I work on a particularly difficult account, and my supervisor asked me which physicians I would prefer to type and which I would not and she would allocate me only those MDs I chose to type. Although I refused her, saying this was not fair to my fellow MTs, I am sure there are those that took her up on her offer.
Don't most applications ask for instance if you have
been convicted of a felony in the last 5 years or 10 years? I do not remember but most of them have a time period on them. I do not think they say have you ever been convicted of a felony. If it is 5 years you are okay. If it is 10, you are just under that. Have you been told that you were turned down because of the felony because I know people who have gotten jobs without problems even though they are felons.

My hsp brought back their work into the hsp 4 years ago because work was so bad. The dept is growing. We are taking on local accounts. Soon they are going to have to start hiring because of explosive growth of work. We work on production from home with full benefits. All is not lost, but I agree things look grim in the overall.
In this instance, I would charge per report.
Call me a cynic, but I trust no one! If you charge per report, it's cut and dried. You don't have to worry how they are figuring lines and they don't have to worry how you are figuring lines. And it will be easier for you to keep track of the number of reports you do in a day versus manually counting your lines at the end of every day.

the benefit of doubt in their favor, although I am not defending them in any way, shape or form.
I would think just the contrary: Withholding or denying you work hurts them as well, since they lose payment for your work from their clients. More importantly, witholding work from the MT highly INCREASES the likelihood that the MT will file for UE to begin with - a no-win situation for them. First, they lose income you could be earning them from their clients if you did have more work, not to mention having to pay into part of your benefits.
Having said that, it benefits them if you did have more work as it might relate to getting UE - more income for THEM if they give you adequate work - but mainly, it would decrease the likelihood that you'd be filing for UE in the first place.
At our company, errors are weighted. For instance...
a simple "a" instead of "an" would only be a 0.5 error, whereas an incorrect medication or such that could directly impact patient care would be 2.0. No errors are more than 2.0, and we do not deduct for blanks etc.

Go to SSA.gov and research the payee options. You may have to use the search engine, but your answer to this particular issue should be there.
I am disabled and while my kids were minors, I had to fill out a form each year on how I, as the payee spent each and every penny of the money they received. I don't see how his mother can justify how she spent his money for things that you normally would pay.
That said, he is getting Social Security right? Is your son receiving a dependent check? Under law, if a parent is disabled and has minor children, each and every one of those children also receive a check until they turn 18 or graduate from high school, which ever comes first.
The check is a percentage of your husbands, so for 800.00, your son should receive at least 350.00. If you have not been getting this, they would pro-rate it back to when your husbands disability started and that in itself, could solve a lot of your financial problems. i was on wildblue. i absolutely HATED it. i paid $400 for install and equipment and bill was $51.51 a month for smallest plan. no bills, had to be direct debit from credit card or bank. wasn't a lot faster than dial up and i frequently went over my download limit so i had to upgrade to the $80/mo plan. speed was no faster on their "fastest plan". they had a 1-yr contract and only 1-yr warranty. well 20 days (kid you not) out of warranty my tria (the eye on the dish) went out and it cost me a total of $275 for replacement and tech call (had to wait a week and a half before tech could come and then he no showed and rescheduled for the next day stating he didn't have the equipment he needed to fix me and the repair order had been in for over a week by that time. no call to say he wasn't coming either, just no showed). they TRIED to sell me the entire package all over again to get me locked into another 1-yr contract and i declined. it was best in their book so your warranty and equipment would be "new". i had to tell them for 5 months to change which credit card to debit from, never could get it right. had to tell them for 3 months when my phone number changed. i could not wait until the day my 1-yr contract was over. have heard really good things about hughesnet. i think it is a tad more a month, but supposedly a lot faster than wildblue and not near as many problems from what i have heard from others. wildblue was down for an entire week at one point throughout the year i was on it. always got lost signals and page cannot be found multiple, multiple times throughout the day. i used wildblue with VPN (with transtech) and could not keep a connection enough to get a decent line count as i was dropping signals too much and it did slow it way down. i finally got clinic work rather than acute care where time and speed wasn't a factor. research message boards for complaints about wildblue and hughesnet before deciding. also hughesnet i think told me a 2-yr warranty rather than only the 1-yr with wildblue.

