living paycheck to paycheck
Yeah, I feel your pain. I shop for as much groceries as possible in the Dollar Aisle at a local Kuhn's grocery store. Hopefully you have something like that around you.
Serious Poll: Paycheck-to-Paycheck
1. Are you living paycheck-to-paycheck? Defined: Missing one paycheck would seriously harm your basic living (housing, food, utilities or necessary meds/medical care).
2. If you lost your job today, without warning, do you think you could be employed again within 1 payperiod?
3. Do you have an emergency fund in case a loss of job happens?
My answers:
1. Missing 1 paycheck would hurt but not devastate me. Mising 2 or more, yes - it could be dire.
2. Yes, most definitely.
3. Started one and slowly building it up.
In this economy? I don't think 5 cpl for ANYTHING
Especially when they state they want someone who has experience, and is good at what they do. And more than that, such as 9-10 cpl, is an insult for straight medical transcription. MT isn't a 'career', it's a US sweatshop run by Indians.
economy
I think the biggest part of it is the economy right now. People are out of jobs, out of insurance, or worried about their jobs and trying not to spend any money, even on health care (dentists seem to be getting the worst of it). Unfortunately, aside from perpetuating the bad cycle of no spending = low business profits = job cuts, in medical terms it is especially bad that people are delaying things that they really need to avoid future problems/expenses, such as colonoscopies, screenings, etc. From everything I have seen so far, this is happening across the board with transcription volumes down. It's normal that we are in a slow period right now just after the holidays, but it seems there are a lot of people on these boards having a hard time finding a new MT job, even with a good resume. I don't think that is going to change until the economy rebounds. There are other challenges for the industry from India, EMR, SR, etc., but I think the economy is affecting our volumes in the immediate present more than anything right now.
Does it have a lot to do with the economy
Do you think it has to do with the economy or is this the way it has been for a while? I see posts from last year where people were being placed pretty easily and quickly.
I thought that maybe in a year things would look a little better. Hopefully anyway...
already signs its bad for the economy
As consumers, we are cutting back, because the price of everything is going up and wages going down. Its completely out of balance. Since Bush has been in office, consumers have had to increase their spending because of higher prices in the last year by about 200 billion. Three years ago, consumers were spending 100 billion, now we are spending 500 billion. People have just started to cut back, thats why movie theatres are advertising more to get people back in there, not as many kids are eating out, especially with the gas prices skyrocketing. We've got a complete moron in the office.
THIS economy is doing well, unemployment at 4.9%. Where do you get
x
I think it is the economy. People don't have the
money to buy insurance, or are contractors because their company won't provide insurance, and they cannot afford to have the surgeries they used to. Unless it is a true emergency I bet the hospital rolls are way down. The economy is just very bad right now, and most folks can't even put a doc visit on a credit card, because the credit cards are maxed out. BTW: Even McDonald's recently closed at a mall close to me. Even they are feeling the economic crunch. Yikes!
I think most in this economy would not have a problem
accepting an inhouse deal, some yearn for the chance to have a so called steady income, steady work. The pay seems good. You just said you ran out of work for a few days. You have to ask yourself would you rather sit around in PJs, no money perhaps or inhouse with money. Simple.
AND if another country's economy fails
it will greatly affect us.
In this economy I would not dare - they may look elsewhere, be careful!
.
This economy is so bad, and the past overhiring
have made MTSOs scared, I believe. I sent out a zillion resumes a day and finally ended up with 1 full-time and 1 prn just in case the FT runs out of work. It took a year while I worked at a bad place and went broke. But you have got to keep trying, please keep up the faith. Statistically the more you send out the better chance of getting a response. Did not help when Medquist's thousands of MTs left at once too, so the market is flooded right now. Good luck to you.
paycheck
Mine was direct deposited yesterday, Wednesday.
paycheck
I worked for them for about 7 months the first 5 with direct deposit was fine but the last couple where they mailed checks was bad!!! My last several checks were 2-3 weeks late. Several people have left here. The "captain" is crazy. You would not believe some of the crazy & nasty emails he sent me. I would definitely get out of here unless you like waiting 2-3 weeks for a check and then are not sure if it will clear. Yes I heard a few checks bounced. Sorry I could go on and on about this guy but I think I have said enough. Good luck to you.
first paycheck?
It usually takes a full billing cycle for direct deposit to get going in my experience.
paycheck
Yeah the MTSO was responsible in that if they had payed her when it was agreed upon she could have paid her bills and wouldn't be in a financial bind. If you have your paycheck you can pay your bills. You work to pay bills, not for the heck of it. Yeah, you should have a cushion but they should pay on time. You think a sick child is an excuse you go pay a few doctor bills a see how much "cushion" you can keep in the bank. Don't judge people without knowing the circumstances. You don't know what is wrong with the child or how frequently they have to go to the doctor and it costs money not to mention the medicine. They have an agreed upon paydate and she has every right to be angry when she doesn't get her money. People work to pay bills. Alot of people don't have a big cushion in the bank.
No paycheck
I started with a company about three weeks ago, and here is the situation. This is my first transcription job, so I think I was a little too eager to jump at the job offer when it was given to me. They charge a "set up fee" of 100.00 that is taken out of the first paycheck. I am only getting paid 5 cents/line, so I did not make that much more than the 100.00 (I think about 40.00). The pay period ends on the last day of the month and checks are issued on the first of every month. They do not offer direct deposit, so I have been waiting for the last nine days for my measly 40.00 check. I really just want it to have documentation that I have paid the stupid set up fee (which I am embarrassed that I even agreed to). I have emailed them 5 or 6 times with no response whatsoever. They continue to send me work, and will (usually) answer questions regarding work, but NOTHING about my requests to see where my check is.
I have since found a much better and higher paying position with another (wonderful) company, but I do not really want to put in my 2 weeks' notice until I have that check. Any ideas??
definitely paycheck to paycheck sm
Losing even 1 would devastate me.
I am the only wage earner, and it is paycheck to paycheck.
There is nothing set aside to help, just in case. But I definitely feel I could get another job almost immediately with my skills and experience.
It's a hard knocklife.
Yeah, the whole world economy is going to be derailed because
Do you realize that the Bush tax cut saved this economy after 9/11?
Everybody got a tax cut. Now you can't cut taxes to those who don't pay any, can you? That would be socialism. BTW, do you realize that the unemployment rate in those countries with cradle to grave entitlements runs more than 10%, as compared to our 4.9%. France for example. I know it seems like a simple solution that the taxes from the high wage earners should be taken away and given to those who don't earn anything, but in economic terms, that can destroy an economy and therefore hurt the low wager earners even more. Case in point, the Clinton luxury tax back in the 90s. He put a huge tax on boats and jewlery and had to remove it because of the trickle down damage that did to all the jobs those luxury items created.
Make sure you don't have it in express or economy mode.
Is it faint all over consistently or is it uneven? If it's consistently faint, go to your Start Menu, Control Panel, Printers and Faxes, right click on Dell Printer 720, Properties, General, Printing Preferences, and make sure Quality/Speed isn't set on Quick Print. If that doesn't fix it, post again and we'll try something else. You may have to put in a new cartridge.
They encourage outsourcing, global economy.

