none of the "pros" in favor of leasing have offered any dollar amounts, percentages, appreciation, or depreciation facts. It's all about feelings, feelings, feelings. You know, deep down inside, that leasing isn't the best way to use your money. It's just the same as renting. It's for peopel who don't have the money, so they get ripped off because they are trying to act like people who do have the money. But most people "considering" leasing have already made up their mind that they want to lease. It's so much more less painful...

First off, my prayers go out to this family! You see a lot of this type of behavior in foster kids, who have seen way to much in their young lives and have been effected to no end.
I wonder if they should not try to place Tater in an inpatient Children's psych unit for a week, to get a total comprehensive work up? They may have a wider base of specialist who can pinpoint, diagnosis then treat Tater along with her family, more so than the psychologist.
Just a thought.
I've offered this before.
I'm telling you that what I'm finding are those problems as listed above. There are too many people who are in this business for the wrong reasons, either so they can stay at home or because they think they're going to get rich with minimal effort. Many comments on this board are disparaging toward anyone who is "on the other side", which is what I become when I try to hire help for vacations.
Simply put, the quality of the majority of the workers out there is not as good as it could be. You probably are the exception but I just haven't come across you yet. As far as having a pool of help, I would love to have that (what a luxury that would be!). I'm not unfair or unreasonable but I just can't seem to find the quality that you have been as fortunate to find.
I too have been offered every position I've
tested for and I'm not a CMT. I think the years of experience and doing well on tests is what gets you the job.
3-5cpl/7-10 cpl is what I've been offered or seen for eScription VR. nm

I've got a totally non-MT related issue that I need advice on. SM
Several years ago the husband of a friend of mine made a pass at me. When I was married we would get together with my friend and her husband to play cards and stuff like that. Her husband made a blatant pass at me, basically called me one night and asked me if I wanted to.... well you get the idea. After that I basically avoided going over to their house to play cards and we stopped getting together so often. I never told my friend because she is one of those who thinks the sun rises and sets on her husband's behind. Women have called her in the past and claimed to have slept with him and she has basically said they were liars and believed everything her husband said. I figured she wouldn't believe me and it would basically ruin our friendship.
Long story short, I ended up moving to another state and so the issue became a nonissue. Recently, I have separated from my husband and have moved back to the area where I'm from and where my friend and her husband live. She has basically started calling me and wanting me to come over again and stuff. Now, because I'm basically single, I am REALLY uncomfortable going over to her house. I've accepted her invitation a couple of times, but I just can't stand to be in the same room as her husband. It just makes me angry to look at him, so smug and just full of himself, like he's gotten away with something.
Anyway, my friend invited me to dinner this weekend and I decided to say no. She just called me and I told her that I have to plan my daughter's birthday party (which is true) and maybe some other time. Well, she was very short with me on the phone and basically hung up on me. Telling me that if I don't want to be friends, I should at least tell her to her face.
So now I don't know what to do or say. I want to be her friend, but I loathe her husband. What should I do? Asking her to do stuff without her husband doesn't work because she does EVERYTHING with him. She can't go to the grocery store without taking him with her. I feel very guilty right now, like I've hurt her feelings and I don't know what to do.
Leasing may work for you sm
Just read through each and every document. Make absolutely clear that you understand what condition in which the car is to be returned at the end of the lease. I do not know of one person who wasn't charged something or other at the end of the lease. They will be counting on your car as a resale "cream puff" at the end of the lease, and if you don't return it in very good condition (and within the mileage alloted at the outset), there will be fees.
Also, check into your insurance coverage. Insurance on a leased vehicle can be higher due to the fact that the insurance company is at significantly more risk if the car is totalled, and you own much less of it than you do with a conventional loan. Furthermore, make sure you are absolutely meticulous about logging your routine maintenance so you can prove it was done and keep your warranty active.
Did you ever consider purchasing a car that came off lease? It would only be a couple of years old and in good condition, sometimes with much warranty remaining. That way, someone else would take the new car depreciation hit.
A better solution may be to find a reliable independent mechanic. I go to a great little garage where labor costs are a fraction of what you pay at the dealer and they stand 100% behind each and every repair.
No matter what you decide, good luck! My dear old '89 car is dying and I will be in your shoes looking for a car very soon.
Leasing works for me (sm)
I am in the same boat. I just ended my first lease and had less than 25,000 miles on the car after 37 months. Leasing also allows you to get more car for the money, as lease payments are much lower than buying, especially if you can find a special. I'm not watching for car ads right now, since I just got my new vehicle three weeks ago, so I can't tell you of any specials. You can sometimes buy a low-mileage lease (we took 10,000 miles/year and saved an extra 3%) if you know you won't use the mileage.
