Average 3000-4000 minutes and no questions asked!

I have used the service for about four years. Like I said in my post above in the previous post, be sure to have a very good internet connection or expect to have problems. If you have a laggy internet, your phone will not respond either.

On average, how many minutes do you type a day?

I am curious to know how many minutes on average does an MT type a day, by either digital or tapes.  And perhaps this is too personal, but how much do you earn weekly with those minutes.  I am also aware it depends on what city or state we live in, which can vary the salary earnings too.

I do enjoy my work as an IC, but feel that I do not make very much.  I cannot complain though, I have plenty of work, I just really wonder if I do not put enough time into typing per day, or perhaps I need to really consider raising my rates.

Thank you.

Also agree, but average 15-20 minutes an hour...nm

The MT average is 20 minutes of dictation/hour

On average 1000 minutes equals how many lines?

You should have asked questions when

taking the position. I used to take a list I prepared myself of questions to ask on my first day. It usually worked out fine.

I just asked a simple questions...thanks SO much for your help

Mac she asked reasonable questions

For once can you ditch the negativity, try having a positive attitude and be a little gracious??

I asked some questions of the Transform recruiter before...sm
sending in resume. They didn't answer the questions and sent out a general prefabricated rah-rah message about making the right decision to see if we were both a good fit for each other, etc. In it, it asks you to download some program into your computer that will check out the specifics of your system and email them with the info so they'll know right away if your system is compatible with what they need. What the...!!! No way was I going to do that. And then it asks to you to do the 5 tests and the 6 voice files and submit it with your resume. I declined to do everything. Not my idea of how to do business.

What average line count do you type per pay period. what is considered above average and how long

how long, on average, average a knee replacement would one be on Oxycontin?(sm)
My DH recently had knee replacement surgery a month and a half ago.  The doctor has been prescribing oxycontin 30 mg this entire time.  Husband has been trying to wean off of it and is down to 10 mg.  He asked the doctor if he could come off it completely and the doc said to "just keep taking it."  His next visit is in two months.  With all the discussion lately about pain medication addiction, is it normal to be on this medication for this long and for the doctor to say "just keep taking it?"  How long should one be on this med?
I used to say he nursed for 30 minutes every 30 minutes. I was trying to figure
out a way to strap him across my chest so he could help himself while I went about whatever it was I had to do.    I really miss those days too.
Meditech questions and Cerner questions. Any input is appreciated. SM

I just recently went back to work in the office at a local hospital. We type in both Meditech and Cerner, depending on what you are typing, i.e. Medical Records reports versus Radiology.  We are currently typing blindly in Meditech, meaning we do not have access to our line counts and must depend on management to give us our totals.  In Cerner, we are able to run a line count report and print out a hard copy of our line counts at the end of the day.

We are finding that 800 lines in Cerner equals about 500 lines in Meditech.  We are not paid per line nor do we have an incentive plan, but we have a new HIM Director who would like to institute an incentive plan and the administrator over our department has laid down the law and decreed that all transcriptionists not making minimum in the department will be written up.  Problem is according to Meditech line totals that we have been given, that would be about half the department.

The transcription supervisor has taken our concerns to the new director who told the MT Supervisor to hold off on writing people and has taken home all the line counts from the last month and she is going over them with a fine tooth comb this weekend.

I am not a very trusting soul by nature, so I am doing a little research on my own.  I've been in this business for about 15 years.  I started out in a hospital and have worked for a few services at home and am now back in the hospital setting.  So I know a few things about line count and I consider myself to be pretty well informed on trends and technology in the industry.   I would like to walk into our next department meeting armed with as much knowledge as possible.  So I have come up with some questions that I would like some fellow MTs to answer, give opinions, and maybe even direct me to websites or individuals who could give me a better understanding of Meditech and Cerner.  Here are my questions:

  1. Is it possible for an MT to have access to her line count in Meditech or is strictly a management function?  Any MTs that work in Meditech on this board, do you currently have access to your line counts and if so, how do you check them?  Is it an option on the main menu after you log into Meditech?

  2. How is a line defined in Meditech?  (i.e. 65 cpl, with spaces, without spaces)

  3. How is a line defined in Cerner?

  4. What abbreviation Expanders work with both Meditech and Cerner?

  5. Examples of incentive plans (if anyone would like to share that with me that would be great, if not I completely understand).

  6. Measuring productivity by minutes of dictation versus typed lines.

    1. What would be the minimum minutes required for an 8-hour day?

    2. How would one structure an incentive program based on minutes?

I was thinking of presenting the idea that we keep track of productivity using minutes instead of lines since there is such a discrepancy in Meditech.  I also worry that if an incentive plan is put into place and we are still typing blind into Meditech, what's to keep management from shaving off a few lines here and there?

Feel free to email me or post here any responses.  Either is fine.  I really appreciate any input, comments, or just plain old supportive posts would be nice too!