You will have paycheck on Monday 711/05

Why is it that the more desperately you need your paycheck,
the later the mailman is delivering?
Production is my paycheck
I work in 1 of my bedrooms with a big window facing the driveway. I have done this work for 30+ years. The office also has my husband's computer in it. I have absolutely no problem in keeping my mind on my work, the pay alone is the answer, no work, no pay and the more lines the better I feel when I get that check. I never see things I should do around the house because I have a housekeeper that comes every other week and takes care of things like that for me. Housework is about the last thing I want to do!!
whoever signs your paycheck
has the final say.
But, you might consider drawing up a "contract" that states the terms and conditions ... the dotor takes the ultimate responsibility ... your initials are only a reference ... and so forth. You sign it and they sign. Throw in a notary.
Not when your paycheck depends on it, it isn't.

To get the paycheck I want, I work
5 days a week and I type 1500 lines per day. I am radiology and therefore this is easy to achieve and for the most part, I am done in less than 7 hours but I will put in 7 hours.
No paycheck, need advice
I have worked for a company since April 21 of this year. I began asking about my first paycheck around the beginning of May, because it was my understanding that I would be paid for what I worked in April on May 1. After asking MANY times, one of my bosses (they are husband and wife) finally responded to me (saying that he had already responded many times) only when I stated that I would not continue to submit any more work until I got an explanation of where my paycheck was. He told me that I had misunderstood when I was hired, and that I would be paid June 1st for the pay period of March 5 - April 29. I decided (stupidly) to continue working, and the same thing has happened this month. I have been given three different explanations as to when my paycheck was mailed. Today, I finally stated, again, that I would not submit work until I received either the paycheck, or a faxed copy or emailed copy of something that proved that a check was issued and mailed to me. He was very rude, and basically said, he would not do it, and I would be "shut off" from work. The wife emailed me and said she did not want me to quit, and that the check had been resent the previous day. I subsequently gave my two-weeks' notice, and stated that I would complete any and all assignments given in the next two weeks, but wanted to quite thereafter (which I have to do according to the contract I signed). I live in CA, and the company is located in PA... and I already submitted a back-wage complaint online, but do not know what else to do. I have read recently that other people have had this problem, and am in contact with someone else that works there currently, who has only received one paycheck, and has worked for them since January. They also charge a "start up fee" of 100.00, so the check I am waiting on is only for 17.00! It's not the money, It is the fact that I have worked very hard for 2 months and have not been paid! He was also very rude and brought up personal things about myself and family in his emails. ANY ADVICE is MUCH appreciated. Thank you.
Unions are increasingly a thing of a by-gone era. In this global economy,

