From one cuban to another
I'm not from Miami, but have lots of family there, and I have to agree with you, especially since everytime I visit, there are more more "non-cuban" stores, people, restaurants, etc. I hate that just cause people hear spanish spoken they just assume its a cuban just cause you're Miami.
Cuban offer
Yeah, but W isn't alone as a world-leader in surrounding himself with Secretarys and admins who are mostly dicks. Actually, I'm surprised Fidel made the offer-unless he's got all the Dr.'s families locked away for "return-receipt" purposes
Cuban Missiles me too!
Your post struck a note so deep inside me. I was in Catholic school in the early 60s and we used to go under the desks for drills too. One day they made us all, the whole school go in the hall and pray the rosary and I thought we were dying that day. I was not really afraid believe it or not.
Ever since that day I've been ready to die. I felt just like you, not wanting to plan for the future because it might not come. Now in my 50s I still have a problem looking to the future. College seemed a waste. I never thought I'd be this old!!!! I wonder how many of us are out there with this attitude. They really did us in back then, didn't they?

I remember the Cuban Missle Crisis, too. - sm
I was about 10. Lots of my friends' parents had build bomb-shelters in their backyards. We didn't have one, but my parents naiively believed that if we were attacked, that we (all 7 of us!) could survive by living in the center hallway of our house. (Guess they didn't see the movies they showed us at school of buildings being vaporized...) I remember thinking I'd rather be a crispy-critter from the A-bomb, than have to live for several weeks or months with my entire family in a hallway! So I was kind've glad we didn't have a bomb-shelter.
So the Big Plan for the family was if we were bombed, I was supposed to walk home from school (getting a nice healthy dose of radiation?), and then we'd all live in our hallway. MY plan, however, was to NOT go home, but instead to just run off and hide in the orange grove nearby, since I figured we were all gonna die anyway, and that way I didn't have to do it with my parents bugging me.... ;D
But having grown up with several-times-weekly 'drop-drills' (getting under our desk was supposed to protect us?) and the constant threat of annihilation, I think ever since then I've had a hard time thinking very far in the future. When I was then I figured I'd never see 15. Was surprised when I made it. 20 was a REAL surprise... how could humanity possibly have survived for 10 long years? And 30, and 40, and so on. Never thought I'd even be an adult, let alone a middle-aged one! So things like going to college (Why? Seemed like a waste of time and money if we were all gonna be wiped out in a few years, anyway), retirement savings, or even a good job, just never made sense to me. So my purpose in life became one of having as much FUN as I could possibly have, 'cause ya just never knew.
Talk about fatalistic... every day when my best friend & I walked to school, when we each parted for our respective classrooms, she'd say, 'If we don't get blow up today, do you wanna play after school?' 'Sure', I'd answer.
Anyway, nowadays when that possibility rears its head as places like Korea, India, Iraq, etc. develop nuclear capabilities, at least I've gotten used to the idea of pretty much living one day at a time.
Probably just like accounts in Miami Florida. Wouldn't you think? Cuban, Mexican, you name it.
Good luck!

They're all self-explanatory. The English (from England) speak this way. "This young chap was involved in a fisticuff a fortnight ago full stop." You can't really change too much, but what it means is this young man was involved in a fight (or altercation) two weeks ago (period). Jeez! Full stop means period, it gets on your nerves after two pages of it! Type it like he dictates it and add the period after every "full stop." Period.
