oops - big mistake - I said the wrong person - apologies apologies apologies
it WAS NOT Desperado who made that statement. Sorry. It was another person that made the statement about the physical and drug screen remark. Sorry. Sorry Sorry. I apologize a million times for that.
google glitch
I heard on the radio this morning that Google is malfunctioning and giving error messages, indicating that every searched-for web site is dangerous or something, and they are working on it.
Hi! I'm the one who never has had a glitch, and I'm on XP with service pack 2! Maybe that's
Honestly, it is the fastest smoothest platform one could imagine - seamless, really. Never a problem - sound quality is perfect. I hate to say that, cause I'm not a MQ devotee, but the platform is truly awesome!
MODERATOR - glitch in the system again?
my avg quaranteens 'it' but there is nothing there in my quaranteen jail. there is no virus.
the webmaster fixed it once, the pesty thing is back and,I don't know, but with all that has been happening, could be an aggravation by someone with a grudge. Just my opinion, tho, considering.
you are safe and they will get rid of it....again.
Then I guess, it is just a computer glitch...sm
maybe you have to reboot your computer.
If you cannot do it, sleep on it, tomorrow it will work again.
not a virus, a glitch. if you run a scan regularly, you would see no festations. NM
.
mine stopped doing that weeks ago. I believe the glitch is fixed. NM

My apologies
Reading further, I see that Mr. Vance is not, in fact, the founder. Donna Littrell, CEO of Elite Office Solutions has started this organization and Mr. Vance is simply noting that (he did join, however). My only question was as to whether current members of AHDI including CMTs would join this new organization without rescinding their previous affiliation. It just seems that the two organizations would be in direct conflict with each other. If AHDI members don't join I would understand that, but if they do join, then I would be concerned that it's bogus. How could you fight against outsourcing and belong to AHDI? Sorry if I caused any confusion by attributing this organization to Jay Vance.
my apologies...you of course are right
and your typing is not so good and you are using caps, you must really be uspet for some reason.
Do you know what caused the ....sm
water damage? Is it something that could happen again like flooding?? I would certainly wait until after inspection. Personally, though, I would probalby keep looking. Do you have a realtor? They could answer your money questions.
My apologies to administrator. I did not
intend for my response to turn this thread into a religious debate. Will try to be more careful in the future.
Deepest Apologies
To all who read my ad in the job seeker's forum, I offer my deepest apologies. I am a subcontractor who has always subcontracted since becoming a medical transcriptionist. Because "business" is booming, I decided to "treat" myself to an Editor to knock my 16 hour days down to 8. I dutifully went on line and looked for statistics on what the going rate was, and found many, many stating .02 to .03 cpl as standard. These must have been old websites. I did not do this out of greed, but out of ignorance, and the ad has been removed. Again, I apologize for hurting so many feelings and will make sure I get my facts straight the next time I place an ad.
anon, my apologies, not down on you,
but I do see a lot of posts reflecting what I was talking about, so I did not mean to direct it all at you per se, just saw an opening for my "soapbox."
It is great that things are good for you and you are not seeing the issues a lot of us do in this profession, but for the rest of us to make light of them and pretend they do not exist is not going to make it any better.
We should be standing together. Even if you are doing great, you have a lot of sisters who are not. In fact, many are hurting real badly right now.
My apologies to you. See message
I do apologize for the argumentative post, and I'm glad you realize it's an ad. Pay no mind to most of the emails, as the *other* crew frequently sends emails on anything they can think of. My gut reaction to argue was simply because of the repeated posts about viruses (which these are not) and the fact that so many people believe they are. Kudos to you for knowing the difference, but I did want to point out to others that it wasn't something attacking their computer. I have run adware/spyware scans on my computer 3 times a week since my introduction to the bad aspect of those, and each time I run them I get a minimum of 20. I don't click on ads, so I thought this was the norm just from going on websites. However, your post makes me think otherwise. Now, if you can tell me how to block them from every site...I will most certainly hail you guru.
Should read apologies to "moderator." nm

Sorry, I probably read this wrong. My apologies. sm
I am SWAMPED by this clinic that I'm currently working on. DH is being a buttmunch, too. on me!
My apologies. I believe it is SpeedType not SmartType
that is supposed to be like Shorthand. But, in any case, check with tech support at ShortHand about compatibility with your program.
Hey Susan..I don't think it really caused any flames.

