Lucy, we use the EditScript MT platform, which is what you're referring to, I believe...sm
All in all I think it's pretty user friendly. It has the audio player built into it and it also handles all the downloading and uploading of the voice files and completed reports. It also has a search function that allows you to search old reports, which is really nice. The downside is that it only works with Word 2000 or 2003, not 2002, and it's a little sensitive to interference on your Internet connection. Also, although they say it will work with dial-up Internet, we have never been able to use it successfully with dial-up.

You just have to be careful which version of Works you're buying. sm
Plain Works does not have Word at all, only a word processor that "looks" like Word. The Works Suite has Word 2002. To get Word 2003, you have to get the Works "Plus" 2008 version.

Hi. I'm a Transcriptionist for AT&T. Basically I transcribe sound files taken from surveys. I have over 3 years experience at this company. I left last year to go to another job which didn't work out. When I came back, six months had passed, so they rehired me as a new employee. This even after I left the company as the night supervisor of transcription with a three month notice of resignation. This wouldn't have been so bad if my pay rate as a transcription supervisor wasn't 10.00, and I was dropped down to 8.00 upon returning. Then again, it wouldn't be too bad making 8.00 if I didn't do double and triple the production of everyone else in the department with a 98% accuracy rate.
Here's my point. I have been wanting to get into MT for some time now. I have been doing research and gotten a lot of feedback about how you need to pick Andrews, M-Tec, or CareerStep to get a good job. Honestly I was leaning toward M-Tec, but of course you have to have money to make the money, right? I was going to try to take out a loan to afford the almost $4,000 tuition fee, but I'm not sure how that will work out with my GREAT credit score and this booming economy we have going for us. So tell me, should I be pushing to make my way into M-Tec, or should I check out some other schools? I need some unbiased opinions if possible, i.e. no recruiters and all that jazz. I'm about to have my first child, and now more than ever I'm feeling the pressure to have a future that will take care of her future. I really want to get into a field like this, so that when I'm accomplished I can work from home. Not only that, but I think I will be very good at it. so yeah... suggestions, comments, criticisms welcome!

Your wording is confusing.
An IC would DO work for a clinic not work at and you would not resign as you are not an employee - that is an employee term. I would simply tell them you are cutting back on the amount of work you can handle. You control the amount of work - not them if you are truly an IC.

If I had meant new MTs, I would have said so. So, to be clearer, I define wannabes as the individuals who claim to want to be MTs but fail to deliver the necessary skill set. This would not include individuals who understand what skills and knowledge the MT vocation requiresand know how to apply that skill set in their delivery of quality work.
I am going to look into their specific wording on this today
and post here tomorrow what i find.

Please inform Dr. XXX that in the future any dictations that are done in the swimming pool area, karate room, cafeteria or other public venues will not be transcribed by this service. This decision has been made due to the fact that the dictation is difficult to hear and understand because of the amount of background noise.
Additionally, I believe this to be a breech of the confidentiality of patient records that are mandated by HIPAA and I do not agree to be a part of such violation.
Any future dictations that are submitted by this physician which have been done in the above-named situations will not be transcribed by this service and will be immediately discarded.

There is a new doctor in one of the practices with small children and she's one of those who is trying to be supermom. (That's a whole other issue.) I have transcribed for two other (male) doctors in this practice for over 15 years without anything like this. I have twice now asked the office manager to tell her about this situation and it improved for a short while but today I had 18 minutes of very loud swim practice in the background. Her solution appears to be talk louder and I've got one HUGE headache after listening to her. I don't understand why she has to be right there instead of even finding a quiet spot to do this while the kids are occupied but she apparently thinks they can't be out of her sight. (I know they're unsupervised, either; I can hear the coach shouting.) Among the reasons listed above, I really want to say that I think this is just flat out disrepectful of both patients and myself but I don't think it is wise to get that personal. I really don't want to lose this practice but I honestly am not willing to put up with this nonsense from her anymore, either.
Thanks in advance for any HELPFUL suggestions you might have. If you're not willing to help, that's fine, too, but please keep the mean stuff to yourself.
Need help on wording to Google area hospitals that hire MTs at home
Everything I put in gives me sites like MTDaily, etc., that have stuff about work-at-home programs and work-at-home information. I would like to find out which hospitals here in my area hire MTs to work at home so that I can apply as I have just found out that my company is about to sink. Any advice appreciated. Thanks.

