Do not close credit card accts with 0 balance

I get offered and have used no interest credit cards for years. They are usually no interest for 1-1/2 years. When it is time for them to start charging interest, I roll them over into another no interest card. I have never closed an acct, just cut up the cards and forget about them. My FICO score is excellent, as is my credit. I get offers for no interest cards at least once a week so it obviously hasn't hurt me.

No credit card is a good credit card.
Just kidding. I'd suggest not using credit cards to pay debts. It'll only dig you in deeper. Look into a signature loan or putting a lien against a vehicle or house. Lower interest rate, pay off sooner.
Debit card. They've got the credit card logo on them, so they
can be used anywhere a credit card can be used.
Credit accts pulled
This is not just happening with transcription- it is across the board. Just heard a consumer advocate here in town speaking about that yesterday, not on our end but just general public. The thought of employers is that if you cannot be responsible in your financial life, that your job will be the same. This advocatet was against it. Transcriptionists are not being picked out as a single group, lots more people at same place.
You can't go wrong with Suze and take her advise, cut up cards but do NOT close accts. Just don

Credit card? I'm not sure either.

How do you rent a car without credit card?
I only use my debit card now. However, how do you rent a rental car without a credit card?
Credit Card Consulidation
These offers for credit consolidation sound good until you read the fine print. Basically, you are taking out a loan for the amount of your debt. If you miss a payment or even are one day late, you can end up with huge, huge interest charges added to your bill. I thik a lot of people go bankrupt falling for this scam.
get a credit card just for your IC expenses
it will keep all your expenses in one place and you won't need to keep receipts, just the credit card statements. Other than that, track mileage, though to be frank most people will just claim an average mileage and then create a mileage journal if audited. Also if you will take the home office deduction, you can claim percentage of heating, etc. but easy enough to do that. Might be worth your while to consult with a CPA if you take the IC job, and then the first year that you do your taxes. He can explain everything you need and then you can take it from there. Just one or two more forms to fill out, nothing earth-shattering.
A credit card separates
personal purchases from business purchases and simplifies bookkeeping. No need to keep multiple receipts, just credit card bills. You need to HOLD money in 2006 to pay tax bill FOR 2006 when due in April 2007. At that time, the IRS will send you a notice that your underpayment is too great and they would like you to file quarterly. Then, as said, you only have to pay 100% of what you paid for 2006, divided into 4 quarterly payments, across 2007 in order not to get a fine, even if you make lots more or lots less. Come April 15, you settle up the difference again.
Oh, not this discussion again. I haven't had a credit card
account in over 10 years now, and I do just fine. That includes reserving hotel rooms and rental cars, buying plane tickets. I live on a cash basis within my means. Nobody needs a credit card.
In addition to your credit card receipt you should
get a printout of your payment and if they don't offer it, ask for it. Be sure to check right away that they are showing you paid and if you have a receipt your payment was put in the system, which should eliminate this issue in the future.
Billing an insurance company will give the insurance company a good laugh and will probably create further problems.
New credit card interest rates (sm)
Wondering if those of us on this board have noticed that credit card companies will be increasing their interest rates along with the minimum payment due soon. How will this affect some people who can barely make the minimum payments now. Any insight greatly appreciated.

