Desktop calendar with reminder options....

Does anyone use this?  With going back to school and 3 kidss and tons of appointments, I amm finding that using the old calendar on the wall isn't too safe anymore.  Given the fact that I amm tied to my desk most of the time, I was wondering if anyone knows where I could get a free desktop calendar that will warn me when something is scheduled that day, etc.  I know there is probably a way to do this, but I have no idea.  Any info would be appreciated.  I see the free downloadable calendars, but I amm afraid of those.  Does windows or microsoft office come equipped with this?  Again, any info appreciated.  TIA

desktop calendar Cozi Central
Check out Cozi Central on the web. I LOVE IT! You use a different color for each family member, so you can see everyone's schedule at once. Or you can select one person's schedule. You can schedule a year in advance, if you want. There's a web version and a PC version. The web version can be accessed from any computer anywhere you go. Cozi Central gave me my life back! It's so easy!
Need suggestions on a desktop calendar software for my PC. SM

I'm looking for something that works similar to the calendar feature in Outlook.  I want to input appointments and reminders and have a little pop box come up to remind the day before.

Any suggestions for a good program?

Food plus calendar

I always give homemade food, chex mix plus cookies or muffins, vary each year.  But I also have friends who publish calendars (local scenic pictures) and I have several made up with my name on it and put in one of those, that way they have my number handy, etc.     All is deductible off your business as expenses and advertising.   They all look forward to it every year.  Did not do the calendar and received some flack about it the year I skipped so went back to it.

I love my Wallpaper Calendar

Link below. You can make it semi-transparent so that you can have a nice wallpaper background. It is ALWAYS there and you can set it to show as many as 9 weeks at a time.

They have a free 30-day trial and after that it costs $30, but I think it's worth every penny.

My calendar says it's repeat the same sentence over-n-over day

AnyTime Deluxe offers a number of different options for reminders to pop up, also with various sounds
Yahoo e-mail has a calendar that will send reminders
I have been using this for a while and love it. It will send as many reminders in a day as I want. I can even set it to send a reminder the day before and again the same day.
Thanks for the reminder that
Dennis Weaver was in that movie--what a thriller from Steven Spielberg. Dennis was very talented indeed.

I was also sorry to hear that Darren McGavin died. I loved watching "The Night Stalker" in high school.

Thanks for the reminder ...
I am so embarrassed to admit that I like that show, and have watched it since the beginning!
reminder yourself of....
the fact you don't have to get up and leave the house every day, get dressed, go out in all weather, put up with coworkers who can't see past their nose, for starters.

Reminder of why we love this job!!

Hi everyone - I have seen some posts recently about burnout - I got it after 9 years myself - went back to secretarial work at a hospital.  Thought it was great for about 6 months - could balance my checkbook, have lunch with co-workers, had a reason to get dressed up and get out of the house every day....except that there was a 45 minute commute each way a.m. and p.m. - because of the parking situation, which added 20 minutes each way.  And the fact that I could never run any errands or make any doctors appointments.

Oh, and the fact that when my children were sick 3 days in a 7 month period I got called in to my boss' office and chewed out for not having someone else available to watch my sick children.  Oh, and the office politics, let's not forget those.

Soo.....as transcriptionists, we get to use our brains and work hard, but we also have so much more flexibility.  We can have the laundry going while we work!  When we do a good job and get more work done, we make more money!  If we are 5 minutes late to work, we don't get "written up" for it.  We aren't treated like high school kids!  It's great!  I am giving my notice.  I can't wait to get back to the job that I once felt so burned out on!  I have a whole new perspective and a whole new appreciation for my "old" job.  I can't wait!!

