Bytescribe versus Start/Stop - which wav player is better? SM

I'm trying to decide which audio player software and pedal to purchase. I'm also looking at GearPlayer. I want something user friendly, universal to audio file types, and compatible with whatever service I end up with should I need to have my own software and equipment.
Thanks guys and gals!

I have Start Stop digital voice player--sm
and Spyware Doctor, as well. I have never had any conflicts between the two, and I really do not see why one would interfere with the other. although, I do not leave Spyware Doctor on all the time. I leave it off while I am working, as it did tend to slow things down a bit, but I never had any problems with it. I do run a nightly scan with Spyware Doctor though. I would be careful of other Spyware programs. I have had others that claim to remove spyware from your computer but actually do absolutely nothing. I believe the one I am thinking of is Spyware Eliminator, but I am not sure right off the top of my head. Good luck.
Start n' Stop digital voice player...which is what i use..nm

Start Stop digital player has a time stamp feature..sm...
I'm not sure if it puts it in Word or what it does. I've never needed it.
I think a program that would pull header information from Word and add it to a log file might be needed by quite a few MTs. I don't know if that's feasible since everyone's needs would be different. A lot of MTs like to keep logs though, myself included.
If I think of anything else I'll be back.
Start Stop voice file player and conflicts with Spyware Doctor
I was having problems with StartStop and talked to one of their techs this morning. One of the bugs it was having was fixed when I turned off Spyware Doctor so I need a new anti-spyware program.
I’m thinking of trying Spyware Blaster. I called to see if there were any conflicts with that one but had to leave a message. In the meantime, does anyone use StartStop voice file player and also use Spyware Doctor without any buggy conflict problems between the two softwares?
Bytescribe player
You can just buy the player. I use it and found it to play all files even those pesky ds2 files from Olympus that I get, which nothing else will play. I also love the tech support; always get a response. I have used GearPlayer also in the past and found it okay, but the files it will play are limited. HTH.
Gear player or Bytescribe
Gear player vs. bytescribe... which is the more versatile?
I am currently using start/stop, but the voice files I get it will not let me speed them up. Dives me INSANE to listen to a sssssllllllllooooowwwwww dictator and not be able to speed them up.... actually would like to go whomp them up the side of the head .. but since that is not an option...
Looks like Gear player you can buy just the software, but Bytescribe you have to pay another 50 bucks and get the foot pedal.. no option that I could find not to.
Thanks for any suggestions you all might have to offer.
Bytescribe is also a player, the platform is Bayscribe.
How about downloading a trial version of Wavplayer from Bytescribe (or other wav player)....sm
and see if the .dvf files will work. That could help isolate some of the problem. Can you get them to play in Media Player?
Flashdrive question versus Windows Media Player
There are 32 files on this flashdrive. I use a Stop/Start pedal. In using my pedal, I have done all of the files but four. Four of the 32 files show a length of about one hour each, but you cannot hear anything. However, if you open this up in Windows Media Player, you can hear him talking. What do I need to do about this? I can't type using Windows Media without my pedal, and why do you think I can't hear just four of the 32 files with my Start Stop pedal? This is a new thing for me and please pardon my ignorance, but I could really use your advice as soon as possible. You can email me and thank you kindly. Lisa
Start/Stop
I had to buy this for a job but ended up loving it and even used it for a different job (a fairly large national) where they had their own wav player that was clunky and full of bugs and given to locking up. I was able to use the USB pedal I already had, so I didn't have to buy theirs, but they actually send you a CD and a booklet, so I believe you can install it as much as needed.
The feature I like is that you can program a pedal to insert a blank and a time code, which makes reviewing blanks ever so much easier.
start stop
try going to configure and uncheck variable speed it will play but you cant chnge speed
or try associate files with start stop under configure and check them all
Start/Stop
For those of you out there who have had a problem with this program skipping while trying to type and have to restart, etc., I have found that if you will load the Start/Stop program before Word, Excel, etc, you should not encounter this problem.
Start Stop pedal best
As far as I am concerned, Start Stop is the Cadillac of pedals. Costs a little more, but worth every penny of it.

