Bosses

About the "boss" that is the trouble with being an MT. These companies think they own you even if you are on production.  They think they can speak to you any way they want and make demands.  I have been in this business for 25 years, and in no way will I let a "boss" treat me like I am an idiot, etc.  These companies don't care if you quit, because there is another poor sucker who wants to get into the field.  AND you accept a job and find out afterwards all kinds of stuff that you aren't told when you are hired.  Every MT should find out the most they can about any company they plan to work for. AMEN

Don't feel bad. I don't think your bosses sm
would appreciate too much input on errors that other people make. All we can do is fulfill our own responsibilities and if your company is not doing good quality work overall, you have to decide if you want to stay there. Believe me, I know how you feel.
most bosses are afraid to stand up to the....sm
doctors. We, (the MTs) are the ones made to feel like we aren't good enough if we leave a blank, (this, AFTER we've struggled through it 10 or mores times, rewinding, trying our BEST to figure it out), yet WE are the ones who are made to feel bad (sometimes stupid) for leaving a blank. Heaven forbid we ask the doctor to try and be considerate and speak just a little bit slower, or to please speak LOUD enough so we can HEAR you (especially if you've a foreign accent!), enunciate, not eat or chew gum when dictating, don't continue to dictate through the loud intercom system, etc! Now, having said that, I know there are actually a few considerate doctors out there, and a few bosses willing to go to bat for us, the MTs, but it seems like those are the minority. My sister actually said something to one of the office staff who did speak to the doctor about his terrible dictation, and his reply was, "They are the professionals. They KNOW how to figure it out." Yes, he actually said that, and he's a terrible, terrible dictator. Yes, we do try, but sometimes, no matter how adept we are at "getting it," sometimes it just isn't to be gotten because of the terrible dictator!!
