sign up to do surveys and get paid for it. Does anyone know if this is legit, or who does this? I'd like to try it. I didn't follow through far enough to see if there's a fee to sign up with this company or not.

An MT: Regarding your question about online surveys
Hi,
Not all are survey programs are scams. I belong to two that do, indeed, pay off.
1) MyPoints so far has been the BEST! I've been a member for years and have recently gotten enough points to purchase an $85 textbook I needed for school from Barnes & Noble last year, a financial break I sorely needed at the time. I paid for my Virgin Mobile Top Up with money to spare this year, and I have earned enough these past few months to get a $100 check which I will redeem soon.
With MyPoints you do not have to purchase ANYTHING. NOTHING at all.
You can earn points by ordering through member companies, however, you can simply earn points by clicking on offers or filling out surveys sent to you. If you don't want to participate in a particular survey or are not interested in the product offer, fine. (For the product offer, you don't have to buy; just click on the link and you still get your points.)
I do suggest that you set up a junk mail account and check it regularly as the offers have an end date.
If you want more info., just e-mail me.
AND, by the way, if you decide to join, let me know in advance, as I'll get 500 points just for the referral and I do loooove my points, lol.
2) I became a member of NFO/My Survey and redeemed a helluva lot of points earlier this year and have now racked up more that I plan to redeem soon. You can get a check, spend points on prizes they offer (quite varied), redeem your points to have them sent to a charitable org., or get the points prize in cash.
If you join them, let me know because I get points for referrals there too--although much, much less than at MyPoints...:( ...though I'm not complaining, lol.
With MySurvey, it is purely all survey--no offers at all. You usually get around 10 points per survey, but based on your answers you can earn much more if you qualify for an extended survey regarding the product you just took a survey on--the last few surveys offered an extra 50 points each to me if I wanted to participate in the extended survey.
Also, if you take a survey and, based on your answers they decide you're not a candidate/don't qualify for the initial survey they have, they tell you that they have no further questions for you and the survey ends--you still get the points however. For example, I've gotten several requests for surveys involving small business owners, house/property owners, and car purchasers, but did not qualify, as I am none of the above and I don't drive, but I got the points anyway just for responding. Not a bad deal at all in my opinion.

