Blasted cold out today. It was 104 degrees last week, but it's 40 degrees today with rain.
However, I do like cozy days like today when I don't have to go anywhere. I'm done working, the house is clean, there's chili on the stove for dinner already, and I'm just putzing around. I think I'll go bake some jalapeno cheese bread to go with the chili.
He was just arrested last week and it was in today's
paper, so he isn't on the sex Offender Registry yet. He lives right next door, at my kids' bus stop. My son gets so embarrassed that I stand at the bus stop and wait for him even though it's right next door (he says that no one else's mom does that), but now I'm really glad that I do stand there and wait. I know I do my part looking after my children, but what does it say about our government when someone admits to child molestation and is let out on $500 bail? Innocent until proven guilty is one thing, but this guy admitted it.
There are probably at least a dozen jobs a week
posted for companies looking for people to work at home. Pay may not be as good as it is usually production-based. There are pros and cons, just like any situation. With gas prices the way they are now being able to work at home is a plus, but working at home isn't stress-free either. Lots of companies hire part-time and you could take a position for a month or two and try it to see how it will work for you before you decide to quit the other job.
Even here in NY it's beautiful today, no cold weather this week.
I currently work 70 hours a week and three jobs...
so it is physically possible to work that many hours. I am going down to 50 hours a week in two weeks, but you do what you have to do.
AOL lists today that MT is one of highest WAH jobs!!
Look at the model they used...that's sure what the average MT looks like! LOL

Leftovers always - plan it this way during the week - today it's leftover spaghetti

