Audio minute rate - someone asked

I was getting $2/per minute about 7 years ago. I'm getting a bit more than that now (weighted for difficulty) and it's still a pretty good rate. Problem is the dictators I do like to cut and paste from prior notes. With my per-line rate I was getting paid for all of the text on the document including information left in place from the prior report. (Yeah, I know - suhweet!)
Dictated minute works out to be a little bit less, depending on the dictator, than before, but combined with the change in platform that makes everything slower, it's a shock to the system, to say the least. Hope that helps!

Rate per audio minute?
Ok, I've had to do flashdrives with patients on them that have already been typed, lose my nice account to India, re-visit E&O insurance, and now I have someone offering me a job that pays 0.67 cents per audio minute. I'm old, still do tapes, and could any of you new folks tell me, is this the trend these days? Thank you kindly.
audio rate
I've never been paid this way, but it seems that you would have about 3600 seconds of audio time. I have typed reports that long before (even ESL at that) and it only took me at most 2 hours, so $20 per hour doesn't sound too bad. Maybe you can up 'em to $50, though, just to be sure you're getting what your worth.
What do you consider a fair per audio hour rate for MT work?
I am only accustomed to the per word rate in MT, but I know that the GT companies prefer the PAH rate.
I was wondering if any MT companies do use the PAH rate and what would be a fair price if there are indeed any companies using this method.
rate per minute
can anyone tell me what the going rate per minute is? anyone have any experience with this or currently being paid this way?
p.s. if you have an ugly response, don't bother ;)
What is a fair rate per minute ? nm
Per minute editing/proofing rate
Can anyone give me some good numbers here? For editing, if you are paid by the minute of dictation, what would be a high and low pay rate per minute? Thanks for any help on this!
Audio hour charge - what is fair rate to charge company?
Well....he asked me to lower my line rate for him (sm)
which I did....then he asked that I make copies of everything he cc's and copies of the letters he dictates....then asked me to subtract off the templates he uses, even though I am using my ink to print these templates and making changes where he wants....it seems that I am spending more time doing these things than I am making any money. Just don't know what to do. I am not complaining, just need some helpful advice. Thanks
Paid by the minute... new to me... does $1.14/minute sound reasonable?
x
Charge him an hourly rate. The current rate is
between $15-21/hr. according to your location. If he had to use an independent secretarial service, he would be charged much more. You can look in the Yellow Pages in your area under Secretarial Service and ask them what they charge, then charge accordingly knowing you can back it up.
Listening to audio again.
You should hear prompts if the C-phone is programmed to allow you the option. "Press
3 to listen...punch in the job number followed by the pound sign." The audio should come back. You need to know what number they used
to program the function and the job number.
and what number they used.
Yes, the net connection comes right up. Get the KVM that allows audio, too, though, so you don't

Full audio QA
If you do this, then they need to pay you QA pay in addition to line count pay.
You listen to the audio with
your mouse. UGH! I have tested and was a CMT in the past, but for many reasons, I did not renew in 2006. Recently, I have been thinking of taking the test again. I have transcribed so many years with that foot pedal that I am really a mess trying to get through an audio file with the mouse and keyboard. How long in minutes would you say an entire audio was? Congratulations! The pay raise you received is a great incentive!
audio rates?
thanks. I definitely don't want to be shortchanged. thanks again.
Need help with USB plug, no audio
Just tried a new USB headset and now no audio at all. Did what I was asked to do but noticed under control panel it is not acknowleding the USB, saying SoundMax digital and cannot get the USB to show and also under sounds it says no sounds. I have unplugged several tiems, rebooted several times and have no clue as to how to get sound now. TIA.
Audio Codecs
You have to know which codec was used to compress the file and then you can usually find it and download it. Also, try to play the file in Windows Media Player and it may automatically download the correct codec.
DS2 audio format
Joan, the Bytescribe WavPlayer will play the new Olympus DS2 audio format. If I can help you let me know.
getting good audio
I am finding more and more that companies with their own platforms have pretty substandard audio. I currently use headsets and alternate with my computer speakers, but the audio is quite bad on the current platform I use. When using Editscript I find the quality much better. Any suggestions on how to get better quality of sound perhaps a better headset or some other device.
Free audio conversion...
It might be a trial thing, and I can't remember but is works extremely well and is an easy step-by-step thing.

Most places pay per audio hour
Unless it is paying $60+ per audio/recorded hour, it is not worth it. I did this for awhile. It is tedious and hard to make a decent wage.
Price per audio hour?
I would like some assistance, please. Is $60/audio hour transcription a fair and standard wage? Never transcribed audio before so that is why I am asking. Thanks very much for your response. K-O-K-O.
Digital Audio Player?
What digital audio player prints a time stamp in Word?
Thanks for your feedback.

