Anyone can recommend headphones--good to great sound--Help-- See inside

Hi everyone. I have a need for some headphones with great sound. Years ago at Radio Shack for approximately $50.00 you could get the best headphones, like the CIA uses for listening I think :) The sound was fantastic and far better than our MT headphones.
Well, now I have an account with very unclear, low volume. I just need better sound coming to the ears. Like in the olden days when I just typed because I could actually hear what they were saying!
If anyone has any great headphones, that minimize listening time and maximize typing time, please post or email me. I left my email address, just click the link to email. Thanks SOOOOOO much. Thanks. Really. Thanks.

Someone might recommend a type of equalizer. Headphones with a sound control on the line help, too.

Good luck to your daughter!!! The songs sound great!

best sound- WinScribe Dictaphone Transnet-NO- see inside
Best sound is Winscribe. Google it. Has excellent, excellent sound, far better than Dictatphone ExtText (see below). Has demographics that are with the job, however I don't know if it has a way to make the demographics automatically download into a document--- my company does its own programming for that. ? May be ask.
Dictaphone ExtText is tedious, tedious, tedious. I don't know why people like it. And the Expander that comes with it is poor, very few features that typists would use and a some that work against you-i.e. it won't capitalize an abbreviation you have put in, even if you type it in caps. I worked on it twice, 5 years apart, and they NEVER upgraded the sound or other features to make it more MT-friendly. A company that puts SO LITTLE EFFORT into their product for the end-user will never get my vote! My input, my opinion.
I found great headphones, GRADO LABS
Grado Labs SR60. I put a more detailed note down below, where I had asked for help with headphones. I love them. Great sound, comfortable, you forget they are on. I can just type and forget about the sound, such a relief. Like the olden days.
Can someone recommend a good company?
You can only find out so much from a company's website......of course they are not going to include "not enough work to keep you busy" or "so much work you will never leave your desk again" or even better yet "we really never send you a paycheck." I am looking for a full-time home-based position, preferably clinic, and I do have experience. Can someone recommend a company?!?!?!?!
Can someone recommend a good spellchecker? ~sm~
I want a spellchecker that comes on CD that I can use again if my computer crashes. I had to purchase a new computer because my old one crashed and I am in the process of installing all my programs and software on my new PC. I have a line counting program and a spellchecker but they are both on A discs and newer computers do not have an A drive. Also, these discs (which I did not know when I purchased them) only gave you so many installations so if you wanted to move it from computer to another you had to uninstall it from one. Since my old computer crashed, I cannot go in and uninstall it and put it back on the floppy. I can't even sell these two programs on ebay as I have no idea how many installations are left on them! I do not understand this - I realize companies are protecting themselves from a person purchasing their product and then giving it to their friends but I have had times when I had more than one computer in my home and they were all only for my use. After having this last computer crash, I realize that I need another back up computer because I make too much money working on it to be without it and I have commitments that I have to honor.
Found great headphones- GRADO LABS SR60
Thanks to all you who replied. At my local MAC store I found they had a display you could listen to the earphones. I bought GRADO LABS SR60, as the sound was good and they sit entirely outside your ear with BIG round ear pads.
When I got them home, the sound was GREAT for transcribing. Thank the Lord. Really. It was just like the old days, when I COULD TYPE AND NOT WORRY ABOUT THE SOUND. I did change settings on my sound card--it has an equalizer-- to New Wave or something, it seemed the best, and put the Wave file way down, and adjusted the volume on the speakers, and I was very happy.
I read on someone's review, some audio guy on the net, that Grado SR60's have not as much bass as the higher number models. But for transcription that is good.
Well, from my lips to God's ears, just in time, I am so happy. Really, I have bought a lot of headphones trying, but they have all been cheap. These are not that expensive, but they were great. The Bose were very good sound, but for transcribing, I did not think I'd like them. Plus they were heavier on the ears, more of a conventional fit around the ears and put pressure on the head. Another great thing about the Grado, they have a metal top piece that goes over the head -covered with leather or fake leather--the audio website said, you can rest that on the top of your head and take away some of the pressure on your ears. That helps relax and pretty soon you don't notice them, like with other headphones fighting all the time to keep them in position.
Thanks to all. Hope this helps someone. The sound is great.
Anyone recommend a good, reliable online...sm
pharmacy that they, themselves had used.. with no ripoffs? I know there are many reputable ones out there but also many scamful, dangerous ones. I know they are generally not cheap, but I need to know I'm getting what I ordered.
Can anyone recommend a good virus/security protection?
I currently use a program called PC cillin. I have used Norton, and with both I still managed to get "worms" on my computer. Also, my internet service is with AOL.
Thanks.
Could anyone recommend a good headset and where they got it. Mine keeps cutting out.
I have had a heck of a time finding a good set of ear phones.. Everytime I buy a pair they either break, cord isnt long enough or sound quality isnt good.. HELP...
Can anyone recommend a good, safe Canadian pharmacy? NM

