Do the settings stay if you change your Word, close it, then open it again without going to your pla

That would tell you if the platform is making the changes to your Word and, if that's the case, talk to your platform tech support.

If you change MS Word settings to

I send my work FTP and wondering if I send it blue background/white type, will the MTSO get it that way or will it appear normally with the white bkg/black type?

Wrong. Just up Word, change to 150% and close.
Word will save that setting to your Normal template. Now, open a blank document and you will see that and subsequent documents will be at 150%. Problem solved.
Just open glo file in Word, highlight all, then change case and save back
to glo file. Use the Alt key trick to highlight just the column of words, then Shift + F3 to toggle through the change case commands. First save your glossary under a different name so you also keep the original.
I usually stay close to normal or a
little above. If it is too fast, there is a great tendency to skip dictation because you don't hear it.
You would have to change the margin settings.
Under Styles, find the List Number and change the hanging indent setting. This will then apply to all documents based on that template.

Hey, you can stay and change until
this time in 2020, no sweat off my brow. If you have worked on a system say longer than 5 months and it is still mostly garbled words, punctuation and the like, then probably will stay that same way. If the above is true, then what I am saying is either get another job straight or suck it up and stay at same job, will not change if has not changed in 5 months. Why don’t you find a job straight typing?

percentage to whatever you want. Then you have to do something in the document area -- such as pressing the spacebar and backspace -- so Word thinks you actually made a change to the template and answer yes to the message when you close it out. Every new document will open with your new zoom level.
Info/help on open Word 2007 docx with Word 2003.

I have a friend who sent me a document with .docx extension, presumably Word 2007. I can open it in Word 2003; however, all I see are musical notes and highlighting, no text (this is a document with words and highlighting only, no pictures, music notes, etc.). I tried to open this with Notepad and only see the usual gibberish.


I know I opened another 2007 Word doc before and I remember seeing the converter load at that time but that was probably a year ago. Is there something that has changed that I'm not aware of?

you need to change your properties of those file types to open with ES and not media player. sm
go to your folders by start, explore. find where you saved those files to. once you find a file, right click on it and click on properties. under the general tab, look down 3 lines to where it says open with and i bet it says media player. click change, find the express scribe program. make sure you check that box under there that says always use this program to open this type of file. then you can either right click again, click open with, select express scribe and it will automatically load in ES or you can hit the load button on ES, find where the file is saved, select and it loads it. if this doesn't work, email me.
MS Word grammar settings?

I would like to set up my MS Word to catch as many grammar errors as possible.  Should I just check every box?

Have you tried to close and restart Word?
This may help. Also, check View, Toolbars and see if there are check marks beside like-named toolbars. If not, try the Customize menu at the bottom of that popup menu to see if there is something duplicated there.
Go into settings and emualte your WP to work as WORD with (sm)
the different settings and options.
In Word, I think you have to turn it off under one of the settings in View. nm

This isn't a Word issue. Check the settings in ...
your download manager. You should be able to specify the language there. If you can't find anything, let us know which download manager you are using.
I have had this happen - when you close word you should get a message (sm)
to the effect of would you like to save the Normal template - click OK.  When you start again you will probable get a message asking if you want to open the new Normal - again click yes.  Hope this makes sense!
You don't need to close Word after checking the auto numbering option. It works right away. nm

Word vs. Open Office
I have an even better idea than spending money on Word. I'm doing this myself. Log on to: www.openoffice.org and read about it, then download it and start using it. I love it! It's absolutely free. No risk of marketers getting your email address and bombarding you with junk mail. I learned about it through our I.T. Dept. It works exactly like Word! You can even use the spreadsheet and other features, but all I really use is the word processing part. Check it out and let everybody know what you think. I'm very happy I learned about it. :)
You do not say which version of Word you are using but if you open--sm
File, Print, and in the box 'print what' click on the down arrow and choose key assignments. Sorry, I do not use templates much so maybe someone else can answer that, or go the 'help' and you may find the answer there. Hopes this helps
Open up a word document to use as a
template.  Do view header.  Go into th e header of your word document.  Go back to your scanned document, highlight the pic and right click to copy.  Then go back to your word document that you created and paste into the header.  Do the same if there is a footer.  Hope this helps.
Hot key to open AutoCorrect in Word? sm
Does anyone know the hot key to open up autocorrect in MS Word?  I tried searching word and couldn't find it and I tried googling and couldn't find it.  Any help would be wonderful,  TIA.

When you click on autotext to open it, it should be where you can type in a new entry. Type in the entry you want to delete, and when it is highlighted I think an option should show to delete. I hope this is right, but like I said, I don't have Word open and I may have missed a step. Hope this gets you started in the right direction anyway.

If you have Word Perfect, it is easy. Just open any document, default the font and margins and do a

You can do a comparrison on gross lines versus 65 character line count by opening any document you have and counting lines both ways. 


I have almost always been paid the gross line and still am right now.  No matter what the margins or font is, all documents are converted to 1 inch margins and 12 Courier font.  You do not count blank lines.  I make an average of 0.08 a gross line, which the way I am paid would average out to about 11-12 cents a 65 character line.

Is there a way to change the default setting in Word - sm

for line numbering?  It keeps indenting 1-2-3,etc. to the first tab and I need the numbers along the left margin.  I went to <format>, <bullets and numbering>, <customize>, and changed the number position and alignment, and it lines everything up on the left margin. 


However, if I have another numbered section in the report, it goes back to the default setting, indenting to the first tab. 


Is there a way to change the default, or do I have to go through these steps for each numbered list?

Word counts the blank lines between paragraphs unless you change
your paragraph style to double space when you hit enter. You need to change the "after" setting in the spacing section of the paragraph dialog box to the point size of the font you are using and click the Default button. You'll probably want to do this in a separate template unless you want this setting for all new documents.
You can't just open the attachment. You need to save it to a file and then open SM

It is just not enough for the work. Speech is great on the wrists but you are not just reading what is typed, you are making a lot of changes. I have a hard time doubling a lot of days with all the changes I have to make. Just my opinion.

Change provider vs change to business plan

In your place, I would seriously consider changing providers if there were others available in your area, but I'd ask around about their service quality first.  It may not be any better.  If there are no other providers, then consider changing your service package to a business account rather than residential.  They're usually more expensive, but they also tend to get faster service if there's a problem.


Last summer, I had no electricity for 3 days due to severe storms, but there were some 600,000 in the same boat with me.  We just had to wait it out.  It's a downside of working at home.

Click Playback tab. For Rewind, I have set mine to 500 and Speed at 150.

I haven't used Express Scribe since school, but have you changed the settings?  I had to change it to change the settings for what food petal I was using.  The one I chose was V-something (VEC?  VRC?) 3-pedal, I can't remember. 
It may have to do with your settings sm
under File, preferences. Make sure you don't have verify target window checked. Also, may be the pause....after so many keytstrokes. Play around with that one. Every body is different but what works for me is pause 5 msec after 1000 keystrokes.

Also, try waiting for the expansion to appear before you type the word after it.

And below, make sure you have simulate Keystrokes checked.

On Exp Scribe, click on settings,file type, and if you don't what type of file, just check them all. Then give it a try and see what happens.
