I had my computer crash this week. I was installing everything over again, but I can't find my Stedman's Smart Type patch and I NEED IT so I can get back to work. Anybody have it who would be willing to send it to my email?
I would really appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

Smart Type
You are better off just using one Expander at a time. There are things that ST will do that IT will not and vise versa. It is a matter of figuring out what is best for your needs.
You are welcome to email me and I can answer more specific questions for you.
Smart Type with
MedRite-XL ... what would the benefits of using Smart Type rather than the MedRite expander? Need to to anything I can to get faster.
I never used Smart Type but IT is at the bottom sm
It takes up about the bottom third of my screen. You can change the size, but I have it set to give me about twelve lines because I have a lot of templates that start by the doc's name, so I can have twelve templates that start the same - Smithcons, Smithdch, SmithHandP - and need to be able to scroll and pick the one I want. It may be that it can be positioned in another place, but this is how I started using it and have never checked for something different.
It took me a couple of weeks to get real comfortable with watching the bottom of the screen, but once you get doing it, it becomes a rhythm. I am so used to it that I am forever sending emails to my sister with my unexpanded expansions. Like another poster said, success relies on "thinking" your Expander and constantly building it in ways that make sense to you.
I have a massive glossary - 16869 words, 57341 phrases. Some of it is glossaries that came with it, some of it is glossaries I downloaded (I don't remember where, it was years ago) and some of it is things I have added over the years - including full templates for every doc I can. Some of it is from compilations - you can take a bunch of reports and have it analyze them for commonly occurring phrases and it then creates contiuations - like if you do "the patient was" then it will suggest "prepped and draped" "discharged to home" "given a prescription for" "alert and oriented" and you just scroll to the right one and plop it in.
I know a lot of it goes unused and some of it is duplicate, but I haven't taken the time to go clean it out. It is a constantly shifting, evolving process and I think that is what makes it so productive for me. Granted, I have never used anything else other than Auto Correct, so there may be better out there, but this works great for me.
If Smart Type is the same as Shorthand, I think it is, there should.....
not be a problem using it with any program, it works outside programs, meaning it should not interfere. I have used ShortHand for years and it has never interfered with any and I mean any program I have ever used. Hope this helps.
I use Smart Type with Extext and sm
I just love it. VERY productive from the first day with Extext. It is a breeze to learn and I find I make very good lines.
SmartType vs Smart Type Assistant
Are these one and the same or different? Does Smart-Type work in Dictaphone Extext platform?
Thanks in advance for any help from anyone.
Yes, but can you convert a Smart Type glossary?

Shorthand users: Is there a way to type a word, use a slash and then type another word..sm
immediately following the slash and have it expand. For example if I needed to transcribe mass/sebaceous cyst, is there a way to use my expanded sebaceous cyst without having to back space after I type the slash mark? TIA
Instant Text versus Smart Type
Which one is considered the best and has anybody out there used both? Which one is easiest to learn.
Smart Type, versus InstanText and ShortHand, etc.
I have used all of these. I hated ShortHand. Shortcut was not much of a short cut. Smart Type allowed me to type the most in the shortest length of time, end of the story. HOWEVER, Smart Type will limit your career since you can't use it in Windows and all these strange platforms that are out there.
InstanText versus Smart Type with the same library...only very slightly less production and I am not proficient with IT at all, not yet. I almost like IT better than ST because the order of expansions is static. ST for Word will rearrange it all for you each and every time you open it. I liked the DOS program a lot better and I can never have that back. As I am learning IT I am again becoming familiar with my shortcuts. I had gotten "sloppy" about typing my actual abbreviations because ST will let you type a couple of letters and you see the word in the line, space bar and it drops in. I am working more than one job so I have enough work and I use ST for one and IT for the other. The more I use IT the faster I am getting in both IT and ST. I am thinking that once I have adjusted the IT to the best possible fit for my needs I'll switch completely to IT.
Ladies, it is not really about the expander, it is about the library/glossary. If you only have a few hundred entries you are working way too hard. You need thousands of entries to maximize your efforts (I have about 22,000 of them). This is one of those times when it is different strokes for different folks.
There are many libraries/glossaries out there, some you can put into more than one program, some are program specific. Some are free and some you have to pay for (I give mine away). Get a good one, learn to use it, "think" in it and stick with it. That is how about any of them will pay off.
Smart Type or Instant Text for Psych?
Hi all,
I type mostly psych evaluations, but I do type some clinic notes. I've been using AutoCorrect in Word, and I have been advised to invest in a good Expander to increase productivity. I can't decide between smart type or instant text? Which is better and why?
I loved 5.1 with Smart Type and miss it, but I make more now sm
I don't think it is the platform (Extext) or the work (now acute, but 5.1 time was with clinic), I think it is me being better able to do the job and a more steady flow of work.
don't type double spaces. Type single. Then no one will be cheated.
x
I can type with wine, can't type with coffee, though...too jittery.
x
That is, type the code above before and after what you want bolded in the text-to-type box. nm