Insurance is good, but I'd recommend you don't get too specific in coverage.
You could contact a company like Colonial Supplemental Insurance to get accident coverage and consider what other policies you might need, not just for your hands. After all, what if you are in an accident and it's your back that's keeping you away from your desk?
Good for you! You sound like a very nice and generous person and you deserve all your good luck! nm

Can anyone recommend any good acute care reference books
I am thinking of changing from clinic to acute care transcription. Can anyone recommend any good reference books that I should have? TIA
You sound like a great mom.
My 20-year-old son and I have had a similar discussion. I have told him that employers are now looking at MySpace and Facebook pages and if there's something on those that he wouldn't put in the church bulletin, they maybe he should take it off. What he does is his business and he is wise to keep it that way.
Wow, that really does sound great, and you'd
still have an interesting job where you could put your medical knowledge to use! A friend of mine is checking into becoming an EKG tech, which sounds pretty good too.
I just bought a pair of Able Planet (Lynx) NC Headphones I'll give you a great deal on! SM
I did a ton of research and found that many preferred these headphones over the Bose. They were actually more expensive. I paid over $300.00 for these! The only reason I purchased these was because I could charge them on my Dell account. They really are awesome. I can't even hear myself type when I turn on the NC feature. They are comfortable, but after 18 years as an MT, I've just gotten used to the stethoscope style or earbuds.
If you'd like to contact me, I'll give you an offer you can't refuse!
Need good headphones with mic
What must be my 5th headset bit the dust tonight. I have gone through so many and thought this was a keeper. I have had Microsoft, Altec, Radio Shack and a few I cannot even remember. After a few months the mic quits working (operator destruction I'm sure).
Anyone have any suggestions on a good headset with mic? I prefer over the ears but will consider something else if its good and will last.
Can somone recommend a good health insurance plan for my son who is in college? *sm*
He needed one more class for his bachelor's degree and because he is not considered full-time, he is no longer covered on my plan. Thanks.
Can anybody recommend a good seat cushion for my office chair? I'm having a lot of problems SM
with numbness in my tailbone, and left buttock with tingling down into my left leg and foot. I can't afford a new chair right now as I just bought this one six months ago. I have to get up and stretch out and walk around quite often during the day and its cutting into my production.
Can anywone recommend a good vacuum cleaner? My old one broke and has to be replaced. Thanks. NM

I think the sound quality is not that great.

