Do all companies now use a full template for each work type? (sm)

What I mean by this is: Is it becoming the norm for the company to fill in every single heading that might possibly be dictated by the physician and use that as the template for the report? I have typed for two different companies that do this and I find it very, very cumbersome. In one company I was told to modify each heading and delete those not used. In the other company we were to leave the templates as is and just fill in the appropriate information where it is supposed to go. This can be extremely time consuming as the docs don't always dictate in the same order as the company-supplied headings. Nor do they dictate the same way in all cases. As an example - Company supplies heading - family member history. Doctor dictates - family history. In one company we take out the word medical. I feel this eats up line counts because we spend more time jumping up and down looking for these headings and then modifying them when it would just be quicker to type them. I'm wondering if this is just another way to cut down on the MT's pay because most of us have all these headers as expansions anyway. Any thoughts?

how many lines per day and per hour do most companies expect/want you to type for full time? thanks

Template line counts not paid in full
Often in an office, there are letter templates and procedure templates for operative notes. If a doctor dictates a letter, we retrieve the letter template which has his signature line and letterhead of the medical office, and we add the paragraphs that he dictates. If the doctor dictates a minor procedure, we select the operative note and we change that around - OFTEN we change the operative note around in a BIG WAY- to reflect what he dictates.
Of course, the letterhead should be deducted from our line count, as we did not type it, and it shows up as included in Microsoft Word count. But the operative notes are different - we often DELETE all of the stuff and type all new lines, and the head office should not deduct that.
Beware - and double check exactly what your company is deducting as templates from your word count. I discovered that I was getting paid for only ONE LINE or even a NEGATIVE LINE COUNT in a two paragraph operative note (this happened repeatedly) because the head company was deducting a "template" that appeared that I often deleted and typed over. Make sure your pay is correct for different types of dictation.
There are two many fingers in the pies in these companies, and they change our pay calculation, sometimes in error. Make sure you know whether your company is deducting for templates, and how much they are deducting, etc. Keep an eye on your pay calculations.
Template question. Somehow this morning I saved the date and patient name into my template? I have t
deleting the date and patient name and resaving as a template but everytime I reopen the template the date and patient name are still there. Anyone know how to delete them so that they come up blanks again???? Thanks.
Has anyone breast fed while trying to work at home, can you do this and still work full time?
It seems like the more literature I read on the subject, the longer it seems to take, especially in the beginning when you are breast feeding every two hours, or does it really just depend on the baby?
USA Type, smaller companies...sm
the larger nationals suck big time, they ALL stink IMHO. I have NOT found one good national since YOG. Transhealth is okay, but it takes forever to get started with them, AND...lots of awful ESLs, but the sound quality was good, but I didn't stay. too many different docs, I am too old and tired for that and working on complicated platforms, Give me an MTSO who uses plain old word or WP and wav files.
Go to mtjobs.com, Companies, and then in the state box type Georgia and see what comes up. Do a net

I work 2 full time jobs..
I work from 8:00 - 4:30 then get home and start working about 6 pm. until 12-1 a.m. It's tough to do, but can be done if you are determined enough. I've been doing for almost one year now. The bad thing is I work salary during day hours, and paid cpl at night, so nothing is overtime pay for me. Would be easier to have one job with overtime allowed. We girls just do what we gotta do, don't we?
Those people obviously do not work full time or want to
make a good living. I would work at McDonald's before I would let someone take my house. If someone is not making enough money in this field, it is them, not the industry. Tired of everyone tip-toeing around this issue. The money is there but you need to buckle down and do the work. Stop whining and start working.
I work as an IC, get .105 with full -time schedule. NM

