Both, but mostly books, Internet sites not updated often enough.

Some are, but I find it mostly a waste of time having to surf through pages of links to find exactly what I want.

I also prefer the internet because it is always updated
I like rxlist especially if I need to verify the dosage or preparation, look up s/l.
I like healthdigest because I can look up drugs by their first letter/s, or look up drugs by typing the indication (hypertension, hyperthyroidism, cancer) or the route (rectal, vaginal, topical ophthalmic) in its search engine to see the possible drugs there (if s/l or first letter/s are leading me nowhere). I like americarx.com for OTC drugs. Drugs@FDA is also a good reference. PDR Health (gettingwell.com) has categorized its drugs into Rx, OTC, herbal, and nutritional. There are tons of other drug sites which you will find useful just by using the google's search engine.
anybody have any good PT sites/books??
I do a lot of PT reports and some of the exercises dictated are not very clear and spelling is unknown, and having a tough time finding reference material on the web. I have the Dorland's Orthopedics book and that helps sometimes, but wondered if there were other things out there that other people use??
Try to refer to ref sites and books
Sites like these help.
Reference books/sites for breast cancer (sm)
I just started with a breast cancer surgeon. I am wondering if anyone can recommend some good reference material for this. Thanks.
Need good organisms and infectious disease books/sites (sm)
I have Stedman's Organisms & Infectious Diseases, but it's out of date (2002) and an updated company has not been published. Does anyone recommend any books and/or web sites that can give me quick info including on meds for specific IDs? e.g., Stedman's lists HIV/AIDS medications alphabetically in the appendix.
I like drug books even though you can access sites on line. A lab book, the Sted's Ortho Words, a

Don't buy books. Use the internet for research.
of using Stedman books is over. You can find new drugs, surgical instruments and much more.
Do MTs bother to use their reference books or the internet? SM
I just wonder because I am so sick of correcting reports where the MT has obviously just guessed at what is being dictated or what she heard rather than taking a minute to crack open a freaking book or at the very least Google it.
QA is a resource not a freaking safety net for MTs who can't or won't do the job they were hired for. Part of the job description for medical transcription is to be both productive AND accurate! Nowhere does it say, if you don't know, just guess or if you don't know, just leave a blank -- don't look it up or use the internet -- just leave a blank.
While I'm at it, let me just say to all the MTs out there who have being "doing this for years" and don't think they could ever possibly make a mistake -- YOU ARE WRONG! To the MTs who use "that's how we were told to do it at my last job" as your battle cry -- THAT IS WHY WE HAVE A STANDARDIZED REFERENCE BOOK CALLED THE AAMT BOS!
I don't care how you did it at your last job. I don't care if that is what you thought you heard. I don't care if your spell check didn't catch it. And I don't care how long you've been an MT. You should have known how to spell it, you should own a reference book, you should own a copy of the BOS, and years of experience in no way replaces a good solid education! Finally, you should take the time to educate yourself, look things up you aren't sure of, and just plain care about the content of your work -- not just how much of it you can get done.
<< Getting off my soapbox now.
Having to use books only, with no Internet to research words,
Still, disabling a computer they own is one thing; disabling one YOU own is another. I think that's more of a power-trip on their part than anything that will truly protect them. If they connect with any other PC for any transmission of data, they can get a virus. Hobbling their MTs when it comes to research and communication via the Internet is going to prove counter-productive to them in the long run. They should invest in some professional grade antivirus software and consider joining the 21st Century like the rest of us.
I personally wouldn't work for such an employer. But you could: Ask them to provide you with THEIR computer to disable, if they feel that's so important. Check with your IP to see if you can simply set up a 2nd email account that you could toggle in and out of. Or, buy a laptop, have a different user-name & email address, and use that to stay connected with the outside world.
You are always tlaking abaout books! Much too slow. INTERNET...nm

Good drug book vs. internet drug sites
I need to buy a new drug book. At a prior job, about a year ago, one of the supervisors told me she used the internet exclusively. What's the consensus and if you prefer the internet, which site or sites do you like. Thanks in advance.
FYI I HAVE reference books, but in case you hadn't noticed, thing change a lot faster than BOOKS
I was simply asking for suggestions of other places on line that I might look for the latest info, especially considering that my work is on the internet, what the hell is wrong with trying to be more productive and efficient?!?! Good Grief!!
Free Ortho sites & ABCZ sites
Every orthopedic test imaginable.

