Anyone willing to share Emdat Inscribe tips/tricks?

I recently started working on the Emdate Inscribe platform. It is a little more cumbersome to maneuver than what I am used to, and I was wondering if any of you seasoned Emdat MTs might share any tips or tricks you've found to speed yourself up using this system? I've had a couple "glitches" with the function to look up/paste doctor names, for example, and not being able to close out the "prior transcriptions" box because there's no X! Not too much help from the MT company so thought I'd try here - any tips will be greatly appreciated, or if you know of any websites or other resources. You can respond here or to my email and thank you in advance!

Tips/tricks for getting FASTER
Hi all.... wondering if anyone would like to share some "trade secrets" for have better line counts, etc. I have been a Transcriptionist for 12 years now and know there are ways of being more efficient and being quicker at this that hopefully I could take advantage of. Thanks!
Has anyone ever heard from Longtime MT about the tips and tricks.
I haven't heard anything. Again I'm wondering if this person was just fishing for responses to see how many she'd get as she's never conacted me from the start nor have I seen any tips and tricks for boosting production. Has anyone else?
I can share some Shorthand tricks if you like!
Gladly
MS Word 2007 -- I have to switch over to this. Any hints, tips & tricks would be great. Thanks!
I've heard some people are not very happy with it. Any suggestions on how to get started, and any good tips would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your help and expertise!
EMDAT/Inscribe
I'm lost. This is something I don't think I've heard of. Could someone explain how it works and where I would have to get it?
Thanks
EMDAT/Inscribe
It is not something you go and get unless you are starting up your own business. It is a type of VPN that some MTSOs use. Personally, I hate EMDAT and Inscribe is not much different. I have worked on both and disliked them both. I have yet to work with either that provided anything less than a sub-rate spell checker. You can add words of course, but that takes time that you do not get paid for. I rely on auto-complete in my Word program, which you cannot use with either system. Overall I give it a thumbs down, but that is just my opinion. I run from any ad suggesting EMDAT/Inscribe.
EMDAT/Inscribe
I cannot tell you how wonderful it is to know that I am not alone in my feelings about EMDAT/Inscribe. I quit a job after just 2 days because I hated it so. The MTSO could not understand why I wasn't "in love" with her system. I told her why, but she refused to listen. Maybe there are MTs who love it, but it is on my highly dislike list. Will never work with it again unless I am forced to.
EMDAT/Inscribe
How difficult is this platform to learn? Also, is it difficult to get a good line count if you have a decent account?
TIA
Emdat/Inscribe
Why do want to type in word? I use this program also and type reports in the window provided by the program. Maybe I am not understanding your question.
Emdat/Inscribe
Yes, I have noticed that also. What I do is listen for the info needed, then access wherever it needs to go. Sometimes I may need to write it down if its alot. Pain in the you know what I know.
IT and Emdat Inscribe
Every since upgrading my Inscribe I can no longer use my Instant text. Is there a way to fix this? I am totally lost now. Are there any other programs that will work with this? I have tried several times the patch or whatever it is called but still not working. I even tried to uninstall and reinstall IT without success. Any suggestions?
Emdat inscribe
Anyone know if either ShortHand or Shortcut Expander program will work with Emdat Inscribe? Thanks.
Emdat/Inscribe
For anyone who has used the Inscribe program - if you have more than one report on a dictation file, do you know how to get the voice file for the 2nd report after you have got the demographics for that report? I can get the 2nd format but not the voice file. Thanks.
Emdat/Inscribe
Thanks. I will try this.
EMDAT, INSCRIBE
If anyone uses this program...could you please let me know what text Expander program you can use...If this question has been answered before...sorry...I don't get on here every day, and have been using Inscribe without any text expander because the one I have does not work with it...so I thought I would get some input as to which ones are able to be used with this software.
Thanks!
EMDAT, INSCRIBE
I use InstantText without any problems.
The latest InScribe from Emdat sm
Will work with my USB Infinity pedal as I have just set it up. It will also run with InstanText. QUITE the upgrade from the Emdat I tried to use about 6 or 7 yrs ago I can tell you that. It is MUCH better, user friendly and I think I'll be more productive on it.
