It really chaps my buns, and I will not work for any company that sends work out of the U.S.  How do you feel about it???

I won't work for a company that offshores.

I always ask if the company offshores. I have turned down

multiple positions because the companies offshore.  I'm now in a dilemma as my company has started offshoring.   They are not taking work from me to offshore, but they could not find enough qualified MTs to keep TAT where it needed to be and we were having to work like dogs.  They knew they had to do something so they went offshore.  I'm still not sure what the difference is - if they have to proof 100% of the offshore work, why can't you proof 100% of U.S MTs and train them trained, even getting a newbie, someone who didn't have the attitude that this is they way I've always done it, etc.  I've seen the work that comes back from India and it is not client ready.

I have several years invested with this company.  They pay better than anything I have been able to find thus far, I'm comfortable with my accounts, the platform is easy, etc.   So what do I do now?   There are very few companies that don't offshore, either to India or another country, and they are currently training women in Trinidad, so more work will eventually follow.  If I do find a company that doesn't offshore, how long will it be before they do start offshoring.   I honestly never thought I would be in the position that I am.

don't work for a company that offshores
The only chance we have, since our president obviously doesn't care, is to NOT work for any company that offshores. Hang up your headphones and walk out.

Otherwise, all is lost. You may have a job today, but it will be gone tomorrow - just as soon as they can get those offshore jerks trained enough to spell "dokter."
Not true. I work for a company that offshores.
Good grief.

I just saw another MT site advertising a service that offshores that boasts the company as

transcription companies in the US!  Of course, it doesn't surprise this long time MT considering the owner of the site highly promotes offshore transcription.  I am disgusted and have canceled their newsletter.

Care to share the name of the company??? nm
x
Care to share your method and/or company?
Sounds like you might be in Radiology. Appreciate.
Anyone care to share name of Company that pays so much?
I'm interested
Oh I care, it's making a joke of the company
that used to be a professional organization. You think clients don't see this? Think again.
As far as company VR for critical care it is not very good and I agree with the other poster. I tend
to leave little words in or if I have to take a lot of words out an extra word gets stuck in. It is a mess. If you are speaking of your own person VR at home to help I know nothing about that. With companies at this stage of the game you will not increase your productivity as you think.
SPHERIS offshores
They told the hospital I was working in that they didn't but low and behold, they do. They joined up with Healthscribe, who makes no bones about the fact that they have a company in India. COUNT YOUR BLESSINGS THAT THEY HAVEN'T CALLED BACK.
Whoah! I did not know OSi offshores-how do you know this? (sm)

I've only been there 9 months. One of the reasons I applied to OSi was that I heard they did NOT offshore.

I have enjoyed 'almost' every minute of working for them. I have only run out of work twice and then they switched me to another account so I could keep going.  In fact, lately,  I've put in extra time because the workload is so heavy.

I am not fresh out of school, either, been an MT for 11 years, but this is my first national. They pay on time and direct deposit. Bennies are decent. QA are nice to work with, and they all are willing to answer questions anytime. They don't bug you either. No whips are cracked over my head. If I have a problem with my service at home... which I had power failures twice (just my luck-never had any in 15 years), no problem. I made up the hours later.

I'm sorry, but I don't agree with the posts against OSi. They've been good to me, but if they offshore, I'll be thinking differently. Maybe I'll suggest they offshore the ESL work to them.

I really want to know where you got your info on outsourcing. TIA.

The offshores should be charging more, too....
... even though lots of their work is cr@p.
But the problem is, as long as the offshores
sell themselves so cheaply, even those workers in the US who have not been displaced will still have trouble eking out a living on such a low wage.
Spheris also offshores to India. Shameful.

Transcend does not send work offshores...sm
and continues to fight against offshoring.
I have been told and read that Medware offshores. I think you can do better.
There are many American companies that do not offshore. Please steer clear of any offshoring companies at any cost.
Transcend has taken on new clients and Spheris offshores so they are not allowed to
t
Spheris offshores - they are not allowed to advertise on this site - sm
I hope that helps in your decision making.
Read the post again, it says Transcend is taking new clients. SPHERIS offshores therefore they are

Transcend does not offshore and they are sponsors of MTStars.

