those furnance box things that you burn wood in and vent it to heat the house?  If you are asking about the latter we don't have one, but have looked into it.  They are about $5,000.00, but other than that I don't know anything about them.

Yes, we just put in a wood stove and turned off
the furnace out in the shop. We know of a guy who gives away free scrap wood, so we're heating the shop for free this year. That'll save quite a chunk of change. I wish we hadn't taken the wood stove out of the house, but it would have cost too much to bring it up to code. Other than that, put on more clothes, extra blankets on the beds, and turn the heat down.
No, have 2 wood stoves and 4 cords of wood that some old guy

I'm burning out...

When you've had major burnout, how did you get over it?  I can't decide if I'm burned out from MTing or if just a change of scenery would do the trick.  Any ideas/experience with this?  Thanks

Dinner? Oh @*&^ something is burning again. :)
Not kidding.  Forgot to set my "office timer" and saved the meatballs just in time.
Does anyone have a corn burning
how do you like it?  If you have a stove, to move the heat all through the house, do you run the blower on your furnace with the thermostat turned way down?  If you have a furnace, did it hook to the existing ducting in your home?  Thank you in advance for your help.
Quiet with a candle burning. Shh....nm

on my magic stove.
:+
I have a Magic stove too...
that is the actual name on the stove. LOL! Some people take thing way to seriously on this board.
I Love My Stove
And would never by one with the other type of burners. I have also had the problems with water spilling over when I boil it on the stove, but just as the other person above said, I have move luck with it coming off if I let the cleaner sit a little while. I wouldn't worry too much about it, though. If the owners have a similar stove, I'm sure the same has happened to them.
Glass top stove
Have used these since the 70s. Be careful what type of pots you use on these. Never use any pots except the ones that are all metal underneath. The finish can come off the pretty red and blue pots and burn onto the stove. Check the bottom of your pots before you use them. If they have food embedded into the bottom, sometimes this will burn right onto the stove. Use the cleaner for a glass top stove. You can let is soak on the spots with a damp cloth on top of it and then go back and rub some of the soil off, but you have to keep repeating this until gone. The razor is okay under certain circumstances. Someone one stuck a contact paper onto one of mine inadvertently, not realizing the burner was on. Luckily for me I had the razor handy and got at it right away, while the burner was HOT. There's a lot of little tricks to keeping these nice. However, I did have one, a GE smooth-top free-standing range where the finish did actually chip off, which turned out to be a warranty problem. If the stove is new, maybe there's a warranty on it? Good luck. Try to relax and don't drive yourself wacko over it.
Stove Top Dressing Meat loaf
with home made smashed potatoes, gravy and brussel sprouts....tomorrow night, sketti and meatballs, made with the extra Stove Top mixture.
Well you should know a magic stove removes ALL the bad stuff.

No need. Bad stuff cooks away on my magic stove. Can't you read???

Save the rollin' your eyes for while you're slaving over that hot stove ; - 0

Is it possible that the stove was new and the thin layer of protective plastic was left on it?

Wood heat, here...

Good thing.  It was 6 degrees here yesterday morning.  Have enough wood stockpiled to last through this winter and halfway into next and I have a +2600 square foot farmhouse.  Also have the LP tank full in case the furnace kicks in.

Now, before I pat myself on the back too hard, let me say that wood heat is a LOT of work and time-consuming and very very very messy.  It's almost like a second job in some ways.

Wood heat here too
I'm so glad we got an outdoor wood furnace a few years back. We haven't had to buy/use LP for 4 winters now. I'll put up with the work as long as I don't have those high oil prices anymore.
Wait a minute, I'm not just talking about the boards, I'm talking about the news article.

Specifically,

"JLG has a contract with Arrendale Associates/ A+Network/CBay Scribe, which the group says is in India.
A letter from JLG to Barbara Dingman, chief compliance officer and director of health information management, says all medical transcriptionists assigned to the Medical Center Hospital account live in the U.S. and all work is done in America."

But yet they do business with Arrendale/A+/CBay, what am I missing here?

