Sadly and alas, yes, it is always going to be this hard and even harder. MTing is a dying profession. You are now competing with people with 30 years of experience. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I do not think newbies will have much luck. The market is flooded right now with people looking for jobs. As for that organization formerly known as AAMT, they really won't help you much. Many of us old-timers credit them with supporting the very things that brought the profession down--offshoring, etc. I wish you luck, but would also advise you have something else on the side to augment your income.
