Assuming your existing documents are based on the Normal template...

Posted By: sm on 2007-08-02
In Reply to: I have a Word document question. - another IC MT

You can open the Normal template, make the changes you mention, and then save it. When you open your existing documents, they will be corrected. Hope this is the info you're looking for.

You have to change the normal.dot template...sm

Here's the instructions from the Word Help files:

The Normal template (Normal template: A global template that you can use for any type of document. You can modify this template to change the default document formatting or content.) opens whenever you start Word, and it includes default styles, AutoText, macros, toolbars, and other customizations that determine the basic look of your document.

  1. On the File menu, click Open, and then navigate to C:Documents and Settingsuser nameApplication DataMicrosoftTemplates.

If no templates are listed in the Open dialog box, click the arrow next to the Files of type box, and then click Document Templates.

  2. Double-click the Normal.dot file to open it. To be certain that you're working in the default template, check to see that Normal.dot appears in the Word title bar.
  3. Make any changes you want, using the menus and dialog boxes just as you would to change default settings for a document, but remember that any changes you make to Normal.dot will be applied to documents that you create in the future.
  4. When you have finished, on the Standard toolbar (toolbar: A bar with buttons and options that you use to carry out commands. To display a toolbar, click Customize on the Tools menu, and then click the Toolbars tab.), click Save Button.

Note  If Normal.dot is renamed, damaged, or moved, Word automatically creates a new version (which uses the original default settings) the next time that you start Word. The new version will not include any customizations you made to the version that you renamed or moved.

When I stressed the important of having medical documents (legal documents)
on the patient's chart (there are outpatient exams done. Hospital is in the outpatient business), the woman said that if there is a serious finding on an exam, the radiologist will call the referring physician and tell him by phone!

This, my friends, is the result of hiring people who have no real background in the medical field (the lead MT never worked anywhere prior to this job, got on-the-job training and has, through a dominant personality, created a tight circle of workers which are marked up of friends from her life and church services over a 15 year period.

OMG!!!
Template question. Somehow this morning I saved the date and patient name into my template? I have t
deleting the date and patient name and resaving as a template but everytime I reopen the template the date and patient name are still there.  Anyone know how to delete them so that they come up blanks again????  Thanks.
Create your template (save as a template) and use - sm
Control-F9 to make your empty field (as they call it); a set of {} will appear. Save the file, the brackets will not show unless you set it to show the field codes. To jump from {} to {} use F11. You can also preformat the {} with fonts/bold/caps, etc. Have fun.
You can replace the 2007 Normal.dotm with your old normal.dot file. sm
Open the old normal.dot in Word and save as the new file format.

The easy way is to load the oldest version first and then upgrade.

Line-based vs. hour-based requirement
Hospitals do have an hourly requirement, and generally incentive after a certain line level. MQ only has a line based requirement, which is 12,000 per pay period. The hourly requirement is strange, unless they now plan to convert to an hourly pay plan?
I'm completely normal and met my normal husband online. sm
I also met casual dates online (read: real social dates, NOT sex hookups), and all were completely normal. I wasn't meeting who I wanted to meet in the other traditional ways (church, through friends, at work, etc) so I looked online and found someone whose sense of humor shined through in his writing, and that is who I eventually married after 2+ years of traditional dating. We are both college grads, gainfully employed, financially stable, non-perverted, normal people. BUT, I did have to sort through a LOT of personal ads, as there are certainly plenty of oddballs out there, as well, just like in the outside world. :-)
If you currently have no pre-existing conditions and
are just worried about any problems that may occur between now and the 90 days get a temporary insurance.   Deductible is very high, but premium is very low.  You will have to pay out of pocket unless there is a catastrophic event.   You can't get this insurance though if there is a pre-existing condition and there can't have been a lap of insurance.
If you have no pre-existing conditions look into
getting a private policy.  Should be able to get a good one for under $400 and maybe less depending on deductible.
Question about pre-existing exlusions on new

I'm leaving my long-time current MT job.  The insurance at the new job  won't be effective for over 90 days (I"m not sure if it's PPO, POS or HMO).  I will be paying COBRA to my old job in the meantime, though I sure am tempted to go a couple of months without it and hope for the best.

I'm hearing that many insurances are not covering pre-existing conditions.  Is this true even if I  have COBRA? Is there a federal regulation on this or will it vary from company to company?

HIPAA laws require that all pre-existing..sm...
conditions be covered as long as there is NO break in coverage.
Another thought . . . get the pre-existing clause in writing from your employer --

Not from the insurance company itself, because the insurance company may tell you something different from what the agreed-to clause between them and your employer says.

Insurance company interprets pre-existing condition in a different way than your employed agreed to in their contract with the insurance company.

Again, get it in writing from your new employer -- that is what counts -- not what the insurance may interpret as preexisting.  There is a contract between employer and insurance company, and that wording needs to be clarified by HR person handling the insurance benefits.