Good luck
I prefer books. I'm kinda old school. I like to be able to write new terms in my books. I do
have Stedman's Medical Dictationary on CD and I do use it quite a bit, but that's more because the actual print dictionary is so darn heavy to pick up and look a word up!

Updated info on CyMed?
Hi -
First time ever on this board and I've been an MT for 15 years. Worked for Healthscribe before Spheris took over (3 years) and now work for another company...but looking elsewhere. Can anyone give me their honest opinions about CyMed? I just tested with them, extremely easy to me, but I HATE changing job. However, job I have now....isn't paying the bills at all, waiting for work constantly, they are going to start off-shoring, etc. I'm single, have 1 child, lost a great job last year working by the hour (outside of home), but lost the job (don't even ask). I loved it, but got screwed. Now I'm just depressed, disgusted, broke, etc., and very stressed and worried. I'm going to have to get out of transcription or something. This just isn't working and I seriously would appreciate any good or bad. I talked to a man there for over an hour yesterday. He was extremely patient and took his time explaining everything I asked.
Thanks in advance everyone!
They come out with an updated version every year.
Stedman's is the best spellchecker on the market IMO. FYI: All caps is considered yelling.
We got an updated set of account guidelines constantly
put somewhere different than it was last week, they'd tell us to change something and when we changed it they sent it back and told us not to change it anymore. They blamed things on us that weren't even anything we do, like if someone was on vacation and a report didn't get sent to the right place. People started to get threatened with termination (not me but I know people who were) for even the most miniscule reason like forgetting to sign off a doc as a DO instead of an MD. They were just unreasonable bullies and the more they complained and fussed the more Diskriter management bowed to their every wish and created a monster. Good luck if you end up there. It could have been a nice account if this nonsense had been nipped in the bud.
Has anyone updated yet to the new version of XP to 7.0 on updates and how does it work.

Anybody have to visit the hospital lately to an updated system? sm
I have gone recently for a medical problem and I am amazed how they have everything networked to different departments.
So I didn't like watching my wages go down and I now work for specialists, but it was such a nice hospital visit. I was in and out of there in no time with no waiting. It was an amazing system. And this is a large acute care hospital! I was absolutely amazed.
book was apparently updated in 2005
Amazon.com has one called "Saving Keystrokes" by same author with new copies and 25 used. I have the older edition. This might be even better.
There are updated macros in all versions of Word
except 2007. The macro for 2000 is called macros9.dot and can be downloaded from the Microsoft site. The AutoCorrect Utility in 2002 & 2003 is in the support.dot template that is included with Word. You can go to this site to get the macro for 2007:

Or you can simply locate your .acl file and back that up. It's easy to find if you add an entry and then do a search for it by the date modified. Just make sure you are searching hidden files and folders.

If you want to work on the internet from home, take an internet course
But only from Andrews School or M-TEC. Many companies will waive the 2-years' experience requirement and will test and hire you if you go to either of those schools. Do NOT bother with At Home Professions, Penn Foster, US Career Institute, or ESPECIALLY Trans-Am, which is also known as Trans-SCAM and is a total ripoff. You will have a VERY difficult time getting hired without experience unless you choose Andrews School or M-TEC. Yes, they cost more, but that's because they are excellent training programs, not "correspondence courses."
It has nothing to do with sites..
Check with your ISP, modem or phone line.

Does anyone know of any FTP sites that do not have a user fee? I am currently using a software that charges me 0.025 cpl and I find it's a ripoff. I really don't make any money off this software, AND I paid an arm and a leg for this software. Can anyone tell me where I can find an FTP site that does not charge a user fee? TIA.
