If I wake up in the middle of the night and can't sleep, I work a few hours sm
then I go back to sleep and when I wake up do more hours. A "regular day" no way.
Crazy dream I had last night...
I dreamt that a company I used to work for had an ad for a Transcriptionist to do just ESLs, offering $55-$90 an hour depending on their difficulty. Ha-Ha!! I was still hesitant as to whether to apply or not, because I remembered some of their ESLs and was not sure if that is really how I wanted to spend my time. Oh well, maybe at that rate I could stand it for 2-3 hours. LOL!
Yep, I am rich, that's why I sitting here typing in the middle of the night!
Of course when I'm done, I'm gonna hop in the limo and have Jeeves take me to NYC to breakfast and get my hair and nails done. Wanna go? There's room in the back. I mean, it is a limo!
To finish...no one obviously feels like typing up, so the night people get the pool garbage. Grrrr.

Describe your dream job in one sentence. (anything goes; it's a dream job.)
My dream job would be straight transcribing half oncology and half psychiatry on a flexible schedule Monday through Friday as a statutory employee for a reputable company with decent dictators at 11 cents per line (a fair living wage for 17 years' experience), first shift.
Exhausted from doing that many lines
x
Were you exhausted? How do you manage?
I'm finding it hard to do the things I wanted. I also work the spli shift thing, but im so tired. I dont know if im trying to work too much and i just need to go to PT or what. Also, I would like to be more instructional, work with maps, field trips to the museums and such. How did you do that?
(how does one know that the Subject line has been exhausted?
If you defer the report to someone else, you are just calling even more attention to the sensitivity of the situation. If you type it yourself, it seems to me, you are then in control of whether the info is disseminated or not. ????
Feeling so exhausted today sm
couldn't be that 9500 lines I have done since Tuesday, could it? I have to pick up and work later and/or tomorrow. I think I am fried.
What did you type this week?
mygawd!! it's my metabolism? I just thought I was exhausted...nm

I saw HOWIE last night on a late night episode of Blind Date. too funny.
I'm thinking if they are smart they'll boot Rachel. I think she's really smart and a good player. I don't think Howie is all that smart or able to be a winner. I think this could force Howie to hook up with James to go for the final 2.
Well if I'm gonna dream I'm gonna dream big! hehe
WOW! I'd tell my DH, but I'd have to go wake him up
Every day that I wake up...
and he's not here is ultimately a good day. I have decided this is all about prospective. I cried a bit last night, but couldn't define exactly why. I've been going about the house taking down reminders. My children now after what three days are only mentioning him in casual conversation. My 4-year-old says to me in private that he was mean and he is not coming back. I don't know how much of that she actually registers. I'm just noticing small things. I can type faster. I haven't had to yell. I smile at myself in the mirror. I'm remembering who I was intended to be. We're listening to music again. The TV was only on yesterday for about an hour total, not 14 hours. That alone is stunning. I am starting to believe that I can actually do this. I have my mom coming up this morning to help me look for a place to live. I have a self-imposed 30 days to find a place. My only significant problem is that he made a 1-year committment to the phone company/satellite provider. If anyone has a suggestion for how I can get out of that without paying an enormous fee, please offer. It is so cathardic speaking to you all. I'm already healing. Keep praying for me. Thank you, Jodi
She may want to go to the wake afterwards, if you have one.

