I have worked with Cisco VPN
for about 3 years now. It is simply a small software program that securely connects you to the hospital's server. It has nothing to do with your transcribing platform whatsoever. It is kind of like a gatekeeper. If you cannot successfully logon to the VPN, you cannot access the hospital server to transcribe. Some VPNs require not only a user specific name and password but also a secure ID number. This is provided via a little card (about the size of a credit card) that displays a series of 6 numbers that automatically changes every 20 seconds or so. The hospital will provide this. VPNs are for hospitals who take their security very seriously. Once the software is downloaded onto your system and configured, however, using the VPN is very quick and easy. You only do it once at the beginning of your shift and then you log out at the end. Hope this helps!
Agree with Cisco's Linksys
I bought a wireless G one on sale for $59 at Radio Shack and it works great. I didn't program it. I just plug it in when I want WIFI and it works great. It also stacks very nicely on my Cisco Ethernet Router.