ExpressScribe and audio files
Thanks for your reply. I have used ExpressScribe before, but my predicament is that I need something that will play dictation that has been burned onto a CD. My CD-RW drive is drive D, and I do not know how to get ExpressScribe to load the dictation that is in that drive. Can anyone help?
Has she downloaded the required audio

rates per audio hour?
does anyone get paid like this? I have been offered a job doing general transcription, approximately 6 hours per week, and they pay $40 per audio hour. I have only ever been paid per line so not sure if this is good or bad. I have listened to some of the dictation already and it is not difficult to understand so that part shouldn't be a problem. Thanks.
No old audio files listed
My audio would not even permit 800 an hour
I have it as fast as it can go, never hardly stopping and could never get 800 an hour.
They mean cost per audio hour s/m
Sounds like they are referring to cost per audio hour, so be careful. Depending on quality and dictators, one audio hour can take anywhere from 2 to 10 hours.
fast forward audio?...
what does that mean? and are you really editing all for 99% QA or just fixing the "bigger issues." i'm not being snide, i really want to know your secret; my system is anywhere between regular typing speed to 1500 per report but averages out much lower than what you are getting.
I think people don't understand what an audio hour is.
It's typing a one-hour long tape for $20. If it takes 3-4 hours, that's only actually $5-6.67 per hour. Hmm, I wonder why Guru didn't send that one to me! LOL
Look at Audio Advantage by Turtle Beach
It is a USB thing that looks like a flash drive and it bypasses the sound card. It has lots of settings to adjust to improve sound. I got it and didn't think it made much difference, but then didn't use it for a couple of days and realized that it did make a difference. I got mine at Best Buy for about $30. There have 3 different levels and I think Audio Advantage is the middle one (which was the only one they had at Best Buy). You can Google Audio Advantage by Turtle Beach and probably find their website.
Creative is a good brand of sound card and likely it isn't the sound card that is the problem, just poor quality dictation. The USB thing above will help, but if you don't have good dictation to work work, you can only do so much. If you don't have them also try noise-cancelling headphones. They are rather pricey, though can probably get a good pair for about $60 or less on sale, and they make a significant difference too.
ES is not a transcription application; it is an audio playback app.
ES provides the means by which to obtain and play audio files. You actually transcribe these in any text-editing application.
Some text-editing apps such as Word have provision for counting production such as characters, words, lines, etc. Or, you can use a third app such as Sylcount for the counting function.
Questions like these should really be directed to your supervisor for the best answers.
Express Scribe is merely the audio program
you get audio/sound only - you have to have a different system to send back the work review the census, etc.
I called. No audio hot keys on iPlayer.

I charge $100 per 60 minutes of audio, which works
out to be $25 an hour, sometimes more depending on the speakers, content, etc.
If it is a windows media audio file just .....sm
drag it into your open gear player box. You should be able to play the windows media file there, and use your foot pedal.
I think control+space bar toggles the audio play.
xx
Another good one on Guru today. Pay is $25 per AUDIO hour.
With a 30-minute unpaid AUDIO test file. It sounds as if somebody got behind on their work and needs people to do it for free or minimum wage. Egads! What cheapos! I did an AUDIO hour tape this past weekend and made $100 off it. I could have charged more since it was a weekend stat but I gave the guy a break.
This is wonderful have it on audio has really changed my perspective on things :-)

Her post was deleted and was talking about audio transcription something or other.

Full audio relisten before sending in work
The hospital recently hired a new supervisor for the transcription department. The MTs were just informed that there are quality issues. They have requested that the MTs perform a full audio relisten to ALL reports before sending them in. Not a read over or proofreading on the fly, but a 100% relisten! I don't mind doing this on shorter reports but some reports are 10 minutes plus. This is going to be incredibly time consuming. I feel like speaking my mind, but I like the company I work with and Christmas is coming and this is not the time for me to be out of a job. Does anyone have any advice on how to handle this situation? Thanks!
Anybody using a Web-based editor with an integrated audio player?
Hello,
I'm trying to source this kind of editing environment. Ideally, the player could be controlled by a foot pedal. Thanks kindly for any pointers.
Best,
Frank
Best player for poor quality audio files?
I'm on a new account using primarily .wav and .dss files -- I can use whatever player I want and am currently using Express Scribe (just because its free!) -- but these files are not the best quality, and I wish I had more controls available to try to tweak them a bit. If anyone has experience with any other audio player software that they think is better than Express Scribe, would you let me know? Thanks much.
every question asked on here could be documented in some book. So? cant a question be asked?
x
Crazy question... does Express Scribe actually convert audio to text? Sounds too good to be true..
It does state this on their web site. I was curious if anyone has used this option, and if so, does it really work?
Thanks again~
ME rate 80% of baseline MT rate
are you happy with the 20% cut to do ME work or are you going to just do MT work (which will be those dictators that ASR can't do) at your baseline rate?
Cross off old rate, put in your new rate, (nt)
Employee rate/IC rate......
I work at home for a hospital account that I make .11 cpl on 60-character line. I also do IC work for a clinic where I make .14 cpl. I am from Missouri.
per minute
I do approximately 15-20 minutes of dictation per hour and/or 150-200 lines per hour. So figure from there.
one minute, maybe? sm
I was fast already, so faster, not so sure that I could be much faster without compromising my own comfort level with quality, and I don't want to listen to my docs at a distorted speed rate.
I also have an Advant Prime clicky-kinda keyboard and am just as fast on it but prefer this Atech4 as it is quiet and has programmable keys.
hth!
