a holiday, they want every school break to be off with their children, they have to go on a field trip, they need to take Bratleigh to the doctor, on and on.

Taking a full-time job is great for them with full-time benefits until they are told they have to work some weekends or God forbid CHRISTMAS....what about the chilllllldddrennnnnn......

Message for those who aren't mothers...sm

I hope you made it through the day yesterday without it  bothering you that  you're not a mom.  For many years I'd try to avoid going to the stores around Mother's Day and having clerks say "Happy Mother's Day" and avoid church because of the Mother's Day recognition because it emotionally stung that I wasn't married or a mom.   My heart breaks for a good friend who had a miscarriage 2 years ago and is now infertile as she hates the "happy mother's day" wishes as it brings up the sad emotions.    I can't even begin to imagine how painful that must be for her and others who have shared the same misfortunes.

I'm now 43 and am now a foster mom so while I don't have any biological children  I do have a precious child living with me.    I'm sure that her mom was sad yesterday that she chose drugs over raising her child and lost custody because of drugs, but I am grateful that  I'm able to use my motherly ways with her.

Message for those who aren't mothers...
I have 2 goldens, 1 Shelties, and 3 cats. Do they count? I love them and they love me! I buy them food and fix their meals. In the evening they get a pseudo raw diet and marrow bones. I take the dogs to obedience, agility, and handling classes. I bring them to the vet. I make sure they have plenty of tennies (tennis balls) and woobies (toy they can rip the stuffing out of) give them unwanted baths, cut toenails, scoop up the yard, play with them, give ear scrunches, belly rubs, give out meds to Taz Duh Golden (dumber than a box of rocks) who has severe heart disease (subaortic stenosis and cor pulmonale), and my heart is torn when any of them make their journey to the Bridge.

So, in a way, I am a mom. Only difference.....mine have 4 legs and not 2.

Happy Mothers Day from the staff at MTStars! May you have the best day!

What a very sweet surprise! Happy Mothers Day

Why only young mothers who want to earn extra?
Why this statement? What about us older ones? I just do not get that statement because I would think experience counts a lot in this job.
And I thank the mothers of boys who have raised them to respect women.
dd
Mothers volunteer as "aides" at their children's schools
supposed to help, not hinder.
Most daddies don't die. It's the breeding with losers that makes single mothers...
and you need to replace your crystal ball, because it's cracked. I happen to be very happily married with NO kids and LOVE it. Now, some of you will start squawking that I'm bitter because I don't have kids, but I assure you I am grateful every day of my life that I don't have to deal with kids, especially when I read on these boards how unhappy so many mothers seem to be.

If I'm harsh, it's because I've gotten the short end of the stick SO MANY FREAKING TIMES in my working life because of single mothers who expect and get preferential treatment, while those of us w/o kids are expected to pick up the slack. And guess what? I'm SICK of it.

Mothers covering for childless women? Don't make me laugh!! nm

Bravo!!
Thank you for your post!!  The truth!!  Please continue to tell it as it is..maybe one day some will be enlightened..Once again, thank you..
Bravo!

I've always thought it was unrealistic to expect all teenage high school graduates to know what they want to do with the rest of their lives and to be able to pursue a college degree based on that knowledge (although I acknowledge that's 100% true, as some grads do know).  I'm 53 and I'm still not sure what I want to be when I grow up!

I think the events described in your post happen a lot more often than not, and when they do occur, it IS a waste of money.

Life is a work in progress, and people change drastically over the course of it.

Again Bravo
On a gross line a/c I work on I avg 320-340 lines/hr when actually typing, using all my own shortcuts and saved text. But you are truly awesome. I'm fairly new to MT work so still working on them, but I truly hope to be where you are some day.
Bravo! :)

Bravo!

BRAVO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think YOU should run for President!!!

Bravo.... :O) NM
NM
Bravo! Well said.

Yes, instead of being petty, envious and annoyed - celebrate with our typing sisters and brothers - we are all trying to make it work moneywise.  Share the knowledge of increasing line count.  That is what everyone wants to know anyway. Good for you!

BRAVO for you

BRAVO!!!!
We should email this out to all the top companies!
Bravo, thanks!
I love the look of the Mac, plus the idea that it's almost as portable as a laptop. Thanks! for the info, now I have a goal.

BRAVO, BRAVO!
I'm with you on that one!!!
Bravo....well said! nm

Bravo!!!!
You are 100% correct. Offshoring is all about cheap labor and not better quality. I could point out a million examples but two are toys made in China and Microsoft's technical support! Not quality, just cheap junk!
Bravo. Well said! nm

Bravo !
Bravo! Braavo ! Bravo !
Bravo to you Fed Up!
I also earned a B.A. in English and worked for many years as a writer/editor before becoming an MT 17 years ago, so the concept that anything written in the BOS would trump the basic rules of the English language is absolutely absurd to me.
Bravo

I watch my friends spend all this money on clothing, gas and food while I'm at home in my sweats and T-shirts and a tank of gas will last for weeks when my daughter is out of school. I cook enough dinner to have leftovers for lunch.

When the weather is bad, I'm not trying to get home, I just keep on typing (unless the power goes out of course).  So all in all, I can't complaint even though I do at times LOL.

Another benefit of this job I would say is that you can work for as many companies as you can handle unlike there being a conflict of interest say if you are working for two grocery stores in the same area.