economy doing well? did you ever consider unemployment is lower because after people lose their job
or temporary jobs. well, obviously unem. would look low. what town do you live in? we have major closings of businesses almost on a monthly basis.
we have stores closing all over the place. even 3 burger kings. gas is over $3.00, from $2.00, and is intended to stay that way.
I know of hardly anyone personally who is working full-time with any good benefits to speak of.
of course unem. would look like it is going down. 2000 people lose their jobs, 500 people find lower-paying, service jobs, and then unem. is down?
just look around, if you think the economy is so great. we are suffering in our area. we now face heating fuel prices going up may 100%, which is just went up about 50% last year, for some excuse or another.
americans are being extorted, and it is by our own rich in this country, who are what, the top 3%?
ever wonder where ALL that tons of money goes that is saved by closing shops, getting rid of full-time employees and all the benefits.
DOES THE SAVINGS GET PASSED-ON TO US, THE LITTLE GUY? No, we are actually pay MORE for everythiing. do you grocery shop? ever notice prices going up almost monthly, if not some weekly? salad dressing, 99 cents a few years ago, now over $2, and going up to $3?
how is that good for the economy again?
And we have the largest economy on earth, and lots of good comes

Considering all that you mentioned, the fact that the economy is growing is amazing. But,

SS paycheck question for SS employees
This is my first check and it seems like they did not hold out taxes, does anyone know if you get a copy of a paycheck to see?????
I don't feel in control of my paycheck
For example, I start out on a roll, going along at a really good pace.. get half my production in a few hours, then all h - - - breaks loose. Here comes the bad stuff...All of a sudden, its not about skill... its about detective work...hunting foreign referral doctors names and addresses, etc, many times I can't even understand what the name starts with. I have to search and search for what seems like hours just to get what might or might not be the right name! OOPS...there goes that production. I'm at the mercy of my "pool". I have no control over that or the paycheck from that point on. Any suggestions?
Self-employed even worse getting paycheck
Bill three doctors at the end of the month, and still waiting two weeks later, sometimes three. I even stay up all night and do a 12h turnaround time. You'd think they would see I was paid in a reasonable amount of time!
Are there any deductions for taxes on your paycheck?

Nada! My work and paycheck are enough!

As Economy Slumps, Firms Line Up to Hire Skilled Foreign Workers
What the heck is going on around here? It just gets better by the day!

Right, they want all this time off, yet you can bet they expect a FULL paycheck come payday! nm
.
don't worry, they'll catch it. Probably take it out of your next short paycheck.nm

And should you not receive your final paycheck in a reasonable amount of time,
notify them that you will be filing complaints with the Department of Labor, the BBB, the FTC, the state attorney general's office, and small claims court.
As an IC you invoice the company, count your own lines, and receive a paycheck.
First Choice, JLG, QT Medical, Metro in Atlanta, just to name a few.
Most use SylCount or something similar. I used Abacus - free line counting software.
Thank you dear!
But, my dear, you see, when you are able to
see another MTs line counts and the job #s that they have done, and how they skip many, many reports, when the work was sent and how the job #s went for each job type, you then KNOW when someone is cherrypicking!!! It is also great that you are able to go into the system and check out the job #s she DID and know that they were the best of the best dictators!! Believe me, it does make a huge difference to those of us who do not cherry pick. The account I work on is relatively small and only 5 or 6 MTs working on the account. When the cherry picker has her two days off, I really, really make great line counts. The rest of the week is a real struggle. I say keep showing the other MTs work.
This is definitely not someone's hallucination; it is a reality and happens all the time. Once an MT gets all the proof she needs, then it is only common sense that she should go to the supervisor to point it out and the situation should be corrected. What I try to do, at times, is go on very early in the morning, around 2:00 AM; do all the "crap" that she left for me plus then be able to get some of the good guys. There have been times where I've been tempted to skip the bad just like her and leave her the bad!! However, then I feel guilty!! Cherry pickers need to be ousted from MT work. Do the job that comes up and be happy about it!!
Then my dear ..
You have no clue about the workings of an inner city. I am not saying walk into bullets or gangs .. what I am saying is that you have no clue how the plantation mentality looks to the rest of this world .. lining up all the wrongs do not make them right and it is downright ignorant to be so obviously insensitive to those who live differently than you do. Mother help us all when there are people like you who have no concern for simple human suffering .. this is not a race issue god blast it .. it is a human issue and we all got here and are going out of here the same damned way.
Hello there my dear
You HAVE deserved it honey. But this post is neither the time or place to discuss your "bonus." (I am chuckling and I think you know why).
My dear, I think you know your beauty is more important to me than any report you could ever type. Perhaps, the next time I drive by, you could be in, um, lets say, your birthday suite? UH OH - I hope my wife don't catch me on here (shaking in my boots).
Smooches and Kisses my lovely.