It is a good reminder
Not just this board but others as well.  If you belong to another board, just Google your screen name and see what comes up.  I have been a part of parenting boards, in-law boards and I used to post but quit.  Not just because of the rudeness of other members, but mainly because I don’t know who could be reading.  If you write things out of anger, maybe the next day, the next week or even the next year, you may not feel that way anymore but it is still there on the web.   If that person you wrote about stumbled across that, put two and two together..well old wounds can be reopened  I just quit writing personal stuff on the web all together.  I think it is best to go to a close trusting friend or even a shrink for stuff like that.
LOL. You're right. It's been a while since I watched SNL. Thanks for the reminder.

Thanks for the reminder, will paste it on my desk! nm

Can you save your files to your desktop until this is fixed possibly?
The same way you do with a desktop. It
depends on the type of connection you have/need on your pedal.   If you use a USB it is simple, just plug into a USB port, if you need a game or serial port then you have to get an adapter and then you still plug into a USB port.
New Desktop
If under 1000 dollars is true, I would skip the used/refurbs and go directly to Costco. You or your friend must be a member but they have a system with a TERRABYTE Of memory. You cant go wrong with that much system. It is 600.00 without a monitor and you can get a compatible monitor for 100 or 200 these days.
Right click on your desktop (sm)
and select Arrange Icons and uncheck Auto Arrange.
A laptop is really no different than a desktop and whatever

you need on your desktop to work, you want on your laptop.   More and more laptops aren't coming with a dial-up modem and I would want that if traveling so that you have another option for connection.   Depending on how/where you travel you may never need it, but I think you always need several options for connecting.   I have used a laptop only for 5 years.   I do use an external keyboard, but it isn't wireless.   I don't know if computers have the ability to have something built-in for a wireless keyboard and/or mouse, but if not you have to have to connect something to your computer and that will just be another piece of equipment to have to keep you with.

There are a lot of companies who advertise "internet based," but that doesn't mean necessarily that you can just download dictation and work off-line.  Many companies want you to type live into their system, so if you are going to be looking for a new position you need to be sure about the details.

Some companies require you to use their equipment, so traveling wouldn't work well with something like that.   If you are able to use your own equipment if you had a laptop already they could load your laptop to start with.

Then seriously, save it to your desktop. That's it.

I have an HP laptop and a desktop....sm...

I've had the laptop since January 2007 and the desktop since December 2005. I have been pleased with both.  Tech support is from India but make sure you tell them you use your computer for business purposes and you'll get someone who speaks very good English.  Otherwise, you'll be repeatedly saying, "Scuse me.  Could you repeat that?"

My DH has two HP laptops and has been pleased.  Then again, my DD and her father, my ex-husband, both have Dell laptops and have been pleased.  They don't run theirs as much as I run mine though with several programs running at one time.

Get Windows XP Pro.  Don't go with Vista.  There are still some compatibity issues with MT software.

Laptop vs. desktop - I don't get it
The size of the computer shouldn't matter. It's probably the "wireless" that concerns them (though if a VPN is used and/or you have very good security software it shouldn't matter). Just plug in like you do at home and you should be able to connect.

Desktop Icons
go to your desktop and right click, hit new, hit shortcut, and then browse for your page.
Thanks, for that on my desktop, now where is autofill?
It says I can fill in by autofill but I see nothing like that on the top. Sorry for being such a duh type person but am struggling along today. Thanks so much!
copy that! (to my desktop) thank you! NM

I use a laptop and desktop...
The company (MQ) provided the desktop, the laptop is mine.  I do not think they provide laptops.
Replacing old desktop
Hey, I need to replace my old desktop computer (too old and slow).  The only thing I've been told is that I should definitely go with at least a dual core, but do you have any suggestions other than that?  I work in EditScript and so need Windows XP.  Also would like to keep the price under $1000, if possible.  Any MT with a "favorite" or a "definite don't"?  Thanks!
I have a desktop and a laptop...
I got the laptop for Christmas just in case the other computer died and guess what, the other computer died...the motherboard...just I just got a brand new desktop instead of paying to fix the motherboard since they wanted an arm and a leg...so for me having the laptop has been a God send...but it is not something you need to do to work at home...
Only when the desktop has to go into the shop,
and I have to move operations over to the laptop. I just plug my regular keyboard in, which is a Microsoft Comfort Curve 2000. I like this keyboard; it's cheap, so when I inevitably kill it (I am hard on keyboards; must be a hold-over from having learned to type on a manual typewriter back in the stone age) it doesn't cost a lot to replace. (I'm on my second one.) And it has a decent enough touch. The curve is just enough to straighten my wrists out to a neutral position, but not so much that I feel like I'm typing on an alien machine.
Options
Ever try reducing your monthly bills by getting a different car with a lower car payment, perhaps a smaller house with a smaller mortgage, and so on? I see no sense of living like that? Do you really enjoy life? Try to take it easy on yourself and enjoy life.