No need to be smart with him. He's got my
respect for having earned his degree, whether or not he's working in that field and for whatever reason.
Not because they are smart...because they
IQ was never the issue!
If they are smart and get out ;)

We are just so smart... sm
and great at what we do that we need a challenge once in a while. No, switching professions is not the answer if your desire is to stay at home. I have found that helping each other through these message boards has been quite invigorating, and to know that I am not alone in my endeavors is quite reassuring, I must say!
Smart Gal!
Yes, this is the only job I believe where the salary goes down in time instead of up. You are smart to find another career. I have been in this line of work over 20 years and only wish I had made another move early on. Good luck to you.
To AOL users
Please note that once the email validation system (EVS) is operational on all boards (today), the ban on specific AOL IP addresses will be removed.
We apologize for the inconvenience, but thanks to one or two problem posters, we had no choice but to place the ban until EVS is in place.
If you have any questions, please email admin@mtstars.com.
You are one smart person,
this, Soft Script would go out of business!!! THAT WOULD BE AWESOME.
Smart Young Man
Your son sounds like a very smart young man. Not many kids these days truly care about their education. They look at high school as a party/social time, and dont look into the future what so ever, and said thing is a lot of our children are not getting the guidance from home either.
My son loves to learn and loves to be challenged and with him being home schooled we are able to do so.
And one other positive note on home schooling college intrance exams have shown that home schooled kids are just as smart if not smarter than those who go to public or private schools. The one on one they get is a big big factor in that.
Best of Luck!!!!!!!
work smart - -
You must be an IC. Yes?? Is that where "it's" at?
Monkey's are too smart for the job! LOL - nm

That's a smart post.
I like how you think. Very good.
info on Smart Med
Their pay is pretty good. Bennies pretty good. Platform not so good. Tech support leaves much to be desired.
There just might be, but rather than be smart alec

Transcriptionists are smart!
I had a doctor say to his "residents" that they should do transcription because I was answering all of the questions they could not, just because I've transcribed for so many years! That was kind of a nice feeling, if I do say so myself! So... maybe we could all be doctors some day!
smart move. JMO

