Bravo!! Very well said and I agree sm
and I'm not even a breeder. Have had dogs for years and have never been bit or growled at nor any member of my family. They've been smothered in love and affection along with discipline and are remarkably well behaved compared to other dogs I have seen. They will always have their special place in my family.
BRAVO! I agree!! (nm)

Bravo! Good post. I totally agree. sm
I too have been in this business for a long time (almost 20 years). I also have a good friend who is an RN who will ask me questions about certain things that she hasn't read up on because it is not in her field of "expertise".
If someone I know says something like, "I have this pain that won't go away. . ..", I say, "you need to make an appointment with your doctor. If someone says the doc put them on a drug and can't pronounce the name, I can give them the correct way to say it.
But in my experience, I can tell (in my areas of expertise) when something is wrong. I would never say, "I think he has this or that." I would say, "I really don't like the looks of that and it might need to be looked at by the doctor. Even if I do know from experience what it may be.
In the case of an NP ignoring the MT's concerns, I find that disturbing. That seems to say that personal objections are getting in the way, which should never happen in the medical field, regardless of what level you are at, if there is even what may apper to be a valid concern.
I completely agree
These ESLs work hard to learn the language before they come here, many learning it through their school years, come here and legitimately and legally set up their practices (I haven't heard of any doctors complaining that their jobs are being taken by foreigners), and they still have to fight for any respect.
you are welcome and I completely agree with what you are saying!
it seems that so many like to twist around the Word or leave parts out that are uncomfortable.
I agree completely!!
When I first started typing for MedQuist, if there was a difficult doctor, I would skip over it. As time progressed, the more typing I did, the better I got and didn't want to skip over reports, I wanted to be able to type whatever came up! If you NEVER type these heavy accented doctors, you will NEVER learn to do them. I agree with you "Got the Letter" and am waiting for my phone call!!
I agree with you completely
when EVERYONE criticizes how the government is run and how they do things? Why put your life and those of your family in jeopardy waiting on the government to help you. What happened to PEOPLE helping each other? People seeing that their elderly neighbors get to safety? People pulling together to solve these issues? Why do so many seem to be waiting to see what the government can do for them?? The government has enough problems! I certainly would not rely on the government for ANYTHING! Do these people want to government telling them what to do in their everyday lives? If so, move to a country with no democracy!
I'm finished for the time being.. but WAKE UP PEOPLE!
I agree with you completely
and believe me, they don't give a patient a discount because they feel guilty. They don't give the employees yearly raises. While they (and the 2 office managers) get their bonuses and go buy brand new cars, SUVs, boats, vacation homes and, yes, even airplanes, they have plenty of employees struggling to make ends meet. One employee (that I know of, a newly divorced woman) recently took bankruptcy and our insurance is so bad that most of us can't afford to even go to the doctor as we have $2,600 deductible for a single person! I would NOT feel guilty one bit!
I completely agree with you . .
Did you see Tanya Tucker's reality show? I loved that. There's one about roller derby girls and a new one is coming out about rodeo cowboys - sounds exciting to me.
I completely agree - sm
I love it when they say thank you. It makes me smile every time. It also makes me smile and chuckle a little when I get one that will laugh at themself when he/she gets tripped up on their words.
I agree completely
Sad but so true.
I agree with you completely!
And now that many companies are cracking down on and checking quality due to client complaints and sloppiness, I would bet many MT line counts will be going down real fast. Remember, haste makes waste... and slow but steady wins the race!
Oh, I completely agree. (sm)
I've also seen 20-year MTs who proudly announce that they don't know the difference between there, their and they're, and it doesn't matter anyway. (?!!)
It is appalling. But those people also rarely post on boards because it's just a job they put in and they don't usually want to use a computer or talk about work outside of work (in my experience).
Maybe if somebody had let them know differently in the beginning, they would have chosen another career or taken the time to learn the English language.
You are only the second English major MT I have come across, and the other one is the best MT whose work I've seen.
Completely agree
Always have two companies, at least.
i completely agree.
"Assault" may sound nicer than "rape" but it's NOT the same thing. It's the MT's job to accurately record the doctor's words, pretty or not. Of course we may correct grammar but certainly not the meaning of a document.
These are sometimes used as legal documents and that should always be taken into account.
I COMPLETELY agree.
I mean, it's not as though we have nothing else to do! These tests take a long time and unless you have no job, they are much too time consuming. The worst is when you don't pass after spending so much time.
Also, you go through the grammar, etc. and then come to that?!
I think a couple of carefully selected files will tell them everything they need to know about your skill level.
NO. Not lazy at all!
Agree completely. Sometimes I am not even
sure if I am talking to the same person when they do not use their same initials or names with every post.
I agree completely (sm)
As another poster said, our bodies "know" when we have typed a certain number of lines. Having worked for various transcription companies, I found it difficult to even reach the minimum lines with many of these places. I feel very fortunate to have found an MTSO that is honest. Guess what, I am transcribing over 2,000 lines in 5 or 6 hours! I am saving every penny possible because I know it will not last forever.
I agree completely
Well said. It's been said time and time again there are no grammar police on this board but they're here all the time just the same.
I COMPLETELY AGREE!
nice post!
Exactly. Completely agree.