Bravo! Some of these companies (sm)

can cost you a BUNDLE, especially after a few NONPAYING companies in a row.

Now that certainly followed the thread! Bravo! Thanks for
that totally coherent thought.  When there is a thread on make up or hair color, do you post on the the War in Iraq? Probably! Perhaps the OP (original poster) who asked about working at home with a newborn had something to do with the topic being babies and...working at home! Imagine that!  Pardon us all for staying on topic.
I ASPIRE TO BE YOU!!! BRAVO
Wow and wow some more. I am truly in awe. I am very fast and make more than most people, but it is truly inspiring to see something like your figures. I now have reason to push forward harder.

LOL LOL and BRAVO!!!!!
Bravo! Right on the money!!!
mnmnmnn
Bravo, Patti!!
Smart, energetic people like you who are willing to put the effort into finding the niches you have described will always fare better than those who prefer to take what can be had with no effort.

You're right. Your detractors are jealous, but probably not enough to go out and hustle and do what you did to get what you have. They would rather tear you down and try to believe that what you have done cannot be done than put some effort into making their own lives and incomes better.

You go, girl! People like you will always come out on top, regardless of what happens to the MT profession down the road. Congratuations!
Bravo!! Very well said and I agree sm
and I'm not even a breeder. Have had dogs for years and have never been bit or growled at nor any member of my family.  They've been smothered in love and affection along with discipline and are remarkably well behaved compared to other dogs I have seen. They will always have their special place in my family.
Bravo - say it louder!
I too know what it feels like to be a "good MT" in an on-site setting.  I, too, have come home to "pasture" and am making more due to the office politics and poor management (my manager was not MT at all), feeling better about myself, and do not feel I have to prove anything to anyone or smile at "back-stabbers".  Ya' know, I could always help in other areas of my department at the hospital filing, answering phones, even assist with patient transfers (until the hospital said this was not allowed), yet NO ONE and I mean NO ONE could help me do my job!!!  Okay, I'm done!  I loved your post!      Keep up the good work (at home).  At this point in my life, I know I am better off.
BRAVO! I agree!! (nm)
nm
To Laurie.....Again Bravo!
I agree!

How much time do MTs dedicate to their job, who are willing to start a big, revolutionary campaign regarding the MT business to stop offshoring?

Maybe they should really work in another industry.

People who are not even ready to pay for a mentoring program? Come on! And refuse to give back the computer that was provided by the company because they worked so 'hard' and do not think that they were compensated enough? Where is their integrity?

It is a business and a f r e e market. Don't these people ever get it?

BRAVO...EXCELLENT INSIGHT!! nm
x
BRAVO!! It's about time they got the message that
Good, good, good!
Bravo! I completely agree.

Bravo! I guarantee you will feel better in time
NM
a lot needs to change...Great posting! .BRAVO.
I specifically liked this statement:

Why are MTSOs so afraid to approach a lousy dictator?
Bravo! Good post. I totally agree. sm

I too have been in this business for a long time (almost 20 years).  I also have a good friend who is an RN who will ask me questions about certain things that she hasn't read up on because it is not in her field of "expertise".

If someone I know says something like, "I have this pain that won't go away. . ..", I say, "you need to make an appointment with your doctor.  If someone says the doc put them on a drug and can't pronounce the name, I can give them the correct way to say it.

But in my experience, I can tell (in my areas of expertise) when something is wrong.  I would never say, "I think he has this or that."  I would say, "I really don't like the looks of that and it might need to be looked at by the doctor. Even if I do know from experience what it may be.

In the case of an NP ignoring the MT's concerns, I find that disturbing.  That seems to say that personal objections are getting in the way, which should never happen in the medical field, regardless of what level you are at, if there is even what may apper to be a valid concern.

Bravo! 1 cm no 1-cm. Follow-up no follow up. 1 mg no 1mg. 1 space after period, no 2. S
dd
I get my work from an FTP site that they load the work to, however I don't have pool work so to
speak, but I tell them how many minutes a day I want.  The work is generally put in my box by 5 pm every day, then I have until 10 am the following day for some priority work, or 3:30 pm for the rest, so TAT is not too bad. I would like to work less at night though, but I working on that. My downside is I do not get the same dictators day to day, there are a few I do on a semi-regular basis though, some generate great lines but take longer to do that other doc's and are not "money-makers", I also do not get paid for spaces so that hurts a bit too.  This is WP5.1 too.....so very antiquated but that is what the hospital uses, so not much choice there. But I understand what you mean about the C-phone. I was just doing another job with C-phone recently...they incidentally did not tell me how to get off of the system, which was very simple.  I'd finish a job, then hit stop and hangup if I wanted to get off or quit working.  That is what you need to do if you want to sleep, eat, etc.  Don't feel guilty, do what you signed up for, believe me they watch the pools and will get others to do the work you don't finish.  If they get on your case remind them that you are only PT and only want 500 lines a day, etc.  It's not worth killing yourself over.  Good Luck.
You go by your schedule and have no work. Everytime I get on to work, there is always work.
x
Then you would have no life at all except work, work, work if you did that. I wouldn't do it. nm
.
Same thing with nationals. You work all the time to keep the account caught up when others dont work
and then when they decide to put a whole lot of extra people on your accounts and run you out they could care less about how much you worked.