is it safe to apply for a credit card
over the internet? I hesitate to give out social security number and personal things on the net. Is it okay or not? Thanks
Credit card/income question. sm
I got an offer from Capital One for a personal credit card. Credit not great, but I figured they checked it before sending offer since I have a business card and they check with CRA every month.
Anyway, they declined it. They said I didn't make too much. Said they would not put denial on credit report. Want to find out how do they know how much or little I made since that information is not reported. Do they go by FICO score? Just wondering if anyone else had this problem.
Had this problem before, and worked for a credit card company too
I also had problems with travelocity, which ultimately was routed back to hotels.com, where I booked it for one date, they reserved it for a different date, and I ended up having to pay for both dates, PLUS a HUGE fee. I challenged them on it, but nothing ended up happening, other than me biting my tongue and paying it.
HOWEVER, since you were told that they would credit the amount, you need to talk to Hotels.com first. Make a concentrated effort to speak to supervisor after supervisor until they give you an apology and credit it. ALSO (and, if they refuse to give you the remaining credit), call your credit card company and explain the situation. They can do a few different things here. They can, and probably will remove the over-the-limit fee for you, if you explain the situation, as long as you don't have a long over-the-limit history. Don't let them tell you that they can't remove it, just keep going up the chain of command until someone does. All CSRs in that situation are able to remove the charge, and if they don't, ask for their manager (they will just put you through to a phone queue where the people have higher capacity to remove stuff like that). The second thing that they can, and will do, is, if hotels.com won't do it, you can dispute the charge, explain what happened, and it will be removed while they research it. Most of the time, they remove it and you never hear about it again, other than to tell you that it's been taken care of. If they decide it was a valid charge, which they won't, they will add it back to your credit card balance after getting hotels.com to prove that they provided the necessary service.
Make sure you contact your credit card company, even if hotels.com refunds your money, at least to get the over-the-limit fee waived. I would still dispute the charge, and that way, it is covered if they say they are going to refund it and don't. If you dispute it, and they end up refunding your money, just alert the credit card company, and it will be a wash. Good luck!
call credit card people immediately
and dispute charge (the back of your bill should give you the procedure on this) WRITE down everything you have done for the record. Yes, you absolutely must contact someone who knows something at hotel.com and be sure you contact the Atty General of your state and the state where hotel.com is headquartered, not to mention the BBB. Hotel.com has just got a load of bad publicity - don't forget to point that out to them. They also need to reimburse you for any charges incurred.
Be sure to keep a paper trail...emails will work. Good luck to you.
could it have to do with the class action law suit, my credit card company did that once...
they sent me a check of some money they supposedly owed me because someone filed a class action suit regarding their not posting monies received the same day and therefore charging people late fees, etc. I got like $3.46 for something or other.
perhaps it was a class action suit that was filed, and then of course MQ would have to go back and pay any monies due to everyone regarding the line-count discrepency issue.
maybe I am way-off, but if it is on the QT, that could be why. once they pay you off, they are no longer liable, right?.
anyone else have any ideas?
Looking for best credit card, visa, mastercard or amercian express
need to consolidate some bills,
They hand your credit card #'s when processing orders - why not mail?
It is common knowledge inmates work by processing internet and catalog orders. They hand credit card numbers every day. How can you even trust to place an order anymore, not knowing who is actually processing your order? It is surprising what inmates are allowed to do. Some live better than us behind bars!
Call the credit card companies and ask them to lower your rate. sm
Tell them you are having trouble and you need a lower rate. I would try that first on your own. I have done it and went from 14.9% to 4.9% on my credit cards. I can now pay them more monthly than they ask for and I am on my way out of credit card debt.
Consolidation companies, some, charge a fee and it goes on your credit report as "write off or bad creditor". If you have no success with the cc companies yourself, than try a consumer company to help you.
Good luck to you!
I renew my subscription to Norton each year it is due by credit card through them on the internet.
If I change computers how do I get that back into the new computer as I dont have a disc or anything I just do it over the internet. I have the original disc that I purchase 2 years ago but have since upgraded over the internet as I said.
Indian call centre credit card 'scam' exposed
RE: Symantec (Antivirus) customers credit card information being sold.

I made a card with a nice close-up photo of hers printed oblong-shaped with a red background, a huge
blank space beside the photo for my message written in silver ink, and some pressed tiny flowers to decorate the edges, then I laminated. She was so proud to show it off to her friends. (You might want to use this idea next year, maing sure you press small flowers first, or you can think of other decors).
Charge what the credit card companies charge when they don't get paid on time!!!!

