I don't see ANY benefit from dropping a 6-week-old infant off for 8-10 hours a day at a daycare.  I kept my kids home with me as infants and toddlers.  There was no way I was trusting anybody with my children when they were so young, helpless, and noncommunicative.  However, once kids hit about 3 to 3-1/2, spending some time playing with other kids in a relaxed but well-supervised preschool isn't a bad thing.  I avoided any place that was shoving worksheets in front of my kid at age 3, expecting them to learn 1st grade curriculum before they were ready for kindergarten.  Creative play is the BEST thing for preschoolers, along with listening to books and learning how to be cooperative with others.

So, in a nutshell, I think that putting infants into 50 hours of daycare per week is wrong, and keeping children sequestered and isolated from the world for too long is equally wrong.  I did 4 hrs in the morning at a church preschool at age 3 and 4, and that seemed like the happy medium.

We need to all quit bashing each other on this subject.