I thought there was one to cook in crockpot. Don't have time to do the stove thing today but than
:(
Neighbor has indoor woodburning stove, started house on fire twice. sm
He has vinyl siding and installed the outside pipes himself.  Apparently he is in over his head.  Last year, his siding started on fire and he burnt up his electrical wiring.  When heating season started this year, the fire department was back.  He did it again.  Make sure you have a professional do the work.
yup, 52 here and between m-pause and wood heat
sometimes i purt near melt!!
Wood versus gas, if just using a fireplace
without having an insert or some type of blower most likely you will be better off using another heat source because of the heat loss through the fireplace, unless you aren't using any other heat source.  We have gas heat and prices are expected to increase 70%.  We had gas logs but had them removed because we couldn't afford to burn them even for the mood affect and that was a couple of years ago.
cord of wood, not cords.
4 cord of wood
have used wood heat for 20+ years
and we have moved a lot, so had to install numerous times. My husband does it. You can spend a ton of $ on a stove, but we prefer the little inexpensive 'box' type stove. They radiate heat well, you can cook on them, control the 'draft', etc. THey put out a lot of heat. If you have a stove that needs a blower to distribute heat, you'll be in a lurch when the power goes out. Also, your stovepipe must go i think it is 4 ft taller than the high point of your roof in order to draw the air correctly. You must get the fire hot enough often to burn out the creosote or keep it from building up. Learning how to build a fire can be challenging -- but once its going, the coals generated will make it easy to keep going. and please make sure you use smoke alarms on each floor.
Brother-in-law has been using outside wood furnace
for many, many years and loves it.  It sits out back of their house less than 50 feet (I would guess) from their back door.  They also cool their house with it (need an exchanger of some sort) and heat their pool water.  He is pretty clever and worked out the plumbing for the pool by himself.  They do have to spend part of their summer looking and cutting and hauling their wood supply but they think it is worth it.  Hope this helps.
outdoor wood boilers
If you live in the north, where our temp is currently 11 degrees, investing in an outdoor wood boiler is the way to go. I don't think you can have them in the city, but if you live out of town, wood is definately cheaper than propane. We can fill our tank once a year (approximately $550)
I haven't put wood in microwave yet...LOL....nm

We are paying as we go.... We also have 2 wood stoves, BUT...
the problem you can run into is that your heating system won't call for heat because the inside of the house is warm, then the water in your heating pipes just sits and goes cold and can freeze and burst as it runs along some of the outer walls of the house.  That happened to us last winter and cost 500 dollars to call a plumber out.
Use mother nature's WOOD HEAT !!
and maybe get a down comforter for the back bedroom...
Can I come to your house? I miss wood heat (sm)

That was our only heat source for over 20 years. It started out as a backup heat source, but soon became our only source.  We lived in a 5 room house back then and it heated the whole place.  If it was 5 degrees outside, it was wonderful to walk into the house. It felt like a cozy warm blanket wrapping around you as soon as you opened the door.  I was never cold. We kept a metal box fan behind it to blow the heat through the rest of the house, and a 30 gal soup pot on top filled with water for humidity. I even cooked a lot of meals on top. Had a whole set of cast iron pans, including the dutch oven. Meals were great. The only thing I didn't like was the "dirt" from the wood.

We now have forced hot air. I hate it. I'm always cold. I still have the wood stove but it's in the storage shed. Can't talk DH into installing it in the house. The only time I am warm is when I go up to the garage where my DH has an old Kenmore apartment size wood/coal kitchen stove that I bought for him a couple years ago. Guess where I spend all my free time...

Had a flu shots ::knocking on wood:: and so far so good
Two little neighbor girls came over to play. They told me that they had been ill with the flu. I asked them to come back in a week to play (their mother will not let them come over now...).