Has anyone used a credit counseling service to consolidate credit cards?
What was your experience? Was it worth it? Which ones are credible?
I used to send a card and gift card to my direct supervisor, but that's it. sm
She was the only one who knew me as more than an employee number, and the only one I had any respect for.
CREDIT, everyone is living on credit, and from what I see
with a rather, 'might as well, we have no future' kind of attitude.
our credit cards are maxed out, we are buying gas, food (which I swore I would never do, how stupid - all that interest for food, yuck!), paying bills, and we would not have survived without them. now they are maxed out, and we are not making one bit more than we were.
glad things must be going so well for you, but look around in your own neighborhood.
the gap is closing between rich and poor. like it is in somalia, for example.
call us doomsdayers, but I call it protecting our own interests.
why is it the only people who are supposed to care about themselves are the rich?
Yes, if I could have the right balance of
administrative support and the power to hire/fire employees who are worth keeping/letting go.
Yes, I would.
How to balance it all.
I've been doing MT for 7 looooong years now and have recently gone back to school (pre-med). I've had to find a new job, a child with ADD/depression who takes massive amounts of one on one time to get school work done, etc., and another little one. I'm struggling getting work done and my homework. I took a fairly light load (13 credits) but am just feeling overwhelmed. Any time saving tips would be greatly appreciated!
It's tough to balance it all.
I've got a very full life, too. DH puts in a lot of hours at his job, but he doesn't see that I put in just as many. When he takes a break at work, he gets to sit down somewhere and actually eat or drink a Starbucks coffee. I have to make my own coffee, drop a kid off, pick a kid up or swap out a load of laundry during my "breaks" just to keep up. He does put in long hours at his job, and he's too tired to help out with household chores. He doesn't have time to get his errands done during the day either because he's got a demanding job. The kids do help out around here, too, but they have really full schedules with school, sports, jobs and friends. We've got pets contributing to the mess. Even my relatives call during the day for help with stuff. Cooking, grocery shopping, errands, bills and finances all fall on me to do. It's a load of bunk. I told DH I wasn't going to do MT full-time any more because of everything else I do around here. Why should I make as much money (or more) than he does, work just as many hours, and do EVERYTHING else that is expected of me? I even got hired part-time at an MT job, but they're trying to creep the hours up on me again. Plus, I have a second part-time job that's pretty demanding and just not worth what they pay me. I've got people demanding of me from sunrise to sunset, and I'm sick of it all! I'd like to sit on my backside and watch a TV program or movie for a change. I'd like to be have time to pursue my hobbies.
You (we) gotta get mean! JUST SAY NO to all the people badgering you all the time. Don't answer the phone or the door. Use caller ID and put a "do not disturb" note on the door. Lock or close your office door if you have one. Stay focused. Set work goals for yourself. I type at least 30 minutes of dictation before taking a break to go swap out laundry and stretch, then I get back to it. Assess your life and see what you can cut back on or streamline. Make a list of daily chores that take less than 5 minutes to do, and do those throughout the day. Delegate, ask for help.
How do you balance time
This especially causes problems for me working at home. I help take care of grandchildren and help my children also, hubby, pets, housework, cooking, errands, etc. I can't seem to balance that with my work. It cuts my production with the constant interruptions.
There is a balance though, people who are too social
People who tend to spend a lot of time alone seem to be a little sad. Just mix it up a little and find your balance. For me, if i'm around people too much, I feel absolutely drained, but if i'm totally isolated, I feel trapped and sad. So I socialize a couple times a week by taking classes, seeing family members, talking to neighbors, meeting up with a friend, and thats enough. Just not everyday, maybe not even every two days!
Balance Ball chair. Has anyone tried?
I found this in a catalogue: http://www.gaiam.com/retail/product/95-1004
I have a balance ball, and now and then I sit on it at my desk. It really does feel great, but the problem is keeping it steady. It's large and I have a hard time keeping myself at a comfy distance from the keyboard. I was thinking of getting this chair as a "supplemental" chair. I don't think it would work for 8 hours a day, but I think it would help alleviate some pressure and strain for periods during my work sessions.
And, this may be TMI - but this past summer I had a breast reduction. (Best thing I've ever done for myself!) The change in my body has definitely affected my posture and has alleviated pain in my back and shoulders. But I really need to strengthen my back and obliques more. I thought this chair might help with that.
Has anyone used this type of chair, or even used a balance ball at their desks? What do you think?
balance...sm (long message)
just wanted to encourage you. i suffer from burnout too (30+ years in this industry would burn out anyone!) =) ...but I have found ways to overcome it.
i would suggest that you NOT change companies. often when we're really stressed, making major changes is the LAST thing we should do.
for me, i find if i lower my MT expectations and quit being as perfectionistic as i want to be, i decrease the stress load. if you have the ESL from h*ll leave the allowed amounts of blanks or let QA deal with them and move on! you have nothing to prove to these difficult dictators...i try not to take it personally that they don't give a rip that they make our job nearly impossible....
