The following is a post from the archives.  I couldn't have said it better myself.

"I don't belong to AAMT, never have, never will. When I worked for a hospital (in the 1970s) they sent around post cards to get membership - FREE MEMBERSHIP. Then they came out with the FREE NEWSLETTER and had transcriptionists send in words, phrases, new meds, new surgical instruments, summaries of new procedures and the like. Then, the newsletters and membership were no longer free - they claimed publishing costs - which I could understand - but I still did not join - much to the dislike of my supervisor who thought it would be a good idea if all the MTs joined.

Well, shortly after that the gals at the AAMT - I forget their names but you would all recognize them if you saw the names - started publishing books and charging big bucks for them - NOT IN THE NAME OF AAMT but in their own names. They made a fortune! And they made that fortune off the backs of the MTs who sent in the word lists, new instrument lists, new procedure lists and the like FOR FREE. That's when AAMT started to really change. The greed just went to unspeakable levels and the next thing you know the certification fees went up, the dues went up and so did everything else.

However, you will remember that this was supposed to be an organization to HELP TRANSCRIPTIONISTS do a better job and MAKE MORE MONEY. So, a bit longer down the line, AAMT sold out to big business and started sponsoring AAMT meetings around the country (COSTLY MEETINGS) and they published BOS - the biggest bunch of ******** to ever hit print - and they expected us to fawn all over it and just follow what they said - whether it made any sense or not and which obviously flew in the face of conventional grammar, punctuation and English language skills in general. And some people did fawn all over it - like the QA editors with no education who use BOS as their bible. What the heck ever happened to a conventional book of style or medical dictionaries for that matter - BOS/AAMT tried and are still trying to get us to use their screwed up book - which is crap and it costs a lot of money - which goes to the money suckers at AAMT.

That wasn't enough money for them. They started training and certifying offshore workers so they could collect more dues and sell more copies of their book and anything else they could do to get more money.

The MTs in the good ole US put them in business and what are we getting as our reward - NOTHING - we are being sold out by a bunch of money hungry, greedy people.

AAMT needs to move offshore and take their books and everything else with them. They have a new crop of people to rip off.

Have a remote garage door opener?
Could have scared the bajeebies out him by shutting it while he was in your garage. Only thing is, you'd be cleaning up bajeebies off your garage floor.

I have a dog that does a very good Tasmanian devil impression, spitting included, when people knock. The people can see her through the door and they usually leave a card or whatever they have and move out pretty quickly.
I just bought a new electric can opener at Wally World

and, get this, it comes with a "Users Manual."

This is the el cheapo $6.74 can opener and I'm thinking "hmmm, am I missing something here?"

My take on this is that if you don't know how to plug in and use a $6.74 electric can opener, there is a very good chance that you probably can't read to start off with.

It's 4 pages!

HOW TO USE: (Page 3)

1.  Raise lever, place can under the guide bar and against the geared wheel (See DIagram A to identify parts)

2. Press down on lever to pierce lid of can (Daigram B). This automatically starts thye cutting action. the can opener will continue to cut until the lid is completely severed from the can.

3 Grasp the can, then raise the lever to release the can.

4.  Carefully slide the lid away from the magnet, using caution to avoid being injured by the sharp edge of the lid.

I'm sure they do this so some stupid bozo won't sue the company because they weren't instructed on proper use of the can opener.