Maybe you don't, but I've taken the practice MCATs online
without studying and passed.
If you've already passed their online test, I believe the
interview was just asking about your skills and preferences. It's not a verbal test like some other companies. Nothing to worry about. You don't need to study for it. It's just a conversation with the HR person or recruiter. Relax, you'll do great!
Here's what I've been paid.....
I'm currently making .085 cpl 65 character lines with spaces.... I've been paid as low as .0745, though. I did some catch up work for a hospital in my home town when they were really busy. I charged them .10/cpl as an IC and they didn't bat an eye.
You might want to see how many lines you can do in an hour and then do the math to see how many cpl you're making right now. That would give a you starting point for negotiations.
I've always been told to put 2. Even if not paid for - sm
2, since I have to proof-read everything before sending out, and 1 space makes it harder to read, I put 2 for my own ease of editing, in addition to it just looking better and more professional with 2.
I've always been paid by minute so....
Like anything, it depends on various things. My regular account on average I do 20-30 minutes of dictation an hour. But on a new account it could be 10 minutes an hour. Guidelines for hospital was 120 minutes in an 8 hour day.
If they haven't paid you, are you SURE they've
I've been down that road before. Filled out the forms, had money taken from each paycheck, only to find out about a year later that I'd never had insurance at all during that time. Only found out when I finally needed to go to a doctor. Then WHOOPS! No insurance. I filed with the State Labor Board, won the case, and put them out of business. That sure did feel good, too.
We've all had these and as far as I am concerned, we all should be paid extra!!! NM
:)
What's *realistic* is that after I've paid my rent, (sm)
my utility bill, my car insurance, my ISP & phone bills, my medical co-payments, dental bill, etc., I usually have a choice between eating or buying gasoline. So currently my car sits in the carport, fuel-less and rarely driven, but insured - just so that I can continue my close relationship with Chef Boy-Ar-Dee and day-old (or older) bread.
I am sure that emails to clients and emails to IC --sm
transcriptionists rank in two different categories. Emails to transcriptionists are probably much more frequent, the supervisors have alot more work to do than sending emails and are in a hurry. Perhaps concentrating on your own work instead of typos in an email would be more productive. which is more important?? geez. give others a break.
surveys
I have not worked for MQ since January of this year when I had finally had enough and got a much better job. Anyway, Friday, I got a phone call from some person doing a survey on MT that used to work for MQ in the past wanting to know what their experience was like and how they could improve. Needless to say, I unloaded on her. I was very polite but said that if they want to entice good MT, they should pay them a better wage as well as be more open, yada, yada, yada.... At the end of the question and answer period, she asked "What could MQ do to entice you back?" Of course, I replied NOTHING A THING. I wouldn't trust them as far as I could throw them (of course, I didn't actually verbalize the latter as you should ALWAYS keep a door open. You never know what the future holds.
I really empathize with the transcriptions that still work for MQ and am sincere when I say that I hope you aren't all hung out to dry and that MQ was sincere in this survey. It doesn't take an Einstein to figure out what people want from a company.
Good luck all, just glad I left when I did.
Surveys . . .
I looked into it - I was not comfortable with supplying so much personal information for every survey. Also, the ones that paid more seemed like you were signing up for something and later would have to cancel. I was afraid I wouldn't be able to keep track of it all. If you do it, set up set up a separate email. I received a ton of stuff from 3 different companies, but decided against it for those reasons. If you want the names of the companies I can email, but they're easy to find. You can get some good information on yahoo questions.
surveys
You will get e-mail from hundreds of companies and frankly I didn't want to be bothered. It just seemed like a pain in the neck!
surveys
I have a friend who does it pretty much full time, but she does not collect $, however she gas gotten tons of high dollar makeup, home products, etc.
on-line surveys
Are any MTs doing surveys on line? Seems like a good way to make a little extra something and kill time when work is low, but of course now I am suspicious of everything!
Bare Minerals IS available at ULTA online,Sephora online...(sm)
...and you don't have to sign up for a makeup "club," or anything. I totally agree with you that this makeup is great for all the basic purposes (coverage, lasting), but their slogan is "Makeup so healthy you can sleep in it." There is a delay in time between when you can apply your powder after moisturizer, but it is really worth it.
To go with your powder I recommend the "pump brush" offered at some of the cosmetic online stores. You fill the handle with your powder mixture (I mix two different powders, changing it up or down according to how much sun I've been getting) and the pump brush will distribute some to the bristles, tap and have at it! This is great for carrying it with you to minimize the loss into the lining of your handbag!
I cannot recommend Bare Minerals enough. I used to be a MAC convert, and have tried everything from Chanel to Maybelline--this product does not disappoint.
They are taking surveys of who the best dictators are. Gee, I wonder why?

Thank u for these replies on surveys. It's very helpful.