I use Word 2000 and have had no problems. (knock on wood).
I used to run it with Microsoft Office, but had too many problems so got rid of MS Office and just run 2000. I have been lucky that when I get .tmp file, I can just delete it. I got so mad when that would happen I was always doing a system restore. What a mess. I got rid of the MS Office and things settled down. I hope this helps.
I'm talking about MT school, not K-12, which is where I learned most of what you are talking abou
My clients DO NOT LIKE IT when I correct their wrong crap - did you actually read what I said?

Agree on the laminate, however, real wood is ruined by water too.

If you were putting
your pie hole to good use, you wouldn't have time to be on this board participating in such foolishness. How old are you?
Well why do you not like putting it where it goes?!?!
rude!
Ah, so this is putting them down!!??!! LOL!
My Post: I don't know..... I know many MTs making that in a month...but in their jammies, don't have to fuss with the makeup and only have to leave the house to go shopping! Oh, and they still get the write offs.

And sorry about the sobering up comment, I just coulnd't for the life of me figure out what you were looking at. And still can't! Many posters use initials sm/nm for see message or no message - maybe that's why you're getting confused : )

Just as I am putting away $ for my SM

later years (I have no children to depend on) I expected that my mother was.  Wrong.  I have currently chosen to essentially give up where I want to live, to be with who I want to be, to take care of things for now, but it won't be that way forever.

I am doing it out of obligation right now, but I don't intend to sacrifice the next 10 or so years of my life to keep doing this.

Putting myself out there

Has anyone ever done this...?

I am thinking about making a bunch of copies of my resume and writing a cover letter describing my abilities........then distributing it to different clinics around the area.

I work from home but want a second job as an in-house Transcriptionist to gain some experience and also because I am not making that much money here at home!

Has anyone ever done this?  If so, have you had success doing it?  How about putting an ad on Craigslist for transcriptionist services?

PS-I don't like putting it over there, but was told had too!nm

My DH was putting together my new desk and he had

gotten to the deep drawer where files go.  He put the frame of the drawer together without putting the bottom of the drawer on.  Fortunately I happened to walking through the room at this point and told him he has to put the bottom in the grooves on one side before he can finishing putting the drawer together.  He tells me that the directions don't say anything about that.  I told him common sense dictates that you have to put the bottom before you put the second side on.   Poor man.  He is very bright, but has zilch common sense.  I'm not very book smart, but have been blessed with my share of common sense and then some, so I guess we made a good couple - LOL.

The best way to help is to be supportive by putting
You didn't get pregnant. You sound very self rightous and with I told you so attitude. A decision to carry the pregnancy, terminate it or give up for adoption is not one to be made lightly or out of guilt because someone forced their own opinions down the throat of someone who obviously needs help. Being condescending doesn't bolster her self image to find the courage to live with whatever decision she makes. She needs support, not degradation, not put downs, not made to feel worse than she already does. This is a decision she will live with every day...not one you will have on your mind every day of your life.

Knowledge knows when to speak. Wisdowm knows when to listen.
By putting up with him and his ways
you are just enabling him.  Sounds like not only are you doing most of the housework, you're providing most of the financial support.  I think he has got it pretty good and as long as you don't give him an ultimatum why should he change.  You're young yet and there sure is better out there.  I'd cut my loses.  I'd rather be alone than with someone like your SO.
Thank you putting another twist on what I am
trying to relay in my post above.  Happiness is not bought or paid for.  You must have self worth and some people like the fact that they can be an employee and have someone else do the worrying in regards to maintaining the account on the administrative level so to speak.  I am not going to go on and on again but I just wanted to thank you for your opinion and taking the time to post...
nothing more then putting your name and email in as we do here
those that joined me, thanks. it was fun to talk in real time.
Agree, but WE are putting up with it...
...remember long ago when PROTEST was effective and alive and well?

There is no need for the powers that be to change anything if WE THE PEOPLE tolerate the abuse.

Peaceful protest is and always WILL BE patriotic.
I would strongly consider putting that
comment into the report.  They certainly can't think any less of you and maybe seeing it in print will make them realize the harshness of their words as well as their own stupidity for assuming you are the only MT who types for them.  Some dictators have no clue or class.