You will always have a car payment (which we would anyway) but you will always be within warranty and only pay for gas and basic maintenance. Then again, you will always have a new car. Good luck!
leasing vehicle - sm
Thanks for all the reponses, honest and otherwise. You all basically told me what I felt inside - the only one who makes out on a lease is the dealer. Thanks again.
leasing vehicle
If you travel 12-15,000 miles or less and do not want to worry about repairs, etc, and know you want to drive a newer vehicle always - having a payment always, leasing is good. I leased for a while and it was fine, but then started putting on a lot more miles. So now I buy my vehicle and drive until it dies. Matter of opinion.
Leasing question
Does anyone know of a company where a Lanier can be leased? I just purchase, less than a month ago, a C-phone for an IC position and now, finally after several weeks, a fulltime position came through but I need a Lanier. I cannot afford to buy another piece of equipment, especially since I have not received a check from my IC position yet and when it comes in, the first one is only going to be about 90+ dollars because of timing. They pay every two weeks and it is a week behind for payrolling or something along those lines. Any ideas?
I know they are suing MQ regarding leasing
breach of contract or confidentiality or something - maybe that MQ used info obtained from DQS to solicit their clients? Something to that effect. I have worked for both and I don't know which company was worse or better. Since I lasted years with MQ and only months with DR, I would have to say that MQ was better for me, which is a sad statement in itself. DR is always, always hiring, particularly for 1 horrible account in Florida, I believe. So I guess everyone is used to just ignoring their ad by now. Wish I had better news!
anyone have personal experience with leasing a vehicle
I've never owned a car, end up upside down on the loan, owe old loan on top of new loan, and own it for so long it starts to tinker and I pay for repair on top of the loan. What is the downside of leasing? I heard you sometimes have to pay, but only if you drive over the limited mileage right? Working at home, that saves mileage on commute which makes up 70% of it I would suppose. Plus being new it won't nickle and dime me to death with repairs, low payment because you only pay for the amount of money it would depreciate for the time you own it. Any personal experience with this, and is there red tape or hidden small print? Going to start looking really soon, I only hear bad things but its from people who drive a lot. I think a new car is a necessity in this day and age, with all the swindling mechanics and the dependence to get from here to there. A new different car every three years doesnt sound so bad either.
leasing is same as renting a house, never the best financial choice...sm
bottom line is somebody is making money off of you leasing. If they didn't make money off of you, they wouldn't lease. Same thing with renting. Renters always cover the mortgage and repairs on a home while the owner reaps the benefit of building equity. Now cars are a little different as they definitely depreciate while homes do not (usually!) but as I said, if they weren't making money doing it, they wouldn't do it. You can easily find a traded-in used vehicle with 50,000 or less at a dealership. Get one of the yearly reports from Consumer Reports and you can find which cars are the most reliable (for example, Buick LeSabres - those things run 4ever). Best financial move is to buy it from a private party with cash. I mean showing up with the whole offer in $100 bills. Few people can pass that up. If you can't get the money together to buy a car outright, you will for sure never get ahead driving someone else's car and paying them for the privilege of it. And you are just kidding yourself if you're driving around in a "new car" that you can't even afford to buy.
leasing in like renting - paying someone else for the privilige of driving their vehicle..sm
with the low mileage you put on vehicles, you would have an easy time selling outright to a third party. Crunch the numbers. figure out what you would pay for leasing, including deposit. Figure out what you could buy that same car for. If you hold it for 5 years, you can get an idea of how much cars depreciate by checking blue book prices on the current model and a 5 year model. Use that to figure what percent it would depreciate. Then add your leasing costs all together. Add your car payments all together. Then subtract from the car payment what your car would be worth in 5 years, because you'll get that back, ya know. IMHO leasing is done by people too lazy to figure out the numbers and by people that it's important to "look good" to the neighbors, regardless of what your bank account actually holds. Hope you don't mind my honesty.
poor, poor management
Line count stealing, no help, rude management, you name it SS has it if it is bad!!!!!!! Run, run, save your life.
Not true. There are times that renting a home and leasing a car make more sense.
than outright purchase. Do your homework.

Sound advice from a fellow MT if you want advice or support (sm)
I have been an MT for over 10 years. I also am getting burnt out, tired of my job, day in day. However, I do love transcription and make excellent money at it, have grossed over $50,000 per year the last 5 years. I decided to go back to nursing school and am very happy with my choice. However, over these 10 years of transcription I have had my ups and downs. My biggest issue with being at home working is lack of socialization, being home day in and day out with just the kids and the animals really gets to a person, sure hubby is home at night and thinks working from home is the easy life, thus the return to school and boy has my overall enjoyment of life changed once I realized I was the problem, not everyone else and I needed to find myself again.