For QA consulting I'm paid per hour; QA instructing (college) paid salary, QA editing paid per li
I am an IC and work for two different MTSOs as well as instruct at a business college.
I don't get why you are getting these emails. sm
Do you give your email out? Do you buy stuff online? Do you have a firewall and a pop up blocker, etc.
I have an email address that very few people know through my ISP which is heavily protected. It rejects most attachments and even wouldn't let me open some pictures that my sister tried to send me.
I also have a Yahoo email that I barely ever use. If I do order something online, which is very rare, I give the company my Yahoo email address and then I will go there to check the status of my order.
I did this because I learned the hard way though. When I worked inhouse a few years back, the medication Levitra had just arrived on the market. I was transcribing, had no idea what it was and I Googled it. The hospital I worked at had no firewall protection, etc. and I got more emails than I can count on how to "enhance my male sexuality." It was so annoying!! I was a grandmother of 2 at the time.
Get a new email address, give it only to those that you want to hear from. Do not open attachments even if they are from your best friend, and dump the old address.
Yes, I kept all the emails....
Out of curiosity, on what grounds would an MTSO have to justify contacting any of my previous employers/MTSOs? I've been MTing at home for many years and I had no idea an MTSO would or could call other MTSOs and say things that are untrue.
I had thought about a lawsuit, but I'm afraid of her!
No, she is not at Seascript.
Emails
Yes, we started receiving emails of this nature addressed from our own email addresses before Christmas. I called my internet company and started sending them to their abuse address. I also started checking my mail through their port instead of my own email program for a while, still do X days a week. Also, they told me to run a good virus/spyware/malware program to see if I had a virus. I run McAfee, Spyblaster and downloaded Ad-aware. Spybot is a good program if it doesn't interfere with your virus program, it does with McAfee. Check out KimKomando.com. She talks about many free programs for different issues. Some information you can access, other you have to be a member. This mail has stopped for me.
if mt paid 9, editor paid 4 or 5...how can company charge 14 and make it..sm
I know the going rate in our area is 14 cents per line. As MTs most companies here pay us 8 or 9 cents a line. Now add in the Editor rate at 4 or 5 per line..you are paying OUT more than you can charge a line. How would companies stay in biz?
Unless all work is sent by the company overseas at pennies per line, this would not pay for a company.
just curious how this works out
Blank emails-me, too
I have always used Spybot and Adware SE, but read they sometimes miss things, so I just bought NoAdWare. Was I surprized at the stuff it found compared to the other ones (including Norton AntiVirus, and my server software)! I had 4 "dangerous" and 92 "severe" the very first day...that have been on my system for quite a while.
Since then, I have also been receiving blank emails. I'm now up to 5 every time I receive my mail. I've been getting a lot of junk mail all of a sudden and have no idea why. My favorites are winning the lotteries. If I believed them, I would have a bankroll of well over $100,000,000,000. The other ones where I am named in someone's will. Love it. Dream on.
Don't know what to say or what else to do about it without changing my email addess again, and I sure don't feel like doing that. I just did change it 3 months ago.
Generally no emails
As an IC at a small MTSO, if there is very low workloads, there is usually no email. I thought this was strange myself, since if it was my company, I would be keeping my people closely updated and thinking about them and their needs and anticipating their questions and concerns. I would have to take the initiative to email asking "is there anything wrong?" or "is something the matter with such-and-such account?" or "is there a technical problem somewhere?" I would then get an email answering my question. I think it is impolite and unprofessional for a business not to keep their people closely posted and put them first.
PS - the other emails are horrendous

stupid emails!
Does anybody know how to keep these ridiculous emails from coming? It seems like every day I'm getting more and more of them, you know, the ones that have absolute nonsense in the subject line? I don't read them, just delete them, but I must get 15 or 20 a day and I'm sick and tired of it. I feel like my privacy is being invaded, and it is just junk filling up my mailbox.
stupid emails
Okay then, again, thanks very much for your help. I am going to check this out because at this point I'll try anything to stop the insanity! It's just crazy the stupid, stupid stuff people send via email to clog up the mailboxes. I wonder, does anybody even READ this junk? And better yet, does anybody ever BUY stuff from this spam email? Sorry, I just get carried away with this subject; it's a true thorn in my side. Again, I thank you.
Yes, they can read the emails. nm

Maybe the *other* board is where the emails came from : )

Saving sent emails,,sm
saving sent emails may sound like a good idea, but that is taking up storage space in the email box. I don't know how much quota your email service provides, but mine is not that much, and I have business class. Your sent box is counted as part of your quota, as well, so it would not be advisable to store a months worth of sent emails, particularly with attached files. perhaps she should look into using an FTP site where you could store the files in My Documents and then just send via ftp, which is a whole lot faster than email and it is encrypted for transfer. suggest it to her. and then start charging her for time spent resending files. That is her job, not yours. my boss occasionally will ask for an individual file to be resent, but never a whole months worth. maybe you should also start looking for different employment. I could not work for someone who got mad at me for something she did. sorry. JMO.
She stated they were using them in emails,

