has anyone ever used open office to download word so a test can be taken? I rent a computer from my company and I know I probably should not do this. My question is would they know if this is being done? Thank you.

What is the best anti-virus program for Vista?
As you know if you have Vista, it has a pretty good security system built right in, the Windows firewall and Defender antispyware. Is it necessary to go with a antivirus program with this system? Have never had good luck with them. Years back my computer crashed and it slowed it way down and actually brought more bad on board than did any good. What is a good one that is cheap or free and uses very little system reserves? I know this is kind of a technical question but any feedback would be appreciated.

PRD is a DOS program. I don't think it work with Word, a Window's program.

VIsta - What will it do to MT work?
Vista is coming out at the end of the week. Is it going to cause MTs computer problems? What is the techs telling all of the MTs out there about whether it will work with company platforms?
I cannot use Vista to work, so that is definitely out. What

It is a proprietary program developed by the company. No, very few sm
people do over 300 lph. Most top out at a little over 200, if that, a lot at around 150 lph. It is not the platform's fault. It is decent. It is up to the transcriptionist. ASR is a huge part of this platform now, and will become more as days go by.
What line counting program did the company
You may want to check with them first before posting who they are and what platform to people asking on this board. If it is an MT platform the company uses, their tech people may be able to help you figure that out. 
You need to know the program your company is using to count so you can compare.

Don't know what you consider "not too much money," but this is a piece of your arsenal you don't want to skimp on. You should get the absolute best you can afford -- if you put the time and energy into making the software work for you, it will for itself in no time.
Word 97 thru 2007 all work fine on Vista.

I know of a company who is restarting up their mentoring program for newly-graduated MTs. A GREAT
company to work for - I think they are independent contractor status, though not sure about their mentoring program status. At any rate, they are willing to take new grads and help them transition into actually working! The women who owns the company is truly wonderful. I have been blessed to have had the opportunity to work with her, though I don't at the moment. The company is Accu-Stat in Wisconsin! Keep that name somewhere on a sticky or something! Really great people, and she did mention that she really wants to restart this program she used to have for newbies! Blessings to you and good luck! Have fun! Cause it sure can be fun, while having to work, which, of course, is not fun in and of itself, huh?? Oh, to be independently wealthy. Congrats on your new baby, by the way!! And that's SO great that your Mom is there for you! You have a good example to follow! 
You don't want to work for this company. Call your current company and
tell them that you have decided against the new position and tell them that you would like to stay. It is cheaper for them to let you stay than to train someone new. A company who could be so tacky as the one you just spoke of is one you do not want to work for. You can rescind your resignation. If you are a good MT, they will be glad you did.
You do need a FTP program though so you can get your work - sm
forgot about that, but that is not a large expenditure, think I paid $30 for mine though that was about 8 years ago (I do web work to for my old, old job now and then).

I know this is a legal question but just curious as to individual experience.
Briefly, I know someone who will be filing for a divorce. In the meantime, she bought another house (out of state). She is hoping that her future ex-hubby does not find out so he does not get 1/2 ownership. etc. It is my understanding that LEGALLY she MUST hand over ALL financial documentation up front for the attorneys. Her banker told her it was not necessary? (I question his integrity)Personally, I think she's nuts and could get into a lot of trouble. Thanks everyone.
Because DOS was much faster program to work in
and was easier to do everything. Windows based operations are much slower.

Technical support person for your company contact you and that person should be able to remote into your PC and fix what the problem is. You shouldn't have to go spend money to get this fixed.
I know that is what my company does and if they can find no remedy then and only then would I take it in for service.

I know someone who worked like this because work was so low whenever he did not work a full week/so many hours, he got unemployment. Sounded great to me so I checked into it but did not qualify...
wouldn't it be a great option, especially for those companies who do not guarantee full-time hours (yet who expect you to commit your life and soul to them).

I have worked with people who have requested
to be off certain accounts because of their religious beliefs and not wanting to transcribes procedures they were not comfortable doing, but not because the doctors were too hard.
I personally have almost 30 years in this business and still have trouble with certain docs, but others do them without problem. There is almost always 1 or 2 doctors on an account that nobody wants to do for variosu reasons, but I just stick it out and believe that it will make and has made be a better MT in the long run.
TASP recommendations requested
Can any IC's recommend a really inexpensive, easy to set up TASP that offers digital and phone? I have used Emdat and like it, but it is expensive. I have used Bayscribe and love it, but their spellchecker is worthless. Something that works with MS Word would be great. Recommendations?

PRD is a dos-based program, will not work in Word.
It is a great program, wish it would, but you might have to look at something like Shorthand. Same with Stedman's. It is a Windows installation, not a copy/paste like the old dos programs (WP, etc.)
Any program will work if you stick with it and it's NOT what you're doing right now. nm

When you program the foot pedal, you need to program it as 3 foot pedals..one for back, one for play and one for forward.
