Oh...you're just STARTING as an IC and it's with MedQuist. THat explains a lot. Wait until tax time comes around. I'm sure you've maybe? heard all about Medquist on these and other boards by now.
Wait until you've actually worked there a year and tax time hits and then let us know how you feel. Depending on the state you live in, you could pay up to 50% of your income to state taxes.
1.) If you find the right company they will be flexible with benefits.
2.) Why not work for an employer that provides you with a new computer/equipment. That's not better savings for you? You need all the writeoffs you can get when tax time comes around. Save EVERYthing. Check with an accountant now because some things you can only write off as a homeowner. Renters do not qualify for a lot of tax writeoffs. Check with an accountant now, trust me.
3.) Medical bills are astronomical. I hope you don't get sick.
Hun, you think it's a good thing but there are much better options out there for you. It's good that you're happy, but I hope you're happy come tax time.
BTW...you do know MQ has 3 class-action lawsuits against it? And they offshore heavily, etc. etc.
Do your time there, but after tax time, you might want to reassess.
Do think about meeting with an accountant ASAP, though. Otherwise you'll find yourself in deep water come tax time. The money you put aside for a "rainy day" is going to go to the govt.

 if you had all the best accounts in your livelihood taken away and were left with the dregs, you'd be a little annoyed at anyone who had benefited from that who then had the audacity to try to then insinuate themselves into this one precious place that is supposed to be just for us. I know, run-on sentence.