My employer took all MTs out to lunch today in recognition of National MT Week and we got a new
Drake & Drake Pharmaceutical Word Book! First time I have worked anywhere that actually recognized MTs for this week.
At 53 working 2 jobs 80 hours a week is impossible. I tried it, it does not work!! (sm)
I have been at this business 30+ years and at one point worked 3 jobs and 2 were for hospital contracts with taxes taken out and the other IC. It gives you no life. My suggestion, if you need the extra $$ work your 40 during the week, then 1 or 2 nights 2 hours and then Sat/Sun 16 hours which would give you 20 hours. That is more than enough and will give you a chance to see if you want to make a job change. Have tried the 2 FT 80 hours and almost had a seizure over it. Remember if your not physically well you cannot do it all!
I'm interviewing for an account that uses
Docuscribe. I don't know the first thing about it. Would like some feedback on how it is to use, do you find it helpful or more of a hindrance, does it count lines, is it easy to learn how to use?
You are right here! Shorts are definitely NOT appropriate for interviewing.
Good luck to your son! :-)
I just started with a new company this week, so I will let you know how it goes. SM
I am still working for Spheris just in case, but if this new one doesnt work out I will look elsewhere. Kind of fed up.
Is company board down? No posts from today. nm
.
I love my new company. I'm off today and tomorrow
and didn't have to beg anybody or worry about TAT.
I just told my company to take this VR and put where the sun don't shine today sm
I got tired of the promises...Oh I have gals doing 10,500 lines every 2 weeks in 8 hours a day. (I think I choked when I heard this.)
It is NOTHING for me to type 8000 lines or BETTER in a week and I get paid way more for my 8000 lines. I have been looking for another job, either PT to augment the lack of work or FT for the right situation. First question I ask perspective employer? How do you feel about voice. I have talked to about 7 or 8 companies in the past 2 weeks. EVERY ONE OF THEM has said NO WAY, NOT HERE. It is not very good...you can't expect an MT to edit that crapola for half of what they make typing, unless you don't care the least about quality. I had two of them tell me it was unmitigated GREED on the part of these company's owners that they even entertain it.
I will say that the cream of the crop of MTs can transcribe so much faster than they edit, it isn't even funny. Granted, there are plenty of MTs who are stop start, stop start, but when I get into a report, I put the pedal to the floor and TYPE. I am down to about 1.25:1 or better than that a times. A 5-minute report will take me under 6 minutes, as a rule, to transcribe. My accuracy is something above 99.5%. I swear what attracts MTs to editing is the fact that they can't type enough lines to make it work as a career. Either they can't sit still (that is me most days, but my speed makes up for it), they don't know their stuff all that well, or type slower than a 7-year itch...but they are not the cream of the crop.
Just you all wait...one of these companies who has crappy speech program and crappy "editors" is going to be sued and those extremely substandard reports are going to win the case for the plantiff and the hospital is going to be left high and dry, a couple of doctors with them. We are here for a reason. We protect patients and patient care. We also protect the doctors from litigation. I used to go through medical records looking for errors, loop holes and other boo boos for a malpractice lawyer. The better the transcription, the more thorough the dictation, the less I could find proof against a doctor or facility.
We need a national forum for this...newspaper something.
The company I work for has jobs sm
posted every week, even offering jobs that pay by the hour, but there is NO WORK for the transcriptions who already work there! This morning there are 2 jobs.
two jobs in one company, is it legally possible? sm
is it possible to work in a company with two jobs at different shifts? like for example, I work as a Transcriptionist in the surgery dept and then there's an opening for a different position in a different department. can i apply for that job without jeopardizing the other? Can they accept me if I applied for that job? need advices. thanks a lot!
Yes, you can work 2 jobs for the same company.
The only catch is that if the hours for the 2 jobs combined are over 40 per week, that company has to pay OT for you and most companies won't allow you to work 2 jobs within the company for this reason. When I worked at the hospital, I held 2 part-time positions with them and never had a problem.
On the noon news they were interviewing the babysitting....sm
man whose wife was too distraught to talk on camera. Seems as though when the child's mother was told of her son's death she admitted that they had had problems with him unlocking doors and walking around in the middle of the night and failed to tell this to the couple/friends that were watching him. She gave birth to a girl on Sunday and her son died today. What a tragedy.
nuther question about interviewing - this one about MT positions (sm)
I have been working at home for the past 13 years. Went from working in the hospital (next to the morgue in the basement - isn't that where all the Med. Rec. departments are?) to an at-home position with the same hospital to an at-home position with a national company. The dress code of the MTs still in the hospital is very lax (to the point where flip-flops are allowed and no stockings!). When I interviewed 25 years ago I wore a suit, stockings, etc. Once I had the job I relaxed to pants, stockings, and casual shirt/sweater but never flip-flops. What are you all wearing on job interviews these days? I'd be inclined (possibly) to wear a pant suit rather than skirt or dress only because that's not who I am - I'm a casual pants and shirt type of person but would put on the pants suit for the interview. However, since I've been out of the loop for so long, are dresses and skirts still the norm for job interviews?
Glad to see MT Week recognized here. My company did nothing this year. We have always sm
received a nice gift in the mail in the past. I'm not saying I expect an expensive gift or anything, but a thank you of some sort would have been nice. I waited to post this, holding hope that maybe they were late like last year in sending stuff out, but I have pretty much given up now. Thanks MT Stars!!
Hired by new company and started training today.
Should have trained yesterday, but no one contacted me. So of course, I contacted them. During training today, their foot pedal did not work. When their tech put their software into my computer last week, he said he "fixed it" so that their software would work with my firewall turned on and that my autocorrect would work with their software and I wouldn't have to re-enter 3000 shortcuts. Well, you know the rest. No autocorrect and I cannot access their system with my firewall turned on. Plus I can't work because the foot pedal doesn't function. With all that the MTSOs demand of us, you would think that they should have at least some of their act together, no?
Read the company boards, posts about them today.nm
But can't a company say I need these jobs by X time? And then the IC can accept or decline?
:+
(Actually, Company-Board isn't that great a place to look for jobs -
No mssg.
Did you look at the company board? Just scroll down the page for posts from yesterday and today!

I work 7 days a week because I work 3 jobs.
Workaholic here who would seek counseling if I had the time. hahaha
Is there engineer week? Astronaut week? Veterinarian week?
x
All I know is it caused the company I work for to be unable to do all work due today and the rest

Typically this week is a slow week in lots of places
because it is a big vacation week. Typically things slow dow a bit in the summer too because people are putting off elective surgery, but at the same time lots of people going on vacation so it should balance out.
Lowest runs $900 week, highest $1400 week (sm)
Get paid 12 CPL. Been doing transcription for about 12 years.
HELP with Shorthand. Suddenly today when I tried to start work today.sm
my ShortHand would type only the first letter of an expansion and then take all the letters away! I checked and the Type It button is grayed out! I have restarted the computer and looked on the Shorthand Help menu but can find nothing that applies. Can anyone please help me ASAP? I am lost without it! TIA
Perhaps you are right. This one is dated today. The original article was on Yahoo today also with
But this article states it would only affect new customers right now. So I am upset over nothing. I went through heck with BellSouth when they charged me a surcharge of an extra 50 a month and then would write a letter saying I had to switch to a long distance service and pay by the minute because of my "excessive" use. They told me the unlimited charge was for an average of an hour a day not somebody who worked out of their home and I needed to switch a business plan at over 200 a month charge. I switched over to cable because of that and then to read that cable was going to charging on a per use fee and not a flat monthly fee it upset me. It is the nature of our work, VR, only paying for VBC, having headers and footers taken away, now being charged for being on line, etc. It just seems that everything is done to keep to insure less money.
supposed to be, after people lose their jobs, they are forced to take part-time, lower-paying jobs..
with little to no benefits. service jobs. where are you going to work in a few years, when Medical Transcription is replaced by technology? McDonald's, Walmart? you really going to like that?
Several jobs on Monster & CareerBuilder for inhouse office jobs down there through an