Kinship care versus foster care/adoption
Having been placed in a position where I now have custody of my 3 YO granddaughter and going through the legal system, I sought an online network of relative caregivers for children. I would encourage you, especially since you are in Georgia, that if you take any children into foster care with the idea of adopting them, there is federal law that requires the state to take certain actions in a specific time frame. When a child is removed from it's bio parent(s), the state is required to investigate any possible relatives who can take the child before foster care is considered, but even before that, reunification with the parents is the priority. Once a child enters the system and is in the system for 15 out of any 22 months, the state is required to find permanent placement for the child.

The problem with this is that there are case workers who may favor a foster family and do not seek out relative care. I have a good friend in Georgia who had to fight all the way to the state level to get custody of her grandson after the child was placed from the hospital into a foster care home with the promise that the foster parents would be allowed to adopt. She has now adopted her grandson, but it was a long, hard battle to get the state to admit their own interests were placed above those of the child and/or family.

If you get a child placed through the state, please make certain there is not a relative who wants that child before you get your hopes up. The courts are now favoring return of children to relatives even after a child has spent years with a foster family who hoped to adopt them.

States get bonus federal funds by complying with the time lines and being able to close the case, so some states place children in foster care because it is easier than trying to locate relatives.

Didn't mean to go off on a tangent, but I can't imagine my sweet bella going to someone outside her family.
If it was a clinic, it might have been urgent care, but it was NOT acute care. sm
Acute care refers to work in an acute care setting, a hospital, doing at least History and Physicals, Discharge Summaries, Consultations, Surgery notes, Emergency Department notes, and much more, including GI procedures, Cardiology procedures, Neurological procedures, Pulmonary Function Studies.  It goes on and on and it means and acute care hospital setting, not a clinic.

What Company is This? I have been hired by a company that is sending a foot pedal.. Don't want t

The company cutting cpl, the company stopping paying for headers

Good of the company? As IC, I am my own company. Not my problem if she has problems as long as I do
:P
Accepted a job with a new company, gave two weeks notice to my old company..

Old company, let me go before two weeks was up.  New company, said they were having trouble getting me set up and my equipment ready, but they would pay me while I waited.  It's been a month, still no check from new company even though I was told it was "in the mail."  I have no income and am at a loss.

I have a signed offer letter from the new company, contracts, etc.  I applied for unemployment, but old company is saying I quit and technically I am currently employed with the new company!  New company is not returning calls or answering email.

What should I do!?!?!?!

I started sending my resume out today, but the process of getting a new job will take at least two weeks and I need money now to catch up on what I'm behind!

You don't want to work for this company. Call your current company and
tell them that you have decided against the new position and tell them that you would like to stay. It is cheaper for them to let you stay than to train someone new. A company who could be so tacky as the one you just spoke of is one you do not want to work for. You can rescind your resignation. If you are a good MT, they will be glad you did.
With my company, ICs use their own emails, employees have company email.

....3 months later my old company rehired me; can you return to your 1st company?
nm
Local radiology company, not transcription company
who has only 5 transcriptionists and are not hiring at this moment. We all work at home and get great benefits, no insurance out of pocket and 22 days paid vacation in the first year, after that it goes up. I feel very fortunate to have found them, but again I chose them because they did not do production, so now that they are, I'm a little disappointed.
I dont know. I didnt care then and I dont care now.
Just me

I think it varies greatly from company to company...sm
I was hired five months ago by a national straight out of school at 8 cpl. I think it just depends on your knowledge level and ability, and of course, what the company is willing to pay.
i think it varies from company to company and/or location

VR company? Not when the MT company owns its own VR equipment. n/m.