I bought one of those cat fountains and it caused
A brown area on the white fram around the plug. I sent it back and got my money back. Most of this stuff is made in China now and I think they use cheap wiring. I was glad I was home and noticed it because it could have melted the plug and started a fire.
Did try - it caused my supe to giggle :{ NM

I am pretty sure braces CAUSED my DD's TMJ
She never had it before she had braces, and has had it ever since. I started to do some research on the web about it, and it seems it is pretty common for orthodontists to line up the TEETH, but not the jaws - which is kind of a DUH thing to me. I mean, you would expect an orthodontist to know they needed to have both in line, right? My DD's teeth look beautifully straight, but her jaws click and sometimes get stuck.
caused me to go severely in debt
that 10 years later I am still recovering from - was writing checks on charge accounts to pay mortgage - this was local and when I would go to her house to pick up and drop off tapes I was seeing boxes from QVC yet she said she wasn't getting paid. Still angry.
I have heard that this can often be caused by stress.
In the early years of my first marriage, my husband soaked the sheets nightly. He was in the middle of a nasty divorce and child custody case. When those issues resolved, the night sweats disappeared.
my apologies...I agree with you on THAT part about cherrypicking...
had that happen first-hand my first year of transcription...supervisor took all normals, easy dictators, etc., all to score points with the Medical Director - constantly making everyone think she was some kind of wizard on the keyboard (haha, it is funny now, but all of us in the office knew exactly what she was doing...)
my apologies administrator, its suddenly back
Please back your info up (apologies for typo). nm.