I do over 3000 per day but I know others
a lady I used to work with that could do this, before VR, straight typing so it is possible. Mine is with combination VR and straight though not just straight. The only thing is, the person who typed this much wound up not being able to transcribe, hands went out. I also worked with another lady who I think probably did well over 3500 a day so I do think possible. Wish we all could do that much.
3000
Been there, quality is key, BS is more like it. Go slow and quality pays.
I do about 3000 per day but that is
keeping my foot on the pedal as fast as the dictation will go. I do VR and very little straight and I do not really see how you can get to 4000 a day. I have worked at this for years and years and know the dictators (17 years with this place) like the back of my hand but have never gotten to 4000. I would doubt that also.
Of course 3000/8hr. is possible, with 3-page
templates and fill-in-the-blanks, word expanders, and same docs over and over.  Oh, and not getting the docs on a daily basis who finish a sentence, go back and correct it 5 times to the point you have no clue what he/she is trying to say.  In any case, good with the bad, I still average 200 lph.  Sometimes it's not how good or fast YOU are, but how good or bad they are at dictating.
3000 lines a day
I have been a MT for 35 years...CMT for much of that..an IMT, since the 70s, with my own business...and a FAST transcriptionist...but it is not possible to type 3000 lines a day.  You can and I have done it - but you will kill yourself.  Today, more and more keystroke/characters are being taken away from us and in my opnion you would have to TYPE YOUR BRAINS OUT and still would not make it.  After two or three days at that pace you will be ready to blow yourself up!   I am only max-productive six hours a day, after that it is down-hill..I slow and my quality suffers.  Don't try to type 3000 lines a day, find an account that will pay you well instead - they are out there.
3000 lines per day??
On voice recognition pay that's not much money (about $12 an hour) especially for those of us who don't have the luxury of husbands helping bring home the bacon!
3000 lines
Thanks everyone for your input.  Hopefully I'll have an easy account and will be able to get a lot of lines once I get used to the account.
3000 lines a day with VR?
Does anyone want to share their line counts when using Escription VR?  At 4 cpl a line I would have to do over 3000 lines a day (8 hours mind you) to even begin to make what i did before.  Is this possible??  I just don't see how......
I won $3000 at the casino the other night! sm
That was after I received a forwarded e-mail about the leprachaun and luck of the Irish. I passed it on and it worked! Yippee!
Microsoft wireless 3000

I've been looking.  I'm working on one now.  I LOVE the touch and it's VERY quiet. I hate clacky. I've worked on ones that I couldn't hear the dictation for the clacking; had to keep stopping and starting, listening while not typing.  ack! anyway, I LOVE the touch and non-sound of this but it isn't split, and I'm having a hard time with that.  I'm gonna keep looking

There's a 4000 too, with a hump in the middle.  It's not quite as quiet and the touch isn't quite as easy.

Making 3000 Lines Per Day?
Is it really possible to make 3000 lines per day? If so, how is that possible? I am a very fast transcriptionist, and I use shortcuts to the max;I cannot fathom how 3000 lines in 8 hours is possible. Is there a WAV-to-text conversion program out there that I am missing out on, or what? What is the key to this level of production? I can't figure it out, and it is driving me bonkers.
3000 VR and straight combined
with just straight 2000 per day and that was different accts but like the person below, using Expanders and loads of shorthand, cannot type without it. Just keep your mind on wanting a certain amount, that is my deal.
Check with your CPA--a $3000 tax credit may apply!
We're looking into this as well. Even if we don't go with the hybrid, a purchase of a new, more fuel-efficient auto may result in a $3000 tax credit (versus a reduction, so a wonderful thing) for the 2006 tax year!

I found my comfort zone and awesome account, finally. After 25 years in the MT business, I can honestly say, I am happy doing my job! I have an awesome account, wonderful people to work for, and an excellent line rate.

I have not set hours, no special quota to meet - just get the reports done with utmost quality, keep them in turnaround time and keep the docs happy!

Sometimes, I don't even check my line count. I just work until my account is caught up.

There are accounts/doctors/hospitals out there who will appreciate you, your knowledge and work ethic, who will treat you with the respect you so deserve!

I happened to find one - all MTs can do the same; it just takes a little effort. Believe me, I have been around the block in this profession, working for smaller MTSOs, large nationals, and having my own accounts. It was not easy, but I finally have found "paradise" in the MT profession!

Love it, get at least 3000 lines per shift
and have straight mixed in with it. The salary is low but I can get anywhere from 18-20 dollars an hour or over and so maybe you are not putting forth your best effort? Might also depend on the platform you use. Some better than others.
Can YOU really type 3000 lines an hour?!

That right there is an incredible feat of fingerin'!