Me too. Thank HIM before bed and when I wake up! nm

Does anyone ever wake up one day
Just not wanting to deal with the constant worry of feast or famine. Companies which treat the MT as a big zero if he/she does their job well, although when needed extra, the MT is made to feel guilty if they do not do 10,000 percent in spite of the fact they are previously treated like zero. Sometimes the paycheck although small, does not seem worth it compared to the quality or lack of quality of life.
No, I am not depressed. I think this MT has finally wished for some time off to go outside, see the clouds, smell the fresh air, and consider the life passing by. As well, this MT would like to remember what it was like to have the security of a job which paid halfway decently, actually a boss who showed just a tiny bit of appreciation once in a while for doing a difficult job well, and the days when a person did not flinch when looking at the computer wondering what the day would bring. Silence, more silence, or an even smaller paycheck.
I tell you, if I were to take 2 weeks off, nobody in my household would even notice the difference in budget, the pay has gotten so low from lack of work. Used to be a person could make a difference with this job. Wondering if it is time for a change.
Do you ever feel that way?
wake me up!!!
I am sitting here about to fall asleep -- not because there is no work, but just ready to fall asleep on my keyboard!! I keep telling myself- GIRL- WAKE UP!!! I know there are several families out there that have no work or their significant other is laid off, which mine is off for two weeks, so I have to be THANKFUL for my job and make myself wake my booty up-- oh, along with my fingers!! Hope you all had a wonderful X-Mas! Santa was good to our family and friends- hope he was to you all also! Now, I have to get back to work!!!!
Wake me when it's over
I can hardly stand getting up every day and looking for a job in this industry. Now GM wants to make its cars in China and then sell them back here. HELLO?! What in heavens name is going on?
I think if our grandparents and their grandparents were faced with what we are now, they never would have immigrated here. We are going backwards.
I am tired, getting older by the minute. Somebody wake me when it's over.
Wake up.
As long as there is a profit motive in health care there will be lots of people trying to get rich off the sick. It's amoral.
I have never heard of anybody in Canada or Europe seriously demanding an end to their single-payer health care system in favor of a for-profit system. They know better.
You appear to be full of right-wing propaganda.
Wake up people.....
Exactly how long does it take for Americans to realize the only benefit in outsourcing is the benefit the fellow in India (or elsewhere) receives when he/she snatches your job!!
Thanks for the wake up call
Guess I forgot to mention that I'm pretty naive, too. Maybe I should just go back to reading and stop "talking" unless I know exactly what I'm saying. I was pretty sure ESL was straightforward for English second language, and I absolutely did NOT mean anything else by it. I apologize if anyone took what I said any other way.
btw MissIndigo -- where is your little rural Georgia office? We could be neighbors!
WAKE UP, PEOPLE
Of course there are factions in our government that want to keep us ignorant and keep us suffering from chronic disease. For one, the pharmaceutical industry has a lot of clout in government, especially with regards to financially supporting medical schools, politicians, etc.
Thank about it. For instance, why do you think they keep telling diabetics that it's okay to keep eating a little sugar? Because diabetes is a big industry!! They need for the diabetics to keep taking SOME medication; what would the industry do if the diabetics no longer needed medication, glucometers, test strips, nutritional counseling, blood tests, etc., etc.??? THIS IS JUST ONE EXAMPLE...
I don't trust myself. I set the clock or I know I'd wake up 4 hrs later.

Don't tell me to wake up when you're the one who isn't seeing the big picture.
You don't even have a clue how much Canada buys from the U.S. I live right on the Canadian border. In fact, I even lived in Canada for several years. Canadians are far better for our economy than third world nations. They don't expect handouts and steal our work. They buy grain, beef, vegetables, commodities, health care, goods and services here. Canadians are good for our economy. Try taking a basic economics course before spouting off your invalid opinions.
And they can't "steal" our work anyways because their wages are the same as ours are.
4:30 a.m. and wake up before the sunrise. Weird. sm
I can't sleep in if I know I can, but wish I could when I can't. I set my alarm (which I never have to do) for 8:30 this morning and got up at 5:20. If I hadn't set it, I might have slept until 7:00, but I highly doubt it.
Funny thing is it never matters what time I go to bed, whether it's 8:00 p.m. or 1:00 a.m
Hubby was born around midnight and has worked the graveyard shift for nearly a decade, as he could never get out of bed in the morning for work. He goes to bed between 8:00 and 10:00 a.m. and sleeps until dinner.
Two sons, both born at night who would sleep until 4:00 p.m. if they could.
Two daughters, both born in the a.m. that "sleep in" when they can, but never past 9:00 a.m.
This is too weird. Now I'm thinking I should have been born around 9:30 a.m. Then I could sleep until 7:30.
I can, however, nap on demand. I say to myself, "Okay, time to sleep for an hour now" and I'm zonked out for an hour, never longer, no alarm clock. Weird.
Obviously these people don't have to wake up and go to work EVER