Start/stop and ExText
Is everyone using Dictaphone ExText also using start/stop?
I use the start-stop program too, and--sm
True Speech files are supposed to be compatible with it. When I get the error message that you speak of, there is usually no file at all associated with the job number. I suspect that is more the problem, than it not being able to be opened at all. There is nothing there to open. That happens sometimes with my docs when they are using a call in system and either get disconnected or hang up. Wherever you got the file from, just tell them there is no file there for that job number.
I have had the same problem with Start-Stop..sm
I used it with my lap top and it would keep playing. At times having to step on the foot pedal several times to make it stop. I was beginning to wonder if I was going to break it at times as I would get frustrated and really give it a good stomp at times LOL. I ordered a USB footpedal from another company and it works great even when I switched to Windows Vista the pedal works fine. I think it was just the pedal from Start Stop. Hope this helps.
Start Stop pedal
You may be on a platform that will not work with Start Stop, such as Dictaphone. Best way to get an answer, however, is to call the company. I have had a Start Stop pedal for 6 years and have always found them to be very helpful and their tech people usually get back to you within a day. Their 800# is (866) 254-0714 or you can go to their web site and E-mail them. http://www.startstop.com/home.asp Good luck.
Start/Stop pedal and USB hub
I'm having problems getting my Start/Stop pedal for EMDAT to work when it is plugged into the USB hub. It doesn't seem to recognize it correctly unless it is plugged directly into the computer. Any ideas? Thanks!
Stop-Start Foot pedal
I have a stop-start foot pedal and using Express scribe. When I take my foot off the pedal I would like it to just rewind a little bit instead of constantly having to hit the rewind pedal. Do anyone know the procedure/technique to get this to work???
Start/Stop Com Port settings
Have you played with the Com port setting under the Configure button? I have had to try mine in all 8 until I found the right one.
Start/Stop foot pedal
I want to know if anyone knows how to use the Start/Stop foot pedal with EMDAT (Inscribe). I think I may have an older moderl. Not sure. Thanks.
Start/Stop foot pedal
I have the same problem, probably because I have an older model with no switch on the bottom.
Where to purchase Emdat pedal beside Start/Stop???

Emdat Start/Stop pedal trouble, Help!
I can't get my start/stop pedal to work right with Emdat. Anyone else have trouble getting their pedal to work right? It plays a little and then keeps starting over and quits. Help!
If you use a Start-Stop foot pedal, please SM - I have a problem/question
I use a Start-Stop foot pedal with a PS/2 connector for an Emdat account. I connect a PS/2 ergonomic keyboard to it, plug into the PC, and everything works beautifully.
The problem I have is this setup doesn't work using my laptop. The Start-Stop tech person told me the PS/2 foot pedal used with a USB adapter isn't compatible with the laptop. He said I need a USB-port Start-Stop foot pedal. He also said I would need to use the laptop keyboard since an external USB-port keyboard also isn't compatible with the Start-Stop foot pedal when used with a laptop. (I knew that my old PS/2 keyboard wouldn't work with the laptop and have already bought an MS 4000).
I really looked forward to getting my laptop set up so I could be more portable with my work, but after years of using an ergo keyboard there's just no way I would be productive using the laptop keyboard (not to mention the strain on my shoulders/wrists/hands).
So, here's my question.....Is there really no way to use a Start-Stop 3-pedal unit with USB connector on a laptop and at the same time use an external USB-port keyboard?
Any help is truly, truly appreciated.