I did 3 jobs for a while about 3 years ago, you burn out quick, I was doing 3 MT jobs though...after
10 months I cut down to 2 as I don't like to have all my eggs in one basket. But I am considering going down to 1 in September for my sanity, its a good steady job so financally it should not be an issue. I have 2 right but have not worked the 1 in about 3 weeks due to some problems at their end, supposed to learn a VA account but not sure if I want to pursue it right now or not, they are waiting to hear from me at this point. I still have a lot going on with chemo, etc. so am mulling things over. But if you have a full-time day job, then I would just go with 1 part-time MT job at night, unless 1 is during the week, and the other weekends only, then of course you will be working 7 days a week, very tiring I know. I have been working 7 days a week for 3 years now but I do slack off now and then of course to recharge and get sleep etc. But burnout happens fast and I doubt you want to lose your day job so be careful. Good luck.
I work 6 days a week every other week
Due to my company's payroll (it runs Sun-Sat), I'm able to work a rotating schedule with every other weekend off. Week 1 I work Sunday through Thursday with Fri, Sat, Sun off. Week 2 I work Monday through Friday with Saturday only off. Then I'm back to week 1 and get that following weekend off.
I've found that I'm more productive with shorter shifts and I have kids in school anyway, so I work a lot of split shifts during the week. If possible, you might want to consider cutting back your hours to 30 hours and just work five 6-hour days in split shifts, 3 in the morning and 3 in the evening.
Two jobs very common, 3 jobs not unheard of.
x
Yup! Not only short jobs, but also jobs from
extremely difficult dictators, bad sound files, jobs that need lots of ADT info added, and anything else that is not "easy" to do. I also questioned them about this and was told the same - they do not allow cherrypicking. Definitely not true!
What Company is This? I have been hired by a company that is sending a foot pedal.. Don't want t
.
The company cutting cpl, the company stopping paying for headers
:{
Good of the company? As IC, I am my own company. Not my problem if she has problems as long as I do
:P
Accepted a job with a new company, gave two weeks notice to my old company..
Old company, let me go before two weeks was up. New company, said they were having trouble getting me set up and my equipment ready, but they would pay me while I waited. It's been a month, still no check from new company even though I was told it was "in the mail." I have no income and am at a loss.
I have a signed offer letter from the new company, contracts, etc. I applied for unemployment, but old company is saying I quit and technically I am currently employed with the new company! New company is not returning calls or answering email.
What should I do!?!?!?!
I started sending my resume out today, but the process of getting a new job will take at least two weeks and I need money now to catch up on what I'm behind!
You don't want to work for this company. Call your current company and
tell them that you have decided against the new position and tell them that you would like to stay. It is cheaper for them to let you stay than to train someone new. A company who could be so tacky as the one you just spoke of is one you do not want to work for. You can rescind your resignation. If you are a good MT, they will be glad you did.
With my company, ICs use their own emails, employees have company email.

COMPANY INQUIRIES belong on Company board, please!
Goldbird
....3 months later my old company rehired me; can you return to your 1st company?
nm
Local radiology company, not transcription company
who has only 5 transcriptionists and are not hiring at this moment. We all work at home and get great benefits, no insurance out of pocket and 22 days paid vacation in the first year, after that it goes up. I feel very fortunate to have found them, but again I chose them because they did not do production, so now that they are, I'm a little disappointed.
I think it varies greatly from company to company...sm
I was hired five months ago by a national straight out of school at 8 cpl. I think it just depends on your knowledge level and ability, and of course, what the company is willing to pay.
i think it varies from company to company and/or location
VR company? Not when the MT company owns its own VR equipment. n/m.
