I pay $292 for just myself with a $750 deductible. After the first year, they will pay for pre-existing. I hated mine at first, but I'm used to it now and it's coverage that will protect me. Thankfully, I make enough money that it's working out well for me. Check out the link below. They may have affordable insurance that will help you as well. A friend of mine is considering this. In some states, they cannot make you take out these insurance policies unless you want them or unless you don't have insurance on something that might be collateral for your loan (i.e. an automobile). Are you saying the insurance alone was $2000+ or the entire balance? That question is really NOMB, but I ask because if it is simply the insurance premium cost, I would think you could find such at a much less expensive rate going with a private insurer. I'm an IC and I have disability as well as $250,000 of life insurance on me and the DH and $50,000 on the three kids and I don't pay $2000 per year for all of that. If they coerced you into taking out these policies, you should be able to cancel them. In my state, I have three business days to cancel a contact or any part thereof. Check with your state insurance commissioner's office. Good luck.

One company I know had a reputation of having a test on line that a lot of people were not passing. The recruiter (maybe?) finally jumped on the boards asking people to email to verify their test scores because there may have been a glitch or something. I'd tell them I just want to double check. Can't hurt to ask. Maybe someone overlooked something?

Criminal background checks just verify that you are who you are for the most part. I do them for
a company and believe me, it is only checking that your SSN is yours. It is not a credit check or anything else. If you don't like it, don't work for a company that does it. I did it and I don't care. I have nothing to hide. You have to give the companies your SSN anyhow if you work for them, so to me there is no big deal. You might miss out on a good company by not doing them though.

I was free...Do you think I'd be on their infamous REHIRE list??

I was skeptical above when I read the responses to "How much have you made so far with the year half over". Awfully amazing how much money they claim (maybe overestimate) they make -- equivalent of full-time income with how much time they take off for their kids or "life". There was an allusion to the truth about the MT who said she is a second paycheck to her husband MBA. But I suspect you are the honest one, stating that it isn't the money. It certainly isn't the virtually non-existent benefits.

you have power from your longevity that they feel threatened by. The administrator may feel glad that you are leaving so they can finally gain more personal control.
This does not mean you should feel bad, though. Change is good, so you have everything to gain, but so do they. I would not begrudge them the feeling, though. I always try to wish the best for those that I leave behind.

$13/hr is ridiculously low. I suspect SM
it's some program where they get you cheaply, sharpen your skills by giving feedback on your work (mentoring) and then turn you loose. Industry standard is around 150 lines per hour. If you did that, that's a little over 8.5 cpl. BUT if you type 175 lines an hour for $13/hr, you are typing for a little under 7.5 cpl. As you get better and more used to the dictators under this "training program," you will actually be working for less money, see?

Why do you suspect a pulmonary embolism? I dounbt tht you wiklk be able to cough it up. Are you producing some blood when coughing?
It might just be some mucus or phlegm that you cannot lodged in you lungs.

Run the scanner to see if the keylogger is installed on your computer or your work server. If nothing else, you don't want anyone getting your personal information or the medical records you are typing.
I am not sure if Lavasoft's AdAware or Spybot Search and Destroy will remove this keylogger, but both are free to download.
Just found out that the suspect's ex wife--sm
is providing an alibi for him, saying that he was with her in Alabama at the time of JonBenets death and that he only knew certain things about the case because he did alot of research on it, as well as another case in California. Why would he confess to it, if he did not do it? and why would she, the ex, defend him?

When VR gets worse over time, I suspect it has to do with
new MTs, Indian MTs, and those MTs who don't really give a crap about "training" VR. When it's not "trained" correctly, it just gets worse. IMO, there's no way to uniformly constantly train it, or for the physicians to ever put forth the proper effort needed to make VR work. It's a losing battle & the only purpose it's serving right now is to severely cut our pay & decrease patient safety. VR needs to go away.

Since it's a new platform, it's a new problem that probably a lot of companies are just waking up to. My sympathies for people who find themselves effectively "forced" to use it as it apparently is now.
With serious compatibility issues with common brands of the Expanders that have become vital to so many of us, at this point I would not apply to a company using it, and I suspect few other good experienced transcriptionists reading about it would either. This seems such a grave flaw that it will have to be repaired, or this platform will end up a dead end used by only a few institutions.
How about contacting the company that developed the platform directly for answers and fixes? Also the developer of your own expander, who must be well aware of the issues Chartscript raises for them. The ShortHand tech guy (not my own MTSO techs!) fixed me up promptly when I was put on eScription and developed glitches. Best wishes with this.

If they don't call you within 15 minutes, you should call them. There
is no excuse for leaving you sitting by a phone all day. At the very least, an e-mail explaining why the delay. If this is the way they train, how do they pay. Do you really want to work for a company who thinks so little of your time?

I work for one of the TOP docs in NYC who is internationally known, so whenever I am sick, he has taken care of me, called in favors from other specialists, etc. The only bill I have to pay is the lab bill. If you work for yourself, that might be a route to go. I even got my bill at NYU Medical Center 75% off!!!
At one time Aetna was pretty good as far as rates for individuals.

I have sent packages via UPS that I have packaged myself and was still covered under their automatic $100 worth of insurance. I wonder if someone at the UPS store is giving you incorrect information? I had an ebay package damaged and they paid for the item even though I packaged it myself. Can you call the main UPS number and ask someone else?

I have researched this myself and found that going through your local Chamber of Commerce is probably the most affordable way to go. If you become a member you are then eligible to get a good rate in health insurance and they offer many different options including HSA (health savings accounts). Check out different Chambers near you though because the membership fee can vary.

there are several companies who now offer individual plans, depending on where you are, I had BC/BS - paid higher premium because I wanted good coverage, but can usually find something for around 100.00 a month if you don't have medical problems, copay for prescriptions may be 30-35.00.

If you're someone with few health risks (non-smoking, etc.) and no major illnesses, you can probably get a good policy with any one of the major insurers, but ask specifics and shop and compare. When I was working as independent I tried to get one myself but they want to often put you in a $5,000 annual deductible which means you really have to get bad sick or hurt to even really see any benefits paid on your behalf and sometimes if you have a common condition like thyroiditis they would put an exclusion in for the first 6 months to 12 months that you have happen to need surgical treatment for that condition, i.e. thyroidectomy, you are practically on your own because it's pre-existing. I would suggest first applying for low-key health insurance, say $50,000, and then along with history-taking, they generally do a blood draw and EKG, along with perhaps even an HIV test among others, then you've got some "evidence" if you will of your health status before applying for major medical. Then decide later, if you are approved that is, if you want to keep the life insurance as you go independenty, or get life insurance and health insurance with a prospective employer if you happen to go that route instead of independent. This way family considerations also are taken into account. Overall it's best to go beyond the hand-outs which look so colorful and shiny with smiling faces, and look at the contract benefits, exclusions and limitations of any policy, which they hesitate to show unless you pay your money first. Hope you find the right one.