Question. How many MTs sit and wait for work when companies overhire and there is not enough work
on your shift. Is this what these companies want for people to sit around and wait on work. As an IC, this probably doesnt amount to even close to minimum wage. What do you do in these cases of no work and sitting waiting for practically nothing to come in when obviously lots of others are doing the same thing. It actually almost seems as though you need to have 2 jobs to survive in this business really. I cant image how you can get the lines in they require. Crazy business this is.
I work a full time and a part time, but not sure about 2 full-time...
My hubbie is disabled and I am the only one in my family working also, so I fully understand. You will not have a day off at all working 2 full-time as that is going to be the only way you will get in all your hours. I work one job in the mornings from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. and the other from 5 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. and do have off one day a week, but if I had to get in the extra 15 hours to make the other job full-time I am not sure how I would do that other than lose my only day off. Also, make sure you have your account specifics in front of you at all times because you will get yourself confused as to who is what and having notes will help in that area. Good luck to you, as it is possible, but forget about your house being clean, having any social life, etc. Feel free to email me personally if you just need someone to talk to, as I have been where you are and still am.
How does it work full-time to have rotating weekends
My brain is fried with all this job hunting and I can't think. All MTSOs want weekend commitments now. If I offer to do rotate every other weekend for Saturday and Sunday, what does my schedule look like so that I still have two days together off, and without working 7 straight days (hope this makes sense...I'm so tired :(.
You can't take care of an infant all day and work full time.

Full audio relisten before sending in work
The hospital recently hired a new supervisor for the transcription department. The MTs were just informed that there are quality issues. They have requested that the MTs perform a full audio relisten to ALL reports before sending them in. Not a read over or proofreading on the fly, but a 100% relisten! I don't mind doing this on shorter reports but some reports are 10 minutes plus. This is going to be incredibly time consuming. I feel like speaking my mind, but I like the company I work with and Christmas is coming and this is not the time for me to be out of a job. Does anyone have any advice on how to handle this situation? Thanks!
can you not work 6 hours a day and still qualify for full time? sm
i know most places it is usually 30 or 32 hours constitute full time. if it is 30 hours, then you could do 6 hour days 5 days a week and get in 30. is there a possibility you could do a split shift and that would allow your feet and you rest time between shifts? guess no possibility of working from home, LOL. i definitely understand your frustrations. sometimes the good employees get the short end of the stick cuz they need you the most.
Can a national require full time MTs to work overtime?

I am one who will not work for those companies SM
If they outsource to offshore, I will not work for them.
If they treat me like dirt, I get out.
I see ads all the time for "experienced MTs only apply." Then they turn around and offer you 6 or 7 cpl. How insulting is that? I won't work for them either.
There are a couple of good companies out there - but not too many. You need to be able to pick and choose in this business. IMO only desperate people work for desperate pay and put up with the crappy services and what they dish out. I kind of feel sorry for all the new MTs out there that have to put up with this crap just so they can get a foot in the door and try to get some experience so they can move on.
If more of us refused to work for those lousy companies, maybe they might reconsider their business practices. I doubt that offshore MTs are going to work for paltry wages for ever. They are now beginning to demand more money for their services. Let's see what happens with that.
any companies out there that never run out of work??
It is too much to ask for work to be available and not have overhiring???
Companies NOT to work for
Do not work for the following companies if you expect to make decent wages or if you even expect to get a paycheck without having to beg for one. Hum lets see.
Medquist, KJM Trans., SoftScript, Superior Global, Zylomed, Medvoice, A to Z trans., D&L Typing, MedWord, Spheris, California Trans., Unlimited, ... there are more but I just can not think of them right now. Mostly, you will not find anyone paying what they use to pay before "Offshore" began. So if you find someone who you are averaging at least $18/20 dollars plus an hour, KEEP IT.