I completely agree with what you say.
However, I think the companies have the upper hand with the fact that we are remote employees who never to rarely actually see each other. If there were ever some kind of group formed to work on these issues, I'd be the first to join....
I agree completely. He is nuts.
But what did I miss with Johnny Depp???
I agree with you completely. It is our government that ALLOWS this
to happen though. My point exactly. Spend money overhauling the system. Make people accoutable for their actions. That opens up money for people who really need it. Also, people here that do not pay taxes and are not here legally, give them the boot.
I agree completely. Especially the line of
"if the company makes money"! I mean, gosh -- that's ridiculous.
I wouldn't stand for it.
Completely agree, Jess.
I could not have said it better myself.
Completely agree...you have to do what works for your family.
I wish you the best of luck, and keep us updated! :)
I agree. I found him to be very sexy. He'd always take my breath completely away!
I completely agree. I don't care how long it's been a 'tradition'.
It's pure senseless slaughter in the purest form. Maybe they should have "running of the Spaniards" and see how they like it!
I completely agree. Working alone is so much better than dealing with all that stuff.

Agree completely. I have seen some god-awful things in reports.
Things that are guessed at and sometimes even legitimately looked up and searched for, unfortunately not finding the correct word. I told an MT once, "You can't just type that this patient is on that drug just because it is for the same symptoms. You have to type what the doctor is saying." I couldn't believe it. I have seen some stuff, let me tell you, and 38 cms is the least of it. I had a supervisor ask me once if I was "sure" that ostial was a term used in a cardiac cath and that "osteal" referred to bone. DUH! If I wasn't sure we wouldn't be having this conversation! Then they get clerks to listen. Puuhlease! I'm not even QA and I scratch my head and wonder why people like that are in this business if they aren't in it to do a first-class job. Once I had a team leader route me a report that she had started because she said her "head was stuffy " and she couldn't hear." I couldn't believe the report when I looked at it. Obviously nothing looked up, not even spell checked. My 15-yo could have done a FAR better job. Nobody cares. They are just in it because they think they can still make the "easy money." It's not bad money, but it's not like it used to be. And management thinks we can all be so easily replaced by whoever steps off the bus next. It's very disheartening to me.
I completely agree with the advice below. Without your books, Google.
Just be sure that the entries you find are from a verifiable source; you can also access Dorland's at the Merck website (google Dorland Merck and then add to favs).
I travel frequently and have found MT an easily-adaptable job for this. You'll want to get very used to setting up and taking down your computer quickly, as well as making sure you have the correct cords, etc. Seems like a "duh" thing, but... :)
If you have money and inclination, you might purchase a couple of your most frequently-used Stedman's on CD-ROM and install before you leave on your trip. I have the equipment words, surgery words, and emergency medicine words on CD-ROM that I use without having to have the physical books handy.
Enjoy your trip!
Agree completely.....money making scheme....
xx
BRAVO! BRAVO! So true, and so well-said!

Bravo!!
Thank you for your post!! The truth!! Please continue to tell it as it is..maybe one day some will be enlightened..Once again, thank you..
Bravo!
I've always thought it was unrealistic to expect all teenage high school graduates to know what they want to do with the rest of their lives and to be able to pursue a college degree based on that knowledge (although I acknowledge that's 100% true, as some grads do know). I'm 53 and I'm still not sure what I want to be when I grow up!
I think the events described in your post happen a lot more often than not, and when they do occur, it IS a waste of money.
Life is a work in progress, and people change drastically over the course of it.
Again Bravo
On a gross line a/c I work on I avg 320-340 lines/hr when actually typing, using all my own shortcuts and saved text. But you are truly awesome. I'm fairly new to MT work so still working on them, but I truly hope to be where you are some day.
Bravo! :)

I think YOU should run for President!!!
Bravo.... :O) NM

Bravo! Well said.
Yes, instead of being petty, envious and annoyed - celebrate with our typing sisters and brothers - we are all trying to make it work moneywise. Share the knowledge of increasing line count. That is what everyone wants to know anyway. Good for you!
BRAVO for you
BRAVO!!!!
We should email this out to all the top companies!
Bravo, thanks!
I love the look of the Mac, plus the idea that it's almost as portable as a laptop. Thanks! for the info, now I have a goal.
BRAVO, BRAVO!
I'm with you on that one!!!
Bravo....well said! nm

Bravo!!!!
You are 100% correct. Offshoring is all about cheap labor and not better quality. I could point out a million examples but two are toys made in China and Microsoft's technical support! Not quality, just cheap junk!
Bravo. Well said! nm

Bravo !
Bravo! Braavo ! Bravo !
Bravo to you Fed Up!
I also earned a B.A. in English and worked for many years as a writer/editor before becoming an MT 17 years ago, so the concept that anything written in the BOS would trump the basic rules of the English language is absolutely absurd to me.
