After reading the post from MT, I just had to VENT too. I understand how you feel completely. I have been a dedicated Transcriptionist for over 20+ years. I took the time for formal training and am certified, but find that now I am being pushed out in to the cold because the companies have become greedy and no longer wish to pay us an hourly wage for this highly skilled profession. I have noticed the trend of hiring is focused on the stay-at-home mom or part-timers who are trying to supplement their incomes. DO NOT GET ME WRONG, I UNDERSTAND THEIR NEED TO WORK TOO. However, I as many other MT's, do not have that choice and have to have a substantial income to pay mortgage, the expense of working at-home, etc. I am afraid that the days of the career transcriptionist are becoming numbered.
I still work in transcription because I have to. I work 40+ hours for an insulting 0.8-0.9 cpl and due to "system problems", companies conveniently "running out of work" near the end of pay periods, the increasing number of ESL dictators, I find that I am finding it difficult to afford to work as a transcriptionist. When you work at-home, you have the expenses of providing for an office, computer, paper, phone lines, etc., etc. Now the local hospitals are even joining in with paying production rates or outsourcing to India. I spent several years as an Editor also and found myself having to retranscribe the work sent overseas. The company had to lose money paying twice for the same reports.
As you, I just felt the need to "vent". I was offered a position a couple of hours ago by a company that wanted everything, but felt affronted because I had inquired as to downtime, training, etc. I COULD JUST SCREAM!!!!!
Thank you all for listening.

I also think there are disgruntled MTs who couldn't cut it,
or didn't live up to their end of the bargain. It goes both ways.
Sorry disgruntled Chris fan.
You will get over it.
Alot of BS probably from disgruntled ex
Perhaps you did not read all the posts, yes I did get alot of negative comments and thank you, but I don't need you to tell me to let it rest. This is a free county, I have freedom of speech and will let it rest when I feel its proper or are you the board medidator? Go ahead its your serve, what witty comment are you going to come back with now, tell me to get a life? That seems to be one of the most popular comebacks.
A site started by disgruntled democrats
Nope. Not at all. I'd put them on the level of with moveon.org. Actually, it doesn't mean that much to me. My guy won so I'm really just having fun seeing a liberal getting all fired up.
Back to work now.
Sorry you are so disgruntled but many of us, myself included, are still making money...
there have been changes but I am still making great money so I have no complaints...good luck to you though
