Verbatim stinks! As a MLS, you're educated and trained to edit

You're expected quota depends on whether you are paid hourly or per line. SM

I'm paid hourly and I was told the requirement was 50 or more reports per day.  I've never worked QA per line, but I'm sure their line quota is pretty high, at least 2000 or better per day, as you get credit for every line in every report you QA.

Hope this was the answer you were looking for.

This field has a very high turnover. Be very careful who you work for. Ask a lot of questions.

A crown and bridge tech (porcelain work) pays the best and then denture tech (setting teeth). There are other jobs in a dental lab that pay less, such as a waxer and finisher or processor and are usually based on skill level. Everyone contributes to the finished product. Piecework is production based, paid per unit. There are also metal frame work labs but these aren't usually in a dentist's office. If you have any questions, feel free to e-mail me.

you're correct, it's AT&T
But it's only a recent issue with them. I used their service before with similar problems. Placed a call and was they only needed to increase the sensitivity of my VoIP from their end. They did and the problem was solved.

That was then and this is now.
You're absolutely correct sm
I've had editors tell me that they love getting my reports with blanks because they know they can go directly to the blank and try to fill it in, they say some MTs they have to almost completely re-type the report which takes more time than typing it in the first place.  I know this to be true from my own editing.  I tried to work with the MTs if they could be salvaged.  If they still insisted on not doing their job, I did my job until they were relieved of their work duties.  :)
You're correct on this post!!....sm

I suppose the platform used has A LOT to do with it - I didn't think of that prior to my post back at you.  *S*  I'll have to rethink it all.  But I am far faster on ASR than any regular reports (well, I get tons of ESL as we all do today).

You're quite correct in one sense. (sm)
However, there's little doubt that AHDI intends for the BOS to be a standard, not merely a compilation of "suggestions", and there is very little of its content that they regard as "optional".

This then leaves both clients and MTSOs on the horns of a dilemma when it comes to "adopting" the BOS, namely how its provisions will be interpreted and enforced. It's almost like being a "little bit pregnant" - one is or one isn't. The only alternative is to establish a second set of rules (as one company I worked for did) explaining which of the provisions of BOS would be treated as "mandatory" and which would be "optional". This, of course, only produced another layer of consternation and productivity loss as people had to first consult the company's rules to find out which of the BOS rules they must adhere to.

You're Correct SeasonedMT sm
The line count formula has changed. I can't exactly but my finger on it, but there is enough discrepancy that my "Spidey senses" began tingling fall 2008. I have tracked lines extensively but still cannot pin it down.
You're math is correct. It is obvious
the new plan is designed to reward high producers. There's no away around that fact. If you currently do 1200 lines a day and you want to earn incentive on the new plan, you will have to either get faster for the same hours you work now or restructure your work days to be longer and get more production.

I think everyone has the idea that a new plan means that everyone is going to benefit and that everything is going to automatically be better and improved for all. Not true.

MQ has changed their pay and benefits plan to better increase their revenue. They were not making changes to harm nor help MTs, necessarily. These are business decisions. This is now what they are offering for pay and benefits and we can take it or leave it.

Personally, I believe they want fewer employees, all high producers, and it would be cheaper for MQ to have a smaller workforce of high-producing MTs and pay them overtime than an abundance of low to mid-range producers. This plan will help ensure some of that.

Regardless of what some of the mealy mouths say on this board about me, I am not happy with the way this plan impacts all MTs. Not at all. I'm just not going to be upset about it because every single one of us do have options and those who feel uneasy about this plan should heed their intuition and explore other options.

I think this is the beginning of a slow attrition among the MT workforce.

This is strictly my opinion.
You're absolutely correct - they always pull that card when they have nothing else

You're correct. Thanks! I found 2 on the SOAP transcription site

I wish you were the norm! Can't find 8.5 cpl for experience out here anymore. You're VERY luck

Have you ever been educated?
because you sound very unintelligent.
Not so. I am an educated person, but not

what I call a smart person.  My DH has more education than me and is extremely smart, but has zero common sense, whereas I have a lot of common sense.

I have a brother who has 3 undergrad degrees and 2 master's degrees and signed up to take a course at MIT and they asked him to teach it instead.  The poor guy hasn't got a lick of common sense.  He has 2 engineering degrees and it literally took him 6+ hours to hang 2 pictures.   I also have a sister who graduated the top of her college graduating class and she took hasn't a lick of common sense.  She isn't blond, but we sure get a laugh over the questions she asks sometimes.   She is 8 years older than me, but knows a lot less than me in terms of general fund of knowledge.

