although expensive, not as bad as private adoption. Still, a long wait, we were told.

Be sure to check your local emergency services regarding 9-1-1 sm
Just saw a news story that 9-1-1 is not set up yet on these systems to pull up the home address with the phone call. Just an FYI.
Not sure, I have deductions for federal income tax, SS tax, Medicare tax, and state income tax. ???

Work for a company in a state that has no state income tax
I think there are 3 or 4 out there (Florida, Texas, and a few others.) Then you really avoid the tax situation.
Buy local. The local stores pay taxes to support your city and state. (SM)
Using online and catalogues does nothing to promote the local economy. We complain about outsourcing and about the big companies gobbling up all the work so the jobs at local hospitals are gone, yet we do the same thing when we buy on ebay, catalog, and these web sites that may be located any place in the world as their primary business location.
Go to NBC10.com - Our local news has "Wednesday's Child" which is a child for adoption.
Every Wednesday they introduce a child who needs a home and a family. There should be some information there as these kids are up for adoption.

Hope that helps!

I figure income minus expenses, send 23% for federal and 7.5% to state--sm
quarterly. The state probably differs state to state, but that is the percentile my accountant came up with. Have never had to pay and additional.
Sounds like your hubs needs a reality check. Is your income

Local hospital and state sponsored class. (see message)
This was way back in 1980-81 (age 19) in a pretty small town. Our local hospital in cooperation with state funding had 3 different programs: Medical Secretary (note--not transcriptionist) which was an 8-month program, as well as Respiratory Therapist and LPN, which were both 2 years if I recall correctly.
The cost was about $300 (my parents paid) and included ALL materials (books, paper and pencils) for classes 8 hours per day, M-F, from Sept thru May. The classes consisted of anatomy/physiology, medical terminology, typing and transcribing, English, accounting, and general office practices, all, in 1 room with about 10-12 students in the entire program.
The last month was spent doing 1 week of practicum for 4 weeks. We could pick just about any situation we wanted and as long as there was approval by those "offices," it was all right. I did 1 week in that hospital's pathology dept (transcribing, charting, answering phones--almost got to see an autopsy but was a burn victim, so couldn't); 1 week in another town's hospital MR dept (spending a day or so in each subsection--MT, coding, filing, etc); 1 week our local area's cancer treatment center (again, in each MR subsection), and the final week at our area's tumor registry. I felt sorry for the 2 girls in the latter; they had ARTs (don't even know if that still exists as a 2-year associate's degree for "accredited records technician"), and all they did was file cards all day long.
After that, we graduated with a "Certified Medical Secretary" certificate and pin. I've been an MT ever since, working inhouse (both hospitals and service office for 10 years) and now at home for the past 17 years.
Check with your local phone company....sm
More and more phone companies are offering fast access DSL which works through your phone line. Satellite is very expensive and often has problems when there are storms. I had cable which also goes down practically every time it rains. I just got Bell South Xtreme DSL. I can't believe how fast it is. AND I got a wireless network router so if I have 1 computer or 20... no extra charge. All this for about $50.00 a month.
Check out your local community college -SM
I can't speak for all of them, but the one I went to offered externship programs and job placements for their best and brightest students. An acquaintenance of mine also got her MT training at a local college, and they did the same thing. Be careful, however, of the online courses. They cost a lot of money - much, much more than your local college, and you won't get the hands-on training or be able to get your questions answered in a flash with them as you would in an actual college setting. Also, an associate's degree at a college is much more impressive than admitting you received your training via an online course. That, to me, just sounds so "fly by night."
check out state
Maybe check out state or federal jobs. That is how I started. I was hired with absolutely no experience to work in a clinic for the state. They then sent me to a local college at night and paid for my education. MQ used to hire from transcription schools. I dont know if they still do. I think I read also where Encompass does. I know Chronicle Transcripts used to as I worked there as lead transcriptionist and used to help train newbies. Good luck!
Check your state
If you do a blind health insurance quote for your state- you should have companies that will come up to browse for insurance cost/premiums. My DH and I couldn't afford insurance through my last job because I would have been out of network, and the cost was so extreme regardless just for me, so I got individual health coverage through HealthPartners in MN. Make sure it is a health insurance, and not a health discount program. Now we pay $277.00/month for both of us - at $750 deductible.
Check your local police station, that'd be the place to look.
I bet they don't outsource that.....or do they? Interesting.
What state are you in -- that you received the check already?
No check here, but does show up in ipay.
What does the attached letter say?
also, check out the laws in your state (sm)
regarding how the landlord should handle your deposit during the time you rented from them. In my state, it must be kept in an escrow account, and the landlord must show proof of this. Also, landlords are liable for lots of routine maintenance on the house/apartment while it is rented. For example, landlords are responsible for painting, replacing miniblinds, cleaning carpets, etc every four years, in the state of Georgia.
Go online and check it out...you could get your money back, plus some! Good Luck!
Check with state and city
Portland has just decided to require all all I/C's have a business license. Also check with your state to register your business name so you can put it on your checking account, etc. It does cost but if you are a business and run it as a business you pay the the business costs as well as reaping the awards of the tax write off's. But you need to check with your state and city for requirements.
You will need to check your state overtime
laws. In mine (Kentucky) if you work 2 Sundays in a row without a day off, the 2nd Sunday is automatic overtime, no matter if you have 40 hours in for that week or not. Need to check state laws and then with your MTSO. If it is overtime, then they probably would not go for that.
Check with your city and state.
I only found out about the license because the city came by asking me questions about my neighbors running a business out of their home for their investigation. They got caught and had huge fines. I now make sure to stay current on my licenses!
Check around your local area for clinics or transcription companies
That's what I did. I first started out working for a very small MTSO and worked at their office for a couple of weeks and then they moved me home and I started working on a single speciality account. I'm still working for the office after 5 years (altough the MTSO closed her business).
Or maybe check with your state's labor department?
?
Thanks for all the info. I will check and see what my State requires(nm)
xx
Must check your state labor laws
This is what most of them follow is whatever state you live in. I live in a state where you have to get 40 hrs before you can hit OT. No OT for more than an 8-hour day.
But of course, I also live in a state that has $1.95 as its minimum wage still!
Check with your state's Labor Board on #2
.
check state certification requirements
Make sure you check not only how much a program may cost you, but what your state requirements are. I'm in Utah and we are required to pass a state exam to be licensed to practice. There is also a national exam that is supposedly good if you take it, but is get pricey. I took the course locally with a program that included an internship. I personally found the career boring and it didn't pay well enough for me to pursue it, but every state has different pay scales so check into it.
You should have a leg up because you do have to learn and memorize a lot of drug names and what they are for. Also, make sure your basic math skills are good. Mine stunk, so make sure you can remember how to add, subtract, multiply, and divide fractions and decimals. Good luck!!!
It all depends on what state you live in and what their laws and requirements are. Check with your