EMDAT/InScribe question. sm
Does anyone work with version 4.91? From what I understand, this latest upgrade will not work with Express Scribe or any other outside player. I need to purchase a USB foot pedal and would like to know if anyone has a particular brand they use and are happy with (and company where purchased). Thanks!
Emdat InScribe & Footpedals
Hi everyone,
Emdat InScribe 4.3 works only with foot pedals that can be configured or programmed for specific keystokes. F2 is play, F3 is Rewind and F4 is fast forward by default in Emdat. If you have the ability to configure a foot pedal to these keystorkes (function keys), then that foot pedal will work with InScribe 4.3.
Emdat InScribe 4.91 has a "configure foot pedal" utility that allows you to configure any USB foot pedal. This is a newer release of InScribe and we have been informed of some issues with this configuration feature. InScribe 4.92 is in beta and if you have a foot pedal (such as Infinity) that did not work with 4.91, please contact beta@emdat.com to get 4.92.
We apologize for this issue and believe it is resolved in the latest version. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact Emdat Help Desk at 630-743-0500 x1.
Word & Emdat InScribe
Word can be used with Emdat InScribe, but in a limited fashion. On the InScribe toolbar, there is a WORD icon. When you press that icon, it will open Word (if you have Word XP or higher) and you can type in a bare Word editor. Your spellchecker will work as normal (if using Stedmans or any other 3rd party spell checker).
The problem with Word is that Emdat strips out many of the formatting that Word creates. Not all the formatting is stripped out, only the major formatting features such as font size, font color, and fonts. If you are in Word and setup margins within the document, they will transfer back to InScribe without being stripped and sometimes (not always) cause problems for the person viewing the final transcription. To avoid this (and use Word), simply don't use ANY word formatting, but instead, just use Word to type. This will work fine with InScribe.
InScribe 5.0 is Word based. It is due out later this year (2008) and will replace the existing Editor (where you type now in InScribe) with Word 2003 or higher.
I hope this information helps. If not, please call us at the Emdat Help Desk at 630-743-0500 x1.
Thanks,
Emdat Help Desk
Emdat/Inscribe-Is there a way to decrease
the rewind setting? It rewinds too far every time I release the play button or if I push rewind button. I have looked at all the options and I can't find a place to set the rewind amount.
EMDAT InScribe -- not friendly
Terrible platform.
If you are talking about Emdat Inscribe..sm
that's the way the system is. It is not you or your computer. It is not designed to help you make lines, but just the opposite. I hated it.
What is your opinion of the Emdat, InScribe program?
I may have an opportunity to work for a company that uses this program. If you have used this, I would like to know what you think of this program, etc. I have worked in DQS and I liked it as it was very user friendly. If you have had experience with each of these programs, I would really appreciate the pros/cons, comparison of each as well.
Thanks so very much.
Emdat/Inscribe foot pedal?
Does anyone have any experience with what foot pedal to use for this? I went to the site and they suggest a DicTran pedal that is pre-programmed to work with your keyboard. Also, when you do use it, do you need to press the F1, F2, etc. keys on your keyboard or just use the pedal and that's it? It's also been suggested to use a Gearsplayer, but that's kind of expensive with getting the software, totalling $200. It would be $106 for the DicTran pedal. I have a Dictaphone pedal right now, but was told that would not work with Emdat. Please help!
Thanks!
Emdat foot pedal/Inscribe
I've read mostly negative comments about this. Does it work with Microsoft 4000 Keyboard? Is it decent to use as long as demos are pre-filled? Is it hard to learn? Thank you for suggestions.
Integrity's EmDat/Inscribe platform..sm
I have never used this platform in any of my employments, and I was wondering about the learning curve, is it easy to use/learn, what are its good/bad points?? Any and all responses really appreciated!!
older version Emdat Inscribe
after receiving the info on here, I decided that I wanted to KEEP Emdat Inscribe 4.3.202. (It can still be downloaded and my company has not told us to upgrade.) If I DO upgrade to the newest, which is 4.9 I think...are you saying that the Infinity pedal will work with the newest Emdat by configuring the pedal? I've done that in the past, but would you mind sending the process in case I do have to upgrade. I wish they'd leave things as they are.
emdat/inscribe foot pedal
What type of pedal works with this and where did you get it?
Thanks.
