Does Anyone Know of A Good Medical Spell Checker For Office 2007?
Hello all! I am new to these boards :) . My husband bought me a new computer with office 2007 installed on it for Christmas :). I was curious if anyone knew of a good medical spell check for Office 2007. Thanks In Advance!!!
DQS spell checker
When you type "whre" instead of "where" when you spell check it the first word that comes up for a correction option is "whore." Wonder how many reports typed by some of our wonderfully accurate Medquist MT's made it through with the word whore in the report?
spell checker I use
I have used steadmans spell checker for word in the past but the company I work for uses Spellex. I cant really tell a difference between the two but I do know Spellex has a free trial on there site so you can try it before you buy.
Spell checker
I have used Stedman's spell checker on two different jobs and love it, but not the price, especially since it is just for one user. Can I really only put it on one computer? I am an IC and have two computers, and now need to buy a medical spell checker. What do all of you guys recommend? I like the fact that the spell checker automatically corrects a lot of the words, and does not simply flag them. I also do not want to go through a manual spell check after I finish a document. Is there another spell checker out there that works as well for less money?
spell checker
If you are working off a template or sample that has been spell checked previously you have to reset your document in - tools, options, spell check - check document - so that it will re-look at everything. I do this with every document just to be sure.
Spell checker
I recommend Stedman's Plus Spell Check software through their website. mnm
spell checker
I highly recommend Dorland's spell checker CD that comes with their illustrated dictionary (I paid about $55.00 two years ago). It has all of the words the dictionary has but the beauty of it is you install it directly into your word processing program. You have to change your dictionary from default to "medical". It then works like any other spell checker, except it is all medical. It saves a tone of time and is great for accuracy.
Stedman's Plus Spell Checker
I purchased a new computer that has Word 2007. The Stedman's Spell Checker that I have is the 2005 version. Does anyone know if it will work with Word 2007 or do I just need to purchase a new medical spell checker?
Medical spell checker
What is the best spell medical spell checker to buy? I'm new to this. Thanks.
My Stedman's spell checker
If I do not capitalize a non generic drug, my Stedman's capitalizes it, however it will not lower case the generics if I accidentally type it with a capital. However I am luck, my docs don't care and if I accidently capitalize a generic, no biggy or if I do not capitalize it, no biggy as long as the spelling is correct. I do try and be accurate but sometimes I am not. But I have noticed that my Stedman's will capitalize if it should be and I wish it would work the other way also. .
I type into EMR with no spell checker
KInd of like balancijng your checkbook without a calculator but it can be done. I keep the internet running in the background and at first did a lot of Google search as I did not trust myself especially with meds. But now I do. Are you typing in a word program or EMR's as if the EMR's are word based you can load on your Stedman's -- I was doing another type of EMR and could do that. Otherwise, you can copy and paste onto a laptop that you bring in with the spell check and do it that way. But again, I started out with a Dictaphone belts, Royal typewrite, then a selectric without correction and then correction capability. So it can be done, it really makes you think but now when I do my other, I don't have as many mistakes. Also don't be surprised if there are no expanders. Good luck.
MEDICAL WORD SPELL CHECKER
I want to update my 2000 Stedmans Spellchecker. Is there a newer version and what would be the best one to get.
Stedman's Spell Checker works for me. nm
Word 2007 Spell Checker
Is anyone having a problem with Word 2007 spell checker? Somtimes it underlines a misspelled word and sometimes it doesn't. I sent some notes in with quite of few misspelled words. It is so aggravating. I have checked all my settings, and it is set up to show misspelled words and grammar mistakes. I just don't understand why it works one minute but then doesn't work the next.
Best Spell Checker compatible with Vista?
I just bought a new Sony Vaio and I was wondering if anyone could recommend a spell checker that was compatible with Vista for Word 2007. Are there any out there that are good?
No, Stedman's spell checker does not work with
Meditech. Meditech has its own spell checker, and believe me, you want to stay away from it because it has been added to by transcriptionists at each site who DON'T KNOW HOW TO SPELL!
Meditech is the worst platform of any around bar none. It is not geared to transcription. It is only a data base system. The hospitals that use it are too cheap to do anything to upgrade to a Windows based transcription system. They will offshore before they will do that. Bottom line, you know. MEDITECH IS A PRODUCTION KILLER.
what kind of electronic spell checker to you use? sm
i'm thinking of getting an electronic spell checker, where it will automatically correct your words as you type. is there such a program?
thanks
Your Favorite Medical Spell-Checker?
Does anybody have any suggestions for which medical spell-checker to buy for a Word-based platform? Any suggestions on where to find one cheap that is still thorough? Thanks!
Can anyone recommend Spell Checker for Word 2003?
Can anyone recommend a reasonably priced medical spell checker?
I've seen some advertised and the prices vary, and I'm wondering which ones are good. Any info would be helpful. Thanks!
I use Sylvan software's medical spell checker and ...am
also their Shortcut word expander. I love both of them. Unfortunately, the spellchecker does not work in DocQscribe, which I work in now. I wish I could get it to because I hate the DocQScribe spellchecker.
I Use Spellex Spell Check
I have used Spellex for awhile and I love it!!!!! I beleive there is a trial of it on there site not sure though. I know that it comes on a cd. I hope this helps :)
I Would Try Spellex Spell Check
I believe you will need to purchase a new version. I had the same problem and Steadman's was not compatible with the Word 2007 version. So I did a Google search and found a company called Spellex that was compatible with Word 2007 and never thought about switching back. I think the new verison of Steadman's is compatible with Word 2007 now.
I hope this helps! :)
I Would Try Spellex Spell Check
I would try Spellex for the spell checker. I use it every day well worth every penny!!!!! I hope this helps
I personally like Spellex spell check
I personally like Spellex spell check but I would try a few out before making a purchase. Hope this helps :)
Stedman's Med Dictionary and Stedman's Med Spell checker are two different programs. Which on
do you have? If it is the medical dictionary, as far as I know it is only a reference software and can't be used as a spell checker.
If you have the spell checker, go into Word. Click on Tools, Options, and then Spelling & Grammar tab. Then click on the Custom Dictionaries button about half way down the window. This will open a new window that lists your available dictionaries and one should be checked. Mine is checked next CUSTOM.DIC (DEFAULT). There is an ADD button to the right. If you click it, you will be able to browse for your custom dictionary.
Hope that helps.
spellex is good
Yeah I have used spellex for awhile and its great!!!!! As far as the pedal it really depends on your setup and software that you are using. Hopefully that helps you out :)
I use Spellex and it's pretty good.
Like Diana, I used to use Stedmans but now use Spellex. It just seems to pick up a few more terms. JMO

