I use Microsoft Works version 7.0. It does everything I need as far as my business goes. I also use it to track my line count and my IRA expenses as well. A very versatile program.

Line counting/invoicing software
I'm wondering if there is any line counting software that "stores" each individual doctor's line counts time after time, and then will provide invoicing (say twice a month) from those stored line counts. I'm looking for a way to just store up the line counts for each doctor, go in twice a month and easily send invoices for those stored line counts. Not sure if this can be done. Thank you!

Need suggestions on a desktop calendar software for my PC. SM
I'm looking for something that works similar to the calendar feature in Outlook. I want to input appointments and reminders and have a little pop box come up to remind the day before.
Any suggestions for a good program?

Software suggestions for line counting. MP Count is not helpful
I am doing an IC job and was going to use MP Count because it also prepares an invoice. The problem is.. I dont think the line counts are correct. I swear I only did like 6-10 clinic notes and it had my line count at 1100. Am I doing something wrong or is there a better program out there. I hate to spend a lot of money as this is only a temporary fill-in job for this week but I want to be fair. I put in 65 characters and I charge .10 a line.. I just cant see charging over $100 for just that many notes. Any suggestions?

Free AV software
The free version of AVG is the only one that I'd recommend among the freebies. My preference would be either the "total" AVG product (not free) or Norton.
Unfortunately, no single AV software is able to catch every single virus. You have to consider that by some estimates there are a thousand or more viruses being released every day, which means that no virus software can hope to be 100% up to date.

Best free encryption software? sm
I'm going out of town tomorrow, kind of a mini family emergency, and for the first time will have to drag my laptop along to work. The encryption software on my main computer cannot be transferred to the laptop. Anyone have opinions on free encryption software that is fast to install, good quality, and easy to use. I don't have enough time to learn new software or putz with it. Thanks.

Just bought a new computer and need to load a linecounting software program. Used to have MTCount which was free but now it has changed to MTTools and is no longer that way. Any suggestions?

I am in need of a software that plays .dvf files. I currently use Gear Player, and although it plays a multitude of different files, I can't get it to play .dvf. Does anyone know of a free one online I can try? Thanks!!

I need a software program similar to GearPlayer, free or cheap. Is there one that anyone can recommend? I want one that would work with the GearPlayer footpedal I have or with easy keyboard commands to start, stop, rewind, etc.
I ran across a site months ago that had older versions of Stedman's spellchecker for $30 or so. If anyone knows that site, or one similar, please share that info, as well.
I also need WordPerfect, as new a version as I can get, but as inexpensive as I can get, also.

Hi. I am a newbie here. I did a search in the forums but did not really find anything. I am going to be doing some work, for the first time in a long time, on digital voice files. I have an "Infinity" foot pedal and was wondering if anyone could recommend a good, free software that will allow me to listen to the wav files and use my foot pedal. I would prefer one that would let me speed up and slow down......any suggestions? I appreciate any help. Thanks

Download FTP SERVER software (it can be found free). Then have the docs
upload their files to YOUR server. There is no cost to you or the doc to do this. Someone does have to pay for the recorder, which I have chosen to do for 2 docs. The other one purchases his own when needed (twice in 7 years). One picks up files on FTP server. The other 2 still want theirs printed. Since they are not in same city, I mail them via snail mail and they are happy with that. I also do fax any stat reports to them at no charge simply because I have unlimited long distance.
Anybody know of any free foot pedal/transcription software besides Express Scribe? TIA. nm

Where's best place to obtain credit score?
I know I see Free Credit Report all the time on the internet, but they are not really free, right? Don't you have to sign some sort of protection coverage and pay a monthly fee? Is the best place straight through the Equifax, TransUnion and that other place? (Can't think of the name of it right now). I'm in the market for a new house and want to make sure everything is okay. Gross line counts are easier to obtain IF you have sm
a fixe font; however, 6 cents is not enough. I would not accept under 7.5 cents a gross line and only on a FIXED fot with the margins spelled out. For instance, if they say a 65-space gross line, that means 1-inch margins on each side. Of course, anything on a line is counted as a line and that means if there is only 1 character, that is counted as a line, but always get it spelled out the type of font that will be used because if you have true type fonts, you could be doing as much as 125 characters on a line.
As good as gross lines sound, today's world is not really based on that and it is much easier to calculate a 65-character line in the perspective of today's world.
I don't know how much experience you have, but even if you have just a few years, that still is not good pay and again, if it is a TT font, you would only be making something like 3-1/2 cents to 4 cents per 65-character line.

Hello! When I started as an IC a few months back, the great MTs on this board recommended this free invoicing site. They have a version you can upgrade to, but the free version works for me! I modify it a tad each week, but its great! Very professional looking! Here's the link:

You can use Quick Books or Quicken and put in the amount by hourly rate or per line. Anyway, works great for me.

I use Quick Books and love it, been using it for 15 to 20 years. I basically just give them a total line count for each day of the month. It totals for you. But my accounts never question my counts so I don't have to provide any back up. They give me a daily schedule, when done I do my line count and put in on the schdule. Enter the daily totals onto their invoice weekly and by the end of the month, I am ready to print. I usually just hand it in when I do a delivery. They pay within 2-3 days. I do not breakdown for letters/consults/chart notes -- just a line count per doctor per day.

Just a question, don't get mad. I moved out of Delaware many, many years ago. The wages there are below national levels (don't know if its changed) and I found I could not be a single mom and buy a decent home for my child there. I did research and ended up in Florida where there is no state tax and cost of living was a lot cheaper. Even though we moved away from family, I think it was the best decision I ever made.
Need help with invoicing, first time...
I have to count my own lines for the first time for an invoice. Before this I worked with Emdat and that produces a line count for me. If anyone would be so kind as to help me out I'd greatly appreciate it. I want to be sure I am paid what I should be without overcharging either.
This is how the it was explained to me by the recruiter "Only space between words is counted, while empty lines, tabs, headers, footers, standard templates and hard enters are not counted."
So, when using a counting program how do I set that up? (I downloaded the Sylcount software, but could/would download another if it is easier) What is the easiest way to do this? I'm confused right now, and probably too tired to be trying to do this at the moment anyway...

Invoicing program
Well, I just bought Quickbook Simple Edition 2007. It supposedly is very highly rated and very user friendly. Don't know if it the same as Quicken, but we will see. Got a good deal though, $35 on Ebay, brand new and sealed, not a return. This is $99 retail. Thank you all for your input. I knew I would get help on this board.

Plus i've noticed on my bills, my taxes are higher, about 3-6 dollars. Nickel and diming us there as well.