Emdat Inscribe Auto text
New to Inscribe and when I try to expand my word in auto text the cursor jumps to the next line. Even did this when I tried a key other than the enter key. Also have Instant text(older version, Instant Text III Pro, but seems to be taking a long time to get used to. Any thoughts on these two expanders, which is better to use? Thank you
need emdat/Inscribe foot pedal
thanks
Any other tips you can share and what should...
I be prepared to bring? I am going to Phoenix in November for 2 weeks while hubby is on a business trip and this will be my first travel/work trip. Thanks!
What type of foot pedal do you need to use Emdat/Inscribe?
Is it USB? If you have a 9-pin, can you use a converter?
EMDAT/InScribe foot pedal issues
I have an Infinity foot pedal that I am using with EMDAT/InScribe. The pedal works, just not very well. There is a 2-3 second delay and sometimes it will not stop the audio. I cannot play the audio file at all if I am not in the InScribe program window. Sometimes I will lose the audio all together if I am on the web researching things. It is very frustrating! I have tried every suggestion on the support page. I have updated everything on my computer and ran every scan possible. I do not want to buy a new pedal as this one works. I hope there is some kind of "fix" for this. Any suggestions would be GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!
I am running Windows XP professional with Service Pack 3, DSL, Trend antivirus, and the latest versions of Windows Media Player, IE, InScribe, etc.
Thank you Thank You THANK YOU in advance!
Is it possible to save my autotext entries in Emdat Inscribe
and copy them to Shorthand? I have so many of them saved in Emdat's autotext and I would hate to have to re-type them into Shorthand. Is this even possible? Thanks for any input on this!!
Can you share any tips/techniques? nm
To the person giving the ShortHand tips - thank you very much for taking time to share!! nm

Congrats, girl, and get your share of any money that you share before he wipes you out. nm

Emdat Software Question for Emdat Users
Hello:
I have a question about the Emdat software. Regarding the cc: box, sometimes, you have to type in the address, because the address is not in the database. I have found that when you try to pause the audio with either the foot pedal or the "F" key assigned to pause while typing the address, the audion will not pause; it keeps on playing. You should be able to pause the audio while trying to type the address into the database. Anyone else notice this, anyone? Thank you kindly.
Share, share, I've been looking for some time...sm
sending out resumes gallor, have great experience, but they sound like clones of each other in what they offer, yet what they want is it all!!! I'm so discouraged, in the depression boat myself! They want you to commit to FT, new equip, DSL, on and on!!!
Does Emdat work with F keys or is is something else? Is Emdat

old dog...new tricks...lm
Thanks for the walk down memory lane! I once knew a senior MT who originally worked off of WAX CYLINDERS ("by 1902 the brown wax cylinder was eclipsed by the molded black wax cylinder. A typical recording on a black wax cylinder was about 2 minutes.") At the end of her shift, part of her job was to scrape the cylinders clean for the next day's recording! I started out on noncorrecting IBM Selectrics and reel-to-reel tapes...then correcting Selectrics, but we had to make multiple copies with carbon paper and blue, pink, yellow, goldenrod, and white correction fluids...then the 1-line display Olivetti...then the Wang, Raytheon and Xerox behemoths. Also, I still have my original 1973 Sloane's Medical Word Book Now I use a highspeed internet home-based LAN with VOIP and a KVM switch...guess the only thing that hasn't evolved is the quality of dictation! Kudos to all of you MTs out there from this 30+ year veteran. We've come a long way baby!
tricks...
Do you do radiology with a lot of canned reports? I do acute care, have been in this business for 30 years, have 4000 entries in my text expander, and a good day for me is 1300 lines. My fingers never leave the keyboard. I see posts from people like on this board and I wonder what planet you are on.
