We lease
It's a version of living beyond your means.

"Lease payments are much lower than buying" talk about needing instant gratification! Leasing per mile is always more expensive than ownership. You forget, at the end of the lease, you give the car back. At the end of the same $$ spent in car payments, you could sell the car and get MONEY back.

My husband is also in the car business and although he has a car that is now paid off, we've been leasing my vehicles for over 8 years. I also resent what one of the posters said about living from pay check to pay check and living beyond our means. We do not live beyond our means in any way and if we live pay check to pay check, I'm sorry we aren't as priviledged and as you and your family. You don't know everyone's situation so please don't judge those of us who don't do things your way.

oh, puh-lease. you don't have to QA here. nm

I'm sure you weren't the original "just me".  Lots of people use that as their name on here, as well as mtmt, mtmtmt, radmt, happymt, etc.  Due to the way this site is set up it is unavoidable.  If you want to post somewhere where your name is exclusively yours, this may not be the site for you.
Equipment For Lease
Hi! I would be doing part time transcription for two months and would need micro casette transcriber. Does anybody know if there is any company that lease transcription equipment. Thanks in advance.
Lease Equipment
Part-Timer.

Do you need a cassette transcriber. I bought one from ebay that works great. Think it was about $80.00 and never used it. Will sell it to you for the same. Or you can try EBAY.

Hope this helps.

I only lease. I want a new car every 3 years. sm
After 3 years, things need fixing. I have had no problems whatsoever leasing my vehicles. You can even bargain the price and lease amount. Negotiate is the key. I always get the 0 down, 36 month leases and they work out great. Mind you, I have to negotiate hard for the 0 down, but it always works out and the sales people given in.

I am on my 4th leased vehicle 2nd year. By next year, I will be ready for a new car again.

I considered a lease once (sm)
but when I found out my payment would be only $1 different I decided to buy instead. My loan was for the same length of time as the lease, had no "fees" attached, and didn't require a down payment. Make sure you read all the fine print on a lease. They can determine who services the vehicle. They determine "wear and tear" when you turn it in, early termination fees (you never know), and on and on. Any little dent that might be on the vehicle will need to be repaired, either by your insurance or out of your pocket, or they will charge you for it at turn-in. Beward of leasing salesmen that call you after you have already leased the vehicle and try to squeeze cash out of you. I've heard of that scam more than once.

The only way to end up upside down on a loan is to pay more than it's worth to begin with. As soon as you drive a new vehicle off the lot you are upside down on the loan and will be for at least 6-12 months. You'd be better off buying a vehicle from someone else who made that mistake. Not a lease buy-back, but from a private individual who needs to get out of their loan and hasn't driven the vehicle into the ground in a year's time. With a year-old vehicle you can easily determine whether there are major problems with them too, unlike new vehicles where you just hope it's going to be okay. Check epinions.com and read reviews from owners who are already driving that vehicle. Good luck!
I personally like to lease and SM

decide at the end whether I want to keep the vehicle or not (I have low mileage also)...but if you have dogs/kids/heavy wear on the car (burns, stains, scratches, etc.) when you turn the car in they charge hefty fees for rehabbing the car.

I just like to have new cars under warranty, which is the great part about leasing.

System lease or buy?
If I had my own clients, wouldn't I have to make a large investment for a call in system?  Any advice on that?  Also, I did make up flyers and put them all over medical offices and I only got 3 calls and one came to be out of hundreds.
I have been doing this forever as well, but
never thought to work toward a half daily goal. I work in 2 hour increments in that same manner, but find that in the morning that first 2 hour break comes too soon. I don't know why I didn't think to try a 1/2 day goal, other than after doing this forever I may be "stuck in a rut." By the way, great post!
YES!! always and forever LOL nm

Busy MTg...quesiton for you, lease sm
I read your post that you are on DQS (all my accounts will be on DQS beginning Nov 15; right now, only a few are).

Do you use the DQS expander? I'm asking because I find it just simply dreadful and I use Instant Text, but have only been using IT for a short time and haven't gotten completely used to it.

The transition from MTShell Expander to DQS expander was difficult because the DQS expander doesn't allow for nearly as many expander keys. IT is pretty good, I suppose, but uses a completely different system so that is taking some getting used to.

Just curious as to what expander you use. My expander database is huge, but I'm having to do some major modifications for it to be used to any great degree in IT.

TIA

Regards,
CB
never heard of lease trader, thanks for the tip

I'm hoping to keep payments under 200 though, probably dreaming.

I alway lease, very 3 years I have a new car. sm
I works for us. I bought 2 cars and by the time 4 years rolls around I am tired of it and want a new one. So, the better option for us is to lease every 3 years. It works great and the payment is much more affordable.