eScription does sound like a great
company from what I've read. But I believe it is also a very young company and has only about 100 employees, so unless I'm wrong about that, I don't understand how they could buy a behemoth company and fix it.
I would buy a foot pedal and a good set of headphones.
Then I would down load Express Scribe. That way you have what you need to test for most companies. Beyond that, I would wait until you get a job before you purchase anything else. A lot of companies will load the software on your PC that they use, others provide all equipment, and still others expect that you purchase whatever they require you to use.
If you want my opinion, I would work for a company as an employee for a while. That way they provide you with everything you need and you get the experience you need to move on to bigger and better things.
Wish Escription would mention that when they recommend the adapters or just recommend the one. nm
MDI is a great company. (See inside)
First off, Liz was not "promoted", she is the prior owner of the company.
Jason was fired.
We have very low turnover in team leaders, and the last time it was posted was around March of this year.
Good points about the backlogs, I will make sure that Deb & Terri send out the list of accounts that are out of TAT
For Trish: That's great!. See inside..
More or less VR is still in the beginning stages and doctors are not very enthusiastic about this idea, so I read and heard.
As we already stated VR is far from perfect and puts still a lot of strain on the MT editing VR.
But VR is the future of medical transcription and the sooner MTs jump on board the better it is for them; VR technology will get better and better.
I heard that some doctors even prefer to do their own dicating a n d editing and if the VR technology improves, a lot of them will do it.
First, congrats on your new job - sounds great -see inside
One thing I would suggest is the electronic version of Stedman's Orthopedic word book and the Neurology word book. There are others too. Sure beats looking through a paper copy and more professional as it looks as if you are working on the computer instead of stopping and looking in a book. This saves me time also. Again I am sure you will do great! Best wishes!

Express Scribe is GREAT for downloading sound files for testing for different companies!
Express Scribe Transcription Playback Software
This software works as a transcriber that downloads into your computer and allows you to receive files and use your footpedal. I have used it a lot when applying for jobs and testing, especially because I can then use my footpedal and not my keyboard to advance the sound files. This is a free download too, so use it if you have to. I highly recommend it.....

GET A GOOD SOUND CARD.
I was having problems understanding certain doctors. I changed the sound card in my computer and what a difference that made. It spend around 70.00 to do this but my production line count went up and my errors went down. Also, invest in a good pair of head phones. I spent 50.00 on a pair of Sony earbud earphones (noise reduction type) at Best Buy. They are the best of the best. Good luck to you.
WW is a good sound program (sm)
that nearly anyone can follow because it involves "real food" and no restrictions. I don't know about you, but when I'm told I can only eat this or that and not to eat this or that, that's when I start to fail at a "diet."
I see someone else suggested Atkins, and from what I've seen of a lot of people on that, usually it's not a lifestyle choice. They lose weight but if they change their eating habits, pounds come back with a few friends. South Beach, from what I understand, is also along the way of Atkins but they do promote good carbs, I'm guessing whole wheat/grains as opposed to simple sugar grains.
If you are currently not overdoing it on calories and following a fairly healthy diet, I would suggest upping the amount of time you walk, plus making sure you are getting in plenty of water. I walk 5 miles per day, takes 60 minutes, and in my weight loss phase, I lost on average 2 pounds per week. Sometimes 2-1/2, but averaged per month about 8-10 pounds. Do you have an extra 30 minutes to add to your walking regimen? Also, I did light toning, which also helps burn more calories, even at rest.
I don't know what your budget is like, but you could probably drop that extra 20 simply by walking more.
geeezz that does not sound good

Doesn't sound too good sm
I wonder if there is something else we could use our skills in that makes more money, maybe in medical records or billing and coding. Maybe being paid in something that pays hourly would be more beneficial. I am aware there are medical transcriptionists who really do make good money with benefits. Guess they have the right accounts to do so.
Doesn't sound good, does it?
Since it's the line coming to your house that matters and TW apparently has the monopoly on that, you may have to crunch some numbers to see if it's worth it to rethink how you pay for your entertainment bundle. Ours is bundled as satellite TV/phone/DSL. If we had cable as opposed to DSL, it would definitely be easier to regroup. I wish you luck.
Please keep the puppy away from that little girl. I don't like the sound of it. Good for you sm

so whose job was it to hire these MTs? doesn't sound like they did a good job.
who else you want to relieve of their work duties? the recruiters, the testers, the trainers, the owners?