I think pre-existing stuff may kick in if you have have no certificate of previous coverage.
nm
Here's the deal. The only way to avoid the pre-existing waiting period (usually 12 months) is to
insurances..Even at that, say you have coverage until the end of July miss August and get new insurance September 1, your new insurance cant do a 12-month waiting on you for pre-existing but they can make you wait that 1 month that you didnt have insurance so...in effect, if you new insurance starts on Sept 1..it wouldnt have to cover a preexisting problem until October 1 cuz you missed a month. My advice.. keep the Cobra.. I know it's a fortunate but if you had any kind of complication or anything related to a preexisting and you have to miss a month of coverage..it could be really painful. Let me know if you have any more questions.
Need bridge policy ASAP. Where can I get it? Have SEVERAL pre-existing conditions and meds
Just one medication at full cost is half of the COBRA payment plus I have steroid and Botox injections scheduled. Need insurance. Can anybody tell me where I can obtain "bridge insurance" without going broke?
Well, you know what they say about *assuming*. sm
If the OP had wanted to know those things, she should have asked. the first few other posters did not include all that stuff either and you are just picking on ME. I was not trying to *mislead* anyone and posted later on about the specifics. but now you answer a question of mine...how are YOUR gross lines coming??? or can I assume you haven't done it yet? lol. I am not going to argue with you after this post. You always seem to be stirring things up for every body that posts something you disagree with. and you always *assume* to be right, even though you are not. Your opinion does not matter to me, nor does anyone elses. I posted the truth and you did not like it so you had to start trouble. so I am ending it. drop the subject. move on. find someone else to pick an argument with. I am assuming you are not happy unless you are arguing about something anyway, so find someone else to do it with. I won't waste my time on you. go count your gross lines.
Assuming once again
Actually, I have requested information from AAMT, CareerStep, my local community college, and a couple of other places. I'm on this board to talk to actual people who do this job - not those who are out to sell something to me and claim they are the end-all beat-all for information on it.

I wasn't belittling anyone. If me stating "I wasn't looking to change careers, just make some extra cash, what are your experiences in this field" makes you feel belittled you may want to get some help with your self esteem. My goodness.

Yes, I know how forums work. Of course not everyone on here may actually be whom they claim to be, but it would at least give me a general idea of the field and what to expect. Trust me, I will NOT be going into this field. I think my general view is y'all are nuts!
normal? Normal means you have a.....S/M

There is no *normal* in this life..........

There ARE conformists and nonconformists but normal doesn't exist. Sorry.

You must have a preconceived idea of what *sanity* is, eh?  *lol*

I am assuming there are kiddies, so (sm)
our faves are Nemo, Shrek, Toy STory 1 and 2.  For adults though, just saw Sideways and it's pretty good, but NOT for children.  Have fun! Sounds like a great idea! Can I come?
assuming eye drops
Teargen
I'M ASSUMING NOTHING NEW OR SHE WOULD HAVE INFORMED US
Maybe no changes for SE
And you are assuming I am a liar when you don't know

I'm assuming you are in Illinois?? No?? (nm)

But you are assuming I never made any
money and that, my dear, has never been the case. I don’t work with you, now days no one works with others in this field. I do not have to like the ESLs dictation. I don’t care to visit India because I frankly am tired of constantly having to transcribe. Glad you are working at home doing what you like, being by yourself.
Assuming it's XP or older
Hit the Windows logo button, go into control panel, and from there click on appearance/themes. Go to choose a screen saver. From that window, the bottom half has the power saver options; I believe it says monitor options, but it will also include the options for your hard drives. In there, you can find the choices as to whether or when to shut down the hard drive, hibernate, time to turn on the screen saver, etc. Vista is probably similar steps, but I'm not sure how exactly you get to the screen saver page.

Hope that helps!
Thanks! I'm assuming that was a typo, you
meant *hook up to both MONITORS* I hope....

But thanks for giving me a starting point....I'm gonna ask about that switch the Best Buy near my house...

Thanks again!
I'm assuming you installed the software that came with?
If so, and don't laugh, did you try rebooting? I always do that first before I worry about any computer issues. If it doesn't take care of it then go back and make sure you followed the installation steps exactly. Is it the Mircrosoft Natural Ergonomic 4000? I have that and it's great...only thing I could complain about is it's rather wide, so when I do need to use my mouse, my arm has to reach a little farther, which isn't good ergonomically, but I do everything I can to avoid using the mouse anyway...oops, I digress! Good luck with your keyboard!
The advice to Google is assuming SM
that the MT in question has half a brain and can discern what is a reputable link and what isn't. Or are you saying we shouldn't assume even that much?
I know! And did you see the way she jumped down my throat assuming that I was talking about HER!
Talk about soapbox. But I do agree with you
This is just a sarcastic guess, but I'm assuming by the line - sm
why else would there be so many mistakes. If they were paid by the hour, maybe they would spend more time on getting to know the ENGLISH language. I actually had a report come back from India where instead of the word "children" it said "litter."
You're assuming she doesn't want more children. nm