Contact Start/Stop at their website and describe your pedal and ask them. They were very helpful

Start Stop foot pedal pre-programmed for EMDAT problems
I just got my foot pedal but have no idea how to get it to work with EMDAT Inscribe; much to my dismay a manual was not included with the pedal. Obviously, even though it was pre-programmed to work with EMDAT, I can't just plug it in and get to work. UGH!
Can anyone help me here. I'm a real computer dummy so I need to be walked through the steps as though I were a kid. BTW, my hot keys are F7 Play, F6 rewind, and F4 RR.
TIA
Gearplayer, Cyberplayer, ExpressScribe,Transcription Buddy, Stop/Start questions
When you work for yourself which voice player do you prefer? I have tried all of the above players and all of them seem to distort the voice when you slow it down. Why can't these players slow down files like the platforms MTSOs use?
RE: Using stop -start program, but cnanot get true speech files to play - any one with any ides it w
would greatly appeciate any advice as to why the start stop program will place the vox files but not the true speech even Iafter I told to associat wiht true speech and so on... The time flickers like it wantt to open the file but it never opens.... THe the error comes up file is too smlal to be a valid sound file or missing file" Actually the start stop will place the Regan Speech sample audio that is a true speech file so I would think it could play true speech files
You can buy just the Start/Stop software w/o the pedal if you're able to use your pedal as a VEC