I'm educated, too, but you don't see me telling
medical providers what they should or shouldn't say in their reports. You knew this would blow up when you posted it, so don't play all innocent victim here. What does using one word have to do with the patient's privacy? It certainly didn't stop YOU from posting it on the Internet!
So you are educated in the laws of Aruba? Wow.
I sound like I have lack of knowledge about this case, as does Mrs. Twitty.  So, I guess me and Mrs. Twitty should look to you for explanations and answers as to where her daughter is and what happened to her?  Do you have some inside info the rest of the world is not privy to?  I'm just wondering because if not, you are blowing a lot of hot air around and basically just about as uneducated about the laws and the evidence surrounding this case as the rest of us.
I did not know the words educated, experienced, etc.
could only be used by Northerns? I think MTs here fit that bill as well. Thanks for your concern.
It's a sad day when a highly educated doctor can't

I'm talking epistaxis here, ok...not that hard of a word.  She won't even put forth the effort to pronounce words correctly, especially medications, which in my opinion is downright dangerous.  I wouldn't want her for my doctor...way to dangerous of a dictator.  BTW, I never, ever guess on a medication, even if I am confident about what she MEANS to say...so always end up sending hers to proofing...okay, I'll get off my  now...good day all!!!

This stuff should be covered at least a little in your MT program. How are you getting educated? nm

Deep south, educated, experienced too
I think the $12 is very low wages. Would make more than I do now except most hospitals outsourced now and nationals have taken over. I do fine with mine, though. Oh. we are well rounded here in the south.
Up North, experienced, educated, well-rounded MTs.....sm
are making $19.76 hr average plus incentives, production bonus, and bennies....I loved working in-hospital, but right now I have family situations which must come first...no amount of money to sacrifice their welfare.
Think it should be expected

I was a cryptologic linguist when I was in the Air Force. My job involved wearing headphones all day long. They tested our hearing before we started the career field and every year after because the wanted to monitor how much hearing we lost above and beyond the normal age-related stuff. Had an interesting talk with the audiologist about this. Wonder how many former MTs are getting disability for hearing loss?

But isn't that to be expected anyway?

summer because all we use gas for is to heat hot water and to cook on the stovetop.  As soon as we turn on the furnace, of course it is going to increase a lot, even in normal years when the price of gas is not as high.

Same with electricity.  It's a stable amount most of the time but once we turn on the air conditioner, it jumps dramatically.

Yep, we would be expected to
learn their language if we were doctors practicing over there. They should do the same here. Truth and racism are two different things :)

Since you have recently become an advocate for these "well-educated" professionals....
please justify the 20 minutes I had to sit and listen through all because the doc left his hand held recorder on. I actually had to sit there and listen to him urinate AND defecate! Immediately after hearing the toilet flush, I could hear the door open and then several footsteps that led him to meet, greet, and converse some more. I was more appalled at the fact that such a "well-educated" medical professional didn't care enough to wash his germ infested hands after his restroom break. Unbelievable.
Are you sure you're using Auto Text and not Auto Correct?
Auto Text accompanies the template, as I stated before. The Auto Correct entries are in a separate file with the .acl extension.
It is pretty much expected that you will do all that comes to you -
It is often the nature of the beast when you are in a pool. I had thousands of docs at the last place I worked, 4 hospitals all with very different account specifics, and did every work type under the sun for acute care. I found myself scrambling every day to get my lines in and frustrated beyond belief many days. After 2 years of that (and a few other issues with the company) I decided to move on.
What was the expected pay rate?
p
Actually, I never expected an answer--

I was sending him my opinion, expressing my anger concerning the jobs leaving in droves to India and other countries.

I can't imagine the number of letters he receives in one hour let alone one day.  So, I realize I would never be answered.

I just was stating my frustration and anger with a situation.

As I said in my other post, I did call and I talked to one of the phone bank people or whoever answers the phones at the White House.  She was very nice and talked with me a while.  She told me he does get briefed on his mail and phone calls, he wants the good and the bad, he wants to hear how things are directly affecting us individually.  So I let him have it.  I just wanted to add my name to the list of people calling concerning offshoring. She told me many people from IBM who were just laid-off were calling in droves about the offshoring.  So, maybe many voices might at least make some kind of noise. Even if he doesn't listen or doesn't care, it felt good to get the frustration out, knowing I was talking to the actual White House.

My son keeps watching out the window now for the FBI to take me away because I always call and write to Washington.