I will always have a car payment as I get tired of the same old thing after a while. So, knowing that, leasing is the best option for me.
I am with you - I lease, love having new car every 3 years. nm

Do not lease. Big financial mistake for you. (nt)

No way! It took me forever to figure out how to get - sm
my DOS Smartype to work (MTSO still uses WP 5.1), couldn't imagine the nightmare of figuring that all out all over again. Every Windows has had tons of bugs, I'd rather wait 2 years until they are all worked out, plus it will cost a lot less then probably. I plan to avoid it all together if I can.
Yes you can, took me forever to figure it out - sm
but I have my WP5.1 and Smartype on mine. Had to change a few things in a couple files and change a BIOS USB setting, but works great. PRD will work to, go to the Columbia website and they have it all mapped out there how to do it. You just have to do about 3-4 things and it will work.
Nothing is forever....see message
But it's better to go from good to bad than from bad to worse!
To those that lease puters from MQ with DQS on them, what brand do they send you? Thx. nm

Anyone lease their vehicle? Need pros and cons please - sm
Am considering trading vehicle, and was advised because of the low miles I put on vehicles (under 25,000 miles in 5 years), that I would be better off leasing than buying.  Would appreciate any and all thoughts and things to watch out for when leasing from those of you that have gone this route.  TIA.
Suze Ormon on TV advises to NEVER, EVER lease a car. (NM)

It SHOULD TAKE FOREVER if the person is doing nothing but AMERICAN

dictators and YOU ARE DOING THE OTHER WORK THAT IS LEFT OVER.  FOREVER IS A LONG TIME.

CONSIDER THIS:  Your source and your manager don't like you and are going to let you stew by feeding you information about this Indian person doing all the easy work and letting you pick up the crummy work done by Indian dictators.  And as long as you keep doing this, they have no motivation to change and the Indian MT walks away with your money.

Have a nice day indeed.  Sounds like you have had a rotten couple of months and you are wasting your have a nice day on me.  I'm doing great dictation, picked up a huge bonus this pay period.  Don't waste wishing nice days on me.   I make my own thank you.

got it, DUH. havent typed a Pap in forever.
s
It should work, I have Smartype for DOS, took me forever to - sm
figure it out (tried on and off for a year) but finally got it to work. The Columbia University site has wonderful info. on how to get the DOS programs to work with XP. In the end all I had to do was change a USB setting and my Smartype works fine with my WP5.1; and my systems settings/BIOS have not been compromised because of it. I have PRD too (not on disk though) but have not tried getting it to work but I am sure it is something similar in getting it to work.

I have not picked up a book in forever
I go to the Internet for everything I need to know. Keep in mind that you need to find reference sites that are legit, then the Internet is the way to go. In fact, my books are packed in a box and I have no clue where that box is. The exception to that is my Book of Style, and it is a rare use item, as well.
Unfortunately it is legal..so yes it is business and they will continue with bad business practices

You are correct. Developed by a transcription company, but a division also lease its use to sm

facilities.  I knew that, but had never encountered anyone who works with it in the real world who doesn't not work for the specific company that developed it.  They keep us pretty much in the dark about that stuff.

anyway, when the platform is working well, it is not impossible to make over 300 lph.  350 would be rare, and depend a lot on formatting, what you are paid for and what you are not paid for.

QUITTING MEDICAL TRANSCRIPTION FOREVER

Hello everyone,

I have finally quit medical transription once and for all.  It has been a roller coaster for the last eight years.  I finally found something that is so much better.  I will be making my own hours and deciding exactly how much money I want to make.  I got so tired of begging for enough work.  I was tired of seeing everything going to India.  I also got tired of making less and less money.  This is the only industry where you have to have more and more experience and knowledge, but you do not get paid more for it.  I am just happy that I found an out for myself.  Now, with EMRs there will be very little transcription work left.  I hope the best for all of you!

Take care

Magic Jack is not unlimited forever

The fine print on my Magic Jack indicates that if I use it for more than 20 percent more than the average person (whatever that means), they may discontinue my service.  I am not familiar with the MT jobs that require unlimited phone service or the C-phone, but I imagine that those minutes would add up rather fast.

As far as using the Magic Jack for long-distance calls to family and friends, it seems to work great.  It just doesn't seem like a good choice for MT work, IMHO.

Aw, thanks. I've been in the biz forEVER and in order to learn, you HAVE to be priased...
I know some QA who never do anythnig constructively but for one to learn, you cannot beat them into submission like the Marines do. I had an MT one time who was on 100% review for 6 months. The other QA would complain but I would say to her, 'Fran, you are doing a great job, but you need to remember that it is venous stasis not venoustasis' (not her real name and not a word she necessarily missed) She learned it because I didnt say it nasty. I've had more than my share of bad QA and thats why I know you have to be praised at some point. It is just easier for me to try to help. Kind of like first grade, ya know - if you have a good first grade teacher, you have a desire to learn. If you have a QA that cares, then it is easier for everyone.