Wake up and smell the roses and not
alcohol breath - ewwww
well wake up and smell the coffee...
Ever since managed care came into being here, the doctors have been moaning and groaning...and less and less folks are actually entering the medical field today.....becauise nobody is earning the money they were 15-20 plus years ago.....There is a huge shortage of nurses also in this country - it's not profitable enough for anyone today...not like it used to be prior to managed care.....
I have been treated overseas and it IS better.....and I recently read an article that folks here, the elderly, are now relocating to India for long-term care at home....it's nearly free over there....if I ever find that article, I will repost here.....the couple the article was about are in their 80s and they get all their rxs, aides in the home (home health care), and treatment for a miniscule amount compared to here......the article showed pictures too.....all nice and clean and very efficient looking. Plus, an added benefit is they are just more respectful of the elderly overseas.....in general and everywhere.....whether it be Europe or Asia.....while here, all they seem to be interested in in this country is YOUTH - a youth-oriented society it has been for a couple of generations now.
You *think* we have the best......but it might not always be as it seems and think of *down the road* - while less folks are entering the field(s) here - you'll find there will be less and less *the best*.....
Someone is not telling the truth - wake up! N/M
Typing. This is NOT typing, it is transcribing. There is a BIG difference. sm
Transcription includes typing, but so much more.
I keep wishing it was a nightmare and I could wake up and everyone in that area was just living and

It's taco night! (again.....) We had taco pizza last night, southwestern chicken soup before th
Maybe I'll just have a salad.
I used to wake up in the morning and realize my pedal foot had been "transcribing" whatever
my dream had been about.

