I am just throwing in my two cents worth here. When I first started doing IC work, the company I worked for NEVER sent me a 1099. I made between 10 and 15k the first year part time, and I still reported it. It was my income that the IRS was concerned with, not whether I received a 1099 or not. What the company did as far as reporting paying an IC, I have no idea. That is their business.

are being made for this so-called "leader." Don't understand what it is about the stupidest, murderous, lack of vision president we have ever had that gets such "rave reviews" from people. I see nothing in this administration that will get us out of this mess he made, no leadership, no statesmenship, no understanding of other peoples in the world, a complete lack of foresight!

You can work anywhere if IC. You can be home with kids if IC. You did not need to retire. Or did the idea of retirement seem like nice break from work til you realized you couldnt afford it and then it was too late. Kids are excuse to retire, they are reason need to work for sure.

simple. Don't like it now. Never have. Don't have to stay, can make it on my own. I've done it before and could do it again. However, I choose to stay. I'm not giving up on him. He's an alcoholic and I'm a teetotaler. Don't like drinking, never have, never will. Love him, always have, always will.

Anybody started their 2005 taxes yet? How many W-2s or 1099s
will you be getting? Seven for me. I hope they're all here within a reasonable amount of time. My taxes are going to be difficult to do this year as we have a lot of itemized deductions we can take.
You wouldn't believe the excuses we hear, so I think it makes us cynical even when sm
we don't want to be. We have had MTs lie about their mothers dying, husbands dying, even had two that had relatives notify that they themselves had died, all of which were not true.
We get told that someone was in an accident (find out later it was a lie), told that someone's dog had to be put to sleep (felt bad but found out they never had a dog), even told that their father died. She forgot that she used that one the previous year too.
We have had heard about severe storms with power outages when the MT did not know that another MT lives 2 blocks away and told us of sunshine when we asked how she was working through the storm.
We have been told that someone's husband was being deployed, when the truth is that he was not even in the service.
We have been told that an MT's husband beat her up and that she was at the ER right at that moment, but caller ID said that she was calling from home. When questioned, she explained about the "glitch" with caller ID being mixed up IN THE ENTIRE CITY OF SEATTLE.

Question about duplicate 1099s (Same amount - different companies)
I received a 1099 from a business I've never heard of, but the amount was just about right for a company I subcontract for. I asked them if my 1099 would be coming under this other ame and they said no, which made it sound like they didn't even know that company. I proceeded to research the name and found out that the same owner owns both companies with the business on my 1099 now dissolved and in poor standing. I'm confused as to why this happened and requested that my 1099 come from the company I did the work for. They said that is fine and that they would reissue it with that name.
How does this work with the IRS now that they will have two 1099s for me with the same amount, but from different companies. I can only claim one as that is how much I worked, but won't they audit me or something because of this. The business owner said not to worry about. I should probably put a call into my tax man, but was wondering if anyone here has any knowledge with anything like this. It just doesn't seem right and makes me uncomfortable.

I am waiting for an internship, I have given up trying to find a job! I decided that everyone is right, you have to do the internship or mentoring program and that is the way to go!!! I think it is the way to get my foot in the door so to speak. Thank you for all who have given me good advice. I think this is the way to go! There is no other way to go, that is my belief anyway...

Wouldn't it be fabulous if all of us young chicks in our 50s formed our own business together? I don't know what business it would be, but we'd sure have fun! I think we should all audition for Deal or No Deal, and whichever one wins, we split the winnings between us. Wouldn't that be a gas?