This is just my advice - I know there is no way I could be happy working 3 full time jobs, but if you are then all the power to you. Best of luck in all you do!
there are so many options, but
I would like to work with women in prison, or even preteens in school, its hard to say this early in the game.  Maybe even research. The ultimate goal would be to have my own practice and office and work with people on handling anxiety and depression.  Cognitive therapy has helped me tremendously and its something I believe in.  Just help people's perspective on life, because I have been there before and its all about reprogramming the brain to positive and undo whatever it has learned (for the most part not our fault) in the past.
Two options

I use the toggle feature (Alt-Tab) to quickly go to another open window, something I just learned recently.  But the best thing is to have Google as your home page.  I keep my home page closed, but use the Web/Home button on my Microsoft keyboard that opens it immediately and I can then just type in the word for search.  It's really fast.  Hope that helps!  The less mousing the better!

I did try that, but i don't have the same options as you. sm
I don't have the MIDI Synth nor do i have an advanced under the volume to even mess with my bass/treble. thanks though!
Well, there's really only 2 options here.
Either find a daycamp for them during the day, or cut down your hours.

The only other thing I can suggest is for you to change WHEN you work...i.e. VERY early in the a.m. before the kids get up or late at night. You can split up your shift 4hrs a.m./4 hrs p.m.

Of course this means more discipline on your part, and probalby more fatigue as your days will be longer than usual but I've done it this way in the past and, for me, it was worth it, to be able to work and still have plenty of time to do things with the kids.
options
You can Google a search term like "transcription call-in system" and others that you are interested in and you should get some options to pop up.

I'd recommend Express Scribe (free download) that allows you to play dictation with a USB foot pedal and look into Express Dictate for your daughter's end. I only have experience with Express Scribe, not Express Dictate, but it looks like it may be something she could use to dictate with and then send it to you via the internet.
Go to Options...
Select Playback tab...
Last line under "Playback" section...
set "auto backstep on stop" to up to 5000 ms.

Other options
Maybe instead of doing medical transcription, you could look into doing corporate transcription. There's a company out of New York called Ubiqus (ubiqus.com) and what they do is record things like phone interviews and project presentatoins for corporations and then you transcribe them - I've done this in addition to my other job for about 5 years now - it's really easy work and the pay's not too bad. You might also check with your local police department or Sheriff's office to see if they need anyone to transcribe taped interviews with suspects or witnesses. If they alrady have a company doing this, find out who it is and see if you can get on there. You've already got the transcription skills and there are so many other things to do with them than just medical. I also agree with the poster that said just take a terminology course, buy yourself an American Drug Index (for reference) and then look locally. Believe it or not, there are still some doctors that are using microcassettes for dictation, so you can bring those home, do the transcription and then take the notes back. Good luck to you whatever you choose and good luck with the baby! =)

Yes, you can try to get it yourself and it may be cheaper but you probably won't get the same coverage.

After our insurance went up (again) we decided to shop around to see what we could get. Yeah, we would've saved $$$ buying insurance ourselves but we would've had to go to a PPO with a huge deductible. It's just easier for us to keep the employer provided HMO since we have kids and you never know what happens or if we'll have the $$$ up front to go to the hosp.
