Mary, I have never worked for Transcend so I don't know much about the company except what I see here and by looking at their web site. It looks as though they offshore, never a good sign as it usually means low pay at the very least. If you don't have a problem with offshoring, and you should, then think about giving it a try. If India is in there, you probably won't be treated very well. I have been told it is a "cultural thing." Whatever.
Cranky Beach, I worked for a wonderful company (never though I'd leave) that was acquired by Acusis, a company with major offshoring. It was the same situation as you, they told us everything would stay the same, nothing would change. They were just biding their time . . . and after a while they started throwing all management from the old company under the bus. Then it was change after change after change, none for the better, mostly to transition to running things "the India way" and eventually ended up cutting everyone's pay. Soooo glad to be out of there.

I guess I'd be cranky too, if I had such an (sm)
uncreative, BoringAss job. At least MTs are creating something real.
cranky beach
I would have to agree with you on the tools. I was semi-retired for six years due to pain syndrome from what they are now calling "repetitive stress syndrome" MT itis is what I called it. LOL
I have been called cranky but it is because I can't be disturbed
even for a few minutes. I get irritated when I tell people that I am working and they look at me like, "yeah, right!!!" I end up being abrupt when talking. My office is by my front door and if someone comes to my door, I answer through the window. I have thought about a note saying "no solicitors." I rarely answer the phone unless I hear my supervisor or the voice of my QA person. I can't afford to stop and talk or make an error because I was in the middle of a report and stopped, then started only to make a mistake (it happens to me more often then than any other time).
Cranky staff is not your imagination.
The attitude you describe seems to be prevalent. It is as if we were a necessary evil rather than support staff. I think personally it is due to the amount of time needed to keep the paperwork in order. Everyone hates paperwork (even if it is electronically) and we produce a ton of it.
Also, in my view, physicians and care providers absolutely hate to make errors given their jobs are so important and the likelihood of a lawsuit keeps them paying very high premiums. We MTs tend to be one of the few who can say that an error has been made. It can irritate some doctors though I have met a few who are very thankful for it.
In the 20 plus years I have been in the medical field, there has been a change due to pressure from insurance companies also, plus the change in patient complaints as the population ages. This may add to frustration as the bottom line is not only finding relief for the patient but making sure treatment is approved by insurances. This can only get worse from where I sit as cuts are coming with Medicare and Medicaid payments.
kudos to cranky beach
LOL... I just have to say this cranky beach...... with that nickname I would not have thought you to be so helpfulllllll....LOL You are just a peach of a person to be taking your time to help...and for that I send you mucho kudos......thanks....even though it is not me you are helping here.
yes, your cranky; the patient visits are actually coded sm
due to time spent in the room. this is to document to CYA if needed. so remember, the more you talk in the room with your doc, the higher bill you will see. like office visit, regular; office visit extensive, etc.
Yes, you're cranky. The docs may be instructed to do so to appease Medicare or other such entity.

Mary Kay all the way
Hi. I have used (and sold) Mary Kay since my early 20's. (I am now in my 40s) I have strayed from the path to other brands twice, and my face did not like them. So, I always always come back to Mary Kay. The newest and greatest is our microderm abrasion set! I SWEAR I HAVE NEW SKIN
Mary Kay
Skin care is so important....especially after 30!!! I love Mary Kay's Time Wise Cleanser and Moisturizer and the Microdermabrasion is unlike any other on the market!! I wouldn't want to be without it - EVER!! It's a staple in my budget! I highly recommend it for every skin type!! It's GREAT! Lisa
Mary Kay
I don't know where you get your information, but Mary Kay DOES NOT test products on animals!

Way to go Mary! Yum yum......
Mary.....(sm)
I have the exact same problem as you right now. Because of it, I am not having any success with installing the latest version of McAfee. It's actually stopping me from putting the anti-virus software on my computer. I was just wondering if you were able to solve your problem? I have no idea how to get rid of it?!!
Anyone know where Mary Patterson (of YOG)

Mary Kay is the bestest!
I've used it since I was an early teen (Mother sold it). She started me young because my older sister had horrible acne (it worked miracles on her). In my entire life I've had MAYBE 5 pimples :)
I'm 50 now, and looked way younger than my years ... until I went through treatment, which aged me, but I still look pretty good for a 50 year old.
I also tried a couple of other skin cares (VERY temporarily). My face itched, turned red, etc. I came straight back to MK, and won't stray again.
There's another one similar to Mary Kay... sm
called BeautiControl...talk about expensive!! On the other hand, I love Pampered Chef and most of their products, but can't stand some of the pushy consultants who think you just "need to have a party!" I understand that they make a living doing what they do, but give me a break!
Congrats Mary! :-) nm

Au Contraire, Mary...
I've SEEN voice recognition, through Escription, at its finest. It is most definitely not a fantasy on the other poster's part. The technology is amazing but, yes, it does continue to require human overseers for minor cleanup even when working at its best. These dictators were so good, even Escription could detect the subtle differences in, for example, Xanax and Zantac and various other sound-alike drugs.
The blessing and the curse of the technology is, it can only be as good as the humans dictating. We've all seen the deterioration in the quality of dictators, particularly over the past 3-5 years. While most of us tend to complain about sloppy dictators, indecisive 'transcriptionist, go back up' throughout the entire report, ESLs, etc., those are the MTs saving grace. With those types of dictators, the technology will never be able to fully render us obsolete.
In a perfect world with near-perfect dictators and the ability to edit their own work, I sadly predict we would all be looking for a new career within 5 years.
The technology is there and, in the right scenario, it's frighteningly accurate. Luckily, the all-too-human dictators are holding it back from rendering us obsolete.