i also need to keep my work life and home/personal/creative/school/community/family roles in balance. i work 2 jobs (1 MT, 1 not, go to school--online, and am a single mom raising 2 kids--older now) IT CAN BE DONE! And burnout can be BEAT!
if you need some moral support let me know--i'll give you my email addy.
ALSO, as far as the CTS, for YEARS I've had to wear typing gloves...best ones I've found are "MouseMitts" http://www.mousemitt.com/wrist.html
i have no affiliation with them...just passing on a good product that's saved me from having to have surgery...
hang in there...there is a creative solution to your burnout...
now, back to MT work for me!!!
=)
The OP was asking how other MTs balance homelife and work....
she didn't ask to be judged on whether or not she had experience working outside the home, et cetera...if you don't have anything productive to say to her than why bothering posting a response...obviously it sounds like she has a lot going on in her life and just needs some positive encouragement not judgement by others who feel they are more "grounded"....
Any advice on finding balance... sm
with working as an MT, the ebb and flow of the business of IC working from a pool, being a mother of a 10 year-old and a wife. How do you find the time for a well balanced family and work life? Finding time to be with your growing children, teaching them values, finding time for your relationship with spouse so that all of your family are happy, working as and MT at home. I find I work way too long although I am still in the learning phase of my company just starting full time. I find my daughter is growing up and I barely have time for her or for my husband. I want to provide a happy home and I want my daughter to learn values. She is having trouble at school and at home with her attitude.
Due to finanancial difficulties we had to move in with my mother-in-law and father-in-law and it really is not the best situation but could not be helped. I am slow as an MT. I just have a hard time finding a good balance for my family and working. I wondered how some of you out there do it and are happy with your work life and family life raising children and finding time for a well-balanced relationship with your spouse. My huband is trying to find a job now working as a cook in a hospital. He just has to wait for the hiring manager to contact him.
I appreciate any advice.
Has anyone disconnected the internal sound card and replace with another sound card?
I am having problems with my sound on one of my computers. Several different ExText program have been on it so I don't think it is the program and the sound is just now as clear as on my other computer. Has anyone switched (disconnected the internal sound care and replaced) to a new sound card? Did it make a difference.
Everyone on this board is so knowledgeable, I really appreciate you. You have helped me many times.
Having a couple zero-balance accounts open is okay . . .
but the available credit DOES count just the same as having that same amount charged. Lenders want to see open, good-rated accounts . . . just not so many that you have the potential for LA arge debt-to-income ratio. Keeping 2-3 is good. More than that isn't. Hth.
They are trying desperately to balance their runaway budget
Have you heard about the new naturalization process aimed at 11 million illegals in the country... along with some hoops to jump through (Learning English - ???) etc., they must pay 2000 dollars.
Do the math 11 million x 2000
its not a lot but its something
I applaude all who are able to balance all their jobs; I doubt I could even do 2I!! nm
xx
How do you find a balance in this type of work...
with family, friends, hobbies, etc and still have time to type! Is it possible, if so, how?
I read a book once that burnout was caused by being out of balance. sm
Working too much and not giving time to other parts of your life is the culprit in the job arena. Variety is the spice of life, so focusing on balancing your job, your need for a good cash flow, with times to enjoy yourself is essential.
It takes work, and fortunately I have an S/O that demands that I take time for us to have fun and for "me" to have fun as an individual.
Well, that is incorrect information. You should leave your 0 balance accounts open sm
that shows that you are responsible and not over your head in debt. When you have a credit line of 15,000 and your balance is 0, that is a great asset. I am a mortgage loan officer myself, and the mortgage brokers want to see open accounts with 0 balances. That also helps you debt to income ratio, which in turn increases your credit score!
Most banks have auto numbers to call to find out balance. SM
You could call bank tomorrow morning. Maybe put some charges on credit card, but anyway call them.
As stated, it is taken out immediately. When I purchase stuff and use it, but forget to put it in checkbook, recording will tell me as soon as I arrive home what was spent.
They are checking accounts with higher interest, minimum balance required, I believe.

Flooding accts-MQ
I agree totally with what you said, I have an account that is going nuts because of the new MT's that the Amherst office threw in there and now the hospital is doing a lot of their own work but the only people that get hurt by this are the experience MT's that have had the misfortune of being transfered to Amherst. But yet the hiring continues and we are still running out of work. Hopefully there are not too many more offices that they will be closing, we do not need any more MT's sent to Amherst. I hope the statement about the Ohio office closing is not true and if it is, that they are not being transferred to Amherst, not to be mean, but we do not have enough work as it is and any of the accounts that are at the Foxboro office will be going up on DQS soon, which will add accounts but will also add more MT's. Even the accounts that are in Foxboro that are on MTs have all been flooded and those MT's are in the same situation, no work. I just don't understand why these 2 offices are run like they are--I know other MT's from other offices that always have work andcan make their lines every pay period and they are only in one account. Again and again as it has been stated here, why are all the offices not run the same???