Happy New Year and hopefully good QAs all aound!
Ditto, doing 23 minutes of a Dr. I hate right now.....taking forever....well back to it - nm

I made my business your business by posting and...
I totally respect everyone's opinions. It is easier for others on the outside looking in. That's why I pushed the "post reply" button yesterday. I trust my fellow MTs and I know the more I read from you all, the more confident I am becoming. I just need that final push, not from him though. I also wanted to let you all know that the physical abuse while I was pregnant was documented by my doctor and the hospital. I only wish I had known then that it is a felony to abuse a pregnant woman. I also photographed my face from a couple of weeks ago and told several people in my circle. I had such high hopes for us. Now...not so much. I'm not saying that I won't try to get him to church, but I realize that God can only do so much for someone who isn't listening. j
Business is business. Internet forums are
.
For a business ad?! A business that deals
''Transcriptsis'' x2

''with good track record''

''serve our clients of all sizes'' (I know what they mean, but I just think the wording is funny)

''strive to achieve highest possible quality'' (once again, they never met an 'article' that they didn't hate)

''all departments including H&P...'' (or a comma, for that matter)

Is that really any of your business?
I would think that it would be very wrong of you to spread the information you found on Google while searching for the patient's name. Are you 100% certain that it is the exact same person you are transcribing? Even seemingly oddball names can be duplicated and how would you look spreading around gossip? Even if it is court-documented, it really is not your story to tell, IMO. I would love to know who is telling you to put it on the news. That is about the craziest thing I've heard in a while, although quite good for a laugh.
MT business
It depends on how large a business you want.  There are still some small accounts, (10,000 to 18,000 lines) per month that are still on tape that you can get.  Also the digital is not that hard but I will not pay for anyone to transfer my files, I can do that.   I do not have a phone in system but if someone were to ask I would probably start out with the ones that charge so much per minute and use their system until I knew for sure the account was staying.   Where are you located, have you networked with anyone in the area?  Are you set up for tapes as well as digital?  If you start out alone, you have no back-up, you have to do everything.  When you hire I/C's sometimes they are dependable and sometimes not.   You will not earn much off of them if you want to keep your accounts.   You will not be able to charge as high as the larger companies nor go after the larger accounts at first.   It is a fine line as to having enough help and enough work and that is why you hear the complaints all the time, "We have run out of work" as you have no control over how much or when a doctor dictates or if he takes time off.  But would I give it up, probably not as the money is good to me.   You can E-mail me with any specific questions, I have been doing my own small MTSO for over 20 years.   Been through it all, ups, downs, good times, bad times, and everyting in between.   My accounts have been with me from 6 years to 20 years so I feel that they are pretty stable.
Well I am sorry that you are using this business as sm
your excuse, but hospitals pay their people for holidays and if by chance you have to work them, they pay you time and a half.

I do not know why a business owner cannot take these things into consideration when setting up a business. This is a business just like any other business and if you have employees, those employees need to be given the same consideration as any other business. IC status is different, but I find using the nature of this business as an excuse just a little weak.

A good business head would enable you to provide benefits for your employees and if you have already made up your mind it does not, then I think probably it is because maybe you need someone else to do that figuring for you.

I am not being mean in saying these things, but even small business owners I know are able to work it out that a holiday is a holiday (whether you have to work it or not) and an employee needs to be compensated in some manner. To me, there is no excuse for not doing so.
new business
My opinion would be to let them either work at home or at the company.  I prefer to work at home, but some people may not.  As far the pay issue--when I started doing transcription I made .06 cpl and I think that is a fair rate.  Hope I helped
This is really none of my business, and I know that,
but the more I read of your story, the more absurd it becomes to even think of staying with this man.  I'm truly sorry.  I know how hard it is to leave, as I had to that in my former life, and believe me I wanted my marriage to last "til death do us part," but that ain't always possible.  I too TRUST in the Lord with ALL of MY HEART and SOUL, and as I said, sometimes it just ain't possible.  The Lord will guide you through this.  Guess it is just that as an outsider it is easier to see the forest for the trees.
Been there on business
I used to work retail management and my company had a resort there. I have been there several times to meetings and we always had some time to do things. I always enjoyed it and would like to go some day just for pleasure. There is lots to do there.
New business
I have a small transcription company that kind of fell into my lap, luckily.  It has been a year now, we have five girls and are doing a really good job with one large account.  I had tons of experience as a transcriptionist, but never as a business manager, so I took my time.  Now I am looking to get more work.  Anybody have any thoughts as to how to reel them in?