You're smart to do that.
You must feel much less bored and isolated by getting out into the real world and taking part in something more involved-feeling.
Really Smart Docs
From OB ultrasound report: "The fetus is single."
Good for that fetus! No fetus should marry before being born.
that's pretty smart.
will have to remember that.
You are 1 smart cookie
No matter what your age, you have done all the right things in order to have things go smoothly and be a productive worker at home. I like your way of doing things!
Is this legal or just not very smart? (sm)
I have a cardiologist who dictates from a template. Even if he does not mention things from the template, they are to be left in (negatives and positives). This includes in the PE a respiratory rate of 12. He never mentions it, but I have been told to leave it in. The odds of every patient he sees having a respiratory rate of 12 are pretty astronomical, and I think a lawyer could have fun with this if pressed. My supervisor agrees but feels we should give the client what they want.
Not too smart a question
I am sure, but I am totally new to digital transcription, as I have always used tapes. I have a service I am wanting to test with who sent me a voice file. I am using Express Scribe. The file is an .exe file, and I cannot get Express Scribe to accept it. What am I doing wrong?
It is smart to have 2 jobs if you can - sm
I have 2 IC jobs, though I don't work at the 1 much anymore (just weekends if I am not too busy); I have more accounts now with the 1 job (didn't have enough work like you before) though stilll not making quite what I want but slowly creeping up to my goal. I have the other IC job to fall back on if needed which is nice to know. I also have 1 account of my own and am about to seek some more out, so maybe I can reach my personal goal. But is it smart to have 2 jobs since if one dries up or they lose the account you are on then you still have income coming in.
smart gloves
Love the smart gloves. they have sort of a bean bag on the palm and do not restrict your typing at all.
Smart expander?
Does anyone know of a "smart" expander? One that remembers what you type and makes expansions for you? I think someone said Instant Text does but I'm not sure. Maybe there isn't one? Just wondering!
TIA!
As smart as doctors are, WHY
don't they have sense enough not to dictate on cell phones & speakerphones?! They dictate punctuation & spelling to make sure their report is perfect, but then dictate it on a cell phone cutting in and out?!
Any green tea users out there?
I have tried green tea on 2 separate occasions and both times experienced what appears to be bloody stools with it. As soon as I stop the intake of the tea, the blood goes away. I really like the tea as it does a good job of promoting energy and weight loss, but I cannot understand why it causes this reaction. Would anyone have any idea why this happens? Is there another natural energy booster I can try? Thanks for any and all help.
It is MQ-wide for DQS users?
Well, I sure would hope it would be for SE's too, as some of us also use DQS. I havent heard anything, nor gotten a letter or check..Im wondering is it MQ-wide? All of MQ that uses DQS? Or could it be just certain regional offices did not have the count of lines set up right?
TransNet users
1. Have long have you been using TransNet? Is it hard to learn?
2. Does it work with Word 2003?
3. Do you d/l the files through a modem or through a cable or DSL line?
4. If you have a cable or DSL line ... how long would it take for you to download, say, all of the Alta Bates or Sequoia reports. I ask about those only because I can translate that into lines in my head. IOW, "it takes 1 hour to d/l a full day of Alta Bates." This way I could figure out where things would stand on one of the accounts I work on.
5. Would you rather use TransNet or C-phone? Why (whatever your choice is) <-- this is the critical question, so feel free to go into detail
6. What happens if you've download a batch of files and your hard drive crashes? Are those files gone forever or are the "originals" still on the master system?
Flashtype users?
I recently downloaded Flashtype expander. I like the set up of being able to put in what I want but I am having trouble with capitalization. I work in Meditech and the CAPS status sometimes changes for no reason. This program is also suppose to print in all CAPS if wanted but this does not happen either except only occasionally. It also does not capitalize the word at the beginning of a sentence if it is typed so such as Copd, Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. It does all lower case. Is there something I can do or is just a program error or is it just using it with certain programs such as Meditech?
Just wanting to know if any IT users
would care to share tips on getting started with Instant Text, especially the best way to go about customizing the glossaries . . . just received my IT and I'm anxious to get going, but it does seem that there is a learning curve and takes some getting used to.
Thanks to all!
For DSL users..... is it possible to use a C-phon
and still have your home phone hooked up and running for calls? I remember trying to get a fax machine to work about a year ago and I ended up getting a new phone line for that because it ended up being too much trouble and SBC was of no help. Any suggestions?
DocQscribe users sm
Does anyone work for more than 1 company that uses DocQscribe. I work for 1 company with DocQScribe and just got a part-time job at another company that uses DocQscribe. Is there any way to use DocQscribe for 2 companies on 1 computer?
Thanks!
? for TransNet users
What do you use to listen to the dictation, and where do you plug it in?
EXText Users - help
I too am looking for ways to cut keystrokes. For those who use EXText and the Word client, can you tell me how to set it up to automatically start each sentence with a capital letter? Also, how do you set it up to space twice after a sentence?
Thanks again!
Vianeta Users
I have read old posts from users who do not like Vianeta. I would like to hear from those MTs who have used this software and like working with it. Is it better since the new owners took over? Do you prefer Vianeta to any other software? What is your favorite feature? I am not a Vianeta representative, just interested in your opinion.
Thanks!

Shorthand users
I'm not sure if this will help you or not but it can't hurt to check.
On the autoreplace options page in ShortHand there's a box called "options" after the line for Use Alt+Ins to add current word to dictionary. Click on the options and make sure there is not a blank space in the keyword suffix box.
It used to make me nuts because every time I created a new shorthand entry it would put a space and . behind it and I had to manually delete them. I did that for 5 years before someone told me about that suffix box and sure enough the space and period were in there.
Hope this helps.
