Are you talking about a Secure Certificate?

I'm not sure if that is the same thing as an e-signature? Perhaps you mean encryption. I'm not sure why you would need to supply a secure certificate to send files to a client; encryption 128-bit encryption should be find; 256-bit even better.

I'm not talking about a certificate that says you
x
Wait a minute, I'm not just talking about the boards, I'm talking about the news article.

Specifically,

"JLG has a contract with Arrendale Associates/ A+Network/CBay Scribe, which the group says is in India.
A letter from JLG to Barbara Dingman, chief compliance officer and director of health information management, says all medical transcriptionists assigned to the Medical Center Hospital account live in the U.S. and all work is done in America."

But yet they do business with Arrendale/A+/CBay, what am I missing here?

I never got my certificate

My pedal never materialized either, but I did get a reimbursement for that.  I finished going on two years ago and never got it.  Seems to me things are going down hill.

IF you paid by credit card, you can call them and try to get it credited back so you will at least have your money.  I would keep calling them...every day if you have to.

If you have a certificate in MT, sm
Be careful stating you have a "certificate" in MT. There is a certification through AAMT (or whatever their new name is) but it is vastly different from a certificate from a school. I'm assuming you mean you received a certificate upon completion of an MT course of some kind, as the CMT requires a certain amount of experience, I believe (and a CMT would not have trouble finding work). If that's the case, have you asked the school about job placement assistance? If they are a reputable school, they should know employers that will hire their graduates and help you find work.

I would advise AGAINST getting your own accounts. Not only is there a lot to learn about running the business side of it, you will be completely on your own and there will not be much communication or hand-holding from the doctors or their staff. Many doctors will not look twice at someone without experience, either. If you go out there marketing for your own accounts, then the doctors are going to expect you to have all the equipment necessary, be well trained, well educated, and able to produce client-ready documents without assistance on their part. They will expect you to be current on any technology they wish to use. That is why they outsource MT - so they don't have to spend time and money training someone or furnishing equipment, etc. If you do work for local doctors and cannot provide all of that, it could do more damage to your reputation than good. Most docs know each other and talk. That word of mouth is crucial and can make or break you. I'm sorry, but my honest opinion is that a newbie cannot possibly provide the superior service most offices desire because they don't know what it is just yet. If it was as easy as just "working hard," everyone would be doing it, after all. There are a lot of services and individuals out there competing for the doctors' work, so you have to be able to provide better quality and service than they do.

Oh, and also, a lot of private practice doctors are far pickier than you might think. They often actually read their reports before signing them (especially when you are new to them), refer to the reports often in their charts, and expect them to be up to par. If they see a lot of typos or errors, they will cut you loose and move on to the next service looking to earn their work. Who do you think sets forth the specifications that many of the companies you have already spoken to or tested with? Probably their clients!

Now, is it possible you might find some doctor out there willing to give it a shot? Yes. But just because doctors in one town haven't heard of the BOS, that doesn't mean others have not. Did your MT course not go over BOS rules? If BOS rules are what you are having trouble with and want to avoid, then I suggest getting a copy of the current BOS, studying it, and learning it so future testing is excellent. If you test well with a company even without experience, they'd be foolish not to at least take a second look. If you lack experience and don't test well, what incentive do they have to hire? There are a LOT of good MTs looking for work right now, so you have to make yourself stand out above the rest.

If you feel your schooling was inadequate, look into supplemental training at one of the online MT schools that have been approved by the AAMT. Those are the schools that prepare their graduates well enough to get work right out of school and for which companies will often waive experience requirements.
How about a gift certificate for a
for a decadent say of self-indulgence. I wouldn't mind a massage right now and would LOVE it if someone bought me one. LOl
I am not getting my certificate for monetary
reasons. Its for me and my professional pride, which means a lot to me. As for the $$ end, I have been interviewing at several companies, and all did pay, on average, 1 cpl more for CMT. That's quite a differential to me! But I'm staying with my regular job, which does not pay a differential. Its just something I want to achieve in my career.
Gift certificate
Thank you, thank you, thank you! Happy holidays to all!

certification v. certificate

CMT= certified medical transcriptionist.

MTs with 2+ years of acute care experience who pass a test given by the American Association for Medical Transcription (AAMT)are CMTs.  They also need to prove they have accumulated a certain amount of continuing education credits every three years in order to maintain the certification.  HTH.

Where'd you get that certificate? Just curious. NM

secure
Hi. Don't get freaked out. This happens all the time. As long as you are online, someone somewhere is going to try to invade you. As long as you have a firewall, you are safe. Don't worry. It was just a notification by Norton that they are doing their job. Rest easy.
Secure FTP...(sm)
To enable secure FTP, there must be a secure FTP server somewhere, as well as a secure FTP client on your local system (and on the system of anyone else who is uploading or downloading files to or from the server).

You could, technically speaking, run your own secure FTP server but most likely you'll want to use a secure FTP hosting provider. Google the phrase "secure FTP hosting", including the quotes, and browse the results to check out pricing.

For the secure FTP client, there are a number of choices ranging from free to $$. Before choosing one, though, I would get the hosting issue above settled and ask whether they recommend any particular client. If not, you can Google "secure FTP client" and browse the results, looking for two things:

1. An easy to use graphical interface that will let you "drag and drop" files to effect transfers to/from the server.

2. The price range you want. This, to me, would be secondary to item #1 above though.

A secure FTP would be the best way - sm
I would love to know how to get one myself/set one up too. I know how to use a FTP program to upload/download to my jobs to a FTP site, but have no clue how to go about setting one up for myself so I can have my one account send me their voice files that way. So I use mydocsonline.com for that purpose right now which is not expensive--$99 a year, price goes up with the number of users though. Very easy to use too. But I am sure if I could get my own secure FTP site it would be cheaper (I hope) though some appear to be a bit pricy from what I recall when I have looked into this before.

