I think that AAMT/AHDI betrayed us all by trafficking the CMT certification and giving everyone the idea that it was the organization that was going to look out for American MTs' best intests, then totally changing its philosophy (not to mention its name, which now doesn't include the word 'American') to support offshoring once they had everyone over a barrel because the CMT certification is so well recognized and so many companies require or at least desire this certification. I'm sure there must be a legal term for this, but until I come up with something more specific, I'm going to stick with 'bait & switch.' AHDI now postures itself as the global watchdog for healthcare document integrity, which it tells us it accomplishes by bringing foreign MTs up to speed, & I am supposed to be so concerned about the integrity of healthcare documents the world over & so grateful for AHDI's self-proclaimed responsibility for this that I will support CMT certification of foreign MTs by remaining affiliated with them and maintaining my certification. As If! The reality, of course, is that this all a bunch of doubletalk. They simply went where the money was, figuring they could capitalize on the certification of legions of offshore MTs. It's all about the bottom line, & I'm simply not going to affiliate myself with an organization that would behave this way toward me and toward American MTs in general, so I've renounced the CMT certification. For now I still say that I passed their test & voluntarily chose not to renew, partly because I'm still as addicted as they intended me to be on the title CMT and partly because I'm using it as a way to educate potential employers about AHDI's agenda, but I figure that if enough MTs give it up & come up with out another, equally recognizable way to validate their experience & expertise for potential employers, AHDI's certification will simply become known as the one all the Indians have. At least, that's what I envision.