I have my own company email with my new company.
I can't answer your questions in your original post, I can tell you that with my new company, I have my own company email account, and I much prefer it. My old company had us use our personal email accounts, and they listed everyone who received emails in the cc line. They really never maintained those lists, and I received emails from them for a full five months after I quit - that despite my repeatedly asking to be removed from lists. Because the list had been passed from one person to the next in the company, I kept having to block sender after sender. Finally I replied to all, for each and every email I had gotten over a month's time. Well, that pretty much ended it.
I like to keep work and personal separate as much as possible.
It can vary from company to company.
If a company is on one coast and you on the other it can affect shift time, meaning usually if you want to start work 9-10 instead of 11 you could for 3rd shift, etc.
Buy your own... company computers are for that company only!
x
some of what you want to know varies from company to company,
client to client. The services each have their own QA grading system and you will get a copy at hire that tells you everything they deduct, and for how many points. This usually also includes formatting, such as wrong dates, right exam/wrong patient, etc.

You will need to know your punctuation and grammar first and foremost and use it properly, this is what you do. THEN if the client requests garbage in/garbage out (usually because they don't trust leaving anything up to us), you give it to them even though it hurts -- and should not be marked off QA for it.

Where do you study? Colleges with the 2 yr transcription course in my state make you take a year (or 2) of English grammar. No offense, but it's pretty much a 5th/6th grade review (is vs are, doctors' vs doctor's).

blanks will be limited, usually to 2, before you cannot send the report to client.

Wrong shortcuts - pay attendion to detail.
Varies from company to company
My first company I chose specifically because I knew they had a mentoring program and you had 12 weeks of "mentoring" to get up to speed. The training was very thorough. The first week was all training classes. There were very limited samples (1-2 per doc if at all). I worked there 6 months and never made their production quota, but they didn't care. When I asked my account manager about it, she said they knew the account was very difficult 95+% ESLs) and she wasn't worried about my production, that I was doing well.

I have also worked with companies that just did a training over the phone (usually about an hour) just to learn the platform. Then they did full QA for a day or two and then I was on my own. For both of these companies, I could review all the past reports of the doctors on the platform. That was really nice. I didn't have production requirements with these positions, just a daily schedule that I had to stick to. They just wanted to know when I would be working.

My recent company gave me a 10-minute training over the phone and gave me a couple of samples of a couple of the harder docs. I then had to submit 3 reports to the account manager to review, and then I was off on my own and was required to meet production immediately.

So it all depends. Each company is different. Good luck on the new job!
Try the company board with name of company.

I said he looks like he could take care of me.

i mean that in the sense that i am 5'2" and the REAL MEN I am attracted to are tall and strong and could do things i cannot do.  it does not mean i NEED someone to take care of me either.  it is just nice to have a natural manly MAN around the house who could when push comes to shove take care of things.

i don't want to hear women's libbers direct me in why i should not need to feel protected as i could do things for myself.  of course i can, or if i can't i hire a MAN to do it for me.  and the men I hire to do work like painting and electrical work are not effeminate girlie men with hair product and designer jeans.

get off the political soapbox.

Do you think they really care???
They don't give a rip about their employees-- it's all about the TAT and looking good, and making the big bucks from the clients. When they are out of TAT, they in not within their contract and they lose money. That's why they want to hire so many people. If there is no work, it's OUR problem, not theirs.
I don't think they care too much about...
subscriptions. I just started getting mine free one day and they have just kept coming.I think it is basically an advertising tabloid for coders and HIM people with a slight amount for MT. Lord knows the articles are not worth reading.
I think you do not really care what anyone says, you think you know its the same, so go for it.
x
I am!!!! :) I don't care what YOU say!!
Get over yourself. LMAO
They don't care
Of course they don't care. But the point is that it hurts everybody in the long run. This might be the last generation of wealthy CEOs because there won't be any more $$ to suck out of this country for much longer. And our government is happy to let them do it because it shares in the spoils. GRRRR!
