drugs. The nurses are for the most part useless - no ARNP I ever asked could help me with a medical term.
I just spoke to my HMO. They are now offering personal Online-charts showing
visits, tests, immunizations, etc. of what you personally had done.
I asked EXACTLY HOW DOES THIS INFO GET INTO THE SYSTEM, at what point?
The woman said: It is input by the doc and the nurses.

Be up front
I'd be up front with them and just flat out tell them that you'd rather they didn't contact your current employer. Most companies understand that. Offer plenty of references so they have a way to gauge your work.

usually on my note pad or a patient list, makes it interesting too. But she doesn't usually stay long, and if the dogs are in she hides ---her and the Husky are mortal enemies, granted it does not help that he tried to eat/kill her a couple weeks go-- our signals got crossed and my husband let the dogs in before I could up up the gates to ensure her safety. Luckily I was right there and was able to grab the dog before anything really bad happened. So my husband learned an important lesson that day...communicate with me when you let the dogs in, or put up the gates first.
Had a drive-by shooting right in front of my
home office window in July. Unfortunately, a baby got shot in the head. I thought it was someone setting off cherry bombs or something - the pops were too close together I thought for gunfire. It was 2 girls and a stroller and they didn't even realize the baby had been shot at first. It was a big howdy-do. The cops were out here for hours, blocking off the streets so they could look for shell casings. A couple of news trucks too, although the subsequent TV news reports were somewhat inaccurate regarding the location and details. Never found out what happened to the baby.
Anyway, right after this happened, the guy and teenager kid across the street stayed away from their house for about 2 weeks after, coming by periodically to check on the mail. The cops would occasionally call on the house during that time. I never did find out what the deal was and if there was connection between these people and the shooting, but I always worry about a gang thing or a home invasion thing and they get the wrong house (mine).
OK. Now there are construction guys out front
using a big saw to cut through our new concrete sidewalks that have already been dug up twice since being put in this spring. I can't hear to work. They didn't even warn us of any construction or water shutoffs. How many times do they have to dig up the same old spot this year before they get it right?