Meditech didn't work with my particular short cut program and the lag time was absolutely unbearable, not to mention all the demographic screens to wade through before getting to actually type the report.  I absolutely hate using "F" keys, which leads to more finger fatigue, and the Meditech I used was full of them.  Honestly though, I can't remember if it was "Magic" or the other version of Meditech, as it's been at least a couple of years now.

I do know, however, that I was able to produce 1500/lines per 8-hour day as a matter of course with one word-based program and with Meditech, it dropped down into the 900 range.  It was financially and mentally devastating for me, but again, my experience.

Question about 3000 lines and your hands.
Do they hurt? Maybe I am doing something wrong, but when I sit in my chair for that long and type my hands rebel. Do you do 3000 in 8 hours or how does that work exactly? I'm impressed. I know people will probably come on here now and flame me and say that they do 50,000 lines a day and their hands never hurt... whatever. LOL I am totally impressed by you MTs that do so well. Admittedly, I am not the fastest gun in the rack, but I do my part. I say kudos to ALL of you that can type that much every single day and not let it get to you. I would crawl out of my skin I think!
rephrasing my question about 3000 lines per day (sm)
What I really like to know is if it's possible to type that many lines on a CONSISTENT basis everyday and approximately how many hours it takes. I'm trying to calculate how many lines a pay period I need to make to pay my bills.

Thanks so much
ATT- I was paying $320 for 7000 minutes, I am now paying $175 for 5000 minutes in CA. nm

Depends -- usually 2500-3000 lines per week - sm
though where I work does not have a minimum, but they are considering changing that shortly. Still won't be a firm # as they go by minutes, but the min. will be 60 minutes a day which will be approx 500-600 lines a day.
all work types - 3000 lines a day @ 12 cpl 65 characters
18 cpl transcribed line - private hospital account. These are the only specifics I am willing to give.

Do not e-mail me and ask where or who - I will not reply!

I understand companies are paying 4 & 8 cpl edit/transcribed. I do not work for a company. I caught a hospital account using the platform at the right time and signed on quickly as an IC.

Hope this helps.
1700 during the week, 2500-3000 on weekends

Even if you could do 3000 a day, good luck finding a company

$4000
I think it is very possible. My goal is $1200 a week and if there is work available I generally make it. I do work about 3 hours sat. and 3 hours on sunday. I work for a small company and make 11 cents a line.
Ergonomic 4000
I bought one this weekend, as a matter of fact. I wasn't a fan of the so-called multimedia/internet keyboards before, but I have to say I do like these shortcut button thingies. Circuit City has a web-only sale on it and it qualifies for free shipping I believe.

4000 keyboard
Do you still have this? I would be interested.
I have Microsoft 4000 too...sm
I've had mine for about a month now.  It took some getting used to, but I love it.  I've had several ergonomic split keyboards in the past, but this one is just more comfortable for me... not sure why!  I got mine at Office Depot on sale with rebate for around $25.  BTW, My husband also got one at BestBuy; they honored the Office Depot sale price with no rebate to send in.
Same Here; Microsoft 4000
I LOVE it and don't know what I'd do without it.  Best thing I bought for work.  It took me about a week to get used to it and my speed back up to normal.  It sure was worth it, though!
microsoft 4000 Yes!

I use the Microsoft 4000 and it is the only keyboard that I don't have pain with.  My wrist pain was so bad that I thought I would have to give this line of work up.  I have tried many many keyboards including Goldtouch, the other microsoft ergonomics (2000 and Elite), Belkin, Typematrix, Logitech split, Kensington comfort type, etc. ergonomic this and ergonomic that.  Wasted a lot of money looking for the right one.  But the the Microsoft 4000 was the one.   No more pain.

The one thing that I do is use a mouse bridge over the number pad to bring the mouse in closer and I also got an ergonomic mouse.  The investment was well worth it because it increased my comfort.

I got 2 of the MS4000 keyboards on ebay for about 12 bucks with 10 bucks shipping.  It was worth 25 dollars.  If you are willing to buy from there you don't need to pay 50 dollars and can probably get with shipping under 25 or so.  Good luck.

Microsoft 4000
By jobs, do you mean reports or the whole enchilada? If it's the latter, that's horrible!!! I tried to explain to a former boss when I was having this problem with my keyboard, and she seemed to think I was making it up, but she didn't fire me. I even had access to another identical keyboard and found it had the same fits. That's just awful! You have no control over when it happens. Wonder if Microsoft is aware of this little problem?
question about MS 4000
It looks as though this has one of those wrist resting spots. Is it a problem to use without resting them there (I like to keep them up)? I am looking for a new keyboard but they all look scary! :)

Any further details appreciated.
every question asked on here could be documented in some book. So? cant a question be asked?

Microsoft Natural 4000
I tried the new Microsoft Natural ergo and actually perform my old (Elite) model. I do 400 lph and did not feel that the Microsoft Natural 400 felt nearly fast enough on the demo.