I just had one who couldn't
pronounce the simplest word, like catheter. He does cardiac caths all day every day, and can't even pronounce the simplest terms for his specialty! They shouldn't be able to graduate like that.

I'm among the 200-odd people who visit every day but don't wanna post because, well, it just doesn't seem right. But, seeing as I saw my name in black and white up on the screen, I just couldn't stop my fingers from typing.
I wicked miss all the jibber jabber, work related and nonwork related. I miss the usual faces, the usual arguments, the good times, the bad times, the times when I swore some people were on the rag...
I too got privately disciplined by the former MTStars staff for my potty mouth, got mean e-mails from people who called me a hick, and got awesome e-mails from some great people out there...and I miss it! All of it! The good, the bad, and the ugly.
We had our little domain name "stolen" a few years ago when we didn't renew it in a timely manner, so I kinda know what it's like. Except ours wasn't a business, just a place where friends and family that we left behind could see what we were up to. The web host kept all our hard work and wouldn't relinquish it because they claimed it was technically theirs...I'm not 100% sure, as I'm not the technical person of the household, but I know that basically we had to start from scratch. You kinda feel violated in a weird way.
I'll keep checking for the "other" MTStars to see if it's back up and running, but for now I'll just hang out here and wait. My personal stuff is all over cyberspace, so I'm not concerned about identity theft or anything like that. Who in Sam Hain would want my life anyway?!

I was offered a job managing an office that sent all the work to the Philippines. I couldn't bring myself to do it. The manager job from the other board (if that's the one you're referring to)sends their work to India. As tough as times are now, I could not bring myself to take jobs away from American MTs even if it meant a decent paying job for me. Still hoping Obama will tax the heck out of these companies that offshore, but not holding my breath.

Those are exactly my thoughts. Didn't work for Spheris or Medquist, but did work for Heartland before MDI. I am so happy I came to MDI. I am sure they are not perfect, but I think they are better than a lot out there.

I think if they had I probably would have tried every different toy bar for the bouncy seat or swing until something worked. Something comfy for her to lay against maybe. If nothing works and you can't manage typing and holding her then adjusting your schedule for when your husband is there would be my only thought. Good luck. I've been doing this for 17 years, and I shouldn't have to have a knack for understanding what someone is trying to say just because they are too self-centered to realize they are accomplishing nothing in terms of saving time by talking so poorly and so fast that most people can't even understand what they are trying to say. The whole point of talking is to express thought and communicate. If you aren't going to take the time or make the effort to be understandable, what's the point in even opening your mouth? These doctors have no business sacrificing the efficacy of communication while dictating highly technical medical and legal documents that affect the health and welfare of the patient population. And speaking of rendering excellent care, providing accurate and intelligible documentation of the care that has been provided is part of that so-called excellence. It's part of the service patients are paying for and wouldn't be getting if it were simply left up to these inconsiderate physicians. If I could, I'd slap every one of them up side the head.
No offense, but couldn't you have used
of your own? You could get one from another company, I'm sure, but would it reflect the information you need to know?
For example, if you need orthopedic MTs versus ophthalmologic MTs, asking which is correct in Tenon versus tenon or sub-Tenon verus subtenon would be important and might not be on a test you pull from someone else.
I could be wrong, but I'm wondering if you haven't had to do much testing personally that you wouldn't know what you would want in your own test??

let me get this straight - you spent 5 years in college, are an engineer and because you can type fast you want to get into a field where you might make 20,000 the first year - but it is rather laughable that you think typing is all that is required here - when most of us who have been doing this for 20-30 years are doing good to make 30-40,000 a year and are afraid that we won't be needed much longer because of computer (as an engineer you surely are familiar with them) technologies such as speech recognition and offshoring to India where the work is cheaper. Now after you finish training - which you will need - a lot of us will already be out of jobs - do you really think this is a viable option for you?