Not everyone who follows the Bible is Catholic!!!
I wouldn't know about that. I'm not a priest nor do I have one.
When 19 my roommate got pregnant...she was Catholic but - sm
and went to church on Sunday, etc., had guys use condoms, though 1 x did not only because she was trashed at the time and he forced himself on her (per her story). We discussed her options and both of us firmly believed that abortion was the best option as having it and keeping it was not feasible as (1) the guy denied it was his, though that could have been easily disproved, (2) her parents would have had a cow, (3) she did not want her whole life turned upsided down (yes selfish but at 19 that is the way it is). So a few of us got up the cash ($200), I borrowed a car from someone and drove her to the clinic about an hour or so from our school. Personally I think it was the right decision, but then again I am pro-choice/abortion. I don't agree with people who use it as a form of BC though (i.e. multiple abortions). If I got pregnant now (40) my husband (so he says) would push for an abortion, though at this stage in my life I would have a hard time making that choice and adoption would not be an option either....BUT at 19 I'd do it in a heartbeat. I had a scar in college too, I was a month late, using condoms and a diaphragm....luckily I was not pregnant just stressed out apparently. You cannot make the decision for her. You can point out options and pros and cons and possible later life ramifications, but I doubt it will do any good. My roommate married a few years after we graduated and was very firm in her decision never to have children as she just doesn't want them, to this day she has no children by choice. But your niece will need to learn to be more resposible. If she does not want to take the pill, which is so easy to do and remember (bogus excuse), she better carry condoms with her....plus if she is not careful and sleeps around a lot then she will, I guarantee, get herpes or another STD before she gets out of college. Ask her if she wants that or HIV, maybe she will get to thinking. Who knows.
Line-based vs. hour-based requirement
Hospitals do have an hourly requirement, and generally incentive after a certain line level. MQ only has a line based requirement, which is 12,000 per pay period. The hourly requirement is strange, unless they now plan to convert to an hourly pay plan?
Adoption
Hey all. My husband and I are going to the orientation with the Georgia DFCS to possibly begin the process of adoption through the foster care system. I would really love a younger child, but I hear the wait is very long if you get a match at all. I understand there are many children with special needs, but I cared for a cousin (all her 24 years with spina bifida) and a grandfather (with Huntington's), who both passed away in the last two years, and I don't know if I could handle that kind of situation again. From what I've seen, private agencies, even those not for profit, seem ridiculously expensive, and the wait for an infant/toddler is also long with them. We have plenty of love to give and a decent family income, but not a lot of money all at once like they expect. If anyone has experience with adoption through their state agency or foster care system, or even those who know of honest agencies with reasonable fees, I'd appreciate any advice or encouragement. Anyone have happily-ever-after stories to tell? Thanks!
mine was $70 for adoption--sm
which included some shots, but since mine was too little and/or young to have neutered at time of adoption, I had to pay $100 deposit as a guarantee that I would have her neutered when the time came. I used one of their afiliate vets and total cost, with booster shots, rabies and distemper vaccines, and having to have her de-wormed, as she came home from the shelter with worms, and the neutering, was over $240. So, with the original $70 adoption fee, the $100 deposit for guaranteeing to be neutered, and the $240 vet fee, it came to a whopping $420 for my little girl! I did get the $100 deposit back, but it took six months to get it back and having to *prove* from the vet that I actually had her neutered. Kind of expensive, I would say, but I love her to death...she is my *baby girl* and worth every penny. I guess every shelter is different in their fees, and so are vets.
Religion board/Catholic is full of printed material!!!
Whoa
Really wish I had the baby and gave it up for adoption (sm)
It seemed like the right decision at the time, but the nine months would have passed so quickly and now that baby would be alive, somewhere, hopefully having a great life. It made me fear for the first several years of my two living children's lives that they were going to be taken from me as punishment. I picture the child that would have been at different ages.
Maybe he means adoption, but probably is just a misspeak. nm