I did actually work for 2 companies using DQS,
and I had two separate downloads, because I think the one company was using a slightly different version of DQS. I believe, but am not 100% sure, that any companies who purchase DQS from you-know-who have a slightly modified version from you-know-who....I had 2 icons on my desktop, for company #1 and company #2, and had no problems just using each one separately. Good luck!
Work for 1 or 2 companies?
I currently have 2 companies that I work for. One i have been with for a while and the other I just accepted not too long ago. The newest company I am not liking at all. They have the suckiest audio and platform and it takes me forever to get 1 report done. I know I have just started with them but I am already dreading work with them every day. The new company does pay 2 cents more per line for transcription and editing, but I can get a whole lot more work done with my first company because I can hear their dictations great and I also look forward to working for the first company every day. I am thinking of quitting the newest company. My first company has tons of work but I am afraid if I quit the newest company and go full-time with my first company that their workload will get low and then I will have nothing to fall back on. What would you guys do? Do any of you work for just one company and feel very secure about it?
Do you all work for companies?
Do those of you working split shifts work for a MTSO or are you ICs?
If you work for a company, is the split shift a common thing or did you have to ask for special consideration?
I am interesting in trying this as well because I get so worn out doing a full shift.
I don't know where all that type work is..
and its not that I don't know medical transcription, I've been doing this for 30 years and I am certified.. so that's not the problem.. it's the bad platforms and the "clerical" duties like looking up these doctors! I hear your frustration and mine too! I KNOW there is good stuff out there, but why can't I get it??
every work type has a different TAT by
H&P 24 hours
Consults 24 hours
Ops 24 hours
DS 48 hours
from the time of the event occurred. 24 hours from time of admit. 24 hours from time of consult. etc. (unless JC has changed those guides) Some hospitals want a quicker TAT by the MTSO for patient care or billing reasons.
Many preop H&Ps are needed stat because the anesthesiologist will not administer anesthesia until they review it.
Does not matter whether or not it is placed in the chart, as long as the document itself - whether on paper or in EMR - is completed by the time guide. It has been this way by Joint Commission standards for at least 15 years (that I know of). JC will put a random number of charts and look at the date/time stamp on the document to determine compliance. They have no way to gauge whether or not the document was in the chart as soon as it was transcribed or a week later.
This is where many hospitals lose points, but in the scheme of things, these points are minor.
I was once asked my the MR director of the hospital where I worked to go back in time and change dictated/transcribed dates and print new documents to place in the chart on the eve of an audit. I showed her how to do a global replace for dates in WP 5.1, reminded her she would need to get signatures on them before the next morning, then clocked out and went home. Whether or not she did it, I never asked. I don't believe she did it after the reality of not getting signatures hit her. She hinted at my being fired for not doing it, but I was not going to alter legal documents. Nothing was ever said again about it.
So is this the type of work you do?
Beause that's very helpful to know if you're doing nonmedical, two-person audio recording transcription. I have nothing to compare this to since I've never looked into it before. If it turned out I could do the work and liked it, I could ask for more money, or apply at other companies that do this kind of work.
good companies to work for
Hi,
I am a recent M-TEC grad who is beginning the job search. Does anyone have any companies that they really like working for or have heard good things about? Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Jen
Good companies to work for.
I have found Spheris to be an excellent company to work for. They provide you with the equipment and with on-line paid classes to teach you their system. The supervisors and help personnel are terrific. You set your hours and can have as much work as you want without ever running out. They have terrific benefits and fun things to do and an on line info system that teaches you whatever you need to know about medical transcription. I have been self-employed, and have worked in a clinic for 15+ years and find Spheris to be the best of all. Good luck in your search!
Dee
Good companies to work for
I disagree with Spheris being a good place to work. As a newbie, you should stick with a smaller company. Somewhere where you will get individual attention and not be lost in the shuffle of a huge company. If you are placed on the right team, you might be okay. If you are placed on one of the teams with incompetent managers or supervisors, you are destined for doom. Just my personal opinion.
Companies with psych work?
Hi there!
Does anyone know any companies out there that are hiring specifically for Psych/Behavioral Medicine (clinic or acute)? I have about 3 years of MT experience, but my college coursework is all (besides MT school) in Psych, and this is the field I want to gain as much experience as possible in. I know it's hard to find, because people tend to gravitate toward psych accounts, but I just thought I'd ask. I've done lots of it on a random basis as a secondary or alternate account at various places, but I'm looking for a primary account in that field.
I have worked for a few of the major nationals (MedQuist, MedWare, and Spheris) and I'm happy at Spheris, but having trouble finding any available Psych accounts, so I'm considering leaving, if I have the opportunity elsewhere. Just thought some of you may know where to check. Thanks!
I work for 2 companies and make
0.0825 cents per 65 character line with spaces at one and 0.10 cents per 65 character line with spaces at the other so it just goes to show it varies.

Many companies pay 10 cpl or better. You just need to do the leg work and search.
You will find they do exist.
MDI Maryland pays 10 cpl as SE, Precyse offered me 10.5 cpl as employee, JLG pays 10 cpl if not higher, Get Back Jack Productions is 10 cpl and 11 cpl on the weekends, Even Transcend pays 10 cpl if you negotiate for it.