Original poster - I completely agree with this answer, especially the part about finding yourself and using all that you have learned intellectually and connecting that to something that you will also enjoy with your heart!! You have so many wonderful options for your future - much more than many of us.
Which ones are you referring to?
There are people complaining about their companies not paying on time, the platforms they use, changing to voice recognition, not recognizing loyal employees, running out of work. They all come from different companies. Are they ALL disgruntled employees? It's just as sad that some MTs can't recognize that there ARE problems with companies and have to lump all complainers into the disgruntled category.

I'm not exactly sure what you are referring to, but
If you are talking about picking a different encounter (perhaps a different DOS), just delete what is in the encounter box and type in a question mark and hit Enter. This will take you to all of the patient's encounters and you can select the one you want. At least this is how it works for me.

That was the worst experience I've had by far. Team leads were friendly, but big liars. Upper management...the nastiest people I've ever encountered. I feel sorry for their recruiter. She certainly doesn't belong with that sour bunch.

my footpedal, headset, keyboard and mouse...i have a new laptop that i'd occasionally use for work, needing all these. If i had previously attached them to the laptop, was wondering if i'd damage anything or if they would all work, if i didn't shut down equipment before putting these things back on the laptop (which are usually on my desktop version); and wondering too if i have to do anything before un-attaching them. thanks.

post, that it was b*tchy. Just stating the facts! Supporting each other does not mean putting down your profession all the time either. We're supposed to encourage and lift others up. I know everyone complains sometime and has a bad day, but not everyday. Put it this way, if you are having more bad days than good, it's time to move on! Life is too short to be so unhappy!

as the other poster who was judging. I haven't judged anyone on here. I did state what I thought to that nasty poster who said that if you aren't making good money it is more than likely you. If you are doing good I am happy for you. Some MTs do have plenty of work, and that makes a big difference. If the work is not there, you can't very well make any money. I certainly would never suggest you pad your lines or any of those other things. I try not to judge people.

I'm happy to share what has worked for me.
I have used VR before; not currently using it so it would take a while to get back into it. Yes, it can produce some great results but it takes a lot of investment from you to get it there -- training it to recognize your speech, etc.

It also stated that the foreign medical graduates have to take an English profiency exam, NOT that they will NOW have to take one if the new test guidelines occur. The new requirements are that they have to take the United States Medical Licensure Examination (USMLE) Step 1 and Step 2, the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) and the Clinical Skills Assessment. This is before they can even begin a residency in the U.S. Might be nice if you had some reading comprehension skills.

we can use with ctrl-S. In the expander, isn't there a standard capability? I think what I wanted to do was save a report using that. The report did save, but then I wanted to edit it, because I really just wanted ROS and PE. I was doing H&Ps and she kept (very wordy) saying the same thing over and over and over. But once I saved it I wanted to edit out the parts I didn't need and I couldn't do it, didn't know how to do it.
Does that make sense to you? With MTs or Legacy once you saved or created your normal you could edit it. Is it possible?

I have a newer laptop that requires an ExpressCard (very similar to the PC cards-just latest version) and I had hoped to drop my dial-up and go with just the ExpressCard (based on a cell phone connection as you mentioned).
I work live, on-line, on a platform (which the platform co. said this card would work). Are you saying this won't work??? Is it because your connection gets dropped all the time or ???
I have been waiting and so excited about getting this new card (which may be out yet this month) and dropping my ISP for faster connection and being able to go mobile (as we camp a lot in the summer) as I hoped I could eventually do this hoping to be a "snowbird" some day. Please tell me this will work. :D