lewd emails
Yes, I got a bunch of those. It came from a site that was sending me emails on panic disordewhich was totally unrelated to such things. The person who operated the panic attack site was very apologetic, she had been victimized by the viagra peddlers and unwittingly passed it on to her subscribers. My computer did not get the virus and I set spam filters to reject anything with Viagra, Cialis, Levitra and now the problem is almost gone. They do go in spam folder on AOL and I look there occasionally to be sure that some of my good email hasn't been accidently put there. Looking at the subject lines sometimes makes me laugh. these sex pill vendors are either semi literate and/or foreigners.
Check your emails! nm

Just was looking at another MT site and MTs from MQ are talking about getting emails from the
supervisor threatening them to hire more MTs if the accounts arent kept in TAT and they are sitting there with no work. I think MQ must be so desperate anymore that they are losing their minds. They must work for Amherst also. They keep hiring and hiring and if the weekend has one report out of TAT they hire more people. These companies are losing it I am afraid. I wonder if MQ is losing more accounts that they are doing this.
emails for action plan
and now they send out emails wanting to know our action plan for wkends, whether we are working, so they are cvd. no extra $$, just remind you to "get the lines while you can"
Your emails don't make sense
There are scam emails that claim to come from
Gotta be careful.
I tried that out once...WAY too many emails...DROVE ME NUTS!!!

I just use Outlook Express, so my emails - sm
our stored on my computer (40GB), so in my case it is not an issue. If the OP sends her emails the same, then she can easily save the work emails unless she has a very old computer with no substantial hard drive.
keep track of emails; keep producing; it's all you can do.

But how much are the US EDs gonna be paid? Typically this work is paid at 2-3 cpl. nm
:+
You don't get paid an hourly rate you get paid by line - sm
so because of how you are paid (not an hourly rate) you don't get OT, especially if you are an IC.
I would move on. I think it is so unfair not to be paid for spaces! I think we should get paid
per keystroke, but that'll never happen. I just think that these national companies are going to keep finding ways to cheat us. I found a job working for a hospital as an employee, paid hourly plus incentive, and they let us expand everything! Somebody's gonna have to kill me to make me give up this job. I will never go back to the national's again.
I feel for you though. I know that for us MTs those good jobs are few and far between and some have little choice but to work for the nationals. I just happened to luck into the job I have now. I just applied at the right time.
Good luck to you whatever you decide.
If those companies paid a fair wage, and paid more
all came out equal, people wouldn't feel the need to try to make up the deficit by going for the good stuff. I actually prefer the harder, juicier reports. But I can't make a living doing only that, because the pay is not commensurate with the difficulty. So even though I prefer not to, sometimes I have to pick up some of the easier, more boring 'line-o-matic' reports just to make ends meet. Tell your MTSO to make it work their while, and MTs will stop taking all the easy work away that you obviously would prefer to keep for yourself.
You wont show UE being paid because it is employer paid -
the employee will never have to pay this.
I use EXText with my current job and I've used at a couple of other jobs I've had. I've ne
used DocQscribe, but I have used Meditech, Cerner, Vianeta, the Precyse platform (I can't remember the name), Dolbey, and Lanier platform I think was called Cequence (?).
Out of all the different platforms I have typed on, I have liked EXText the best. In my opinion, it's very user friendly, easy to learn, and I really like ESP which is the built in abbreviation expander. Plus it is very easy to create your own normals which I love. My fingers literally never leave the keyboard because there are macro keys for everything. You can use your mouse if you prefer or learn the function macros. I love it. I think I'm more productive on EXText than with any other platform.
the grand total is 3 so far from the emails I am receiving....thanks everyone - nm

I am a supervisor and trust me you don't just send emails and
take it easy. There is a lot of responsibility to it and it is a stressful job.
Your email address is invisible to anyone who emails you
through the MTStars website. If you, however, reply, then the receiver would be able to see your email address.
Often it is the clerk who types up and sends emails. nm
