When my husband I got married a few years ago, I got on the Depo shot. My insurance picked up the cost of off of it, but if they hadn't, it was only like $60 and it lasts for 3 months. I haven't been on it for a while though since I am trying to get pregnant, but you may want to talk to your GYN about it.