Anyway, my biggest advice to you three-fold:
1. Get into counseling for yourself, find out who you are and what your needs are, whether or not you think you need to, I sense you are feeling overwhelmed and need someone other than your family to talk to that can be nonjudgmental to your feelings and needs.
2. If you're only making $100 after you pay preschool you can either keep doing it and be miserable, or quit because you are lucky enough to have a husband who can support the family without your income. (See how fast his mind changes just by losing the income you do have as to whether your job means anything.) Or look for a different company or office that you like more and are more productive if you really want to do transcription (lots of fish in the sea as far as companies).
3. Find a local "mom's" group where you can get out and socialize. MOPS (mother's of preschoolers) is an excellent one that is nationwide, they have a website. Also Mom2Mom is in a lot of areas. They provide a once a week time for moms with kids the same age to get together, socialize, (some offer spirtual guidance some don't) and each week a different mom takes a turn watching everyone else's children at the facility that hosts it so the other moms can talk about things they have in common. Every stay-at-home and work-from-home mom needs to socialize with adults, without their kids, or they will have a nervous breakdown eventually no matter how much they love their kids.
Sorry so long but it does get better but you have to take the first step at making yourself happy.
I use EXText with my current job and I've used at a couple of other jobs I've had. I've ne
used DocQscribe, but I have used Meditech, Cerner, Vianeta, the Precyse platform (I can't remember the name), Dolbey, and Lanier platform I think was called Cequence (?).
Out of all the different platforms I have typed on, I have liked EXText the best. In my opinion, it's very user friendly, easy to learn, and I really like ESP which is the built in abbreviation expander. Plus it is very easy to create your own normals which I love. My fingers literally never leave the keyboard because there are macro keys for everything. You can use your mouse if you prefer or learn the function macros. I love it. I think I'm more productive on EXText than with any other platform.
I am sorry but you must have me confused with someone else.
I don't cherry pick. However, I am very interested in increasing productivity. If you have something to say along those lines that would be more helpful. Thank you and have a blessed day.

Confused
WAIT A SECOND.....someone is contradicting themselves here by saying MQs debts are not high either - HELLO! What is all this talk then about what they owe in legal fees?
Confused about
Is it just me or did NM just answer her own post above? sm nm? two people? one person?
confused
I think that you have that confused. A gameport is 15 pin, or db15 and a serial port is 9 pin, or db9. This is important to know when troubleshooting the problem. javascript:editor_insertHTML('text','');
I'm confused...
On what basis/grounds would a college have to sue someone who opens a transcription school? I know that the US has gone to the dogs but...uh...I don't think a college has any legal recourse towards someone for opening a school.
I don't mean to be mean, but you sound kind of flakey.
This is where I get confused.
An instinct is an inborn tendency. If you have the instinct to be gay, you are gay. Whether you act on that or not isn't the point. It says somewhere in the Bible that thinking of the sin is as bad as doing the sin. Not acting out as a homosexual doesn't make you not gay.
You are confused...
it's happening before your eyes and you cant see it.

A little confused...
What does failing a test have to do with technology. You obviously were able to transcribe the dictation because you had to have submitted a test in order for it to be scored. No, they don't take off for taking your time unless they specify that you must complete test by X time. It's the quaility of the work that you type that counts. If you've been doing this for as long as you say...what's the problem?
Every company has some sort of platform. Are you hoping to find a company that allows you to use a typewriter?
Confused
I just visited their website. If you click on "jobs" it states that MTs get 2 weeks paid vacation and sick time which accumulates immediately after hire and that MTs can make from .06 to 0.12 a line.
BUT, if you look at the employee handbook (which MTs have to read and sign), it states that MTs make between .06 and .075 a line and that you have to work for them for a year before accruing any time off.
I'm confused
I would like to help, but I don't understand the question at all. I think all the pay rates you have mentioned sound good. Not sure about the benefits. Benefits was THE deciding factor in the job I took.
Confused
I am confused by the fact that you can be an employee, work 8 hours/day for five days, Monday through Friday, and not be compensated for OT if working more, i.e weekends. In the "real" work world you are required to get OT if over 40 hours. I do not understand how this plays out as being okay. Help me understand.
Now I am confused....