It's a good idea to run a spell check
I would not correct as I went along. I always do a spell check.
Does anyone know of a good, but cheap spell check program? sm
Just did an upgrade to XP and have lost my "free" Spellex that I got with my schooling on my old computer. I have a new job but cant afford to buy the Spellex program yet. Any good ones that do both medical and drug names that is CHEAP? I plan to buy the spellex again when I get a few paychecks, but for now I need something. It is getting really tiring looking up so many drug names!
I use Spellex
Spellex seems to have the most terms in it. I believe they have a trial on there website so you can try it before you buy it. I hope this helps!!!
Spellex
Thanks Spellex, I just got notified I was a winner. Thanks for showing us your support during MT week. Happy MT week everyone.
Spellex

I would Try Spellex-Anywhere
I don't use Meditech but if it is just a text field I would try Spellex-Anywhere. They have a free trial on there website to try it before you buy. I hope this helps :)!
Spellex Anywhere
Update. I did download trial, but I could not get it to work right with Meditech.
Spellex for Me!!!!
I use Spellex and love it. I would recommend that you try out different spell checks to figure out which one you like the best. I believe they all have free trials. I hope this helps!!!!!
Does anyone know how or if I can get my copy of spellex....sm
off of my old computer? I was able to get a free copy when I went to the VLC about two years ago. I never bought any of the updates...just kept using the one I had downloaded for free. I have since changed to a new computer, but cant seem to get that copy off of my old computer. I was never given a disk, just info to download it. I have a couple of small accouts that I am working on, but am not really in position to buy a whole new program, especially after I just dropped major money on an Windows XP!! Any help is greatly appreciated!! Do you think it is possible the VLC would "replace" it?
I used to use Medispell but use spellex now!
Medispell didn't have the drug names i needed so i just bit the bullet and upgraded to spellex. It was a life saver.

Spellex test sm
I scored 90%, did not have my glasses on. The print was very small, I knew the correct answer, but read it wrong. Fun! (Be sure to wear your glasses.)
I use Spellex and Love it!!!!
I would try Spellex medical spell check. They have a trial on there website so you can see if its going to work for your version of word. I Hope this Helps!!!!!
I would try Spellex AccuCount
I would try AccuCount out and see if you will like it. I believe they have a free trial on the website for it(www.spellex.com). I use it and I believe it was $39. I hope this helps!! :)
I would check out Spellex
I know they offer a free trial on there website. I would try both of them out and see which one you like better. I hope this helps!!! :)
I use Spellex on my new computer and --sm
it is not slow, by any means. perhaps it is your computer. Word 97 is pretty much outdated by now. Anyway, I have tried Abacus as well, and Spellex gave me more lines consistently, than abacus did. but that is just my experience.
Has Anyone heard of Spellex?
Thanks for your suggestions. Does Steadman's have a free trial. I did a search on Google and came across a company called Spellex. I downloaded the free trial from there website and it seems to be great so far. I am just curious if anyone else uses it?
I had a lot of problems with Spellex on the
last update, misspelled words, etc. I currently use Stedman's.