I'm talking about MT school, not K-12, which is where I learned most of what you are talking abou
My clients DO NOT LIKE IT when I correct their wrong crap - did you actually read what I said?

ignorant in general.
I don't believe this is a secure server.

Having said that, if you encrypt any files BEFORE uploading to their server, you should be OK. There is a webpage where you can ask specific questions--the link is below.

Your information is probably more secure than ever before.

How about a gift certificate to their favorite restaurant? nm
x
A cell phone is not secure, so using it to

listen to dictation is not viable.  I have downloaded digital files via cell phone in a pinch, like during storms when I lose land-line.  If you got dictation via cell, you would have to re-record because there is no way to start/stop the dictation to transcribe live.  The quality of the dictation would not be as good as a land line or digital or whatever.   When you have unlimited service, it usually doesn't include unlimited data transfer so would not be feasible for downloading consistently.

Just not a good idea any way you look at it, especially if this is your primary source of obtaining work.

But I didn't think wireless was secure?
Just a long cable to my modem strung through the kitchen window.  LOL  Hubby wants to put a phone jack outside for me, but this is fine.
f-secure is also free and good....nm
x
I have a secure wireless router and
broadband service.  I use wav files so I'm not connected to a phone line.   being wireless, you're going to still be restricted to the signal strength anywhere you go kind of like using a cell phone but if you have a broadband connection on that mountain top with a wireless router connected to it, then your signal is coming from the router and not a tower that will have interference from trees, mountains etc.
Good secure FTP site.... sm
I just got overflow work from a local hospital and I am trying to get started as soon as possible.  I have done searches on this site, but wanted to know if anybody could recommended a secure, HIPAA-compliant FTP site that won't charge much as this is my first account and I have almost no start-up cash.  Any information would be helpful to me.  TIA.
Satellite isn't secure I think is the main

reason companies don't allow it and another is because the download speed is not consistent.  It can be as slow as dial-up at times.  There are also a lot of factors that can knock out your service, at least temporarily.   I had satellite for a year and overall it was okay, but if it snowed or rain hard I either had decreased signal or no signal, if the wind blew hard I might get tree limbs in the way of the signal or the signal was so sporadic that I couldn't download.

You can secure wireless networks,
Making it necessary to put in a password to access it. That'll take care of the moochers!
Secure documentation transfer

Hi, I'm a medical transcriptionist/medical information technologist of a small MTSO called ScriptExcellence. I use "ScriptWave" for my workflow management/secure data transmission between the clients and myself and my subcontracted transcriptionists. The program was designed by my program developer brother, and my service has used it for two years with great success and low cost. If you'd like more information, check out the site at www.scriptwave.net. Best wishes to you!

VPN or secure file transfer
Are all VPN's secure? If not, which ones are? I need to purchase one soon.
Secure file transfer......(sm)
I've heard of several people using FilePhile for secure file transfers, although I have no personal experience with it. It's supposed to be free, easy, and HIPAA compliant.

getting cmt is kind of like getting a certificate for being an excellent top of the line blacksmith.

so what?  so you jumped through all the hoops, learned the trade and now it is obsolete.  but you got your little CMT to keep you warm and cozy?  employers are going to pay what they are going to pay (as little as possible) and that little certificate means nothing to them in the broader scheme of MT world as it goes into the VR and offshore world.

oh but mr. national recruiter, i have a certificate and i should have 12 cpl for my skills and education....... bwaaaaahaaaaa.

Satellite is not secure so there may be concern for HIPAA
violation.  Also satellite downloads are not dependable, sometimes they can be just as slow as dial-up, depends on the weather and how many others are on the server.
Need names of good, secure, FTP sites - sm

that are easy to use and access.  Have a doctor's office that will be sending me digital voice files in the next couple of weeks and need to switch them over easily to a new "system".  I prefer FTP though since I only have dial-up and I am used to using it with another job. Any preferences out there? Thanks.

The gov. doesn't care one jot about secure records!
.
Use a secure method of transferring files.

Encrypted email for delivery of completed documents works, but voice files may be too large for that method. A secure FTP site, either your own or through a commerical provider such as mydoconline.com or ftptogo.com, would work for both documents and voice files. You may need an FTP program, but there are lots of free ones out there, like filezilla.com, which is what I use.

secure documentation transfer without an MTSO

Hi, I'm a medical transcriptionist/medical information technologist of a small MTSO called ScriptExcellence. I use "ScriptWave" for my workflow management/secure data transmission between the clients and myself and my subcontracted transcriptionists. The program was designed by my program developer brother, and my service has used it for two years with great success and low cost. It would be an easy way for you to securely transfer audio files/transcribed reports without using an MTSO. If you'd like more information, check out the site at www.scriptwave.net. Best wishes to you!

Need to set up FTP - Secure site recommendations / cost ??
I need to use a secure FTP to transfer medical files.  Is anyone using a particular FTP that they like.  What is cost associated with this.  Any info appreciated.  Thanks.
Not a problem if working on secure server
My company uploads/downloads work from a secure server, not an open Internet connection (as in web browser). Work does not travel over Internet, but directly from me to server to client and vice versa. Records are not kept on my computer, but the server. If that is the case with your setup, I'd think it would not matter if you are typing in New York or Timbuktu.
I think pre-existing stuff may kick in if you have have no certificate of previous coverage.