Fees
I would not be tax deductible per se. You would not receive the money, therefore it would not be income.
Fees
Actually, the fees are deducted from the income, but you never see it because it is deducted. I'm pretty sure it would be tax deductible. Again, I am not justifying the existence of the fee.
Rental Fees
I noticed that several companies are charging their employees rental fees for equipment/software. If one was in-house, they would not have to pay a rental fee. How are these companies getting away with this? Why would you, an employee, agree to pay for their equipment? The only time you should pay a rental fee is if you are an independent contractor. As an employee, you do not pay to work for the employer, they pay you!
I am just amazed that companies are actually charging their employees to work for them!
late fees
My business attorney told me I could really charge whatever I wanted - BUT - it had to be put as a disclaimer on the bottom of every billing you send them-- that is their "notice" -- you can't just charge them without warning them. I charge 5% of total billing. Mine reads something like "late fee of 5% will be charged if invoice is not paid within 10 calendar days." Be careful on the verbage of calendar days versus business days. And don't be afraid to charge it or defend it -- every other vendor they have is charging it!!
need help with fees - digital
I can get a new contract but will do the work digital. I have only worked as IC the old fashion way - tapes and picking up, printing and delivery. I will now do everything through e-mail and a C-phone. The office manager is trying to squeeze me for a good price, telling me she has somebody willing to do the workload for 6c/pl and she says its characters only, no spaces etc. Their previous lady did the transcription for a fixed amount per month but this sounds really screwed up. Any help or suggestions on what I need to think about regarding charges etc? I now get $3 a page and that includes my driving etc. I am happy that I would save gas and time but don't want to work for free either. My $3 a page figures to about 11cpl when I checked.
definitely charge fees if you do that
high ones... they don't want you to do it for free, do they?
I sympathize.. $100 an hour... what a job
Monthly fees
May I ask which carrier this is through? I have ATT and to use my laptop I can hook it up through my phone with a USB cable but in order to get on the internet I would have to buy the data package for $59.99 a month. Thanks, we do a lot of traveling in the summer.
Any IC charge late fees? Please advise.
I have been contracted with a hospital for almost 13 years and never had a problem with getting paid every two weeks. I email my invoice on Monday and receive check via mail by Thursday or Friday. Within the last three years I have had a little trouble, not often, but usually critical times for me, with receiving payment during that time. Does anyone charge a late fee and if so, do they pay it? I thought about putting at the bottom of my invoice "Payment is due within 5 days or a late fee of $ will be charged.
THEIR pro wages paid with membership fees.
x
I doubt it, though they will sock you with late fees and expect - sm
both your Feb. 1 and March 1 payment at the same time. You could pay the one by March 1 and use the 15 day grace period and pay the March 1 payment by the 15th (along with late fees from the previous late payment) to get square again. I have to use the 15 day period now and then, hate to do it, but it does not hurt anything.
I went local. Great local tech support, they know what I do and were able to set it up just for me
:)
I just started using "mydocsonline" - no extra fees unlike the one advertising above this - sm
Simple to use to, I only have 2 users so $99 for a year which is half the cost of most of the others, and HIPAA compliant, etc. Not sure how cost effective if you have a lot of doctors though, but I like the fact they give you so much space a month, you can save/delete whatever you want to do, no extra charges/mb or kb--metroscript is 14.95 a month (or more) and .34/megabyte of each upload, I would have ended up paying about $120 a month, forget that! I tried the free trial of mydocsonline and it works well for me.
If you're talking about MetroScript, I didn't find that they had any extra fees (sm)
They pretty much only charge you for what you use. I only pay $14.99 per month and it works great for me.