I am not sure but I think Bytescribe and Expresscribe are similar. I have Bytescribe with a 9-pin
serial port for my foot pedal. My foot pedal has worked fine with several different programs and proprietary software too, sometimes I have had to reselect/reset in in the proprietary programs, but it alwasy works fine. You can ask the Bytescribe people though, and tell them what kind of foot pedal you have and they will make sure you get the correct version so it will work. As for PlayAll it will not work if you have Bytescribe on your computer, at least this is what I have been told my 1 of my employers. I was given a copy of the PlayAll but I can't get it to work, it will open up and I just right down the info I need from it for my records and blank notes, just won't "play" supposedly because I have Bytescribe. I am not taking it off to see or not though. You need to find out what kind of wav files they are though because if the ExpressScribe will play them, then there is really no reason for you to buy Bytescribe too. --Good Luck.
Starting job using Olympus Player/pedal - does this have a good player with slow down speeds - I do
Until now I have always used company software with player included. I hate to spend money and find out the player is mickey mouse!!
Thanks- you may e-mail me if you prefer.
65 character line versus gross lines versus pay by word
I am checking into other options for transcription. Can anyone tell me how to compare all of these types of lines & also payment per word? I know companies use different scales, so I wondered how they compare. I have been paid on a 65 character line with spaces, but I may be making a change in the future - don't want to get burned.
Thank you in advance!
Question versus gross lines versus 65-character lines....
I have always charged or been paid by 65 or 60 character lines or per letter or space typed, but have never been paid or charged per gross line.
What is the advantage of this? If I were to charge 11 cents per 65-character line including spaces, what does this figure out to for an average line rate and how do you do this calculation?
I'm wondering if it is financially beneficial for me to bill by gross line or to keep it the way I have it. I do know some accounts will only pay per 65-character line, as this was the deal my first own account I recently acquired. They were adamant on a 65-character line, but didn't specify with or without spaces and I personally would never not charge for spaces.
Thanks for explaining this. I appreciate it and hope everyone has a speedy day.
stop and full stop
that reminds me of a doctor who had his own very unique word for period...he called it a "perikat". All through the report...Perikat... perikat.... LOL
Bytescribe
There has been a B I G change in bytescribe. It seems to be all about money now, and no longer about good customer service/relationship. I bought a call in system 4-5 years ago. I no longer take the yearly service contract and had a question to ask. I did not want anyone to FIX it, just answer a couple of questions. I was told that to speak to a tech would be 75.00 (I guess an hour) and that they would call me back between 1 and 5 that day. Not like this at first.
They at one time, told me about the 3 limit install on the wav software, however as of yet I have not had to pay, as I have bought more than 10 of them.
No, it's right from Bytescribe (sm)
Go here
https://bytescribe.net/WebStore/shopping.htm
And from that page click on DocShuttle on the left. It will bring up different versions and you'll see there is DocShuttle Client for $99and DocShuttle Client with Dongle for $115. You have to buy it with the dongle right from the beginning. If you don't and just buy it without and run out of installs, they won't let you just buy the dongle. You have to buy the whole thing all over again. We all know that with computer failures and backup computers and new computers, etc., we definitely need more than 3 installs so I think for the small price difference it's worth it.
Yes I do. I have Bytescribe
and I have Expresscribe that I downloaded as well. So does it sound like it would work, him emailing me voice files and then I would just open them and play them (is that how it works?) TIA!
need to know about Bytescribe
Is it user friendly? Easy to install? Thanks.
bytescribe
I have been using it as a trans - there are three versions, owner, dictator and trans. It is pretty much like FTP, only work is automatically placed into a preset folder and you work out of that folder with your player - as for the documents - I use my own folders and attach the document, although you can use the program to devlop a document - one I return all the work I move the voice files into a different folder out of the way and then also move the douments that develop when attached into a done folder too - it sounds complicated, but it is not. The documents in the bytescribe folders are backup for me - they "pop up" when I attach my word document to the voice file and send. Again, it sounds a bit much, but really no more than many other avenues of returning work - and again you get a backup for those "what ifs".
Bytescribe
I believe has such a system with DocShuttle etc.. I worked for a small company that used this with docking stations for the MD office
Bytescribe
I used Bytescribe's equipment when first starting. It worked great. I would make sure that they offer the option that you and any MTs working for you do *not* have to buy their DocShuttle software to get the dictations off the server. They also offer a pay as you go dictation server, never tried it though. Good luck! Let us know what you try. (I also tried Express whatever and it cut off my dictators every single time and you are right, they never gave me any explanation and the tech support was ridiculous!)
RE: Bytescribe
There is compatible issue with Bytescribe and Windows Vista. I have Vista.
I like Bytescribe
Question re: bytescribe please! sm
I am a newbie who has been working about 8 months now. I have a standard wav player and Express Scribe and Play All Extra. I am looking for a change in employers since my current job has lost another account. I applied, tested and have been offered a job that requires a bytescribe wav player. Is this another program I have to purchase to make my regular foot pedal work with their program? Please forgive me if this has been addressed before. I have been up all night working and just cant seem to find what I am looking for. I am a little confused about all the different programs for the foot pedals. Since I have Express Scribe and Play All is that okay, or is this bytescribe thing a whole ball of wax? Thank you so much for any help!
Beware of Bytescribe
Just a head ups about Bytescribe. While the program itself is great, beware that it can only be reinstalled 3 times even on the same computer. So, if you are unlucky enough to have to replace or reformat your computer, your Bytescribe program will no longer be of any use to you after your third instillation. They will be happy to send you an unlimited license for an extra 109.00 after the fact! Isn't that nice of them? This information is not given to you until after you have made the purchase during the registration process. I am now stuck with a several hundred dollar program that is useless. I hope I can spare someone from wasting so much money. I wish I would have been warned about this beforehand.
Beware Bytescribe
From register@bytescribe.com
"Our registration process is necessary because we sell foot pedals separately and because we deal with International markets.
In the registration agreement it states that the software can be installed up to 3 times.
We would like to keep you as a satisfied customer but we do have guidelines set by our company."
Beware Bytescribe
Yes, I have been trying to resolve this issue with them since yesterday. They are not budging and I refuse to pay another 109.00. I'm not sure if they just started it. My software was purchased along with a pedal and headset about a year and a half ago. I actually have the disk here at home. In any case, I've filed a complaint about them to the BBB. I'm not telling anyone not to buy it, I just want everyone to be aware of what you are really getting. Had I known I could only install it 3 times (even on the same computer) I would not have bought it.
Bytescribe wavplayer
I have a Bytescribe wavplayer, but it doesn't fit into my speakers. Does anyone know what kind of speakers I need to get, or do I need to drag the foot pedal into the store with me to try it out?
Question about Bytescribe
I trained on Bytescribe Wavplayer several weeks ago, then wasn't going to be using it for awhile, so unplugged it, then had to plug it back for some reason, and since it was in my way and I still wasn't using it for my job, I unplugged it again. (It is still on my desktop though). Does that mean I will be going on my 3rd time when I plug it back in?? I'm confused. I haven't even used it yet! It was supplied by my company.