I have 25 years experience and have been posting on this site and one other..I want to be able to start PT and then when my full-time job stops Radiology Overtime, then I'll be free to do more at home. Is it the economy? I love being at home and dread having to pound the pavement and work somewhere at night!
Funny! Mine is almost as large, and I don't mind cleaning mine!
It's no problem at all. Besides, I'll take lots of oodles of square footage any day of the week over living in a sardine can!

for short term to see which is really the one you want. Ya never can tell. If need be, be up front with current employer, tell them you want to be fair and say working both places to SEE rather than just quit them.
I am not sure about the waiting lists here yet,
but I do know that the program only takes so many students. That will probably be another thing I will have to factor in too. Great tip on taking the electives while waiting though. I am only going for the associate's degree as well. Are you interested in going into psych too?

just curious - who do you work for?
Been waiting 3 months
for an Illinois company to pay me the one and only invoice I sent them. Have sent emails so that everything is in writing. I have called and left message, but she's not in and doesn't call back. Excuses have been that client not billed, I'm been sick, will send next week, etc. Filed a complaint with Better Business Bureau, but they cannot help in matter. Talked to Labor Board, but they cannot help because I was a contractor, and they suggested I get a lawyer. I am now in process of writing a demand letter and then will file small claim lawsuit. I began asking for payment since 10 days after invoice and still nothing!
Only worked for them for a week because I knew it wasn't going to work out, so I think this is MTSO messing with me because they are ticked off. I thought of billing client I did work for just to embarrass her!

do you have kids stay up late just to see mars... oh!! my poor little girl waited for this planet since the start of august, and she is hoping to see it tonight or tomorrow as big as moon. she even marked it on the calendar... and what's funny about it is that we have never spoted the mars... not once. grrrrr!!!!
Many years ago, I was in a waiting room
with a group of men waiting for interviews for the same job. After about 15 minutes of very cold, snarled stares from them, one of them spoke up and told me I should go home, that they had a family to support and I had no business there taking jobs from them. I guess it didn't matter to him that I was a divorced mother with 2 children of my own to support and that even if I had no one to support and was a billionaire, it was my right to be there for that job interview as much as his.
I stayed and went through the interview process. I didn't get the job; I don't think that man (just cannot bring myself to call him a gentleman) did either as he was not the manager I dealt with later in that office.
It really burned me that men would have that attitude toward women. It started a slow change in my perspective on the gender differences, equal rights for women, etc.

Another day of waiting endlessly for work
But come Thursday and throughout the entire weekend wil come a stream of e-mails saying there is work now for us to make up our lines!!! Are we to be available 24/7 at these places? Does ANY company hire enough people and have enough work for those of us who actually WANT to work at a steady pace? Anyone? Really tired of this. I am a very dedictated MT.

Congratulations! I am waiting on kittens....
I live in the country, some neighbors moved and left 7 cats, one being female, who is pregnant. Poor little thing only has one eye, but she sure is cute! Have taken her in to show her a bit of TLC, now the wait for her brood! They will all be neutered in the next 2 weeks and she will be spayed after her kittens are here. One good thing though, we have no mice!

You should disable call-waiting because if you are....
doing a low-speaking doc and have the volume up high, you'll blow your ear drums out. On the other hand, if that is your only line, what if someone from work needs to get in touch with you? As far as losing the job you're working on, it would depend on how the system is set up and whether or not the work is assigned to you or in a pool. I'm not sure if the phone has a "hold" button or not. It's been a while since I used one but I had 2 lines so it wasn't a problem. Good luck.
It is best to disable the call waiting
so you have less interruptions as it can be annoying but I don't think it will mess up the dictation. Also, may want to look into getting voice mail through phone company rather than your own answering machine if you don't already have that so you don't miss any important calls. My set up is such that all unanswered calls go to voice mail.

I right clicked and dragged a file from my desktop into ExpressScribe but it played back very distorted. Just wondering if there was a better way to do it.
I get tired of waiting for my check
I work because I need the money. Companies hire you because they need the money. All I am asking for is to be paid on time... Not 1, 2, or 3 days later due to our postal service. Mail the check earlier. I promise I will not deposit it until my scheduled pay day. Receiving a check in the mail on a weekend does not help me if my bank is not open. My creditors do not want to hear " I am waiting on my money before I can send you yours". Please.....