I get no benefits, no taxes withheld, so how exactly am I an employee? If my husband does contract work for one company for the year he is still a contractor.
confused
Personally, I enjoy working at home. There are plenty of companies out there that you can work from home for. I would just really push the hospital about getting you set up at home. Tell your boss you cannot work OT and that is that. You have another job. Tell her if she wants you to work to pay you extra and that you would be losing more money by working for them on OT than working for your other co. (I would definitely play the $$ part). Sometimes then they will give extra incentives. If not i would go over her head!
Need help, so confused
I use short cut for windows as an expander. Today was the first time I ever checked the statistics. When I divide the total characters, including those put in by short cut, then divide by 65, my line count is 2415, (which is about what I used to do on my old job) if I take the total characters only transcribed, not the ones inserted by short cut, I get 1611 lines. The line counting program for my job gives me 1600 lines, does this mean that I am not getting compensated for anything put in my shorthand? If that is the case, then this is really discouraging and maybe I need to stop using my shortcut? Can anyone tell me if I am figuring this incorrectly. Any info will be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance
Confused
What do you think the issue is then. My friend transcribed a report in Courier New 12 and got a line count. She then highlighted the same report and changed the font to Times New Roman 12, and she said that the lines were half of what the Courier New 12 was. I'm confused. She is totally new to this company, and I think she is being ripped off. She said that she figured she made $348.00 for working last Saturday and Sunday at 8 cents a 65-character with spaces line count. She found out today that she only made $174.00. Any explanation?
Not as confused....sm
Thanks! I'll look into both options. Dragon looks more affordable. The others look very pricy for a one-man-band. I'm making calls now to see. :)
More confused.
Keystrokes wants me to have one, they are going to supply it and it is worth $500. I can't imagine why I would need to have one. It takes forever to get emails back from them so I thought I'd ask here before I spend time emailing them.
I'm confused....
Why is it on every post on this board someone feels the need to start an argument? I am not a MTSO, I am one person, looking to bring on another person for this account. This account will pay 14 cpl. I don't see where there is any bashing going on here.
Confused
I guess I am confused. I have read on the board where I guess some services pay minimum wage no matter what your line count is. I just think this sounds weird. Again, to me you get paid for what you actually produce. I am just wondering, as I begin a new position next week with a MTSO.
Really Confused now
So why am I getting a 1099 that doesn't show my company paying anything at all? I'm paying all my taxes every year.
Confused
Is the 865 for a 40 hour week or 80 hour pay period? One place you say a full 40 hours and then you say it is a biweekely paycheck.
Confused?
I was frustrated by those complaining about making $20/hr not someone, who doesn't have a job. I don't blame you for being unhappy, and I wouldn't blame you for complaining. I am sure I would be too if I didn't have a job either.
I am employee, in answer to your question. I also pay for my own equipment, references, phone, internet, and utilities. Yes I get insurance and retirement, but that is why I get paid less than IC.
I guess I don't know what to say about not being able to find a job. I would think with the number of openings you see posted on mtjobs.com and on here, there might be something, but I could be wrong. I am sorry for the situation you have been put in. The economy is very hard right now.
Confused....
No offense to Jay Vance, but he's been very involved with those pushing outsourcing from the get-go, now known as AHDI. So are you saying that now he's severed his connection to AHDI and is now following a more benevolent inner light or what? I'd like an explanation for this apparent contradiction before I join anything proposed by Jay Vance, CMT.
Here is a link that might refresh some memories: http://mtresources.org/?page_id=2
confused is confused and I sent her sm
two notes telling her she had the wrong person but since she has ripped into me she doesn't have the decency to apologize for her mistake. I guess hse is hiding now!
I'm confused now
I'm trying to figure out why you need a splitter at all for your foot pedal? I have 2 foot pedals- one came as a USB, which I just plug into any available USB port. The other requires a converter that takes it from- I believe it's a 9-pin- game controller to a USB, a piece, incidentally, that I had to get from Radio Shack as most places don't carry them.
Maybe that's what you need. If so, let me know and I'll track mine down and see I can't find the part number off it for you.
I was offered a job at MQ,
as a newbie, is that a good place to start out?
It is too low. I was offered .075 for 10 yrs exp
Needless to say, I turned them down and am glad I did!! Getting 10 now!
Offered 6 for IC
Offered 6 for IC, but am currently working for 8 through service. You sent me something on the company??
I currently get 10 cpl and have been offered 1 other
positions in the past for 10 cpl. My current position is as employee with benefits. The other position was as an IC with WebMedex at 10 cpl and 11 cpl over 6,000 lines/week. With most other companies 8 cpl seems to be the "norm", though there are always exceptions, with plenty of companies paying less than that and a few paying more.