Thanks for the reply. Please e-mail me if you have time as I would definitely like to get suggestions. I have tested with several companies and they are waiting for reply but just want to be careful in making the best choice for me. I too am lucky enough not to have to have income now but would love part-time with a flexible schedule.
Thanks in advance,
gj
I actually had a dream
about being on this board!! I also transcribe in my dreams. I guess those are actually nightmares since everything goes wrong and I have zero lines at the end of the day.
your dream would be 5ƈ"..LOL...sm
C'mon, I'm the 5' poster but 5'2"? You'd be happy just to be 5'2"? I was 5'3/4" most of my life but not now, lost almost an inch....
striving for 5'2" - *that's very funny to me.....because people have always thought I'm taller than 5'...because of the *stomach in, chest out* way I carry myself....I feel tall inside *L*...but if I had my druthers, 5'2" isn't tall enough in my opinion, it's still very, very short, and I'd love to have been 5'6" or 5'7".....
Dream job.
If employee, a good line rate with paid vacation and holidays, retirement, disability insurance. Flexible hours as much as possible. User-friendly platform. Open communication with management staff and other employees. Occasional bonus/perk to show appreciation.
If IC, a line rate high enough to provide my own beenies. Flexible hours as long as within tournaround time. Backup on account for occasional time off. Enough work to provide a decent line count. User-friendly platform. Access to management when needed. Occasional bonus/perk to show appreciation.
my dream job would be
Yes those things you mentioned - good line rates, health insurance, good incentive program, paid time off - those things would be a dream for an IC like me.
I also believe if you do a good job it would be nice to hear it once in awhile, perhaps in the form of a Chrismas bonus ! I feel I am a hard worker and have over 10 years experience, struggle through ESLs and poor dictators and really don't get paid enough for my time. To NOT feel like a cog in a wheel would be wonderful.
Good luck to you with YOUR dreams !!
dream job
How about at-home for those of us that do Pathology?
Dream job
Please, when you open your company, can I come work for you? How lovely!
Dream job
My dream job would be working for a company that offers benefits, but health insurance where you can have coverage no matter what state you live in, paid time off, 401K after 3 months of employment, not a year. Also, a fair amount per line rate. Twenty-five years ago I made 7 cents a line and now the rates are not much higher than that. Management and QA who treat the employees with respect, appreciate employees for a good job done as well as being loyal to that company. I have seen too much greed by company owners in my years as an MT, by that I mean they take all the profits, live in big beautiful houses, while the MTs struggle from paycheck to paycheck. We all work hard for our money and we deserve to be treated with respect and the employer can be treated with respect in return by the MTs working their schedules, QA being 99% or above, etc. This is the only job I have had and I love being an MT but I do not like the greed I have seen over the years. But, not all companies are the same. Thanks for the survey and good luck with your business.
Dream job
Okay let me see if I get it from the answers below
.10 cpl minimum for transcriptionist, higher for specialities; 0.2 to 0.4 cpl for benefits; 0.2 to 0.4 for QA, 0.3 - 0.4 for owner; 0.2 minimum for investor and yes I know a lot of companies/hospitals that will pay 19 to 24 cpl for transcription services. Like you said, dream not realistic. Oh yea and then have enough work force on hand to do the work in a 24 hour TAT, less if there are QA problems and it goes there. Then not many ESL's --. Also balanced work force for enough on hand to do the job in your contracted time frame or you will be docked severely but not to many so everyone has their work they want and those on stand by that will do work when someone calls in sick or has a personal problems or do not want to work. Then there is the time that doctors take vacations and work flow is down and everyone is yelling at you. Like you said it is a dream job. It could be possible but it is a very hard business to run smoothly and profitable for everyone. I only have two I/C's and 6 accounts and I am ready to chuck it in and just do what I can do for myself as it is very hard to balance and keep everyone happy and the 20 to 25% you make off those accounts is very well earned. I do wish you success and it all sounds good but there is lot more there that does not meet the eye when you become an MTSO. I also had my dream of being larger and providing a very decent job to home based MT's but after a few years I saw the writing on the wall and kept it as 2 - 3 I/C's and that is very hard to balance all out. They are I/C's and have the right to work and not work. And if you pay any benefits, they do become employees and then you have more expenses with benefits, insurance, workman's comp, etc., etc. But hey you might be able to do it and I wish you the best. Give MQ a run for their money.

Dream Job
I would be willing, if I had choice of the account type I had to work, at 7.5 cpl, as an IC.
My dream job would be....
...to be able to work at home being paid $16.50 or more per hour, working Tuesdays thru Fridays, no weekends, no holidays, paid vacation, sick time, all English speaking doctors, clinic/doctor's office work only, and work being available all the time.
not a dream, but...
About 4 years ago, my nephew shot himself...for 2 weeks before his death, I was sick...so sick I couldn't work, eat, or sleep, but had no real symptoms. I just had this overwhelming feeling of dread, butterflies in my stomach, shaky legs and all. After his death, that feeling went away, replaced with another, but we won't go there...
That is my dream job, as well! lol
Maybe it just takes a transcriptionist's eye, but recently in the paper, we had a story on a doctor who did her residency at Cedar-Cyanide! :) I love the closed captioners, too....That's my next job, I think!! A few that I can remember seeing are "Vegas" nerve stimulator (when you want a good day gambling, I guess), the Soup Earp Bowl, and Since Gnatty Bengals. And they get paid big bucks for that!!
Not a dream....
That's what I make on this account is 14 cpl on 65-character line. I also have another account that pays me 11 cpl on a 60-character line. Maybe you need to look around if you're not doing so well.
Dream job
You might try Amphion out of WI. They actually prefer their people working day shift with no weekends. They have wonderful benefits and I think may pay per hour also. They are affiliated with University of Wisconsin Medical School I believe. Good Luck!