good thinking!!! SM inside :)
Good post - good thinking but really, as MTs, we already know we cannot *assume* anything - even on a bulletin board. There are posters who annoy me too and those posters drive away the informative posters which is terribly unfortunate because many of them (the informative posters) are full of GREAT information that they are willing to share. I hate them being driven away by a couple of handfuls of perpetrators.
You cannot assume everyone is that poster - you can think it's them but there's no proof, really, when you think about it. Only the moderators/administrator know who is who on the boards. If things get nasty, they remove all the nasty threads.
GMTA - remember this - great minds think alike - we don't need to lower ourselves to the perps (lack of) standards.
Sound like a good guy who has the sense to realize he is not speaking to a machine.
Sound is usually good. Separate line is better if you don't want to tie up your main phone all

Good Question... answer inside.. sm
My husband's exwife retained a free attorney.. two of them in fact, one after the other.. They agreed to take her case pro bono.. why? I don't really know.. maybe they get a tax break for taking free cases. Apparently she just kept calling attorneys telling her "story", got them to feel sorry for her or something.. she claimed abuse falsely and is the worst case of verbally poisoning her children this county has ever seen.. she ended up kidnapping the children after spending time in a psych facility, she served time but pled to a lesser charge to avoid deportation to Canada, her home country. She is manipulative and nasty.. she no longer has custody of her children and doesn't abide by the court rules to even get her supervised visitation anymore. Such a winner! Why would any attorney defend such a person? Good Question...

Arizona's standard issue: We don't change clocks
State is last continental U.S. holdout on idea of saving daylight
John Faherty The Arizona Republic Apr. 2, 2006 12:00 AM
The rest of the country wakes up this morning asking one simple question: What time is it?
But not here. In Arizona we know exactly time it is. It's standard time, and it never changes.
The fact that we sit in blissful time innocence while the rest of the country tries to figure out how to adjust the clock on their car radio and wonders if TiVo will make the necessary adjustments is not an important thing, but it does say a lot about who we are.
We are independent. We have a contrarian's streak, and if something doesn't make sense, we don't want to do it. And now we are alone in the continental U.S. This morning some counties in Indiana switched to daylight-saving time, leaving just Arizona and Hawaii. Of course, people who have been here long enough know Arizona has been on daylight-saving time before. The whole country went on DST during both World Wars to save energy. After 1945 however, states and communities across the country were allowed to stay on DST or opt out. Arizona went off right away. The nation became a time puzzle as states and communities were able to pick if, and even when, they would switch their clocks. It was a mess best illustrated by the fact that the Twin Cities - Minneapolis and St. Paul - sometimes were an hour apart. Finally, in 1967 the Uniform Time Act was instituted, putting the entire country on daylight-saving time. Everybody had to do it for one year, and then states could opt out if they wanted to. Farmers nationwide complained vehemently but nearly every state just stayed with the status quo. But not Arizona. It didn't make sense to people here. We had enough sunshine and didn't need to "save" any. Besides, the sun stayed out so late here during the summer that if we set our clocks ahead by an hour it would be almost 10 p.m. by the time the sun set in June and July. The owners of drive-in theaters complained vehemently. This was nearly 40 years ago and drive-ins actually had some juice. So in March 1968, the state went standard and stayed there. Which means people here will be getting phone calls for the next couple of weeks asking, "What time is it there?" But we don't care. We never saw a need to change our clocks and switch our watches, so we won't do it. Before we get too smug though, we need to remember there was a time when our independence put us in an awkward time frame. For a while people living in the Territory of Arizona actually switched to something called "Phoenix Time." There was a long-running debate about whether Arizona was more closely affiliated with California and the West, or Colorado and the Santa Fe Railroad in New Mexico. A now-laughable compromise was reached. "Phoenix Time" split the difference, putting us half an hour after Pacific Time and half an hour before Mountain Time. It was dropped in 1910, and now we just set our clocks and let the world move around us.