The handling of Katrina was a shameful disaster -- my heart goes out to anyone who went through that, and is still suffering because of it.  There was no excuse for that as far as I was concerned.

I did send many emails and called about that, too,  Again, just wanted to voice my opinion.

Wondering if VR not working as expected?

Our company has told us the company we use for VR wants to help us to edit faster, supposedly helping us to use the keys instead of the mouth. Now this seems sorta odd to me. I am wondering if the VR is not as satisfactory as was thought and perhaps the MTs are not really able to get reports out as fast as was thought and not eliminating the need for the MTs? Any thoughts on this?

oh good grief. Haven't we heard enuf of this? Educated people are just

to go well over $3/gallon because of the pipeline distribution problem.  The governor has declared a state of emergency and is urging folks to not drive anymore than necessary while they're getting emergency shipments of fuel in.
Saw it. I expected Randall to be the person I though he was... He wasn't!! He is out for himself
Rebecca on the other hand was the classiest woman they have ever had on the Apprentice! By far she out spoke Randall and more importantly she said nothing negative truly about him. Agree, lost all respect for Randall. Though I seriously think Rebecca will be hired by somone probably today she has offers pouring in; seriously for her brain and her gorgeous looks are just a plus!! A Rebecca FAN!!
On the contrary, Christians ARE expected by God to judge sin. sm
There are numerous versus to back this up. There is a verse that says if we as Christians observe a fellow Christian falling into sin, we are to go to that person (in love, not condemnation) and try and guide them back onto the right path away from destruction. How are we to follow God's laws if we do not judge right and wrong? That verse has been taken so far out of context.

WHAT WE ARE NOT TO JUDGE is another person's relationship with God or whether that person has obtained salvation or is saved.

WE ARE EXPECTED TO JUDGE SIN. I'll be happy to dig up the verses for anyone who would like to see them.

Here's the dealio... MTs are expected to be able to hit the ground running.
We work from home.  There is no training curve.  That's just the way it is in the MT industry.  If you want to work from home, you have to know what you're doing.  If it takes you longer than three days to get off full QA, then you belong in an office somewhere getting training from a mentor who has the time and money to train you.  Working from home is all about the bottom line -- the MTs and the MTSOs.  This is career field you've chosen, so get with the program.  Sharpen your skills and quit expecting someone to hold your hand.
BTDT. They expected a heck of a lot from the MT for that kind of pay
All the emails, all the demands, all the changes, ugh. For all they expect and demand, the pay is way too little, not to mention the fact that they need MTs who do SPECIALTY work (cardiology) and should pay the MT a higher cpl than they do currently for that reason alone.
About how many lines are expected to be typed each day, minimum, on average? NM

Never said that typos were acceptable, what I said was is 100% accuracy expected 100% of the time.

Yes, I used to work in a docs office doing this as well as other things and but never had this problem. That is why I am frustrated.  My question was whether or not there was a curve for MT'ing or not.  I guess I just was not clear on exactly what editors/QA were really meant for.  I thought they were more of a saftey net for a TX company to ensure that everythign that goes out is what it should be.  But I guess I was mistaken.

Anyway, I was thinking that maybe there was something else similar in this field that would be an option for me to do.  Since I actually like this line of work, I don't see why I should give up so easily.

Lastly, its just me, but I actually think staying at home with my kids is a perfect reason to do this for a living.  I mean seeing as though I actually do want to earn a honest living doing something that I have experience doing ...why not?  It's better than relying the government for money to support my family isn't it?

I figured she was cheap when she acted interested until I told her what I expected to be paid.
All I could think of was "how cheap can you get" I mean I have 3 years on the very platform she needed help with but when I mentioned a decent rate I never heard a word back. Thanks goodness for small miracles.
Do it correct always. It will learn. Everyone has to do it correct all the time. nm

Experience on top, current experience first. Education second. Leave out ALL fluff.
Recruiters don't need your life story. They need to know if you can do the job. If you want, put your current employer, then state "I have 20 years in the profession doing....." Keep it simple; keep it clean. If you want to go into more detail, do it during the interview. A HUGE red flag is to see that you've worked for 10 different companies, for months at a time. I know that someone who has worked for the same company for 2 years or more is going to have some degree of loyalty and will work through issues rather than cut and run.
If you are careful with putting the correct report in the correct report shell and patient, you will
not have any problems. I only take away this option when someone is careless. There can be NO room for error on this. One mistake can be very serious. Many do it well though, so just double check and you will be fine.