There you go again,Mary, answering
tsk, tsk, tsk...
Right, Mary...Keep telling yourself that

Who are you calling mary?
I AM NOT MARY! There you go again, thinking you are so darn smart. Well, you got the wrong person this time.
Exactly. That's how Mary Kay hooks women-SM
by showering them with positive attention, atta girl, you go girl. It is unnecessary and we are not dogs.
Maybe you remember as Nannay Mary on

i agree with Mary Kay prod's
i started using them because i complimented several georgeous-skinned older women and every one of them used Mary Kay. I was a consultant for 10 years, and still use the products. My mom uses Oil of Olay. Maybe its as good, but i am a believer in Mary Kay.
p.s. men typically poo-poo such notions -- nature of the beast i guess. This is very personal, its YOUR skin, so YOU should make the decision with no guilt!
I cannot use Mary Kay because they test on animals - sm
But I do use Estee Lauder and Oil of Olay. I consulted three dermatologists on getting Botox and they all said no way for me because I have no WRINKLES around my eyes or forehead ... at 39 years of age!
Have you had the frozen Mary B's biscuits?

Mary Morkin's list
Check out http://www.mtdaily.com/abbvs.txt I got Mary Morken's list from there. I believe there are 13,000 of them listed.
Also see http://www.mtdaily.com?mt1/abbv2.html That should give you even more links.
I'm referring to a printout I did in 2005 so I hope these are still good sites. I incorporated the lists into my own. Some abbreviations I like, some I don't and have changed once I developed my own system, but this will give you an idea just what you can do. But do get the book so you will know how to THINK in short form and come up with your own system. It took me a while to see how my brain worked and I've made modifications but boy do I depend on them to produce!
I'm sure Mary is real; why the exclamation?
nm
No, I was agreeing that Mary's arrogant.

wow, hard to believe that Mary Kay products would cause allergies - sm
when they test on animals!!!! They have voiced to the public that they WILL NOT stop testing on animals.
And before anyone jumps down my throat, I am being sarcastic about my subject line. The point I'm trying to make is that Mary Kay tests ALL OF THEIR products NEW AND OLD on animals. Part of their reason was to "prevent allergies in humans" .... rrrrriiiiggghhttt
And you're miss Mary Sunshine, right?
nm
Wow, Mary. I live in BG too. Congrats. I'm jealous!

Mary Kay recieved awards for NOT testing!
See the link below to see that they do not. It is directly from PETA.

Mary, don't feel like you need to defend yourself or your questions...
Some people are just plain rude and maybe need a second job to occupy their time instead of lurking on this board waiting to make a nasty comment.
I was surprised when I first saw that too.
Mary Morken expander system
I need to make at least $150 a day every day. Where can I find a Mary Morken's method?
Thanks
She's right! The Mary Kay lip care is the ONLY MK stuff i use, works GREAT. nm

I use the same - Love oil of Olay! Mary Kay breaks my face out. nm

Mary Kay and Estee Lauder don't test, but Oil of Olay does.

Mary Morken's 2007 list of abbreviations SM
You can import Mary's list, or just copy it onto a CD or a little flash drive, I think it might be too big to print it out. Looking it over will give you a good idea of how to go about adding to your own list as well. There are 600+ dictators on the account I work on, so keeping whole reports doesn't work too well for me, and I have tried to make shortcuts for phrases instead. Also for capitalizing drug names that need it, and for correcting my most common errors. Happy New Year! Wise
Absolute truth, I had problems like this until trying the Mary Kay Satin Lips. sm
There are 3 parts, a balm, mask and triple-action enhancer. I used it twice a day for less than a week and the chapped lips are gone. It really does work and is worth it.

QA comment
I just wanted to say a few things from the world of QA. There are some MTs who get dictators the likes of which I just cannot even describe as far as ESLs. Oh my. My heart just bleeds for you all - I mean it. I don't know how you do it, the dictators are that awful. But most of you MTs who get these language-murdering dictators struggle and persevere thru usually endless reports. It IS noticed, though you might think its not. Not that peon QA people can do anything for you, but I do notice and applaud you. And I DO mention names of these MTs to account managers on a regular basis, praising their effort on these impossible dictations. Don't know if it helps, but I like to believe it does! On the flip side, there are other MTs who are just a disgrace to our profession - they're not learning or new (we can tell). They are simply lazy and sloppy, making the most horrendous careless STUPID mistakes one can even imagine. Sometimes my mouth just hits my desk in horror. And I just shake my head and wade in and fix the entire report myself - that's what I'm there for, right? And for those who take offense that some mistakes are stupid - well, there are some that are stupid! No questions are stupid, but mistakes sure can be! I wish all of you could see firsthand what is out there as far as the quality of MTs. I know you would be amazed at the disparity between MTs. And we ALL makes mistakes, yes, but its how you handle them that counts. I try to be so kind and respectful to all with my corrections, even the lazy sloppy ones. So many MTs are so sweet and write back and thank me for the help, which is totally not expected, while the lazy ones write back screaming at the injustices of their errors! Or they call the president of the company screaming in indignation! Its a shame - I could give dozens of examples of absolutely incredible lazy not-thinking mistakes, but I would never want to embarass someone who I probably QA'd and who might read my post. I never want to hurt a soul, but really wish some MTs would just think while they were transcribing. Some MTs do try so hard - and with all the odds stacked against them by the dictators from outer space! Just my rambling thoughts at the start of a long night shift in QA-land!