My sincere apologies. Was just in a goofy mood
and it struck me funny. Sorry.
Here's a different perspective on what really caused lung cancer.
http://www.vialls.com/transpositions/smoking.html
That is what caused me to be unable to transcribe anymore.
I have to do QA now and it is a good thing I like QA, but I cannot do anymore transcribing due to the mess it has made of my back and to my hands/wrists. I also did minimally 2200 lines in 5 hours and have done as many as 3200 before. Those were the good ole days. Do it while you can because at that rate, it takes its toll on our body.
chapped lips are caused from dehydration in the beginning and sm
chapsticks are a chain reaction causing continual need.
I read a book once that burnout was caused by being out of balance. sm
Working too much and not giving time to other parts of your life is the culprit in the job arena. Variety is the spice of life, so focusing on balancing your job, your need for a good cash flow, with times to enjoy yourself is essential.
It takes work, and fortunately I have an S/O that demands that I take time for us to have fun and for "me" to have fun as an individual.
Mwahahaha. Just call me the dealer that caused the shuffle. SM
I'm like you, I couldn't understand how this particular subject could cause such a ruckus. I got a little picky about how the question should be answered because there are many variables when talking about line counts.
So I'm just going to give my answer and hope that this helps you.
I work 8 hours a day and my line count is based on a 65 character line with spaces.
In an 8-hour day, with very few interruptions, I produce 1800 to 2000 lines a day. If the kids are home (as they are today), my production will slip to around 1500, sometimes even lower, but let's not talk about those days!
My headaches were caused by a bad chair! My boss told me about the same thing and sm
I went out and bought a new chair. No more headaches. That was 4 years ago and it still ticks me off that I had a headache for 5 months that no one had a reason for. Turns out that my chair was tilting funny and I was over-compensating for it without realizing that it was off balance.
Yes, I work 80-90 hours a week. I am going to stop because life is passing me by and it has caused
depression. There is no way mentally or physically you can keep up the pace. It is finally getting to me and I now realize there are more important things in life than work. I have been a workaholic all of my life. It started as an escape to a bad marriage but I ended up missing my kids grow up, I've lost friends because I have no time for them, and this is my last chance with an 8-year-old child left at home to get it right and put my family first. It means giving up a lot of "material things" but what do they matter when all you need is the love of your family. I'd never recommend this to anyone.
Sounds like Rodney King after he wreaked havoc and caused a great race riot.
Quit calling people FOOLS and then asking if we can't get along.
All I know is it caused the company I work for to be unable to do all work due today and the rest
:+
I think $.07, $.075, $.08, or $.085 are all way too low for experienced MTs.
I truly love interviewing with these companies, then trying not to spew coffee out my nose at the line rates offered. Some of those rates were even for IC with no benefits or tax withholding. I'm about ready to quit MT and let them offshore because rates have dropped so much since I started. It's wonderful being offered the same rate to do ESLs and upper level work as what I made 10 years ago as a newbie. It's getting to the point where you can't make a decent, honest living anywhere any more.
Well, that's what MQ does. If are not an experienced MT,
nm
If you are experienced and don't have to SM
look a lot of things up, then the answer is macroing the daylights out of you machine. Macro just not large words, but medium and small words, such as "n" for "and" and "w" for "was", and so on. Try not to type anything out, if you don't have to.
I have also experienced that.
Did tell her that she might not have realized it but I felt there it sounded condescending and as our goal was to put out as perfect a product as possible, it was not helpful. Also told her that I appreciated constructive criticism as that would help us both.
Things did change. Sometimes I don't think they realize the importance of the way they phrase a sentence.
new MTs vs. experienced MTs
Dear MT Pundit,
Thank you for taking the time to write your thoughts about experienced vs. new MTs. I think you're right-on. I see myself in the set-in-my-ways attitude sometimes. I'm not speaking for anyone else, of course. I can only speak for myself. Change isn't easy for me, but I've tried very hard to adapt and think I'm doing okay. This industry is changing fast and furiously, and if I want to stay in it, then I need to be able to go with the flow. Otherwise, my job may well end up in India.
Too experienced? sm
Looking for a little advice. While applying for MT jobs recently I have been told I am too experienced to "just transcribe" because they see that I have held supervisory and other positions in the industry - along with many years of actual transcribing experience. I realize these days about 8 cpl is the going rate and although I wish it were higher, I wouldn't apply to these postings if I wasn't willing to work for that rate. Just looking to supplement my income. I would hate to leave all this experience off my resume, but maybe I should? Any ideas for a different way to spin this?
If you are experienced, you don't need to
look at the keys, whether characters are there or not.
Experienced ICs, please help.
I am an experienced Transcriptionist but I have always worked as an employee. I now have the opportunity to pick up a side account as an IC.
I really need some help and guidance on how to create a contract and what needs to be in that contract. Can someone please give me some advice?
Thanks In Advance!!
Even the most experienced MTs can
have trouble with new accounts. As long as your company has not said anything to you, don't sweat it.
experienced MT
Companies tend to want to hire newbies with the mindset that they can pay out cheaper. We all have to start somewhere, of course. Experience needs to continue to be worth something, including a deserved pay to go with it, and this notion seems to be whittling away...
In this profession, we all learn something new continuously.
I have experienced this...
before. There are many clients who operate in a similar fashion. If that's what they want, give it to them. After all, they are paying for our services, right?
yes, dnh.... I am experienced
I have been doing this for 15 years. Did my time in the office before going home and still learning every day.
I feel that I am above average at what I do, in the past 11 years on my current job, not one QA audit below 98%. I also have a 2nd job to make ends meet and in the past year, my monthly QA audits have been above 99%, twice at 100%. The 2nd job is OPs only and paid less than the 1st job.
I work a schedule at both! I do not complain and take pride in what I do. Of course I look things up. I do not abuse QA.
Thanks for you advice about trying to find a job like yours that never posts ads because no one leaves. That should help a fellow MT find a home.
I am an experienced transcriptionist, and have no more need sm
to proof every word of every report that the doctors have a need to actually listen over to their own dictation. Speed and quality go hand in hand in making a good MT. If you don't have both, then you will never make any more and never have any confidence in your skills. I think I already told you, above, that I have a QA score of 99.4. Good enough for me.
Everyone must pay their dues....we experienced MTs sm
worked in the office in the beginning of our career. I am not as old as one might think, 38 years old, but I started MT while still in high school in the 10th grade on a typewriter. I paid my dues many times over before I could have a career at home. I have to tell you, the experience and knowledge gained in that time is priceless. Yes, we learn something new every day, but in the office you have the doctors, nurses, OMs, and other MTs to offer their assistance. If you don't know a word or can't understand it, you go right to the doc himself. So, the next time you hear it, you know what the heck he/she was talking about. That is how you learn. Sorry to say it, but an office job or MT job in one specialty is where you should start. These schools tell you that you can work at home after you finish their course. That just is an outright untruth!
Just had to give my 10 cents worth.