In the old days when we used DOS, I routinely did 2000 to 2200 lines, but with Windows, I have never been able to get beyond about 1400 lines.
old dog tricks sm
I too am an old dog and got very tired of clients, especially hospitals, sending me their very worst, bottom of the barrel dictators, just because I got every word. They always dumped their pail on me as far as sending me the worst of the worst, the same with a service I worked for. Their excuse was "you're the best and you're the only one who can do them, so that's why we need you." Tired of that old line, but not much you can do other then complain in a nice way that you need a "mix" to keep your sanity. I used to get heartburn and headaches just thinking about how they could be so cruel. We also have a breaking point and a little break in between these guys and girls sure would be appreciated. Know how you feel, it's not fair.
old dog - new tricks
Well it is about time for me to come into the digital world. I have ordered my foot pedal and going to try and get my accounts digital -- plus am picking up an overflow account that I need it for. Anyway one major question and bear with this old, old tape user MT. If they send me a voice file either attached or through an FTP and I download it, can I then also forward it onto one of my subs -- in other words is it like my chart notes files where I have the original and only a copy is sent to my subs or when you attach a picture you still have it on your computer. My reasoning/question is because if I need to check over a dictation after they have completed it, I will have a copy on my computer. Or can they go thorugh the FTP site, download the voice file also? Thanks for all your help. Like I said -- old dog new tricks.
Tricks........
The trick is sit down and type. I use ShortHand as an expander. The hospital account that I type for and make 11 cpl requires 1000 lines a day....I do this in about 4 hours, 5 tops. That is roughly 250 lines an hour and in 4 hours I've made 110.00. Then I work on my other account that pays me 10 cpl for about 2 hours which is another 50-60.00. Then I wrap up my day with an hour or so doing clean-up on the account that pays me 9 cpl. There is no magic to it or tricks. I might mention this is all straight typing as none of my accouts have gone to editing, even though one is going to in the next month or so and at that time for the editing part I will receive 4.5 cpl. The money is out there, you just have to work. No one is going to pay you to sit in your seat and surf the net all day. A friend of mine works on the same hospital account that I do and she types 10-12 hours a day and pulls in almost 5000.00 a month. It can be done!
tricks of the trade
I have seen a LOT of posts on here for people asking how to get their lines. Some are having trouble even hitting lower numbers like 1000-1400. I have been working for a long time on a little book of tips, "Maximizing Line Counts: 30 Tips in 30 Days." I started this at the request of my boss who wanted to give it to all existing employees as well as new hires. I am interested to know if there are any transcriptionists who would like to have something like this.
would love to know the tricks!!
I've been at this for about 6 mos and have finally gotten to a pretty normal 1100-1200 a day linecount... But would love to increase that and the $$!!
Google Tricks
First of all, if you go into advanced search in Google, it gives you tons of "criteria" you can work with.
The asterisk "*" is the wildcard. If you were looking for a medication that was 20 mg, you could put * 20 mg into Google and it would start listing all meds that were 20 mg. If you put: No wheezes, rales, or *, Google would give suggestions on what would fit here.
If you are looking for an either or, the OR (capitalized) searches for both. Like "side effects, aspirin OR tylenol" This entry would bring up both.
If you type in "define: words" (two spaces after define) it will list all dictionaries the word is in. Google also has a calculator, does conversions, all kinds of things, just have to look on the Google site.
Hope this helps answer some questions--
Rebekah
Where did you learn all these tricks?
I have the program and have really not got into it too much yet, but the manual leaves a lot to be desired. It is very highly recommended so I intend to keep on trying. I bought it about a year and a half ago, and admit I finally gave up and put it on the back burner, but I really want to learn how to use it. I will add, though, that I have had a lot of trouble learning the tricks with Word, since I am on my own and having to teach myself.
tricks of the trade...
ok...so create autocorrect forced entries for words that often trip you up; if 'does' vs. 'dose' is a common error, create "doz" for dose and "duz" for does (or something that works for you). one of my common errors is 'doe shave' for 'does have'; so I created autocorrect 'doe shave' to be autoreplaced with 'does have'; i also created autocorrect 'dzhv' and retrain myself to use it. make sense? another proofing trick i use is to change the VIEW of a document during proofing; it's *amazing* how formatting and text errors "pop" when i switch from 'normal' to 'print' or 'outline' view...i catch things i would have missed had i not changed the screenshot. you can also use search&replace for common format/text errors; you just have to develop the habit of SAVE, SPELLCHECK, SAVE, CHANGE VIEW, PROOF, SEARCH/REPLACE, SAVE, COUNT, CREATE AUTOTEXT NORMAL (IF DESIRED), SAVE, EXIT, ADD COMMENTS, SIGNOFF...i think you'll see your QA improve =)