Assuming you are talking about wireless internet. nm
nm.
I was on it for a long time - it's generall OK, assuming it's
@
That is assuming they could even understand the dictation to begin with.
I would love to see the doctors having to listen to dictation.
Why? It sounds like you're assuming the generated reports contain...sm
incorrect or fabricated information. Such would not be the case in these situations.
I am assuming you are talking about Sheri. What answers of hers are not lining up?
What info do you have that I do not or others? Never heard of you either, American regular MTstarser??? Strange posted by if you ask me.
PC to MAC documents?
How would I send a PC file that can be read on a MAC and vice versa? Please help ASAP.
I just opened Word, opened the template and saved it as a Word template. nm

The MDs are the one signing the documents and
attesting to their accurateness. Not the MTs.

New documents on QNet for MQ MTs

Go to QNet; look under Policy & Governance; click on Human Resources in the window to the right there are two new documents --- MTME Benefit Policy.

It's all apparently still in the workings but they are starting to post documents as they are readied.

Just thought I would share.

You must compare your documents..
with MS-Word Word Count, which is the standard. MS-Word count tool is used by FlashCount.

In case of any problem, feel free to ask.

Compare old documents

Look at some of your old documents and see what your gross line is and then see what they would have been paid if you had been using a 65 cpl.   In word you can do that.  Now some software will count double character for capitalization, bold, underline, tabs are counted, indent and count spaces.   So that will also make a difference.  When one of my accounts was using Sylcount we always counted that way.  I do not think that there is a simple chart to use and since your documents could be very personalized with formatting, i.e. indenting lines which makes a gross line smaller, to me it would be best to compare your specific documents rather than a generic table.    There are a lot of variables (how long is your gross line) and I don't think a comparison table could take that all into account.   But I would think I think an estimation has always been 30% less lines for cpl versus gross.

Legal documents
I worked for an attorney for a while and also have a 2500 page transcript from my BIL's federal drug case and everything was done on legal sized paper - lots of quotes, etc. I wouldn't do editing of that sort of work for $1 a page - or even $3 - $6-$10 - yes. There's probably more money in that than there is in transcription - we MTs just haven't found it yet.
Help please - all my documents disappeared. sm
Has anyone ever had anything like this happen?  Everything that I had stored in my documents folder disappeared.  Any settings that I had specific to my computer are gone like including my favorites on IE, my normal.dot with all my macros, autocorrect entries, etc. for word, all music files, all pictures, and any and all word and excel based documents I had saved.  Interestingly my daughters user ID is fine and none of her documents disappeared.  I have ran virus scanners to know avail so I don't know if it was some sort of virus or hardware failure.  Any ideas?  It is a pain to start all over.  Also, what does everyone use for backup?  This is about the third time this year I have had computer issues and lost everything and I am so TIRED of starting over and kicking my production time in half until I get myself built back up.  I am ready for some type of really awesome backup to assure this does not happen to me again.
Bringing up old documents....
Hi-I have only worked on Extext for a few days and it seems pretty good. I agree with the problem with inserting doctors names though. I am especially interested in finding out how to pull up old documents as I wasn't told about this feature. Can you let me know? Thanks....
Maybe she means that the VR documents
are 'prescreened' for 'quality scare' before getting downloaded to the MT? If there are too many errors, it gets deleted and downloaded blank on the MT's screens?

But this does not make muchsense, does it?

Or maybe if QA finds too many mistakes, it gets deleted and sent back to the MT for straight transcription?

Don't know.

MPWord and assembling the documents into one
Hi,

MPWord does require you do a separate file for each dictation, but it takes the drudgery out of this, for it automatically saves/names the files for you.

It also has a feature that allows you to put all those notes into one file at the end of the day. If you don't need to preserve headers/footers use the Sticky Notes (Append). If you do need to preserve headers/footers, use PDF (Assemble). With either function, you can send your client one file with the day's work.

Has anyone had trouble converting documents

Word 2000.  These seem to be putting a .doc extension after all of my documents now.  Anyone have a fix?  I have an account that I can't use the .doc extension, and when I back that extension off, I get a message saying "this document may not be usable".  Is this a Vista issue?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

in advance for any help in this OMG matter!  I'm about ready to  , and I have just gotten it to grow to a length that I like.

Searching in WP 5.1 documents through Windows XP
I have changed word processing programs from DOS-based to Windows-based programs, but still need to access the old WP 5.1 documents. I am having trouble searching the documents through Windows, i.e., searching for a person's name, etc. inside the document.  Do you have any suggestions?
What file extension do this WP5.1 documents have?
If they're not saved as .doc, Word won't be able to search them; however, you can open them individually with Word.
My Documents is a folder, not a program.
